  • Difference Between Production Industry & Process Industry

    Hi Freinds,
Hi have a query. What is the major difference between Production Industry & Process Industry?
I will give you a following example. Please carefully read it.
Take a example of TATA Motors. We all know it produces automobiles. So we will consider it as a Production Industry. But at the same time it uses the Paint to paint the vehicles is produced by it only. So can we call it as a Process Industry? If yes please explain it.
I will award deserving points accordingly for every reply.
    Thanks & Regards
    Saeed Arif

production:- conversion / processing the raw materials to finished products.
    differen type of industry:
job type of industry:- this is of mainly MAKE TO ORDER TYPE , suiting the particular customer requirments , after getting the order only you start doing the production
eg:- Turbine mfg by BHEL, Aircrafts and ship buildings etc.
so here your planning and costs change one order.
Repetative mfg or Batch tpe production: here the products wll be made in batches as lots eg 2000no or 5000nos qty as batches ,
here the planning and costing etc will differ from one batches to another.
eg: Automobile , apperal industry. this can be produced by strategies MAKE TO STOCK or by MAKE TO ORDER,
PROCESS INDUSTRY OR CONTINOUS TYPE OF PRODUCTIONS:
in this type of industry the Process remains same (constant) and procucts may with slight variation in composition,  in this type of industy almost every thing is mechanised . this type of indstry will have LINE LAY OUT/PRODUCT LAYOUT
ie at one entry all the materials go in one line and processed and at the end of the line you will be getting finished products. the complete line will be controlled by automated sensors by using sopostigated sensors. the only problem here is that in LINE  if one macine /station is have break down the complete production will comes to halt as one machine/station output is going to be input for oher staion/machine.
eg: cement, paints , food and beverages etc.
you can seggregate indstry type by materials or by the type of layout(ie mfg line)
so now coming to your doubt : TATA - AUTOMOBILES following hybrid type of laty out  ie mfg of automobiles is functional  layout , where there is flexibilty of planning , from paint sections on wards it follows line layout  ..
so you have to call it is as product industry , intern which have line layout for cetain operations , which pertains  to  process industry...

  • Difference between production version and routing

    hello pp experts,
why do we create production version, and what's the difference between production version and routing?

    Dear sarfaraz lodhi ,
Production version is a combination of BOM & Routing in the case of Discrete Manufacturing and it's a
combination of BOM & Rotuing/Rate Routing in the case of Repetitive Manufacturing.
Created either through MM02 by selecting MRP4 view or else through C223
A production version determines the various production techniques that can be used to produce a material.
    It defines the following information:
    ·        Alternative BOM for a BOM explosion
    ·        Task list type, task list group, and group counter for assignment to task lists
    ·        Lot-size restrictions and period of validity
A material can have one or more production versions.
Routing contains the set of operation that's required for producing a product either a HALB - Semi-
Finished product or else a FERT - Finished Product.
The T code for creating Routing is CA01.

  • Difference between product costing and cost collector

    Hello experts:
Can anybody tell me wich is the difference between the product costing calculation and the preliminary cost estimate for cost collector?
    Thanks
    Laura

    Hi,
Product cost collector is a cost object which collects actual cost which are incurred in the production of materials periodically.  This is normally used in product product cost by period.  Whereas, product cost calculation is wider scope.

  • Difference between Production Supply Area and a Storage Location

    Hello Experts,
Basic question but wanted to get more clarity on the concept as i never worked on the PSA
Can someone tell me the exact difference between PSA and a SL. I understand PSA is a Kanban, WM and SL is an IM concept. Can a work center have a storage location assigned or just a PSA? Can a GI be done from PSA or just from a storage location.

    Hello
The production supply area is a master data used by WM, while the storage location is used by MM-IM.
    Check this link for details:
Production Supply Area - Warehouse Management System (WMS) - SAP Library
The goods issue is done with reference to the storage location
It is possible to assigne a storage location to a production supply area and assign the production supply area to the work center.

  • Difference between Productive edition and Developer edition

    Hi,
what is the difference between SAP NW CE 7.1 installed in Developer edition and Productive Edition.
1)If we are planning for a three system landscape like SAP ERP instances with dev-qas and prd which edition
should we be going ahead with ?
    2) In productive edition, can't we install sap nw developer studio like we can do in developer edition.
    3) In a 3 tier landscape can we have a mix of editions ie DEV with developer edition and PRD in production edition..
    Please reply.
    Regards,
    Sandeep

    Hi,
The difference is mainly that the productive edition is compliant to the usual SAP system layout(sapmnt/saploc shares, users, groups, etc.) while in the development edition these are skipped. From the functional perspective they should be identical.
In addition I AFAIK 32 bit windows is generally not supported for production (because of memory management issues) while 64-bit is not supported for development (IDE).
    On your questions:
    1) I guess development for developers, production for the rest.
    2) I don't think the dev studio is supported on 64-bit.
    3) No problem here. However if you're about to need system copy (for example to clone productive system data into dev/qa environment) it will not work for development edition. Have this in mind when you plan your landscape.
    Hope this helps !
    Best regards, dido

If the default number of threads is 15, the server is set to Development mode.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Got it - thanks.
For such a critical function one would think they would make that a tad more clear.  You can also click on the Lenovo Partition. It will prompt you to create Recovery Media there as well. The contents of which match neither the Product Recovery Media nor the Recovery Media.

  • Difference between three types of product costs

    Hi,
    SAP Masters
can any bode explain the what is the difference between product cost by period, product cost by sale order and the third one is there and also please esplain the master recipe

    Dear Kavya,
    __1.Product Cost by Period:__
    Product cost Collector:
1.Product Cost collector is one of the master data in REM scenario.
2.Product Cost collector is used as a cost object in REM scenario, which means all the cost will be booked under this product
cost collector for that material which is nothing but period based costing.
3.Whatever the confirmations that are done in MFBF or MF41 or MF42N,the cost will get debited or credited accordingly for that
material and the impact will be seen in the product cost collector.
4.This product cost collector will be having an order number which will be used for order settlement and variance calculation.
5.For creating a product cost collector you will require a production version.
6.so whenever you do an assembly or activity or component backflush, the cost will be booked under this product cost collector.
    2.Master Recipe:
This comes under PP-PI,where Process order's are used for production.
The master recipe is used for the manufacture of products or for rendering services.
    Structure
A master recipe consists of a header and several operations, each of which is carried out at a primary resource. An operation
    is subdivided into phases.
A master recipe contains process control data that can be stored in the following way:
    ·        in the form of characteristic-based process instructions, which you define in the operation overview for the phases.
    ·        in the form of XSteps, that you maintain in the XStep editor ( XSteps).

  • Difference between process order and Production order

    Hi Experts,
Can any buddy tell me the difference between process order and production order. Why process order is used for process industries. Why do we use recipe for it and routing for production order ?
    Regards,
    Amit

    Hi Amit
There is a difference between production order and process order.
Supposing a 10,000 lit tank is being manufactured in discrete manufacturing. You have to follow the necessary routing steps and can make by physically seeing its development stage by stage. For this type production you can have a production order.
In case of process of order if some chemical in a reactor is loaded with intial temp of 30 C and need to be heated to 80 C then there is phase change. Hence we use Heating as an operation and the change of temp is phase. For such type of process we process order.
Hope this is useful. Pl reward.

  • Diff between production support and support

    dear sap gurus,
can any one explain about the difference between production support and support
    thanks in advance
    dreddy

    Hi,
Though there are no strict line of difference, it can be put in different perspective.
Production Support: Involving the day to day problem solving like Job monitoring,Job fails,Error entry by end users & their impact, issues involving while data transfer between interfaces ...etc
Support : Could be like a developmental one involving new change requests with configuration change/Code Change & requires testing & user acceptance & then moving to production.

  • What is difference between SAP R3 And SAP IS Mills Product

    HI Friends
What is difference between SAP R3 And SAP IS Mills Product
What are the futures are availables in IS MIlls
    Regards

    Hi,
SAP R/3 is the central enterprise version. It is not specifically designed for any inducstry sectors and it can cater many of the industry types.
Is is developed for specific industries an for SMB's (small and medium business). It will have components specifically for the industry.
The SAP Mill Products component adds sector-specific functionality to an ERP system to satisfy the complex requirements of mill industries (e.g. metal, wood, paper, textiles, construction materials, and cable sectors).
These industry segments differ from others primarily in that the materials used have a large number of characteristics and variants. The materials in the segments listed above are also predominantly area-based (e.g. paper, textiles, plastic film) or length-based (e.g. cables, piping). Account must be taken of these material characteristics throughout the entire supply chain.
To cater for the particularities of these industry segments, SAP Mill Products features processes and functions that cover the entire supply-chain cycle – from product design and configuration, through planning, order processing, capacity planning and production, to final delivery. Additional functions are available in costing and inventory management. SAP Mill Products are also integrated into Quality Management, Financial Accounting, and Controlling.

  • What's the difference between Application ID and Product ID for WP App?

Anyone know what's the difference between the Application ID on Marketplace and the
Product ID in WMAppManifest.xml?  Can I get the Application ID before I sumbit the app to Marketplace? Thank you.

Hello the ApplicationID is the ProductID on the WMAppManifest.xml, when you create a new project, a generic
ProductID is assigned to your app, and once you send your app to the store, the generic
ProductID is replaced with a new one (which will be assigned permanently to your app
unless you do a new App Submission, which means each update will have that same ID). AFAIK once your app is certified you'll get the ApplicationID, you can send it and publish it manually, so you could
have the AppID before people start downloading the app.
(if you need the AppID for testing IAP, you may want to try sending your App as a Beta version)
    I hope it helps
    Yassine,
Now I think I understand them, thank you!

I do video productions for a small local TV station. I use Final Cut Express to edit. I need a new video camera but am at a loss as to what to buy. I know I will get a digital camera but do not know the difference between just digital and digital HD. Also, I can not afford an expensive camera and need some advice on which of the available cameras would be best and also work well with a Mac. One last issue, I currently use a Panasonic #CCD camera that takes a tape. When I load video to Final Cut the audio and video are out of sinc. Go figure. Can anyone help with these questions. Karen

    Hello Karen,
If you are using Final Cut Express, then look for camcorders that are AVCHD camcorders.  Look especially for the AVCHD logo and specific mention of AVCHD in the specs.  Most of the major manufacturers produce good quality camdcorders - Canon, Sony, etc.
Also, be aware that there are a lot of "not quite AVCHD" camcorders on the market (sometimes they say they record video as MPEG4-H.264/AVC) - buyer beware!
Most everything you are going to find on the market today is HD, which stands for "high-def".
Regarding your question about the Panasonic camcorder, it's best if you post that as a separate question, and please identify the specific model camcorder and the Easy Setup you are using in FCE.
