Differences between Netweaver 2004 and Netweaver 2004s?

Hi All,
Can anyone please explain me in details the major differences between Netweaver 2004 and Netweaver 2004s.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Henry

Hi Henry,
This content i got from experts:
The code developed on 2004 will work on 2004s.
Some minor changes have been made refer to the documentation for specific details
SAP NW2004s is the mySAP Business Suite edition of SAP NW 2004.it is a minor release that delivers on specific needs of the mySAP and xapps solutions delivered by SAP in 2005. the "s" stands for "mySAP Business Suite Edition".
The next major release of NW will deliver on Business Process Platform(BPP) it will be released in 2006.
Few of the New capabilities in NW2004s
1)Developing a web based user interface with Web Dynpro fro ABAP.
2)Enhancements to enabling B2B processes
3)Enhancements to business task management
4)Enhancements to business planning
5)Enhancements to enterprise data warehousing
6)mass setup of mobile devices
7)implementing a global portal

NW04 is a 'Java version' which means you can develop applications using Java and export them to portal.
NW04s is a 'ABAP version'.Here you can develop ABAP reports and transactions and export them to portal. There you can create iViews using them.
Netweaver 04s, includes both the ABAP and Java stacks. The Sneak preview for NW04s is only for the ABAP stack, and the Sneak Preview NW04 SP15 is only the java stack. If you are using the sneak preview for ABAP, you can develop WDA applications and BSP applications, they run directly in the engine, not in a portal. But they can be embeded in an iView in some portal. You don't have to have a portal to run your application. If you are using the java side, you can develop WDJ applications and JSP applications. Same applies here, they run on the java engine, not in a portal, but can be embeded into an iView which runs on the portal. But you don't need a portal for your application to run. The portal is just a frontend UI, the apps themselves run on the underlying engine, whether its ABAP or JAVA.

  • Difference between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1

I am little confused and curious to know the recent changes happening in SAP.
Can you please tell me the differences between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1
NetWeaver 2004 is named because SAP has released it in 2004
and then we have XI 3.0, XI.7.0(that is PI right) , EP6.0 etc as individual components have different versions released in NewtWeaver suite.
But what is this NetWeaver 7.0.
We have EE5 or ECC6 and WebAs 6.4 or GUI 6.4 or recently GUI 7.o or WebAs 7.0.
How does all these differe, is individual component of NetWeaver upgraded with higher versions or total NetWever is upgraded with a higher version.
Can any one please tell me the exact difference between versions.
If some one has ECC6 installed in their environment does it mean that they have Netwaver components like XI, EP, MDM.. etc are installed or its only R/3, BI etc...
    How it works exactly?
    Thanks,
    Kiran.

Pretty much everything is explained in here:

  • What is the difference between NetWeaver 7.3 and NetWeaver 7.03?

    Hi Experts,
Can anydoby explain me the difference between NetWeaver 7.3 and NetWeaver 7.03? or say difference between NetWeaver 7.2 and NetWeaver 7.02?
I have been confused by these 2 terms. As far as I know, the features of AS ABAP in NetWeaver 7.3 and NetWeaver 7.03 are almost same. The same applies to NetWeaver 7.2 and NetWeaver 7.02.
BTW, as I know the BS2011 are based on NetWeaver 7.03, PI 7.3 are based on NetWeaver 7.3.
    Thanks and Best Regards
    Fei
Moderator message: not directly related to ABAP development, please search for available information, e.g. in the Netweaver forums.

Yes, all 4.x dot releases (updates) are free of charge to all version 4 owners.
You only pay again for the next major version upgrade = version 5  unless you're a Cloud member where all upgrades and updates are included in the membership fee.

  • Difference between Netweaver 7 SR2 and Netweaver 7 SR3

    Guys,
Can anyone tell me the difference between Netweaver 7 SR2 and Netweaver 7 SR3, I have a question out with SAP regarding the supportability of SCM 5.1 on Windows 2008.
The response I got back was that SCM 5.1 is based on Netweaver 7 SR2, but it was my understanding that the SR designation was for the level of support packs and kernel upon vanilla installation. Have I missed something fundamental, because my SCM installation is patched to the highest level and therefore surpasses the patch and kernel levels provided by Netweaver 7 SR3.
    TIA
    Chris

    Hello Chris,
The main difference between these releases is the initial SP level that comes with each media kit:
    NetWeaver 7.0 SR3:  14
    NetWeaver 7.0 SR2:  9
    NetWeaver 7.0 SR1:  6
For more details, you can check note:
#789220  Support Package level for NetWeaver Installations/Upgrades
Other differences relate to the (new) installer with some bugs corrections and a few additional features and restrictions:
    - the Unicode restriction in SR3:  "Only Unicode support for new installations" - "Every newly installed SAP system is a Unicode system. However, non-Unicode is still supported for copied and upgraded systems." So a new install based on SR3 must be UNICODE. On the other way, if you upgrade your, say, SR1 system to SR3, you can still run it NON-UNICODE.
    - SR3 supports only 64bit new installs on the Central Instance. However, if you need to add dialog instances (application servers), they can be 32bit ones (albeit 64bit is always recommended). When upgrading your system from SR1 to SR3 (for example), you can skip this restriction. That is, you can keep your CI in 32bit, although this is highly not recommended.
A common workaround for these restrictions (if you want to keep your system NON-UNICODE and/or if you want to keep it 32bit) is to:
    1) Install a SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR2 (SAP ERP 2005 SR2, SAP CRM 5.0 SR2, SAP SCM 5.0 SR2, SAP SRM 5.0 SR2) system.
    2) Patch this system to SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 (SAP ERP 6.0, SAP CRM 5.0 SR3, SAP SCM 5.0 SR3, SAP SRM 5.0 SR3).
There are more features / restrictions on the installation guides for SR3 in section: "1.1 New Features"
Also, there is many more minor differences like, for example, that you can only install a SAP system in a Windows 2008  from NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 and up - see note #1054740.
    I hope this information helps.

  • Difference between 4.6 and 4.7 vesion in MM point of view

    Hai,
can any body tell me the difference between 4.6 and 4.7 version. Please treat it as Urgent

SAP BW 7.0 is called SAP BI and is one of the components of SAP NetWeaver 2004s. There are many differences between them in areas like extraction, EDW, reporting, analysis administration and so forth. For a detailed description, please refer to the documentation given on help.sap.com.
    1. No Update rules or Transfer rules (Not mandatory in data flow)
2.Instead of update rules and Transfer rules new concept introduced called transformations.
    3. New ODS introduced in additional to the Standard and transactional.
    4. ODS is renamed as DataStore to meet with the global data warehousing standards.
And lot more changes in the functionalities of BEX query designer and WAD etc.
    5. In Infosets now you can include Infocubes as well.
    6. The Re-Modeling transaction helps you adding new key figures and characteristics and handles historical data as well without much hassle. This facility is available only for info cube.
    7. The BI accelerator (for now only for infocubes) helps in reducing query run time by almost a factor of 10 - 100. This BI accl is a separate box and would cost more. Vendors for these would be HP or IBM.
    8. The monitoring has been improved with a new portal based cockpit. Which means you would need to have an EP guy in your project for implementing the portal !
    9. Search functionality has improved!! You can search any object. Not like 3.5
    10. Transformations are in and routines are passe! Yes, you can always revert to the old transactions too.

  • Difference between BW3.5 and BI 7.0 version

difference between BW3.5 and BI 7.0 version

    Hi ,
Differences between BW 3.5 and BI 7.0
Major Differences between Sap Bw 3.5 & sapBI 7.0 version:
    1. In Infosets now you can include Infocubes as well.
    2. The Remodeling transaction helps you add new key figure and characteristics and handles historical data as well without much hassle. This is only for info cube.
    3. The BI accelerator (for now only for infocubes) helps in reducing query run time by almost a factor of 10 - 100. This BI accl is a separate box and would cost more. Vendors for these would be HP or IBM.
    4. The monitoring has been imprvoed with a new portal based cockpit. Which means you would need to have an EP guy in ur project for implementing the portal !
    5. Search functionality hass improved!! You can search any object. Not like 3.5
    6. Transformations are in and routines are passe! Yess, you can always revert to the old transactions too.
    7. The Data Warehousing Workbench replaces the Administrator Workbench.
    8. Functional enhancements have been made for the DataStore object:
    New type of DataStore object
Enhanced settings for performance optimization of DataStore objects.
    9. The transformation replaces the transfer and update rules.
    10. New authorization objects have been added
    11. Remodeling of InfoProviders supports you in Information
    Lifecycle Management.
    12 The Data Source:
There is a new object concept for the Data Source.
Options for direct access to data have been enhanced.
From BI, remote activation of Data Sources is possible in SAP source systems.
13.There are functional changes to the Persistent Staging Area (PSA).
    14.BI supports real-time data acquisition.
15 SAP BW is now known formally as BI (part of NetWeaver 2004s). It implements the Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW). The new features/ Major differences include:
    a) Renamed ODS as DataStore.
    b) Inclusion of Write-optmized DataStore which does not have any change log and the requests do need any activation
    c) Unification of Transfer and Update rules
    d) Introduction of "end routine" and "Expert Routine"
    e) Push of XML data into BI system (into PSA) without Service API or Delta Queue
    f) Intoduction of BI accelerator that significantly improves the performance.
    g) Load through PSA has become a must. I am not too sure about this. It looks like we would not have the option to bypass the PSA Yes,
    16. Load through PSA has become a mandatory. You can't skip this, and also there is no IDoc transfer method in BI 7.0. DTP (Data Transfer Process) replaced the Transfer and Update rules. Also in the Transformation now we can do "Start Routine, Expert Routine and End Routine". during data load.
New features in BI 7 compared to earlier versions:
    i. New data flow capabilities such as Data Transfer Process (DTP), Real time data Acquisition (RDA).
ii. Enhanced and Graphical transformation capabilities such as Drag and Relate options.
iii. One level of Transformation. This replaces the Transfer Rules and Update Rules
iv. Performance optimization includes new BI Accelerator feature.
    v. User management (includes new concept for analysis authorizations) for more flexible BI end user authorizations.

  • Difference between Smart Forms and Adobe Form

    Hi all,
What are disadvantages of Smart form in SAP ,
What is difference between Smart Forms and Adobe interactive Form.
I heard from someone that in future Adobe interactive Form will repalce smart forms. Is it true or not
    Best Regards
    Srikanth

    Hi,
Companies depend on formal documents that reflect their corporate identities and contain critical business information from live systems. SAP and Adobe partnered for automating and streamlining forms-based communication to support customers who create reusable forms for their business processes.
SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe will be used more and more as a way of simplifying and automating manual processes.
There are various advantages of Adobe forms.
SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe provides all the features and functions you need to create form-based output, such as order confirmations, invoices, or pay slips. You can either print such documents or send them by email or FAX.
    <b>Online Interactive Forms</b>
A user logs on to the company intranet to fill in a form required by the HR department (for example, a Non-Disclosure Agreement to be signed by a new employee). The form is displayed in the browser.
As the user is logged on in the background to the company's HR system, his master data is displayed in the form. The user enters the required information in the fillable fields of the interactive form, and sends the data back to the system by pushing a button. The system extracts the data from the form and saves it in the database.
    <b>Offline Interactive Forms</b>
The purchasing department of a company creates a bid in its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and selects the potential vendors. Based upon this data, the system automatically creates interactive bidding forms with specific vendor information, such as the address or contact person.
The forms are transmitted to the vendors by email. The vendors can fill out the forms offline (without being connected to the system that created the forms) and transmit them back to the company. The company then processes the forms automatically, and the data provided by the vendors is written to the ERP system. The purchasing department uses the data to evaluate the quotation and then issues an order.
<b>With the integration of Adobe PDF technology into its solutions, SAP will be able to further extend its offerings of end-to-end business solutions by:</b>
Providing for the first time the capabilities of Adobe's interactive PDF-based forms.
Integrating PDF documents into business processes that are driven by SAP applications.
Automating the process of moving XML data from SAP applications into interactive forms and vice versa.
Reducing time to design, manage, and maintain extended forms-based processes through easy-to-use forms design and deployment tools.
Offering its customers enhanced printing capabilities, in particular for interactive Web applications.
The focus of new forms technology from SAP is interactive PDF-based forms that can be created in SAP systems as a result of the <b>integration of Adobe technology with Web Dynpro and the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.</b> This integration means that adobe is the future technology.

  • Difference between SAP CRM and mySAP CRM

    Hi ,
can anybody tell me the Difference between SAP CRM and mySAP CRM.
    Regards,
    Shaker.

Personally I have never called it mySAP CRM even though I have worked with SAP CRM since version 2.0C.
IMHO:  Calling it SAP CRM + numerical version number is lot easier to understand
If you look at a CRM system the installed component could be one of the following:
    BBPCRM 20C SAP CRM 2.0C
    BBPCRM 300 SAP CRM 3.0
    BBPCRM 310 SAP CRM 3.1
    BBPCRM 400 SAP CRM 4.0 / mySAP CRM 2004
    BBPCRM 500 SAP CRM 5.0 / mySAP CRM 2005
    BBPCRM 510 SAP CRM 2006s(1)
    BBPCRM 520 SAP CRM 2006s(2)
    BBPCRM 600 SAP CRM 2007 / SAP CRM 6.0
    BBPCRM 700 SAP CRM 7.0
I'm not sure about some of the other versions.. but I believe that covers most.
    Take care,
    Stephen

  • What's the difference between XI basis and regular basis?

I am an SAP basis admin for years.
Now my corp starts to use XI.
What is the difference between XI basis and regular basis if there is any?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
No difference... Basis is Basis (Technical consultant)... According to me its just terminology changed. i.e. SAP Administrator instead of SAP basis.
For XI you may need to additionally control the Java stack administartion along with ABAP stack.
Please go thourgh the below link to know about SAP NetWeaver Administrator, then you may compare with regular Basis activities

  • Difference between WEP, WPA, and WPA2 and better suggestion to use for shared family users

What is the difference between WEP, WPA, and WPA2? My router is set up on my family PC and connected to a modem so I access Wi-fi through my laptop and my sister has a laptop too and uses our family network to get internet. I just set up a WPA today, so will we all be able to get internet (along with my family using the pc, and my sis on her laptop, even at the same time) protected? (like nobody else using our network)

Wired Equivalent Privacy, commonly called WEP is 802.11's first hardware form of security where both the WAP and the user are configured with an encryption key of either 64 bits or 128 bits in HEX. So when the user attempts to authenticate, the AP issues a random challenge. The user then returns the challenge, encrypted with the key. The AP decrypts this challenge and if it matches the original the client is authenticated. The problem with WEP is that the key is static, which means with a little time and the right tool a hacker could use reverse-engineering to derive the encryption key. It is important to note that this process does affect the transmission speed.
WPA builds upon WEP, making it more secure by adding extra security algorithms and mechanisms to fight intrusion.
WiFi Protected Access (WPA) is the new security standard adopted by the WiFi Alliance consortium. WiFi compliance ensures interoperability between different manufacturer’s equipment.WPA delivers a level of security way beyond anything that WEP can offer, bridges the gap between WEP and 802.11i networks, and has the advantage that the firmware in older equipment may be upgradeable.
WPA2 is based upon the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) 802.11i amendment to the 802.11 standard, which was ratified on July 29, 2004. The primary difference between WPA and WPA2 is that WPA2 uses a more advanced encryption technique called AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), allowing for compliance with FIPS140-2 government security requirements.
