Differences between songs bought on iTunes, vs. song bought on other sites?

Can someone please explain to me exactly what are the differences in file types between buying songs on iTunes store vs. other sites. I have been buying songs from various Russian sites, and I wonder will iTunes try to block me from playing those files, because they weren't bought on iTunes? Do the newer updates of iTunes software try to block Russian and other online retailers of mp3 music files from selling to music fans who use iTunes and iPod? Obviously, apple would like a monopoly, but are they actively trying to keep others online retailers from selling songs to iTunes users?

iTunes stores are in protected AAC format, ,m4p, only, that is ALL the store sells. Apple, to the best of my knowledge, does not stop you from purchasing from any other download site. What does stop you is most major download sites also have some type of protection on their files which is not compatible with an iPod. One of the download sites that does sell files that are compatible with an iPod is emusic.com, but since most of their catalog is independent, most people are not interested.
When you say Russian download site. I assume you are talking about allo? If so, you might want to exercise caution using that site as the RIAA has been pursing them both in this country & through the Russian legal system for copyright infringement for quite awhile. There have been several times that the legality of the site has been in question.

  • HT1766 what's the difference between the icloud and itunes when installing back up

what's the difference between the Icloud and Itunes when installing back up???

Backing up using iTunes stores your backup locally on your computer. Using iCloud stores your backup on Apple's servers. If you never backup your computer(bad idea), iCloud would be a better choice. Read more here:

  • Difference between app card and itunes card

    Hello
I've looked at Apple Support but can't find an answer. If it matters, I'm in Canada.
What is the difference between an iTunes Gift Card and an App Store Gift Card?
    Thanks for the help

As far as I've ever seen, the only difference is the picture and printing on the card itself.  ITunes, App, or iBooks cards all work in any of the stores.

iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, and Mac App Store account
When you use Apple services, such as the Apple Online Store or registering your product online, you create an Apple ID. You can use the same Apple ID for iTunes, the Mac App Store, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and more.
It is recommended to use only one Apple ID.
If you have registered your product or used any Apple services, you should follow this article to use an existing Apple ID with the iTunes Store or Mac App Store.

  • Volume differences between songs

Okay. My mp3 files in iTUNES play fine. I have the Sound Check checked and they play at the same volume. The problem I have is when I load the songs to my iPOD, the volumes are not the same. Some songs are softer than others. And just using the volume control won't help. I'm using a dock and the line out jack and connecting it to a PA system.
I have tried unchecking Sound Check, indivually adjusting the volumes of each tune in iTUNES preferences. And before I drag the updated files to the iPOD, I go to its library and delete the files which are there. So I'm starting clean each time.
    Still can't make it work.
    What am I missing?

Did you remember to turn sound check on in the iPod (it is in the iPods settings
screen). iPod uses the sound check info from iTunes, but only if you tell the iPod to use it by turning that function on. Default is OFF.

    Patrick--Hey, we're both from Massachusetts.
Thank you--I think it's working. This is a good thing. I use the iPod to supply background tracks so I can play guitar in clubs. I hadn't had the problem before so I don't know why it came up this time.
But it does seem to be fixed. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

  • Difference between the playlist on iTunes and the playlist on my iPhone?

    Hi guys!
I have this issue and I don't know how to explain it nor resolve it.
I've created a playlist on iTunes which contains all my complete albums (in contrast with all the other songs not included in a complete album).
To do that, I've created a smart playlist which only contains music with an Album artist completed.
It works just fine with iTunes: the only music that I have in this playlist are the complete albums.
But, when I sync this playlist with my iPhone 4 or iPad, the playlist on these devices contains the albums plus lots of other music which aren't in the playsit on iTunes.
How the **** is that possible? It works absolutely fine with iTunes but is a total mess with my iDevices!
Can somebody please tell me how to resolve this issue?
    Thanks a mill in advance!

This was a problem for me as well, but it somehow magically fixed itself when i upgraded to iOS 6. That's what id recommend if you're able to do that.

  • Number of Podcasts Episode differences between iPod Touch in iTunes and physically from my iPod Touch.

Physically on my iPod it says I have 19 episodes of a podcasts but when i look on my device in iTunes, it only shows that i have 11 episodes. Here are screen shots of my iPod Touch and iTunes

Have you downloaded the additonal (or any) episodes directly onto your Touch using Wi-Fi? If so, have you Synced your iPod with your iTunes since then and what options have you set for Podcasts? (When the iPod is connected to your iTunes, look on the Device/Podcasts pane to see the settings.)

  • How can I increase the transition time between songs on my IPOD?  I do not want a fade.

How can I increase transition time between songs on my IPOD?  I do not want a fade.

If Crossfade is OFF, the fadeout is actually part of the recording, so you won't be able to change how it fades.
If you want to make the silence (gap) between songs longer, there is only one setting I know of that relates to the gap between songs, and it is in iTunes.
Do a Get Info on a song in iTunes (File -> Get Info OR Cmd-I from keyboard) and go to the Options tab in the Info window.  There is a setting called Part of gapless album.  If that checkbox is checked, the songs are played with no gap.
I don't know of any other setting in iTunes or the iPod that makes the gap between songs longer.

  • IPod Pauses Between Songs

My iPod pauses slightly between songs when I'm listening to an album - any idea how turn that off?

    Which iPod?
    Which iTunes?
WHat do you mean "it pauses"?
Do you mean it stops or the music has a break in between songs?

  • Is there a difference between itunes and apple tv

Sorry if this  has been asked before. Is there a difference between the content on iTunes and the content on Apple TV?
I was searching for a movie today and found differing results to begin with between the iTunes on my phone and iTunes on my ipad2, this turned out to be the price for a SD version on my iPhone and the HD version found on my iPad2. However I searched for the same movie on Apple TV and couldn't find it, hence the why I am asking if there is a difference between what's available.

Your Apple TV searches iTunes Store for either SD or HD but not both at the same time (you can change the default in settings), so if something isn't available in HD and you search using the HD default, you won't see it.

  • Is there any difference between Itunes store and apps store.  Confusing I think

Is there NY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN APPS STORE ANS ITUNE STORE.  i AM A NEW USER AND i FINF=D THIS VERY CONFUSING

On an iOS device no, iTunes app, App Store app & iBooks app, all are separate apps for what is one app, the iTunes app, on the Mac or PC. They all use the same Apple ID and iTunes account to buy content.

  • Differences between 3G and 4G?

I am looking to upgrade from my 512MB Shuffle to a regular full-size iPod. I am currently browsing eBay auctions and it looks like the 15MB (3G) or 20MB (4G) are in my price range. What are the differences between them? I know the 4G has the clickwheel, but it looks like the 3G has a "circle" too - what does it do? Is it buttons for moving through menus but not jumping between songs? What other differences are there between 3G and 4G? Thanks!

    Please have a read

I prefer with a 3G myself, but make sure about the battery issue, as it should reach the time for the battery replacement, 3G have been lauched for almost 3 full years.

  • What is the Difference Between Restoring and Resetting etc on IPhone?

What's the difference between going on to iTunes and hit restore button and By holding the power button and home button at the same time? Also the diff between those and the factory settings?

Resetting is the equivalent of a reboot. Restore reloads the whole operating system. Restoring from a backup lets you restore the phone to the exact settings and data it had at the time of the backup. Restore to factory settings reloads the operating system and wipes out all data.
