Differences in 2621 series routers

Hi,
Can someone please explain the difference of the following 2621 series router?.
1.2621 FE VPN
2.2621 XM
3.2621 WIC-1T
4.2621 w/NM
I am confussed of what each is able to accomplish before buying. I am gradually building a lab that could help me up until CCIE level.
Please help me

Ok sure.
1.2621 FE VPN
This suggests that the router is standard 2621 and not the XM version. The VPN could refer to two things:
a) There is VPN IOS sw pre-loaded
b) There is an HW based VPN AIM module installed. You don't need either for CCIE.
2.2621 XM <-- This device supports extra memory and therefore more will offer more features since it can hold a larger IOS image than non-XM routers. You will be tested on the additional feature that the standard 2621 will not support.
3.2621 WIC-1T
This simply would refer to 2621 standard with a WIC-1T card. We need XM so it's no good to be honest.
4.2621 w/NM
The 2600 series routers have 3module slots in the back as you may know. It has one NM module slot which is a fair bit larger than the other 2 WIC slots. So this description would translate to a standard 2621 router with some sort of NM module. For further information about NM modules please see the following link:
<http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_mod/cis2600/hw_inst/nm_inst/nm-doc/ovrnetm.htm>
I must point out that some of these module options can be very expensive but equally others have very little value.
All the best,
Ajaz

  • Need a tool for flash backup on Cisco 2821 series routers

    Hello Folks,
We have around 1200-1500 cisco 2821 series routers on those we are performing the hardware upgrade so we are taking the backup of all the files available in the flash of all the routers, we just want to know is there any trusted tool available to make this task easy to schedule and take the backups.
Please let me know if you know any tool name.
    Thanks,
    Raja.

Sorry, I don't know any tool that makes a backup of the whole flash...
You could fo it with from ios cli maybe execute it automatically...
    To flash:
    archive tar /create flash:/backup.tar flash:/
copying directly to ftp should also work:
    archive tar /create ftp://test:[email protected]/backup.tar flash:/

  • Which E series routers support the Wireless_Advanced.asp hidden page?

I know the E2500 and the E4200 support the http://192.168.1.1/Wireless_Advanced.asp settings but what other E series routers support this hidden page where you can set Beacon Interval, RTS and Fragmentation thresholds?

I own the E3000 v1 and it has this feature so I presume that the E1000 & E2000 have this feature. You say that E2500 & the E4200 have the feature.  I presume that the E1200 v1 to E4200 v1 have the feature while E1200 v2 to E4200 do not have the feature. See new userguide for E1200 to E4200.

  • HT1595 Cisco's RV Series Routers as guest with apple tv?

Im on a Cisco’s RV Series Routers as guest and it connects with my new apple tv but I cant download content from the net. As a guest you dont need a password to connect however if you open a webbrowser it then asks for a password. As apple tv doesn't have a browser there must be a work around.

It isn't connecting to the network as it requires password via the webpage. As you are aware the Apple TV doesn't support this method since there isn't a browser on the device. There is no workaround.

  • Anyone know the name of the small coax used for antennas on most WRT series routers?

I am looking for more information on the coax cable used on most WRT series routers.  It has a clear jacket, approximately 1/8" thick.  Only way to see is by opening your router, or looking inside the rubber part of antenna.
I would appreciate any experienced assistance!

Big Daddy, One other thing I forgot to mention is, If you open the case on your device, you'll instantly void any warranty that came with it. Also, bear in mind, any modifications that you make to the antenna system on this device could not only make the FCC approval that Linksys was given for the device null and void. Be very careful with anything like an antenna system on these devices, you can actually recieve RF burns if you contact any bare metal of the antenna system when it is transmitting. Just bear in mind that 2.4GHz is more less the same frequency that a microwave oven uses (although at a LOT lower power). As a radio ham, I've had the odd RF burn and I can tell you, they really hurt!.

  • Test Network Setup with 1700 Series Routers

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to Cisco equipment use. Fortunately I have in my possession two spare Cisco 1700 series routers with which I can set up a lab to learn and play.
I'm not sure what cards to get for them--they have none. Can someone offer guidance? My guess is I can get second hand WIC's on e-bay but I'm not certain the models or options I need.
My goals would be to do the following, at a minimum, (I think! I'm open to suggestions on other options or limitations I might face)
    1. Configure a routed network between two subnets connected by a router.
    2. Configure the routers to connect to each other, as one would do for say a T1 connection between two remote offices, each having a subnet connected.
Right now the routers have no cards.
    Best regards,
    Will

    Will
I can see benefit from having 1 serial link/subnet and 2 LAN subnets, especially in the variety of scenarios that you could implement with that combination of equipment. (all subnets on a router in the same network, 2 subnets in a network and the other subnet in another network, all subnets in different networks, dynamic routing protocols with auto sumarization enabled, dynamic routing protocols with auto summarization disabled, OSPF on the routers when connected by serial interface or OSPF on the routers when connected by Ethernet interface (is there a DR elected in both situations?)

  • NTP on the Cisco 2600 series routers

    Hi,
I am trying to setup ntp on my 2611 ansd 2621 Cisco routers and so far on one of the routers I have ointed it to the nTP server that I want i.e. ntp0.cornell.edu. it seems that it working but the show clock smd output show the clock for 1999 and a wrong time and time-zone.
can someone please show me the steps by which I need to configure ntp on these routers?
I couldn't find any papers on the Cisco sute to show how to do this.
    Thx,
    Masood

If the clock is showing 1999 then certainly the router is not learning the correct time via NTP. Either the NTP machine it is talking to has the wrong time (certainly not likely if it is leaning from the cornell.edu NTP server) or the router is not talking to the configured server (seems much more likely here). Either the command show ntp status or the command show ntp association would show whether the router was synced to the NTP server.
But correcting the issue with access to the NTP server will not fix the issue if the router is displaying the wrong time zone (unless the time zone displayed is UTC or GMT). NTP transmits time in UTC/GMT and it is up to the router to specify the timezone. Use the configuration global command clock timezone (and possible clock summer-time) to set the time zone on the router.

  • New Firmware (v2.2.0.7) Released for SA520 SA520W SA540 SA500 Series Routers

Cisco has released new firmware for the SA500 Series routers.  It's version 2.2.0.7 and can be downloaded here:
    http://software.cisco.com/download/navigator.html?mdfid=282414017&i=rm
We have been running on this version on our SA540 for months.  Other than some changes to logging that we don't particularly like, it has been a very stable release for us although 2.1.71 was extremely stable in our environment as well.
    Our environment:
    SA540 (gateway router)
three Linksys E4200 v1 routers (configured in "bridge mode" which turns the devices into WAP's)
Netgear GS724Tv3 switch (with two ports in LACP link aggregation mode which are used by our Synology NAS)
Synology DS1812+ NAS (in link aggregation mode)
Several 5- and 9-port unmanaged switches
Several Windows machines (PC's, servers, laptops) of many flavors
Several MAC laptops of many flavors connected via wired and wireless
Several tablets (iPads, Kindles, Touchpads, Xooms, etc.) of many flavors connected via wireless
Several smartphones (iPhones, etc.) of many flavors connected via wireless
At any one time we have ~75 active devices on our network of which ~25 are wireless.  Max ~100 devices.
We utilize IPS and ProtectLink. We do not take advantage the ProtectLink email protection or license the ProtectLink Endpoint functionality.
BTW, our cable modem is directly connected to our SA540.  Our SA540 is directly connected to our Netgear switch.  Nothing else is connected to our SA540.  Our Netgear switch, and to a small part our numerous unmanaged switches, do all of the heavy lifting.
Our SA540 and Netgear switch handle all of the traffic with ease, but we are a relatively small shop.

  • All possible alarms from Cisco VG 202, 204 and ISR G2 2900 Series Routers

    Hello,
I am working on a project that involves integrating Cisco Voice Gateways and ISR G2 routers to our NetCool NMS. The project team wanted a list of all possible alarms that could be generated by these Voice Gateways and ISR 2900 series routers.
Does anyone know somewhere I can get a list of these alarms?

This issue is now resolved.  Removing the codec entries under DSPFarm and replacing them fixed things. I'd done this in the past so I'm not sure why it worked this time around.  Anyway, here's the final config section that is allowing video sessions to operate (loudest speaker mode) between three or more video phones:
    saccavgw01#sh run | s dsp
    voice-service dsp-reservation 0
    dspfarm
    dsp services dspfarm
dspfarm profile 1 conference video homogeneous
    codec g729ar8
    codec g722-64
    codec g711ulaw
    codec h264 cif frame-rate 30 bitrate 320kbps
    maximum conference-participants 8
    maximum sessions 8

  • Difference between 6500 series WLSM & 6500 series WiSM.

Hi  , I would like to know the difference between 6500 series WLSM & 6500 series WiSM.
& also let me know, how many controllers will be physically inside the 6500 series WiSM.

    Hello Selvaraj,
As per your query i can suggest you the following solution-
WLSM and WiSM are two completely different architectures, and seamless
mobility between them, if at all possible would probably not be worth the
    effort.

  • Difference between mg35 series printers

Hi, Does anyone know the difference between mg35 series printers, like mg3540, mg 3570 etc?

there was a similar thread recently so a part of the question on how order series KF is read is in the reply there
Re: How Data is read from Live Cache when accessing SNP Planning Books
to delete time series KF you can do a couple of things
    1. manually enter zero in the time series KF or Use the distribution function (calculator icon) to put a zero in all the CVCs (which is not a great idea if u have a lot of CVCs)
    2. write a macro to make the KF= 0
    3. Copy a zero value from a KF to the one you want to make zero using RTS copy
am sure there are a few other ways too
for deleting the oorder series KF, in addition to using the RLCDEL that uma mentioned , you also use few variants depending on what kind of orders they are(in some version Planned orders are not deleted by rlcdel)
for eg /SAPAPO/DELETE_PP_ORDER - for PPDS orders
    /SAPAPO/SDORDER_DEL - for SD orders
here are some alternate ways for deleting depending on how they are created
for deleting order type FA for example you can release a zero from DP
for delting orders that were created by BAPIs, rerun the same BAPIs with zero quantity

  • How to tell 2500 series routers apart?

Can anyone tell me how the 2500 routers (2501, 2502 etc etc) are different?
    JG.

Its very easy. Consider 250X where X = even or odd Just remember a few key points.
    a. Most odd number ending routers have ethernet (10baseT) interfaces, while even numbers have token ring interfaces. The wan interfaces available on each series keeps changing as X increases.
    2501 - 1 eth, 2 serial
    2502 - 1 TR, 2 serial
    2503 - 1 eth, 2 serial, 1 bri
    2504 - 1 TR, 2 serial, 1 bri
    b. 2505, 2507, 2516 are special routers with built in ethernet hubs.
    2505 - 2 synchronous serial, 8 hub
    2507 - 2 synchronous serial, 16 hub
    2516 - 2 synchronous serial, 14 hub, 1 BRI
    c. 2509-2512 are access servers, which means they have async interfaces. 2509, 2510 have 8 async ports, while 2511-12 have 16 async ports. 2509 and 2511 have ethernet interfaces, while 2510 and 2512 have token ring interface.
    d. 2513, 2514, 2515 are routers with more than 1 ethernet or token ring interface or a combination of both.
    2513 - 1TR, 1Eth, 2 serial
    2514 - 2 ETH, 2 serial
    2515 - 2 TR , 2 serial
    e. The next few routers are not so commonly used, but good for old Token ring networks.
2517 has 12 port token ring hub with an isdn port and 2 serial ports
2519 has 24 port toekn ring hub with an isdn port and 2 serial ports
    f. 2518 combines the functionality of Ethernet hub with ISDN bri and Synchronous serial ports, all in one router.
    g. 2520, 2521, 2522, 2523 have higher port densities for WAN.
    2520 - 1 Eth, 1 BRI, 2 sync serial, 2 async serial
    2521 - 1 TR, 1 BRI, 2 sync serial, 2 async serial
    2522 - 1 Eth, 1 BRI, 2 sync serial, 8 async serial
    2523 - 1 TR, 1 BRI, 2 sync serial, 8 async serial
    h. 2524 and 2525 are the only modular series of the whole lot. You can add modular cards (older wics, not compatible with any other router series)
    The following cards are supported
    i. 2-wire switched 56-kbps data service unit/channel service unit (DSU/CSU)
    ii. 4-wire 56/64-kbps DSU/CSU
    iii. Fractional T1/T1 DSU/CSU
    iv. Five-in-one synchronous serial
If you need to read more on all these routers and their architectural differences, visit this link.

I think I left out 2506, but I cant find any
    documentation on it.
