  • Difference between and lock and eneque in oracle

    Please give the difference between a lock and eneque in oracle
    Naveen

    Here is what Oracle defines an Enqueue to be in the 9.2 Glossary >>
    enqueue
    Shared memory structures that serialize access to database resources. Enqueues are local to one instance if Real Application Clusters is not enabled. When you enable Real Application Clusters, enqueues can be local or global to a database. (See also: latch, lock, and resource.)
    <<
    There is also a type of enqueue associated with Advanced Queueing. Similar concept but different specialized purpose.
    Generally speaking Locks on the other hand serialize access to row data. Oracle actually records row locks in the data blocks.
    Enqueues, Locks, and Latches are perform the same basic function: serialize access but the methods are implemented differently and applied to different functional areas of the rdbms.

  • Restricting "Other" access permissions after SAP Unix/Oracle installation

    Hi,
    our Unix support team have been reviewing security on our SAP infrastructure and want to know if it would be possible to remove access to world/other users. Looking at the SAP online help documentation. and through various forums I can't find anything that suggests what the minimum access rights could be set to on both the SAP instance and Oracle filesystems/files. Everything has been set as per installation.
    SAP Instance Filesystems : - http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0a/0a2e39ef6211d3a6510000e835363f/frameset.htm

    Does anyone know what the minimum access rights could be changed to,on Unix/Oracle while still enabling the SAP standard installed system to function normally.
    Regards,
    Brian.

    I'm also looking for the same info. One of the doc http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005vp/helpdata/en/5a/23882081dd934dbf9d68ca550448c6/frameset.htm says that it should be ok to remove the non-dba ids from the dba group.

  • Difference in select for update of - in Oracle Database 10g and 11g

    Hi, I found out that Oracle Database 10g and 11g treat the following PL/SQL block differently (I am using scott schema for convenience):
    DECLARE
      v_ename bonus.ename%TYPE;
    BEGIN
      SELECT b.ename
        INTO v_ename
        FROM bonus b
        JOIN emp e ON b.ename = e.ename
        JOIN dept d ON d.deptno = e.deptno
       WHERE b.ename = 'Scott'
         FOR UPDATE OF b.ename;
    END;
    /While in 10g (10.2) this code ends successfully (well NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised but that is expected), in 11g (11.2) it raises exception "column ambiguously defined". And that is definitely not expected. It seems like it does not take into account table alias because I found out that when I change the column in FOR UPDATE OF e.empno (also does not work) to e.mgr (which is unique) it starts working. So is this some error in 11g? Any thoughts?

    It seems that my question was answered here - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2736426/difference-in-select-for-update-of-in-oracle-database-10g-and-11g

    The behaviour seems like it really is a bug and can be avoided using non-ANSI syntax. (It makes me wonder why Oracle maintains two query languages while dumb me thinks that this is just a preprocessor matter and query engine could be the same).

  • ERP 6.0 EHP4 SR1 Upgrade Unix Oracle issue with /STARTUP

    We are in the process of doing an ERP 6.0 EHP4 SR1 Upgrade Unix Oracle Upgrade.  We have ran into a problem running the /STARTUP, we are using the Upgrade Master DVD 51036889 as well as have down loaded it from service market place and jce_policy-1_5_0.zip as well as the one on SAP service market place.  When we execute the command   /STARTUP jce_policy_zip=jce_policy-1_5_0.zip the job starts and runs down to where the controller for port 4241 starts and then hangs.  If we control C out and go to the /usr/sap/SID/upg and run /STARTUP  it runs all the way through setting up both 4241 controller and 4239 controller, we then go to the web browser and launch the Gui => logon as administrator => upgrade roadmap screen pops up it is set on the initialization phase we hit next and nothing happens after that, we don't get the ABAP tab or the progress bar.  We would appreciate any help.

    Hi Jerry,
    The first time you run STARTUP its run from the NW7 EHP1 SR1 DVD. Just wanted to confirm that your running it from this DVD. This extracts and setups your /usr/sap/<SID>/upg directory. It sounds like this directory hasn't been setup correctly which is why your not seeing anything when you login to the GUI.
    Can you confirm that you got your JCE files from SWDC -> SAP Cryptograpic Software ?

    I had to use the JCE file from here to get my upgrade to work. What OS are you on?
    Hope this helps.

  • How to use complex function as condition in Oracle Rule Decision Table?

    How to use complex function as condition in Oracle Rule Decision Table?
    We want to compare an incoming date range with the date defined in the rules. This date comparison is based on the input date in the fact & the date as defined for each rule. Can this be done in a decision table?

    I see a couple of problems here.
    First, what you posted below is not a syntactically valid query. It seems to be part of a larger query, specifically, this looks to be only the GROUP BY clause of a query.

As you discovered, if you attempt to do so, you'll find it doesn't work. If you stop and think about how SQL is processed, it should make sense to you why the SQL is not valid.
    If you want to apply a filter condition such as:
    trunc(max(RD.DATERECEIVED)) BETWEEN TO_DATE('01/08/2011','DD/MM/YYYY') AND TO_DATE('01/08/2011','DD/MM/YYYY')you should do it in a HAVING clause, not a where clause:
    select ....
      from ....
    where ....
    group by ....
    having max(some_date) between this_date and that_date;Hope that helps,

  • How to use Rand()  (ANSI Function)as such in Oracle

    I need to use Rand() function as such in ANSI format in oracle how to use it.
    I don't want to use the available DBMS_RANDOM.RANDOM(), i want to use ANSI Function as such in Oracle
    Please help me

    I don't want to use the available DBMS_RANDOM.RANDOM()Whats wrong with dbms_andom?
    In any case you can simply write a function wrapper to have same functionality as rand():
    SQL> create or replace function rand (max_val int default 32767)
      return int
    as
    begin
      return dbms_random.value (0, max_val);
    end rand;
    Function created.
    SQL> select rand(50) from dual
           RAND(50)
                 44
    1 row selected.

  • Migrating Oracle 9i Unix to Windows 2000

    Dose anyone have any information on migrating an Oracle 9.2.0 database from Unix to Windows 2000. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Since the data files aren't compatible between the operating systems, you'll probably need to do an export and import to move the database. Other than that, it shouldn't be terribly difficult.

  • What is the difference between partner function and partner type

    Hi Gurus,
    What is the difference between partner function and partner type?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi John,
    The partner types allow us to distinguish between different business partners such as customer, vendor, employee etc and the partner functions represent the functionality or role each partner plays within the business transaction.
    For example under the partner type Customer, you will find - Sold to party, Ship to party, Bill to party, Payer.
    The business partners that exist in the market place are represented with a partner type in the R/3 system. Examples of business partners are customer, vendor, employee and contact person.
    The following partner types are defined in the partner processing for the sales & distribution module –
    a.     AP – contact person (06)
    b.     KU – customer (07)
    c.     LI – vendor (08)
    d.     PE – employee/personnel (09)
    Assigning the partner functions in the SAP system determines the functions of particular partner in the sales process. One partner may take on several functions also.

  • All differences between a function and a procedure.

    What are All differences between a function and a procedure.

    What are All differences between a function and a procedure.This is basic procedural programming fundamentals that you should learn at school.
    A function is a procedure that returns a value (of the type defined in the function declaration) using the RETURN statement at the terminal point of the processing code.
    That's the only difference.
    In terms of SQL, procedures cannot be used within SQL and functions can, but only if the function does not contain any OUT or IN OUT parameters and the return type is of a supported SQL type.

  • Running SQL Server Function and Procedures from Oracle

    I am trying to run SQL Server 2005 functions and/or procedures from a SQL statement in Oracle. I have gone throught the hetergeneous services and have connected to the SQL Server database successfully. I can also do a query to a table in SQL Server successfully; but I have not been able to execute a procedure or a function.

    Have you tried Oracle syntax? It seems to me that you have only tried T-SQL syntax, e.g. execute proc.
    Wrap it in a begin..end tag like you would a normal PL/SQL function or proc call. Assumption is that as Oracle makes the remote database (via the dblink) look like an Oracle database, you should also play along and pretend it is one and treat it as such.
    E.g.declare
      r integer;
    begin
      -- execute remote proc
      procFoo@dblink( 'ABC' );
      -- call a remote function
      r := funcFoo@dblink( 123 );
    end;
