Differences in BPS
Differences in BPS
Can some explain?
In BPS cube I have sum of 96500- (minus)
In Bex report I have sum of 5001
In Layout I have sum of 5001
Why the difference?
Thanks
There should be other records also with the same value for various characteristics so that all of them sum up to 5001. Please check this.

Difference between BPS and BI IP
Hi,
Please advise what is the basic diff between the two from the platfrom perspective. I understand that in BI-IP is in BI layer but BPS is an add on. But what does this mean in simple terms? Also why do we call it integrated planning? Is there any direct link to ECC as well?
Thanks a lot in advance.
SSCHi,
BI IP is advanced version we can say. It is related to BI 7.0.
Where as BPS is with BW 3.5. You can also access BPS through BI 7.0.
Check below threads for more info:

Difference between BPS, MAP and Integrated Planning
HI Experts,
We have a plan to implement the BPS (Business Planningand Simulation) and MAP (Merchandise and Assortment Planning) in retail.
In our BI 7.0 can i use Business Planning (Integrated Planning) or i need to go for BPS and MAP individually.
Pls suggest me.
Best Regards,
Rams. You also have BPS in Bi 7. Points to consider:
1. Future development and new functionalities will be deliverred on IP framework, though you can use old BPS in BI7.
2. IP does not some of the features that BPS has, but hoping that SAP will deliver them down the road.

Difference between BIW and BPS
Hi All,
Please give me brief overview of BPS and tell me the difference between BPS and BIW.
Regards,
Vaishali.hi vaishali ,
BPS is Buisness Planning & Simulation
whereas BIW -Buisness Information Warehouse.
The difference between them is diffrence of pupose
The BIW is use to store large amount of Enterprice data according to module collected from various source systems & provide it in summarised form to various analytical applications the BIW stores data in the manner that it can be easily retrieved and displayed to end user in for analysis .
the reports may be generated in excel format or as web page .
the basic idea behind BW is that the data stored in warehouse in in detailed format and if used for reporting directly causes performance issues
Now for BPS It is a planning application . ie it provides environm, ent for creating planning applications like Balance sheet planning budgeting ,Investment planning etc.
the BIW store Master And transaction Data( actual data )
the Planning data is Entered through BPS into what we call as transaction cubes . we can also use actual data do some forecasting on it( apply planning functions on it and store it as plan data this plan data can be used for further reporting purpose by the enterprice.
Hope this clarifies you doubt

BPS with mySAP ERP 2004 vs. BPS 3.5
Hi all,
Whats is the <u>context</u> difference between Solution Consultant Financials - Strategic Enterprise Management - CPM & BPS with mySAP ERP 2004 certification exam and Solution Consultant mySAP ERP Financials Strategic Enterprise Management
CPM & BPS (SEM3.5) certification exam? SAP says that the former exam's BPS section includes :
Comparison of SAP system and SEM-BPS
Data basis for SEM-BPS
Integrated use of SAP system and SEM-BPS
Integrated business planning
Business plans
Planning design and architecture
Locking concept
Layout Builder
Interface between SEM-BPS and BW
Structure and characteristics of planning functions
Variables
Key figure model and account model
Data transfer structures and multi-planning areas
Planning folders
Web Interface Builder
Comparison of planning interfaces
Planning hierarchy in SEM-BPS
Hierarchies and attribute assignment in BW
Characteristic relationships in SEM-BPS
Top-down and bottom-up modeling
Realignment
however the first exam includes:
Focuses on integrating subplans for a business plan, such as planning results, overhead and personnel costs, investments, balance sheets, and liquidity.
Overhead cost planning with primary and secondary costs
Balance sheet planning using financial planning functions
Personnel cost planning
Liquidity planning and cash flow analysis
CPM part of both exams are same, but why there is a difference in BPS part?
I am planning to take Strategic Enterprise Management - CPM & BPS with mySAP ERP 2004 certification exam, I am wondering what you know about these 2 exams? What topics should I focus on?
Thanks,
KaanHello Kaan,
the SEM 3.5 exam is simply based on an older version. You should take the mySAP ERP 2004 exam (or 2005 once this comes out). The BPS functionality has changed only marginally so it's not really a different, but it's nicer to have a recent certification of course

hi,
1.From security front, how bpc nw/m provides additional advantage over sem-bps? Is there any differences(advantage) bpc nw over bpc m version?
2. Is any prerequisite hardware procurement required for usage of BPC web in customer landscape? is BPC web server is different from other MS web server, which is compatible with BI? Any compatibility matrix?
regdsHello,
1.From security front, how bpc nw/m provides additional advantage over sem-bps?
There r some main difference between BPS and BPC security:
- BPS security is based on NetWeaver authorization concept, that is more flexible, but also much complex to maintain. So we can say that SAP BPC security is much more easy to maintain and that is real advantage.
- BPS has an instrument of blocking data slices only, when SAP BPC has an instrument not only to block data but also comments input and document creating/changing/deleting. That is BPC next advantage.
- BPC has it's own mechanism of concurrency locking, that is more flexible than BPS one and which u can maintain by changing administrator parameters in the table UJR_PARAM. While BPS is blocking the hole slice of data set at the planning level, BPC gives an opportunity to block only those records which user is currently sending to the database.
Is there any differences(advantage) bpc nw over bpc m version?
Advantages of SAP BPC Netweaver 7
2. Is any prerequisite hardware procurement required for usage of BPC web in customer landscape? is BPC web server is different from other MS web server, which is compatible with BI? Any compatibility matrix?
SAP NetWeaver Application Server
- Installed as an add-on to SAP NetWeaver BI Enhancement Package 1.
- Only the AS-ABAP usage type is required for SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, ASJAVA usage type is not required.
- Database Systems: any Relational Database Management System supported by SAP NetWeaver.
- Operating systems: Any operating system supported by SAP NetWeaver. .NET Application Server / Web Server
- Operating systems: Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (32-bit x86), Windows Server 2003, Enterprise x64 Edition.
- .NET versions 1.1 and 2.0.
- Microsoft IIS 6.0.
Client
- Operating System: Windows XP.
- Microsoft Office: 2003 and 2007.
More information u can get here:
http://service.sap.com/pam
Note that the IIS .NET web server, by default, runs on a 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating system,
while SAP NetWeaver generally runs on a 64-bit operating system

Difference between planning r/3 and BPS
Hello gurus
Can u please let me know the main difference between planning in R/3 and BW-BPS
komalHi,
SAP R/3 planning
1. CO-PA is used to input sales forecasts and production
quantities directly into CO (reporting out of Report Painter
or ABAP)
2. Sales and operational planning can assist with make or buy
planning (reporting out of ABAP or standard SAP R/3 reports)
3. Production planning determines the capacity and your ability
to meet the sales and operational plan (reporting out of ABAP
or LIS)
4. Cost center planning and/or product costing uses planned
activity rates and/or product costs to derive the P&L (reporting
out of standard SAP R/3 reports or ABAP)
5. Possible other plans in PCA, labor in HR, and procurement in
MM (reporting out of various SAP R/3 reporting tools)
BI-IP planning
1. BI-IP is used to input sales forecasts and production quantities
(reporting out of SAP NetWeaver BI)
2. BI-IP can be used for sales and operational planning for make
or buy planning (reporting out of SAP NetWeaver BI)
3. APOs Demand Planning determines the capacity and your
ability to meet the sales and operational plan (reporting out of
SAP NetWeaver BI)
4. BI-IP performs cost center planning and/or product costing
using planned activity rates and/or product costs to derive the
P&L (reporting out of SAP NetWeaver BI)
5. Possible other plans in BI-IP include profit center, labor, cost
center, and procurement (reporting out of SAP NetWeaver BI)
SAP R/3 pros:
 Has sophisticated allocation functionality
 BPS does not
Consider retraction of BI-IP data to SAP R/3 for allocation
 Offers availability control
 Not available in BI-IP
Allows you to use existing Report Painter/Writer SAP R/3
reports in planning
BI-IP uses SAP NetWeaver BI reports or must retract
data back to SAP R/3 to use existing Report
Painter/Writer reports
BI-IP pros:
Allows you to use master data that does not exist in SAP R/3
For SAP R/3 planning, SAP R/3 master data must be used
Limits your ability to do what ifs with nonexistent
master data or hierarchies
Has one interface for all planning and reporting
SAP R/3 has different interfaces for each SAP R/3 module,
thus increasing confusion and training costs
Easier full integration in BI-IP harder to achieve in SAP R/3
Uses single reporting tool in BI-IP (SAP NetWeaver BI) SAP
R/3 uses different tools per module
All planning functions are available in BI-IP regardless of
functional area
In SAP R/3, planning functions differ by module or dont
exist at all
All planning functions are Web-enabled in BI-IP
Some planning functions arent Web-enabled in SAP R/3

Analysis Authorization with SEM-BPS
Hi,
We have performed technical upgrade from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0. We want to migrate to BI 7.0 functionality phase wise.
We have SEM-BPS and now we want to migrate to Analysis Authorization of BI 7.0.
Once we have igrated to Analysis Authorization, will there be any impact on SEM-BPS? Can we still use SEM-BPS with New Analysis Authorizations? We do not want to move to BI-IP in near future?.
Please advise.
Best Regards,
URDear UR,
Iu2019m going to try helping you,
In difference of reporting functionality, in planning, the data of an InfoCube is not just read; it is also changed or created.
There are two planning tools in BI: BW-BPS (Business Planning and Simulation), and BI Integrated Planning.
There are two main tcode: BPS0 and RSPLAN
There are three authorization objects to manage Integrated Planning:
S_RS_PL_ADMIN - Planning Administrator
S_RS_PL_PLANNER u2013 Planner
S_RS_PL_PLANMOD_D u2013 Planning Modeler (Development System)
The main object in the planning scenario is InfoCube real-time, where can available writing in small package that arrive in parallel. In some cases the security requirements for reporting and planning can be merging. In this case you need authorization object for checking planning, as authorization object above, and you need authorization object for using a query for planning requires as S_RS_COMP.
In addition to authorization for displaying data, the authorizations for changing data you need analysis authorization (the analysis authorization focus in the InfoProvider, no in Aggregation Level).
In your analysis authorization design for reporting stuff, you should use in 0TCAACTVT characteristic 03 value. In the planning stuff, you should use in 0TCAACTVT characteristic 03 and 02 values. As explain following:
Using the characteristics 0TCAACTVT (activity), you can restrict the authorization to different activities. Read (03) is set as the default activity; you must also assign the activity Change (02) for integrated planning.

Function types for Balance Sheet Planning missing in SEM-BPS 6.0
Hi BPS experts,
After upgrading our BI-system from SEM 4.0 to SEM 6.0 (level 10) as part of the upgrade from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0 (level 15), the BPS function types for balance sheet planning are not available in the planning environment (Transaction code BPS0).
According to the SAP Library the balance sheet planning functions in SEM-BPS comprises of 6 standard function types - one of them is "Depreciation":
<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sem60/helpdata/en/0a/242537cedf2056e10000009b38f936/frameset.htm">help.sap.com -> Business Planning and Simulation (BW-BPS)</a>
Menu path: Business Planning Functions -> Functions for Balance Sheet Planning
In our existing SEM 4.0 we are using "Depreciation" and the functions based on this function type are of course short dumping when executed in our upgraded system (SEM 6.0) as the function type does not exist here.
Odd though - we do have the function type "Allocation" available in SEM 6.0, which should be delivered with SEM together with the Balance Sheet Planning function types (It is listed directly under "Business Planning Functions" in the SAP Library) .
I have tried to figure out whether we missed out on activating something during or after the system installation, but our basis consultant has not found anything in the installation guides related to this issue. Also I was wondering whether it could be a simple matter of activating some Business Content but without any luck.
Does anybody know why the Balance Sheet Function Types are not available in SEM-BPS 6.0?
Kind regards,
Lars

Difference between types of plan data
Hi Friends,
BPS
1. Cost Center Planning: Costs and Allocations
2. Cost Center Planning: Activity Type Prices
3. Cost Center Planning: Cost Center/Activity Type Prices
4. Cost Center Planning: Cost Driver
For the above types of data, I like to understand what is the difference them.
For type 1, I understand it is for primary costs.
For type 2 and 3 they are related / same type of data. So what is the difference between them?
For type 3, seems like combo of types 1 and 2.
For type 4, I am not sure what it is about.
Questions I have:
<b>1</b>. Why is it only primary costs. Where is secondary costs?
<b>2</b>. Type 1 costs is identified by cost elements of costs centers. But type 2 is by activity, quantity and rates ( i think). And costs calculated. So, is this type of cost outside the cost calculation of type 1 such that to get wholistic cost picture, need to add types 1 and 2 at least? Thus, are they mutually exclusive.
<b>3</b>. Now, how does the same apply to type 4?
<b>4</b>. What is the purpose of type 3?
Hope you could advise me friends
Regards
MichaelHello Michael,
Different types of CO planning relate to how an organization is using SAP Controlling functionalities. Activity represent typically internal labor/machine provided by one department (cost center) to a production order, project network etc. depending on the type of organization (production activities or project-driven operation etc.). Activity price would set per cost center for time of periods (months), representing standard price for valuation of actitivities.

Difference in balance as per Sundry creditors account in TB and sub-ledger
Hi,
I am front end user in SAP B1. When i generated the trial balance and the Creditors sub-ledger account i found there was a difference as per the TB and the total of the Creditors sub-ledger account. This difference is appearing inspite of ticking the box add journals, can anyone pls tell me why the difference is occuring. Urgent
PoornimaHi Poornima,
The best way of determining what the correct figures are is to query the jdt1 table (journal entry rows).
The business partner can be found in the field shortname and then sum debits and credits to get the true balance of each Business Partner. Please note that the figures in jdt1 should be the true value in case there is a difference.
To work in the right direction it is important to break down the figures and that way identify where the difference is coming from. The break down can be by BP and date period. Also please check if the BPs are using multiple Control accounts if some figures are hidden there.
Please note that the most common reason when these kind of issues are reported is that some of the report criteria has been defined in a way that will lead to differences. That is speaking from my own experience.
Hope it helps.

BPS vs. Integrated Planning
Hey everybody,
could you give me in some short points the most obvious differences between BW BPS and Integrated Planing?
Thanks in advance!
PhilippThe most important thing about IP is common tolls are used for planning and analytical services.Ex, WAD and BEx Analyzer is used for creating web based and excel bsed planning applications as well as for reporting purposes.
For complete details please refer to the BI Features document either in sdn or service market place. Thanks
