Differences on sync music

Hello!
I'm using iTunes for many many year but there is still something I don't understand.
When syncing my iPhone, what is the difference between :
Sync only checked songs and videos
Check the songs directly from the "Music" tab (this: http://support.apple.com/library/content/dam/edam/applecare/images/en_US/mac_app s/itunes/iphone_sync.png)
I know that manually manage the music is for dragging and drop it on the iPhone and I don't need that solution. But the two above, for me correspond to the same!?
Thank you

Sync music on the Music tab allows automatic syncing, regardless of the checkmarks in front of the songs.
Sync only checked songs allow you to uncheck songs and not have them automatically sync’d.
I only uncheck items I will rarely/never put on the iDevice, such as old podcasts and Christmas music.
I create playlists to sync what I want.

  • IPhone 5s won't sync music from iTunes

I have an iPhone 5s that is less than a year old. For the past month now I have not been able to sync music from my computer onto the phone. I can transfer music and playlists and apps etc from my phone to iTunes on my computer but not vice versa. I have managed to sync the music to my iPad 1st Gen with no issues which is funny considering it's a much older device.
I can still download songs on my phone from the iTunes app perfectly fine it's just getting music from my computer to the iPhone which I'm having trouble with.
I decided to update both my itunes and iphone to the latest versions/iOS but neither has made a difference.

I had to delete all my playlists on the phone. Then I synced it with my iTunes/music and it finally placed my new music back on my phone.

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd gen wont sync music it always gets stuck on a different song everytime and the puts the ipod into recovery mode!

    Hey guys
My dads 2nd gen ipod shuffle will not sync music. I try to sync the music by autofill and manually and it freezes for a long time, and then says the device cannot be found. It then puts the ipod shuffle into recovery mode and i then have to restore the ipod and loose all the data.

The shuffle may be losing its data connection to the computer during the time it is syncing.  If you have not already, you should shut down (power off) the computer.  Disconnect all USB devices (except for standard keyboard and mouse if normally used), including hubs.  Do this to Reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port.  Try repeating the action that is causing the error.
If that does not help, select the shuffle in iTunes and go to its Settings screen.  There is a checkbox for Enable disk use.  If that setting is checked, uncheck it.  If it is not checked, check it.  Basically, reverse the current setting.  Apply the change.  See of that makes any difference.

  • New Ipod touch won't sync music from my dell laptop and I haven't done anything with Itunes as I just want to sync for now.  thanks

I am new to Apple and can't sync my music from laptop to Ipod touch even tho my laptop recognizes the Ipod.  I haven't signed up for Itunes yet as I'm doing one thing at a time and don't see where Itunes is connected to syncing music.  Also, if I bought 8 gig, then why do I only have 6 when I haven't added anything yet?
    thanks

    - You need an Apple ID/iTunes account to use the iPod with iTunes.
See the Users Gudie for how to set and use yur iPod, including syncing music.
iPod touch User Guide (For iOS 5.0 Software)
You can also use the iTunes Help n iTunes for more information on syncing.
    - The 8 GB only has abou6 6.3 GB avaailable to the users inse the difference is takenup bu the operating system and of how GB is advertized and used.

I just updated my iTunes to 11.1.3 and now it won't sync music to my iPhone 4... Help please!!
I have switch the setting on my iPhone to manually manage music and back and it still won't sync the new music

    cutwright 93,
I have a 4s, and I've had that problem, too. I've tried every method mentioned on the boards. If Ellips's suggestion didn't work, try this, and please let me know if it worked:
(I did the following while the phone was connected to my pc...if that makes a difference.)
    1. On the phone, go to Music.
    2. Click "More."
    3. Click "Shared."
    4. My phone lists "iPhone" and my iTunes Libary. Try clicking the name of your music library.
    5. Wait until the circle makes its loop.
The synch still failed to complete, but all of my music was on my iPhone, again. Whew.

  • Itunes won't sync music to iphone 5

I've just upgraded to the iphone 5 32gb from 16gb and having a few issues with syncing music.  My  iphone 5 (16gb), I passed on to my mother as I wanted a 32gb, but I'm using the same apple id for both phones. I used restore from icloud to set up the phone initially.  All my apps and books sync, but music will not sync no matter what I do. I've tried resetting the phone, it made no difference. I've tried erasing the phone and setting up from itunes, instead of icloud and it made no difference.  The music appears in itunes as greyed out with a stationary cycle to the left of the music titles.  I'm hoping someone can help me here or my only alternative is to take the phone back to the shop and get a replacement.

OK,  in a final attempt I finally managed to get it working!  I did this by erasing the phone again and setting up as a new phone and then syncing with itunes.

  • Iphone 3gs wont restore or sync music on my computer, driving me crazy!!

hi everyone, just going to post my problem here and see if anyone has any advice or tips for me.
i have an iphone 3GS and am using a pc with windows xp. i have never been able to sync my phone with itunes 9 and above so after updating software on my iphone i had to go back to itunes 8.2 wich was fine. when iphone os4 was released i updated itunes to 9.2 and tried to install the new hardware, didnt work and i needed to restore my iphone. couldnt do this on my pc so took the phone to my parents computer and restored it fine on there. get back home and plugged my iphone, sync'd it up with a backup no problems but when i tried to sync music it gives me an error 'could not sync iphone, the disk could not be read'. it does the backup fine and gets to syncing the first song, gets halfway through that first one and sits there for 20 minutes before bringing up this error.
i have been googling this for days trying to find a solution have tried uninstalling itunes, reinstalling, but nothing seems to fix it. i am able to sync the music from my parents computer onto the iphone but would really like to use my own music collection!! any tips would be VERY appreciated.
    thanks

OK it sounds like the USB ports re OK, the only other thing I would mention with them, for the moment, make sure you are using the ones on the back of the computer.
Without knowing your machine, sometimes the USB ports on the front are linked via card readers or are front ports on the motherboard, etc and are not high power ports, where as the ones on the back are definitely high power ports.
I have seen many times over the years where clients have come to me saying their external hard drives are faulty, and they plugging them into low power USB ports or into USB hubs and they connect fine, but once they start transferring a lot of information, the lock up or fail during the process as the voltage is dragged down.
I don't know if that would make a difference to a nano, I don't have one of them, but I would expect a nano and iphone to need similar power requirements when syncing.
So at the moment, play it safe and just use the ones on the back until we get the issue solved.
We also need to discount any conflicts between what you have installed on your PC and against iTunes. I don't think this is going to be an issue as you are already syncing another device, but at the same time we need to eliminate the possibility.
If you know how to use MSCONFIG thats good but not essential. We want to stop startup items and services that are not Apple, these include Security Software, CD/DVD software and pretty much anything else you have installed on your computer during it's life. Most software manufacture's write code into their software to start up parts of it when starting your computer. Some of it is essential, eg Security, most of it is a waste of time. The reason they do it is so their software will start up quickly when you want to use it, but if you rarely use it, then all it is really doing is slowing down the boot time of the computer.
So Apple have this trouble shooting page here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275 and I need you to go through this and follow the steps so as we can discount this part.
Now be careful, write down what you are turning off, so as later you know what to turn back on and also be aware that you will also be temporarily turn off your security software so exercise some caution and don't open attachments on emails etc while its off.
If you find that the phone now syncs, with these startup items and services turn off, then we know we have a software conflict, and then you start turning things back on one by one, starting with your security software and testing the syncing each time.
Now I have to go, Germany and Argentina are about to start their game, so good luck and get back to me with you results.

  • Why can't I sync music from my mac to iPad?

I'm having trouble syncing music from my MacBook Pro to my iPad. I have some music that is already transferred, but I can't seem to add new music. Any suggestions?

    Hi Zane
Yes, I do that each time, but it makes no difference. I've had an iPhone with music on for ages, and this issue only happened when I update to iTunes 11 earlier on in the year.

  • Differences in sync method?

I want to sync music and photos manually. The apple tech told me to leave all items in the Summary tab unchecked. What is the difference if I leave them all unchecked or just check the "Manually manage music..."?

The iPhone does not support what is called disk mode - to be used as an external drive.
When using manually manage music and video with an iPhone, this requires manually dragging iTunes content from your iTunes library to your iPhone.
I'm not sure if checking or not checking iTunes content makes any difference when manually managing music and video.
It is my understanding checking or not checking iTunes content is for syncing purposes only.
I sync Playlists. I have a primary Playlist I named iPhone. I transfer music from my iTunes library to my iPhone playlist that I want available on my iPhone, and remove music from the Playlist I want removed from my iPhone.
Personal preference but I see no great advantage to manually managing music and video with an iPhone.

    Hi Rodobaldo,
Let's try to clear up this issue for you, I'd like to clear out the music on your iPod first. You'll want to find the Sync Music Checkbox, uncheck it, then Apply or Sync:
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPod nano, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.
If the above does not resolve your issue, see the following article:

  • Difference Btwn Syncing and Manual?  (I know how)

Is there a difference between syncing and manually adding your music to your ipod? I mean, I know auto syncing does it automatically and manual you have to add the music in, but . . . does syncing do or add anything else to your ipod other than music? Or are they both the same, just the 'management' part of it is different? Thanks.

Hey thanks. For some reason I always thought that auto-syncing added alot more than just the music to the ipod. Don't know why I thought this. I'm ok w/ratings and playcounts not being added as I don't pay attention to this anyways.
Since we have a new computer and new itunes, we finally got out of the 'registration loop' we had been in and can now get to the summary page to actually manually manage things. Thanks again!

  • I can no longer sync music, books and ring tones

I recently updated my iTunes, and something has changed.  I can sync music and audio books - but it erases my ring tones.  I noticed this, and attempted to sync my ring tones -- only to lose all of my music and audio books. I have the "manually manage music and videos" box checked (though the check keeps disappearing).  This is so frustrating!  Anyone know what's going on?

  • Can't Sync Music after installing OS4 on brand new ipod

Bought a new 8gb touch today, apps all moved over fine but anytime try to sync music manually or automatically, I get message error occured and Itunes shuts down.
Have reinstalled itunes to no avail and tried using a different cable.
Tried to restore to factory settings but still have OS4.
Only thing I have done today is install the update and after reading all the post's here wish I hadnt.
Any ideas folks, thanks in advance

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

  • My iPod 5 will not sync ANY music. All my music was on prior to syncing. The sync deleted all my music. I can now no longer add any music. I have the "sync music" checked. Restoring factory settings did not work. Any thoughts?

When you synced with iTunes It would have tried to replace the music on the iPhone with what is on the computer. which is what happens when you sync with iTunes.
If the songs are purchased you can re-downloaded them Pretty easily. You mentioned that you still see the songs and that you could not play them. Do they have a Cloud symbol next to them? If so this means that you can download them but that they are not on the device.
