Differences: Outlooksoft 4.x Vs. SAP BPC 7.0 MS

- What are the improvements and differences involved in SAP BPC 7.0 MS compared to OutlookSoft 4 in all possible areas (security, architecture, reports, etc.)?

You may need to ask this question to SAP sales person because there are a lot of change in architecture, functions and platforms.
Here is the main reason why user have to upgrade.
4.2 only support SQL2000 and Microsoft will not support it any more.
In addition, SQL2000 could not support X64 DB server.

Differences between SEM BCS and SAP BPC

Hello All,
Can you please let me know the differences between SEM BCS and SAP BPC. What I know is SEM BCS is an SAP product for Financial Consolidation (Legal and Management). SAP BPC is the new product taken over from Outlooksoft. It also features the consolidationa and planning functionalities. Can you please suggest which is a better product.

There is nothing like better or worse product.
BCS has some strong features like consolidation monitor, investment consolidation and for most consolidation functions, configuration is very easy. In BPC, you may have to write scripts.
BCS has BW as the backbone where for BPC 5.1 there is none. Howveer, in BPC 7.0, the BPC will rest on BI and things will be much better.

SAP BPC 5. 0 VS Outlooksoft 5.0 SP 2

What are the main differences between SAP BPC 5. 0 /5.1 VS Outlooksoft 5.0 SP 2 ?
As far as i know Outlooksoft 5.0 is the newer version of Outlooksoft Everest. Since SAP Acquired Outlooksoft, they renamed to its own brand SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 5.0 and later 5.1.
One more question: Does BPC 5.1 works with Oracle 10 G ? It seems like OS 5.0 works with Oracle but could not find any information if BPC 5.1 works with Oracle.
If it is being developed currently, what are the time table for next release that works with Oracle 10G
Any answers would be greatly appreciated !!!

on the find look for "Business Planning and Consolidation", I tried for BCP but it didn't find anything.
there you can find the details about DB released, OSs ...
On the DB tabs I can only find MS SQL Server, then, it does not work (or it is not supported) with Oracle at all

How to Run Allocation in Outlooksoft Everest 4.2 or SAP BPC 5.1

Hello,
Currently we use OS Everest 4.2 and we are in the Process of installing SAP BPC 5.1. We haven't used OS or BPC for allocation. I am trying to find a document that helps us guide through the process of creating a Allocation rules / formulas.
We found a Allocation Manual in Old Outlooksoft Support site and tried using it but it doesn't work or may be I am doing something wrong.
This is a Sample Allocation formula that we were just trying to see if it works.

*DIM ACCOUNTS WHAT=AMOUNT; WHERE=<<<; USING = COUNT

Error occured
If you have any documents that will show the step by step instructions on how ALLOCATION works and how to implement, please send it. I didn't find any thing in the helpfile. Its very difficult to figure out without any documentation.

First of all, I am feeling for you. It is very hard situation that thousand of users has own local "MyDocument" folder in local PC.
Folder structure between 5.1 and 4.2 is almost identical. Only difference is name of folder in My Documents. It was "Everest" in 4.2 but "OutlookSoft" in 5.1.
And there is couple more differences but it is going to recover automatically. Something like dimension cache, appinfo archive.
So, I like to suggest rename current "Everest" to "OutlookSoft" in My Documents. And do some test. I think biggest issue of here is report functionality between two versions.
At least, simple rename procedure is much easier than copy all reports to correct path.

The functionality in BPC mainly 1) Planning 2) Consolidation
1) Planning : You can have any type planning scenario. Ex.: Sales planning. Based on the actual previous data
we will have some projection reports on the sales for future sales, so we can have planning scenario here . We can change
the projections as per our requirement for any number of times.
Ex 2: HR Planning. Based on the market condition we have recruitment planning, based on the actual data (Existing Emp.)
Ex 3: Accounts Expenditure planning like this we can have planning forecastings.
2) Consolidations : We can consolidate the group company, companies with currency translations, allocations, Inter Unit
eliminations, consolidated P&L accounts & Consolidated Balance Sheets are possible in this.
But where as in BCS you can do only 2 part. The first part is not possible. Hence I personally suggest you to learn BPC NW
it will be more useful. BPC is now going to integrated with BO (Buss. Objects) also from 7.5 ver onwards.

In addition to above statements, BPC is a whole sole product which might be based on SQL server ( BPC MS version) or BI ( BPC NW version) as a back-end data support. It also has very special and distinguished functionalities like, Excel reporting, business process flows, work status, much bettter configured security structure, Inter company eliminations, currency translation, account transformation and likes. It includes both the Planning and Consolidation reporting.
Whereas, IP is totally dependent upon BI data source and also doesnot have many good functionalities which are user-friendly.

Along with the link that Umesh provided, you can find further information under the tabs above, (i.e., downloads, elearning, ...). Other than the wealth of information provided under this network you will need to enroll in SAP-BPC training ($$$).
Please don't take the following personally, you have some very good and valid questions.
I have seen the mess created by people, (some very smart) trying to implement BPC without any real training or experience. I don't recommend it!
I see so many people trying to implement BPC and the questions they post on this forum only demonstrates the individuals lack of knowledge of BPC to the whole world. Don't forget, this is a public forum and many companies/clients/users read the posts to this forum.
This is a great forum for the exchange of information and ideals by people that have anywhere from fundamental to high level expertise with the BPC; there is information posted here you will not find elsewhere. I know some of the people that use to monitor and respond to questions, (some great stuff) now refuse to be bothered because of the people seeking to use this forum for training/education.

Upgrade to SAP BPC 7.0 with cluster system (Front-End & Back-End)

I have to do an upgrade document about an outlooksoft 5.0 SP2 to SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 in a cluster system.
It has 2 front-ends (IIS cluster windows) & 2 back-ends (SQL Cluster).
We are going to do first the migration in 1 node, and then in another. The first upgrade in the first node I understand. I uninstall outlookdoft 5.0, install SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 and then restore the backup of the Appset, and do the posts upgrade action of the Dimension TIME.
But in the second, what do we do??? I uninstall outlookdoft 5.0, install SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 and then what??? Do I have to restore the backup of the Appset again???
I need help.

Hello,
On the second cluster node, you have only to install the software, nothing related to the appset. If you alreay run the migration stepts for the appset, all the information are into daatbase and file server.
However, the normal behaviour is to make the installation on the both nodes, make the basic tests to validate the installation and then proceed with the appset migration.

Dear Expert,
I'm a newbie on SAP BPC 7.5 NW and had a knowledge of SAP BPC 7M before. I found several articles and information about BPC 7.0 NW and never ever touch in BPC NW system, I would like to make sure and maybe more tips from experts. My questions are:
1. BPC 7M have a dimension in excel format for an user enter members, BPC 7.5NW have same format with BPC 7M ? If not, could I know how an user enter members please ?
2. I read some articles BPC 7NW for load data for reports, the first step we must to do that create BPC cube which is data from BW cube. Is it correct or maybe BPC 7.5NW have new features ?
3. Regarding point no 2, Is it correct that data from SAP ECC must be in BW cube first and then create BPC cube for SAP BPC ?

Hi,
In the NW version also, the members are maintained in the same way in the MS platform.
You can load transaction data from a flat file or from a BI cube or from a file in the application server.
The NW and the MS platforms are very similar with a very few differences.

Multiple SQL Queries in SAP BPC 5.1 EVMODIFY

We have multiple SQL Queries in Outlooksoft 4.2 which extracts data from Oracle source system with different set of selections and conditions and parameters. We were able to use multiple SQL Queries in Outlooksoft 4.2 using Transform Data Flow Task and paste parameters using evModify dynamic script task, where ever extract to source system is needed.
According to SAP BPC 5.1, all these multiple SQL Queries and extracts by passing parameters will be coded in EVMODIFY dynamic script editor.But, EVMODIFY dynamic script editor is not working with the sets of multiple SQL Queris.It's able to recognize and execute the first SQL Query, but not able to execute from the second SQL Query.
Does any body, did multiple extracts using SQL Queries to the source system by passing parameters using SAP BPC 5.1 data manager and SSIS Packages, please let me know, how you did achieve the above functionality.

Thanks for your update, I tried declaring the variable between %%....GLOBAL(%GTIMEID%,%SELECTION%) and the package runs now but the problem is that the package is executed using the default date value for the variable GTIMEID declared in the DTSX package and its not taken the date that I'm trying to pass from BPC. Uninstall SAP BPC 7.0

Hi all,
I have problem uninstalling the SAP BPC 7.0 on Microsoft Platform.
When I uninstall through Windows Add/Remove Component, the wizard
stuck at the Removing Sample OLAP database?
Any idea what am I missing out here? Is there a uninstall guide I can follow?

Or the unistall user is not OLAP administrator.
Or uninstall user doesn't rights to delete databases from SQL.
Or apshell was not created during the installation and the system is looking to delete the database but this doesn't exist.
Or installation was bad and connection to OLAP and SQL is wrong.
I think if you kill the process and remove the key registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE- SOFTWARE - OUTLOOKSOFT then you will be able to continue your process or to reinstall.
Please open also a OSS message to be sure that we will trace this issue.

Notice that there are several BPC solutions. First one is original SAP based on NetWeaver. Then there is BusinessObject Solution (in 2 versions: for SAP NetWeaver; for Microsoft platform) then there is 3rd solution of BPC for Microsoft platform (Outlooksoft based).

SAP BPC Updating Dimension and Elements whilst users are logged in?

Hi Kaveenga,
Yes, dimension hierachies can be updated and elements can be added without users having to log out, but any changes will not be reflected in the users' reports until they log out and back into BPC. Also, until the users have logged out and back in to BPC, there is potential for users to retrieve incorrect data depending on the changes that were made to the dimensions or if other users have subsequently changed data using the updated dimensions.

I'm trying to find what ports do I have to open to my firewall to let the customer in to the SAP BPC from the MS Office (Excel, Word or PowerPoint).
I've tried to find it, but I didn't fiond anything in the manuals.

You really need to go through the Master & Installation guide as Alwin pointed out. This guide will easily answer questions like this as well as the other question you have posted lately.
From the guide;
If your Application, Web, or Reporting Services server components will be
accessed through a firewall, you should verify with your network
administrator which TCP ports to choose during the installation of
OutlookSoft. By default, port 80 is the setting for standard http access,
and port 443 is the setting for https access. If you require a service to
listen on a different port, you can specify it during the installation program
in u2018Advanced Settings.u2019 See Standard and Advanced settings on page 18.
u2022 Make sure all required server ports are open, and there is communication
between the physical servers on which you are going to install the server
components.
All required ports must be opened for inbound/outbound traffic. By default,
OutlookSoft requires that Ports 80 (used by http) and 1443 (used by SQL
2000/2005), 2725 (used by OLAP 2000) and 2383 (used by OLAP 2005)
are open. For information on the required ports, see Server Manager Help.

Refresh/Copy of SAP BPC/HANA Environment

Hi experts,
We are running SAP BPC on HANA with BW as our EDW. We would like to refresh our Regression environment with Production. However, i understand that with HANA technology the refresh may not be as simple as just a copy exercise.
Could you please advise on what are the steps or procedures that we need to take note of when undertaking such an exercise?

What kind of refresh you are talking about: is it BPC Backup & Restore or system backup and restore?
If it's BPC tool then you shouldn't see any difference from similar procedure on another DB.
If it's HANA backup and restore then it's a completely different thing depending if your HANA box is co-habituated or not.
