Differene between system copy and system refresh

Hi all
can you please tell me the difference among SYSTEM COPY,SYSTEM REFRESH and DB REFRESH

I would consider them all the same. Maybe a "refresh" could be stated as "I restore a backup onto an already installed system" where as system copy means "I install a new system with a backup of another one" but mainly they all mean the same.

  • Difference between system refresh and client refresh

    Hi all,
         I have one dout what is the difference between system refresh and client refresh,kindly tell me the answer?

    krishnamurthy.

    Hi,
    Client is part of a system.
    Client copy :Can happen within a single system(local client copy)  or to other system (i.e b/w systems) .
    Here we have some profiles to extract the data depending on the need.
    System Copy: We are copying the entire system to other system.we get the entire systems data (DB) .
    In both the cases we have to make sure that they are on same application component and are on same patch level.
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
    Can anybody tel me the exact difference between Database Cloning and Database Refresh?
    I Have some conflicts in these topics.
    Thanks

    Refresh is what it says, "refresh" . You have a main site which would always have the data being inserted into it. There would be another site which would remain some where else . This site needs to be refreshed with the primary site. So you need to do export from the primary, push it to the secondary site and done!

  • System copy and database refresh

    Can any one nagotiate me about system refresh and databaswe refresh.

    Hi,
    System Copy means copying the contents of the system into another including data i,.e Table Data. It comprises entire user settings, data will be copied.
    In the database refresh, table contents (data) are refreshed.

  • What is the differene between filter operation and NL semi join?

    Hi, all.
    The oracle is 10gR2 and 11gR2.
    There are differences between filter operation and HASH/MERGE semi join in processing subqueries.
    But I could not see the difference between filter operation and NL semi join?
    (the only thing I know is that filter operation has caching mechanism, but I am not sure in case of NL semi)
    What are the pros and cons of each of them?
    Thanks in advance.

    What are they? When you make a statement like that post the information (and links to it) that backs up your statement.

    We can't 'see the difference' either; you didn't post anything for us to look at.

    Each of what? Again - you need to be as specific as possible if you want specific feedback.
    Also, since you generally should not use hints in production code anyway what difference does it make what the differences are? Oracle will make the choice.
    Without anything specific to comment on about all we can do is provide several links that talk about joins and how to produce and examine them. These are all from Jonathan Lewis's Scratchpad:
    http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/?s=semi-join

    http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/2011/06/08/how-to-hint-1/ -- how to hint for joins
    Check out those articles. Pay attention to how, in each one, he doesn't just provide a text description but also provides code and explains the code.
    In other words he provides all of the specific information needed to illustrate what he is talking about. That is what you need to do if you need help with a specific topic: provide the query, plans and output that you yourself are using as the basis of your question. That lets us see EXACTLY what you are talking about.

  • Difference between r/3 refresh and database refresh

    Dear guru's

    Hi Raj,
    Database refresh, I believe is one of the ways you could refresh your SAP systems.
    E.g Oracle database specific refresh is one of the ways. In this, I think you would export, move and then import cold backup of the database.
    Easiest way to get more information is to search for the System refresh (or System copy) master guide from Market place or help.sap.com.

  • By copy and by reference

    Hello,
    What is the difference between "by copy" and "by reference" ? How can I show their difference?
    Regards,
    V~.~!

    All parameters to methods are passed "by value." In other words, values of parameter variables in a method are copies of the values the invoker specified as arguments. If you pass a double to a method, its parameter is a copy of whatever value was being passed as an argument, and the method can change its parameter's value without affecting values in the code that invoked the method. For example:
    class PassByValue {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            double one = 1.0;
            System.out.println("before: one = " + one);
            halveIt(one);
            System.out.println("after: one = " + one);
        public static void halveIt(double arg) {
            arg /= 2.0;     // divide arg by two
            System.out.println("halved: arg = " + arg);
    }The following output illustrates that the value of arg inside halveIt is divided by two without affecting the value of the variable one in main: before: one = 1.0
    halved: arg = 0.5
    after: one = 1.0You should note that when the parameter is an object reference, the object reference -- not the object itself -- is what is passed "by value." Thus, you can change which object a parameter refers to inside the method without affecting the reference that was passed. But if you change any fields of the object or invoke methods that change the object's state, the object is changed for every part of the program that holds a reference to it. Here is an example to show the distinction:
    class PassRef {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Body sirius = new Body("Sirius", null);
            System.out.println("before: " + sirius);
            commonName(sirius);
            System.out.println("after:  " + sirius);
        public static void commonName(Body bodyRef) {
            bodyRef.name = "Dog Star";
            bodyRef = null;
    }This program produces the following output: before: 0 (Sirius)
    after:  0 (Dog Star)Notice that the contents of the object have been modified with a name change, while the variable Sirius still refers to the Body object even though the method commonName changed the value of its bodyRef parameter variable to null. This requires some explanation.
    The following diagram shows the state of the variables just after main invokes commonName:
    main()            |              |
        sirius------->| idNum: 0     |
                      | name --------+------>"Sirius"
    commonName()----->| orbits: null  |
        bodyRef       |______________|At this point, the two variables sirius (in main) and bodyRef (in commonName) both refer to the same underlying object. When commonName changes the field bodyRef.name, the name is changed in the underlying object that the two variables share.
    When commonName changes the value of bodyRef to null, only the value of the bodyRef variable is changed; the value of sirius remains unchanged vecause the parameter bodyRef is a pass-by-value copy of sirius. Inside the method commonName, all you are changing is the value in the parameter variable bodyRef, just as all you changed in halveIt was the value in the parameter variable arg. If changing bodyRef affected the value of sirius in main, the "after" line would say "null". However, the variable bodyRef in commonName and the variable sirius in main both refer to the same underlying object, so the change made inside commonName is visible through the reference sirius.
    Some people will say incorrectly that objects are passed "by reference." In programming language design, the term pass by reference properly means that when an argument is passed to a function, the invoked function gets a reference to the original value, not a copy of its value. If the function modifies its parameter, the value in the calling code will be changed because the argument and parameter use the same slot in memory. If the Java programming language actually had pass-by-reference parameters, there would be a way to declare halveIt so that the preceding code would modify the value of one, or so that commonName could change the variable Sirius to null. This is not possible. The Java programming language does not pass objects by reference; it passes object references by value. Because two copies of the same reference refer to the same actual object, changes made through one reference variable are visible through the other. There is exactly one parameter passing mod -- pass by value -- and that helps keep things simple.

  • Difference between system copy and Remote Client copy?

    Hi,
    Can any body suggest me , What are the major difference between System copy and Remote Client Copy.
    As per my knowledge , Both are different
    1.In system copy  entire data recovered mean copy from Source to target
    2.In Remote client copy All  Client data can't me import if you choose SAP_ALL profile also
          I hope Transaction data and user data can't copied
    Anybody share this Question and Give me some idea about this
    If anybody  give brief explanation that is very gratefull.
    regards,
    Balaram

    Hi,
    System copy will replicate all database from source to target system.
    In remote copy only client in which you are performing the copy will get refresh. Also, remote client copy will be done between systems on same patch level. with SAP_ALL profile you can bring all data in target system including your transactional data.
    Thanks
    Sunny
