Different airdisk behavior in lion?

Hi,
I have a 4th gen airport extreme with a WD external attached as an airdisk, and I've had this same setup since Snow Leopard. I do SuperDuper! backups to this airdisk. My question is if I'm sitting near my airdisk I often hear it now spin for a few seconds and then stop, and this repeats maybe every 10 minutes or so. This is when the disk is in an "idle" state. I can't be 100% sure but I did not notice this behavior with Snow Leopard. As far as I can tell there are no settings that I can adjust, so did something change in Lion? Or should I maybe be looking into updating the firmware for my external? Any advice would be great thanks!

A slow boot time can be caused by login items.

Open System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items
Remove one login item noted above then restart your Mac to test. It may be one or multiple items causing the slow boot.

Problem with different calendars under Mountain Lion

I upgraded recently from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and experiencing an annoying problem with the calendars "On My Mac" (I am using a MacBook Pro from mid 2009). With iCal under Snow Leopard I had seven calendars - Meetings, Performances, Family, etc. with different colors. After the switch to Mountain Lion these categories aren't maintained properly. Four of them have been seemingly merged into two, so that for example an event can't be categorized as "Family" but gets shifted automatically to "Meetings" (both calendars stay checked in the editing panel, but only one "sticks"). So I have three calendars I can use and a four I can't.
If I try to add a new calendar it appears in the list, but no event can be assigned to it.
Is there a limit to the number of calendars one can have?
I don't use iCloud, so there is no issue there.
I have one Google calendar (a work schedule I have subscribed to ) which also works with no problems.
Any ideas?

Different LOV behavior between SQL query data model and data template

I have noticed different behavior when using parameters linked to list of values (LOV) of type menu with the multiple selection option enabled and a SQL query data model vs a data template. Here's the example because that first sentence was probably really confusing.

Note the exception because it is trying to convert the multiple parameter values.
Am I doing something completely wrong here? I really need to use a data template because I will need to link a couple of queries together from different database vendors.

This is for 10.1.3.4 - because in 11g every SQL query is automatially part of a data model.
In 10g SQL query is for simple unrelated SQL queries.
If you need to use advance features such as:
a) multiple SQL queries that are joined in master-detail relation ships
b) before/after report triggers
Then you will need to use the data template, which is an XML description
of the queries, links, and PL/SQL calls.

Different Browser Behavior Between enviroments.

Hopefully someone can lend some insight on this one.
I have an MSPS 2010 user that is having difficulties rendering pages from our non-production enviroment (basically anything with a grid control).
Her production instance performs as intended.
What makes this particularly puzzling is that she and I compared browser settings (IE 8) and she and I are set up the same (from what I can tell). I am having no issues rendering in iether production and non-production.
Any thoughts as to where I should look to further trouble shoot and resolve? Any and all input is appreciated.

Also try using the browser In-Private mode and see if it behaves the same.
And also try using Chrome or FoxFire.
I have seen similar issues with the same browser and found out that the behavior was different because each browser had a different update version to it. Look in the control panel and see if both are running the same patched version.

Different Database Behavior for UAT and PRO in same DB

Hi All,
The UAT and Production Documentum schemas reside in the same database instance referring to different applications.
Problem is when I run the same query to production it send me result in a second but in UAT it takes for ever and also its shows the different plan if do explain in UAT and PRO.
OS windows 64Bit
DB 10.2.0.3
There is frequent, automated data load.
The indexes are rebuilt every other day.

I am gathering the statistics for the full database statement is .
execute dbms_stats.gather_database_stats(ESTIMATE_PERCENT => 99, CASCADE => TRUE)
I tried to gather the stats on schema but no effect.
No of indexes are same in UAT and Pro.
I am still confuse if we have less data do it change the plan and if it did it should be faster.
Thats the max it got format. is there any other way i can format that or send u.

Why audio sounds different in the Mountain Lion over 10.6

Hi
I just upgraded my system OS 10.6.8 to the latest 10.8.4, and I found that audio on the 10.8.4 sounds different.
I did some tests and I can say that audio when listening on the 10.8.4 has less bass content and the hi-mids are more agressive.
I running the audio studio on my Mac Pro and this was a big dissapointment for me.
Also I rendered audio file from Logic Pro 9 on the both system and they are the same, but when you listening on the 10.6.8 it sounds correct while on 10.8.4 sounds different. I have the same audio drivers from RME Fireface 800 on both systems. In tests I used identical Logic arrangement file on both systems.
I just don't like the sound on the new system at all. It is worse than it was on the 10.6.8.
I switched to the Snow Leopard again and I regret that I puchased your latest OS. Why it is done? Apple?

Logging in to Mac App Store on different Mac to install Lion?

Hey there folks, I hope this question isn't too confusing. I also hope it's not against any forum policies. I have two MacBook Pros and one of them is currently used by my mother. I gave it to her as a gift and upon giving it to her, I signed her in to her own Apple ID for the Mac App Store so she can buy her own apps. My question is- Could I log in to the Mac App Store with my ID for the purpose of installing Lion on her Mac, but then log her back under her own account? And if I do this, will it screw up Lion? Thanks in advance for any help!

Short answer: Nope.
The user agreement allows you to install the software on as many devices as you like <provided> they are all using the sam Apple ID. If you were to login to your own account in order to redownload Lion onto your mother's computer, you'd have a problem logging her back into her own ID. She'd lose access to apps and her iTunes-purchased content.

Reactivate SN resume-from-sleep behavior in Lion?

Most of the time when I put my MacBook to sleep Lion will recreate my desktop environment as I left it, all eight spaces. Occasionally, however, when it wakes from sleep Lion will run that annoying resume feature. All kinds of windows get restored with content that doesn't interest me anymore I can't seem to get rid of Activity Monitor and the Console app, the Finder windows from Spaces 2 through 8 get bunched up in Space 1, resume just doesn't seem to know about the existence of mvim, texmaker doesn't open the last used files, Mathematica just stands there grinding away with all windows darkened and unrepsonsive... the list goes on.... and on..... and on....
I know you can close apps with the [alt]+[cmd]+[Q] shortcut to discard windows but I never remember to do that.
You can disable the resume crap on an app-for-app basis by running: 'defaults write com.apple.<INSERT_APPNAME> ApplePersistenceIgnoreState YES' from the command line. This already worked for over a dozen apps but chasing down the correct write string for a couple of dozen apps is tedious.
I also know about the check button in the quit screen and the global disabling option in system setting.
None are adequate solutions except for point #2 which helped alot but didn't solve the problem. So my question is: Is it possible to deactivate resume and reactivate the old sleep behaviour from Snow Leopard? It worked prefectly every time and didn't open files from last session which I have absoloutely no interest in now.

Same happening here. I also have a problem with Mail.app crashing when I close the window with cmd+w. My upgrade to Mountain Lion was applied Lion that had been migrated from my old MacBook.
The migrated setup was working fine for just over a week before I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Unfortunately I didn't check that Time Machine was backing up my machine and it turns out I don't have that as an option of rolling back to Lion.
Hoping that a fix is found to both problems. Fairly confident given that other people are reporting the same, even on a clean upgrade.

APEX 3.0: Different substitution behavior between 2.2 and 3.0 in HTML regio

It looks like that I have a serious problem here, at least for me.
I have a HTML region which contains a compressed JavaScript file. It looks like that the compression produces a &b. somewhere in the code.
In APEX 2.2 that was not a problem, the &b. was not touched, because it is a non-existing application item/page item.
But in APEX 3.0 this gets replaced by <nothing>, which brakes my JavaScript code. :-(
This is quite easy to reproduce if you know what the problem is, but if you have to hunt that down in a 20.000 byte big compressed java-script code... :-)

Different image behavior within same document

Hello,
I'm making a catalog for which I got photos from various sources but mainly white background JPGs. I noticed that when I place them in InDesign document some of them have transparent background and some not. I checked in photoshop and background value is the same for all of them but they behave differently. For example, when I click on an element in a picture with a transparent background InDesign automatically recognizes border of an element in the picture which can be quite useful if you want to change background color inside InDesign but I don't know how to achieve that intentionally. Here is one pic so you can see how it looks like.

JPGs cannot be transparent. JPGs cannot have Clipping Paths.
You need to create a Clipping Path in Photoshop and aply the Path and save the image as a PSD or a TIFF

Alternatively you can remove the background and save as a PSD or TIFF (select to save transparency in the options)

You can of course use within InDesign the Object>Clipping Path>Options and Detect Edges
Alter the Tollerance and Threshold to get desired result but it probably won't be as accurate as the above methods.

Strange internet behavior in Lion 10.7.2

After updating to Lion 10.7.2 something very strange started happening. While using Safari the internet bogs down at random (the connection still works) it just doesn't load pages at all for a moment and then continues like nothing happened afterwards until next bogdown. The strange thing is that if I while the internet doesn't work connect my iPhone 4 to the same WiFi as the mac is connected to the connection speeds up again and continues to work.
I don't know if it is some very strange bug or could it be the router that has problem with handling some iCloud syncing that the mac does to check for new "things" or something like that?

You need version 1.3 of Growl, according to some other poster. I didn't know people still used it - it has always been a pain, and caused some of the most troublesome performance issues on a Mac using any version of OS X.
It's dis-allowed at my site that has Macs, for several hundred users - too many, random, headaches. I know the techs don't put it on any of the machines at the college where my day job is, and the machines are locked down........

Opening different iWeb Sites in Lion

Hello all,
I wanted to open one of my four sites in LION 10.7.1 but iWeb is openeing always the same site ...???
I managed thes sites without any problems in 10.6.x.

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
NOTE: If you repair disk permissions with Disk Utility on your boot drive you may have to rerun the script with Terminal to make the Library folder visible again.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.

You cannot change the label of Desktop 1, Desktop 2 etc. in Mountain Lion.
I don't believe it was possible in Lion either.
