Different Apple ID yet same contacts?

Ok I'm having a lot of trouble with Contacts. Prior to updating to IOS 8 me and my wife shared the same apple ID. After upgrading to IOS 8 we started to receive phone calls on the both phones instantaneously as if our phones had two phone numbers and whoever called my phone called my wife's as well. After speaking to Verizon they advised me that IOS 8 update forces people to use separate apple IDs. Fine no problem. I created a new apple ID for my wife and set it up on her phone. Then I set her icloud up and here are where the problems started. Somehow even though her apple id and icloud accounts are different then mine her contacts keep wiping out my contacts as if these are still connected. What is going on? I tried deleting contacts from my and her iclouds which would erase both of our contacts from phones then I went in and imported 200 contacts into her icloud account and they also imported into my account. WHY? This makes no sense! Different icloud and apple id's yet her we are sharing contacts. Yes we are set up for family sharing but does that mean my contacts will appear in her contacts and hers in mine? All I want is my icloud to have my contacts and her icloud to have hers.

Actually, there was a very simple fix to what was happening with your phone calls, and the misinformation that you received from Verizon compounded your issue. What happens is phones logged into the same ICloud account will both ring when the devices are together on the same Wi-Fi network. The fix for that is to go into Settings>FaceTime>iPhone cellular calls>OFF. That would have fixed the phone ringing.
As far as the iCloud issue; did you delete the original iCloud account from your wife's phone before making all of the other changes? I'm also not real familiar with the family sharing thing right now, but I'm not sure that has anything to do with contacts. I believe that just has to do with purchases, but I could be wrong. You may need to look at the User Guide to get more information about family sharing. http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf  I cannot help you with the iCloud account issue other than what I provided, as I do not use separate iCloud accounts in our family.

No. You cannot link your contacts to hers. However, you can use Home Sharing to share the information:

  • HT5622 can you still share music on itunes with different apple id?  My daughters and I share the same itunes account but . . noticed this is not a good idea.  Both our contacts get merged.  sometimes my pictures end up on their phone!

Is there a way to share the itunes music with different people in your household without having to share the phone contacts?  Do I need to have a different apple id?

It's ok to share the same AppleID for iTunes.  Use Separate ID's for iCloud, iMessage, and Facetime.

But there is another error message behind with a keypad and this time I cannot dismiss the weather center dialog.

  • We have a few different apple products, but we don't need them all to have the same information. How do I keep everything from automatically being shared thru iCloud? For example, I don't need our contacts on the device our kids use

    ...

You don't have to use iCloud at all. You can either log in with a different Apple ID, or just log out and not use any Apple ID.
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (it just deletes it from the device). It won't affect the Apple ID logged into FaceTime, iTunes, iMessage, etc.

My family owns 3 computers, how can we share, or better yet, centralize our music when we have 3 different Apple ID?
How can we sync all 3 computers music content on itunes Match? Even when only one purchases music?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photosstream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
If only one of you purchases content from iTunes (this includes Books and apps too) then I suggest you use that account for each of you for iTunes only.

  • How can i have a different Apple ID for my 2 iphones, currently both are having the same Apple IDs and all data is getting sync which i don't want to happen?

Pls suggest
    Thanks

Yes, you can certainly create a new Apple ID at appleid.apple.com (which will have to be associated with a different email address from your current ID) and then change the various settings and applications on one of your iPhones to use this new ID.

  • HT204053 My husband and I both have iPhones but we only have one iPad. We use the same apple ID because we also share the same email address. How would this work with iCloud because we don't share the same contacts?  Thanks Elainecontacts

My husband and I both have an iPhone and we share an iPad. We also share the same email address so how would this work with iCloud because we don't share all the same contacts?
    Thanks

An icloud account is designed to be used by one user.  That user can have all his/her devices synced with the same Apple data (email, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc.) .  When two people use the same account, then problems usually occur when one user edits data that the other user doesn't want changed on their device.  You can continue sharing the same ID for the itunes account in order to share the purchased music, apps, etc.  itunes accounts and icloud accounts are different.
It's by far better that each user has his/her own icloud account.

  • TS3510 I have 3 different apple devices using the same Apple ID and would like to use FaceTime to call from one device to the other.  Do I need a different Apple ID for one of the devices in order to do that?

I have 3 different apple devices (iPod Touch, iPad and MacBook Pro) using the same Apple ID and would like to use FaceTime to call from one device to the other.  Do I need a different Apple ID for one of the devices in order to do that?

I found this on a related question in the Community:
Yes you can do it. I do it with 4 different devices all using the same Apple ID.
You need to associate different email addresses for each device in order to use those email addresses as the "contact at" email address. The reason the calls are dropping on you now is that what you are trying to do is like calling yourself on your own phone.
You can also create new iCloud accounts on each device simply to use for FaceTime, but I'm guessing that the users of the other two devices have their own email addresses which will make this work for you quite easily.
Take a look at this for more information.
The seems to go against what Gail said and the issue you raised about buying dup apps was my first concern.  If this other post is correct, how to I set a different "contact at" in the iPod Touch?

  • HT204053 I use 2 different apple ID's for two iPhones on my share everything account so how do I automatically download purchases on 1 phone w/1apple ID to 2nd phone w/different I'd on same account

I have 2 IPhones on my Verizon share plan but I am using different Apple ID's on each phone as well as 2 icloud accounts. Should I be using the same apple & icloud I'd on both phones? I want to automatically recieve paid apps on both devices using either apple ID because of the shared account.Maybebsome of our free apps also. Help please

Using same apple id for itunes and app store and enabling auto downloads will do what you want. Just leave different apple ids for icloud. That will preserve your contacts and calendars separate, give you extra storage and ability to communicate with imessage and facetime.

  • How can I set up two iPhones with the same contact, photos, music etc... but a different sim card and phone number. They will both be my phones, but one will be for use in other countries.

Phone A = phone with information you want duplicated
Phone B = phone that you want to copy from A
    Backup Phone A.
Wipe Phone B using these instructions. What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Phone B should be on the 'Hello' screen. Do not swipe it. Launch iTunes. Plug in Phone B.
When iTunes asks if you want to set up as new phone or restore from backup, choose restore from backup of Phone A.
After this setup, any changes to one phone (i.e. adding a contact, downloading an app) will have to be manually duplicated on the second phone, if that is your desire). Making changes to one phone will not affect the other after setup.

Can I sync my iPhone and my wife's iPhone calenders through the same iCloud account? Or do I need to set up 2 different apple id's and iCloud's

No, I would recommed to use two separate iCloud accounts for mail, calendars, notes, reminders, contacts etc.

  • Can I share contacts between different Apple ID accounts on Icloud?

I would like my wife to have access on her iPhone to the contacts on my iPhone. We have different Apple ID's. Can I share my contacts with her through iCloud?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I specifically do not want to have her use my ID because any changes she makes would affect my contact list. Somewhere along the line, i thought someone said that contacts can be shared between iCloud accounts. Perhaps I did not hear it right. I think what I will do is transfer my contact list to our desktop computer (which is set up with the same ID as my wife's iPhone).
    Thanks, again, for your time.

  • My dad and i share the same apple ID and now we have the same contacts. Help please

When my dad got a new phone he got all of my contacts because we have the same apple ID so how do i get my contacts off of his phone and also if he deletes one of my contacts off of his phone it gets deleted off of my phone. Can someone help me? Thank you

To fix this, one of you needs to migrate to a new, separate, iCloud account.  To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow, then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com from your computer and delete the other person's data from your account.
