Different apple ids for family members?

I thought the Apple ID was perfectly clear, but now I'm not so sure.
My wife and I are sharing 1 Apple ID. But, now that icloud seems to link up 1 user's devices and libraries, it looks as if we should have separate accounts. If one of us creates a new account, will we then lose access to apps and songs downloaded under the 1 account?

If you use a different Apple ID then all purchased items associated with another Apple ID can be used but cannot be updated or re-downloaded except under the Apple ID used to purchase them.

  • Do I need individual apple ids for family members?

We are 5, each with either ipod touch or iphone. How do I keep track of it all and maintain sepatate music and apps for each device?

Each family member needs to create their own Apple ID (for which each will need a different non-Apple email address). They can then each create their own iCloud account, but they will need either to be using their own Macs, or if they are sharing a Mac, each will need a separate User account.

  • Should I have different Apple IDs for different family members or one?

We are four members in a family, sharing the same iMac computer but each having a separate device (such as an iPod, iPad and iPhone). I'm wondering if it would be best to have separate Apple IDs for each family member to manage things like iMessage, iTunes purchases and so on. I'd appreciate any advice you can provide. Cheers!

The ideal would be to have different Apple IDs for each member. This will allow them to set up their accounts as they like and be able to use iCloud without worrying about the possibility that other members can see their personal data. However, if you want to purchase an app for all the members, you will have to purchase it for each account

If both accounts are authorised on the computer's iTunes that you sync them to, and the relevant apps are on that computer, then you should be able to sync them to both devices. The apps will be tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded them, so only that account will be able to download updates to them.
If you log into the other account on a device and re-download its apps onto them then you risk tying the device to that account for 90 days (and similarly redownloading on a computer's iTunes) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

How can i use 2 different apple ids for imessage and facetime on 1 ipad?

Do you mean can you use one Apple ID for FaceTime and one for iMessage? You should be able to. Or, do you mean, can you log into iMessage (or FaceTime) with two Apple IDs at once? No.

ITUNES - Are there disadvantages to using different Apple IDs for inistalling the .app file not overwrite the previous one at itunes?

In my opinion it is best to use one Apple ID on your computer and iPad. Using multiple IDs causes confusion.
I also suggest that each person with their own iOS device have their own unique Apple ID. On the computer create different accounts for each user so that iTunes on each account can be associated with the correct Apple ID.

  • HT4910 I have multiple accts w different apple Ids for different devices for family members. My question is do we each have our own cloud or can it be accessed by another family member

  • Different Apple IDs for iTunes and iCloud

As a legacy from MobileMe,  I have one Apple ID for iTunes (around 10 years old) that has all of my purchases, and another for iCloud (created later as a requirement of MobileMe) that has all the email, syncing, etc.  Apparently now I can't use Family Sharing because I am signed into iTunes and iCloud with different Apple IDs.
This has caused other issues as well for years, and I would like to once and for all have one Apple ID for both iTunes and iCloud.  What will happen if I start signing into iCloud with my original iTunes Apple ID?  I'm assuming I will lose the following:
-- Any email in the cloud
    -- All calendar info
    -- All notes
    Am I correct?
    Anything else I would lose?
Any way to avoid losing all this?
Is there a better way to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

  • When is Apple going to consolidate different apple IDs for one person?

I have two Apple IDs for some strange reason and have purchased a good deal of music with each.  Why can't you consolidate my two IDs into one?

As just fellow users we have no idea when, or indeed if, Apple will ever allow this. We'll just have to wait and see, though at this point I have no reason to believe this will ever be possible.
    Regards.

  • How can I include two different apple ids in family sharing?

I originally set up my iTunes App Store using a secondary ID, and set up my App Store account somewhat later using my primary Apple ID. I've now set up family sharing with my wife and son, using my iTunes ID as the organizer. I'd like to include my App Store account within the family group but when I try to add my primary ID I get an error message saying "You cannot send an invitation to your own account." Is there any way of getting my App Store account included in my Family Sharing?
I realize that it may have been stupid to set these two accounts up with different Apple ID's in the first place, but when I was setting them up Apple's explanations of how the whole ID and billing system were going to work were almost non-existant. So it was not that I did anything that was clearly out of bounds at the time, and it seems like there should be some way of setting things straight now.

Here's some additional clarification. By "primary ID" I'm referring to the one I use for my mac.com email account. The secondary ID is one that I set up for the iTunes App Store when it started, and I didn't see any need to link it to my mac.com email. Then later, when the Mac App Store got started, I first logged into that using the primary ID without thinking about the connections between the two stores, about which Apple provided no information at that time.
When I set up the family sharing group I used the secondary ID as the organizer, because I was setting it up primarily for iOS use. So that's the id that I have to invite from, and the id I have to send the invitation to is the primary one. I don't think I could set up a second family share group because Apple appears to recognize both IDs as belonging to me, i.e., to the same real name.

  • Different Apple IDs for iTunes Store and iCloud

I am a MobileMe subscriber and need to switch to iCloud soon and I have a question about Music syncing, specifically about Purchased Music, not the Match subscription kind.
My Apple ID for the iTunes Store is not the same as my MobileMe / iCloud Apple ID.
Given the difference in IDs, will my Purchased from iTunes music successfully sync over all devices via iCloud? Or will iCloud not recognize my other (iTunes) ID?
    Thank you

Or am I missing an essential point which is that even on iOS devices a person can sign into iCloud and iTunes in the Cloud separately?
Yes: signing into the iTunes Store is a separate issue from signing into iCloud. I quote:
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
When you first set up your iOS 5 device, enter the Apple ID you want to use with iCloud. If you skipped the setup assistant, sign in to Settings > iCloud and enter the Apple ID you’d like to use with iCloud.
In Settings > Store, sign in with the Apple ID you want to use for store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match). You may need to sign out first to change the Apple ID.
    Mac:
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for iCloud in Apple () menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match) iniTunes > iTunes Store

  • Different Apple IDs for iCloud on 2 iOS5 devices

I have two Apple IDs. When setting up iCloud on myiPad I made the mistake of using a different Apple ID from the one I used on my iPhone, and there doesn't seem to be any way of reversing this so that they both access iCloud with the same Apple ID. Any ideas?

So by clicking the big red "DELETE ACCOUNT" below, it will only delete the ACCOUNT, and not the apps, contacts, etc. etc?
When I updated my iPhone to iOS 5, I used my aunt's account. Now that she has updated her iPhone to iOS 5, she also uses her account and her photos were also in my photostream. I want to use my own account.
Will my aunt still use her ACCOUNT after I delete it?
    Enlighten me, please.

  • Transferring content from one apple device with one apple id to another device with a different apple id. (Family members)

My son has an IPod Touch and uses my apple ID to purchase and download music and movies from the Itunes store. He finally got a job and he purchased an IPhone 5 C and has his own apple ID. What is the easies way for him to transfer the contents of his IPod (that was purchased with my apple id) to his new device that has his own apple id?

iTunes and App store puechaesed are permanently tied to the AppleID used to purchase them. They can't be transfered.
