Different color in different adobe applications!

I noted a difference in color between Lightroom and Photoshop CS4.
If I export the PSD file from Lightroom as .jpg with Adobe RGB profile and then open it in PS I get a different color than if I open the PSD file with same profile!
Very strange indead.
My system is calibrated, monitor and printer, and I get excellent results. I use Adobe RGB throughout. Color is set in Bridge Creative suite color setting. All proof colors are unchecked. The problem is that the files appear different and print different if different applications.
It seams that Lightroom, Preview, Acrobat and Indesign, (even the small thumbnail in Finder) all share same color. (With minor noticeable difference).
However Photoshop looks very different. More saturated.
Can someone explain please?

I don't use Lightroom, but on the Photoshop display side
You need to determine how your apps deal with tagged and untagged images, especially what Default profile they apply-assume-assign when the profile is absent, stripped and/or ignored.
If a thumbnail in OSX Finder shows the problem, that is a big clue because Finder thumbnails are not color managed (Finder is assuming Monitor RGB).
I recommend going here
www.gballard.net/photoshop/pdi_download/
and downloading the iPhotoTESTfolder.zip
That series contains tagged and untagged verisions of AppleRGB, AdobeRGB, sRGB, ProPhotoRGB.
First, look at the image icons in finder (they are all over the place).
Next, drag the download folder into Bridge and observe the thumbnail colors (Bridge assumes sRGB on untagged images)...
+++++++
If your problem apps are displaying color the same as image icons in Finder, then either your app is not colormanaged or the file does not contain an embedded profile.
+++++++
PS:
OSX Safari is a great app for testing JPEG files because it will either read an embedded profile or it will apply the default monitor profile (exactly where I am pointing you to) -- just drag your icon into an open Safari window...

  • Color appearing differently in different Adobe CS5 applications

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me why color tends to appear different on screen in different Adobe applications, even if I have synchronised the color settings for CS5 applications?
The following image provides an example, where you can see the same image viewed in InDesign (top left), Bridge (top right), Photoshop (bottom left) and Acrobat (bottom right).
All the CS5 applications are set to the "Europe General Purpose 3" color setting, and the image has the CMYK profile Coated FOGRA39 (from "Europe General Purpose 3"). The PDF was exported from InDesign with the "Press Quality" preset.
As you can see it appears quite similar in InDesign and Bridge, but really different in Photoshop and Acrobat.
    Thanks,
    Eivind

Hi, I thought you might be Norwegian
I just recently bought the monitor, and since it comes calibrated from the factory (according to Dell) I'm sticking with factory settings so far. I do have a calibrator however. The monitor profile doesn't seem to be the problem though. When checking on my MacBook Pro screen it's the same problem.
Colors seem slightly more consistent after I flattened the PSD file and saved it as a JPEG, even if the color settings are still the same. Note: I have messed with the color of the image since the last screen grab, but it is the same version of the image in all application windows in the screen grab below.
Annoying that you can't trust a layered PSD to come out right. When working with the layered PSD it also made a huge difference when I changed the InDesign export option from regular "Press Quality" to "Press Quality" with the PDF/X-4 standard activated. Is there any good explanation for this?
I'll try changing the CMYK profile settings and see how that turns out.

  • Keep getting "Download Error" when using Adobe Application Manager. Have tried from different areas.

I'm trying to update my CC Illustrator, as there is an issue that has apparently been resolved with a new update.
Whenever I try to update Illustrator, or even download a new application, I get an error window "Download Error.  Try again or contact customer support."
I have tried to download both directly from Adobe Application Manager and from the Creative Cloud website itself.  I have restarted my computer.   This has been happening for 2 days now.  Just can't seem to connect with Adobe Application Manager.
At one  point I got a window message that said to check the Adobe Site Status, and all looked green and fine there.
And this forum appears to be the only "customer support" ???!  I don't see any chat help or phone help.  Is that true?
I can go back to CS4 Illustrator to get the feature that I need (zoom in/out using magic mouse+Option, which is my favorite and essential Illustrator shortcut) but obviously will need to update and download more CC features and programs in the near future.
Thank you for anyone who can help me.

  • SRGB Color Profile Appears Dull in All Adobe Applications

I just installed CS3 in Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on my PC and I have my working color space set as sRGB. The color is dull when opening documents in any Adobe application with the working color space set to sRGB. The color is fixed if I change the working profile to my monitor profile which is "Monitor RGB - Dell 2407WFP-HC"
When in the "Monitor RGB - Dell 2407WFP-HC" profile whenever I open an existing file Photoshop alerts me that the embedded color profile is different than my working profile (all of my existing files are managed as sRGB and on my previous computer the sRGB profile looked perfect.)
Photoshop I could theoretically live with but the same problem occurs in Acrobat and changing the "Working Profile" in Acrobat has no change on how the sRGB managed PDF is being displayed. The same PDF will look fine on another computer.
How do I get sRGB color to display correctly in Adobe applications and not look dull and muted?
Additional Information: The problem is still prevalent when accessing the computer with Remote Desktop which leads me to believe it has nothing to do with my monitor or the video card I am using.

    Bryan Nieman wrote:
    > I fixed it!
I don't think so. But at least you fixed one of several problems ... so the situation now is better but still not perfect.
    Bryan further wrote:
    > My monitor profile appears to be the culprit.
It indeed is. I also have the Dell 2407WFP-HC, and the ICC profile that came with it is rubbish. Don't use it!
When using sRGB as the monitor profile then Adobe applications will render colours the same way as non-colour-managed apps---i. e. everything else under Windows. So now you're having a consistent (but not correct) colour rendition across your whole system, inside and outside Adobe applications. This system-wide consistence is nice ... but problems may, and most likely will, arise as soon as you're trying to match the colour renditions of monitor and printer.
As Tom just has pointed out, the problem is the 2407WFP's actual colour gamut which is not sRGB; it is significantly wider than that. So printed colours will appear muted, or less vivid, in comparision to the colours on the (improperly profiled) monitor. In order to solve this issue, you should use a proper monitor profile in the Color Management tab in the Display dialog in the Control Panel.
This, in turn, leads to two problems. First---where to get a proper monitor profile from? As I said, the original Dell profile that comes with the monitor is badly wrong ... or at least mine is. If you, or anyone, know how to obtain a good canned ICC profile for the Dell 2407WFP-HC then please let me know. Second---as soon as you install a monitor profile that is different from sRGB (and then re-boot), non-colour-managed applications (notably Windows itself, and e. g. all kinds of web browsers) and colour-managed applications (e. g. all Adobe products) will render colours differently.
If you want both at the same time---i. e. consistent system-wide colour rendition *and* proper colour management---then better switch to Mac. There's a reason why most graphics pros prefer Mac over PC.

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
(a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
This was clarified by the following series of comments:
I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET

@JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

@JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

  • Sharing object across 2 different web application

    Hello,
I do not know if this is a right place to ask this kind of question...
I have two different web applications running on 2 different tomcat servers.
One of them creates one object ( say myComplexClassObject) which is serializable..
and I want to share this object in another web applications.
Both the apps are developed using JSP and servlets.
Is there any way, I can make this object available in another application ?
As the request object can not be used across 2 different contexts, I can not set it as attribute on request.
I tried serializing myComplexClassObject in some test.dat. Problem going by this way is that
how do I send this file to another application ?
What I did is as follows....
In the first app , I created the object and serialized it in one file test.dat. In the same app I read
test.dat and send the content as query parameter to a JSP in another app. That JSP collects all the query parameters
and constructs a big string out of it and then writes it to a file, test2.dat and tries to deserialize this.
File sizes come out to be same. But it gives me StreamCorruptedException.
Any idea, where I am doing wrong ? or any other way to share this object or to send the file to another app?
I can not use FTP for some reasons. Size of the test.dat file is more than 10 KB.

    Some possible solutions:
Use a webservice calls to pass the object,
Use JAXB to convert the object to XML, pass the XMLover HTTP or a socket and use JAXB to convert the XML back into an object.
Store the object as a blob in a database.
Store the object in a Java aware database that can handle Java objects.
Store the data in the object in a database.
I am curious as to what information ot functionality is contained in this object that you feel the need to pass it between two servers.

  • Can I create two different FDM applications in a single database?

    Hi,
Atpresent we are using separate database (MSSQL Server 2008) for each FDM applications, now our databases have increased in numbers due to increase in number of applications.
Now we are searching for any possibility to use a single database for more than one different FDM applications inorder to reduce the new database creation numbers in future.
Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes. Reduce the number of FDM applications you are creating. You can have multiple target system adapters in a single FDM application (i.e. a single database only required). There is no need to create a new application for each target system.

  • Same favorites content in different Java application

    Hi all,
The situation I faced is that there are several Java applications with their corresponding JavaHelp running in one machine. I found that the favorites added in the help of application 1 can be seen in the help of application 2 (even I haven't added any favorites for application 2).
According to the JavaHelp Spec, I know that the favorites are stored in the user's directory in the file userdir/.JavaHelp/Favorites.xml, making favorites to be global for all Java applications. However, I don't think that it is reasonable as the help content for different Java application should be different, so as the favorites.
Is there any way that I can have its own favorites for each Java application?
    Thanks for reading this.

You can copy a component with the same name in a different application if the two applications are based on different schemas.
    Eg: Application1 based on Schema1
    Application2 based on Schema2
You can have a form (Say Form1) in both the applications.

I have a laptop that I use for personal matters and business.  I currently have Photoshop installed on it and linked to my personal Adobe ID.  I am about to install Adobe Digital Editions to use for work and would like to link it to a new Adobe ID I will set up for my work.  Is it possible to use two IDs on one computer, each set up with a different Adobe program?

Adobe Digital Editions however will only support one Adobe ID per computer.  So you would not easily be able to switch between Adobe IDs within Adobe Digital Editions.
