Different colors in preview and colorsync

Hi,
I have a strange problem, probably related to colorsync:
If I open a JPEG picture in Colorsync, the picture has the correct colors, if I open it in Preview, colors are darker.
I thought Preview would be using Colorsync straight away, but it seems there is a difference.
My problem is, that I have been working on several thousands of pictures, which appear correctly in Nikon ViewNX, Nikon Capture NX, Colorsync, Photoshop, Firefox.
These pictures have an embedded Profile 'Nikon Adobe RGB 4.0.0.3001'.
But in Preview, Safari, Finder colors are too dark. I suppose, these apps are based on the same code, but I find no way to make them accept the correct profile.
(I have the same wrong colors in these apps when I convert the files to the IEC sRGB profile.)
Some details about my 'working space':
iMac with Mac OS-X: 10.5.8
Calibrated monitor with Colormunki to 6500, gamma 2.2
Camera Nikon D200 set to Adobe RGB profile
Pictures taken in raw (NEF) format then converted to JPEG with the same Profile embedded, ( or later converted to sRGB).
(It's the jpg pictures which cause the problem - NEF pictures aren't shown correctly in Preview anyway.)
I really can't find an explanation for this effect, but it is annoying, because browsing files with Apple tools like Peview/Slideshow is the standard in MacOS-X.
Thank you for any help,
Fred

  • Different resolution in preview and output format

    Hi Folks
I need your help. We already captured a lot of e-learning material but come to a problem.
The output format quality is less good than the preview quality.
    Win7 /Captivate 6
Capture resolution for software simulation is 1024x768.
Producing the material in swf and html. No compressing, set to best quality.
Open the preview: quality is nearly the same as the original source.
Open the swf directly or the html --> output looks cloudy, diffuse.
Test with an without scalable html. In case of scalable html it is hard to find the right resolution (1024x768) on a 1280x1024 resolution monitor, but you can find it and the the output is clear as the preview.
The output format resolution within the project is set to 1024x768. We measured the "true" output resolution on different produced output formats, and they are all a little bit higher than 1024x768, about 4% more heigh and width.
Of course, I was able to change the html-script which sets the start-format for an swf to open, if I change it to 1024x768 and save it, the quality of the swf is like the preview and sharp and ok. But in case of scalable html I cannot set the format. However, why the swf -even when i start/opeen it directly- didn't start with the right resolution set in the settings within the project?
Also our target group should not "search" for the sharp resolution by scaling the output window.
Why does captivate change the resolution? why is the preview ok and the produced swf not? I didn't understand that fact.
Also we like to produce with TOC, so the widht for TOC is 250. If I change the html script in that case to 1024+250=1274x768 the swf is also unshapr/cloudy and I havee no change to fit it to the right resolution (1024+TOC).

  • Different colors in Photoshop and Lightroom

A fresh install of LR and PS CS2. I display an image in Lightroom (no adjustments at all) and open it in Photoshop (edit in ps CS2-->edit original). When I skip between LR and PS, I see different colors. The photos displayed in LR seem to be a little bit more saturated than in Photoshop.
What can I do match both photos. So far I am in a situation where I don't know how my photos are going to appear because both programs interpret them differently.

I am having the same problem as Michael... except I am calibrated (and no... I do NOT know the ins and outs of calibration... I do it b/c I am supposed to lol).
*MY* problem is similar to his.... it is ONLY when I have exported pics into PS (CS2 in my case) that I have a problem. LR-only edits are just fine. It is most notably apparent when I choose "export" photos once I am done with them... and once this is done it seems impossible (for me) to undo it!
Everything shifts reddish/magenta/orangey. I also seem to end up with hot spots/blown areas that were not there originally. It is NOT just a monitor issue, as these changes seem to become permanent. But I haven't noticed a desaturated appearance in CS2 (when moving from LR).
I shoot Raw+ Fine jpegs (I like having both for backup purposes) and do all my work on the Raws. I shoot with a Nikon D80, D300, Fuji S5... and have the same problem with all 3 cameras.
My normal workflow is to do a general color correction for all files in LR; choose my 5-10 faves to "showcase" and edit them in CS2 to make them shine more. I always choose "edit copy with LR adjustments" and export them as 8 bit tiffs. After doing my edits I choose Ctrl+S (so it pops back into LR) and then do a fast web copy (from CS2) for my blog. The web copies ALWAYS look great! Now that they are back in LR I don't always notice a problem (or should I say I didn't pay enough attention to them at that point to realize if there was/wasn't an issue) b/c by that time, I was "done" until the ordering process. All that was left was to make the web gallery (via LR).
I vividly remember when I first realized there was a problem... both were sessions where I'd ended up editing almost EVERY picture in CS2 for various reasons. Again, I can't remember if there was a problem once back in LR... but if so, it wasn't very noticeable...
But once I had done a final "export"- EVERYTHING was AWFUL!! And they stayed that way!!! In fact, the more I think about it the more certain I am that they were FINE when they first showed back into LR... b/c I remember seeing everything change and being heartbroken when I couldn't "revert" to the original looking CS2 edits. and they looked even WORSE in LR than online etc.
At first I thought I must have a preset upon export or something odd checked, but I've looked and have found no culprits. Perhaps it is a tiff issue? (I am doing my final exports as jpegs??) but I've seen others complain of the same thing...
all I know is that they look absolutely awful!!! Please give me some guidance!
Here is an example of one of the worst offending galleries of images:
    http://gypsyisle.com/denee&will
The CS2 edits were NOT blown out OR red (in fact, I keep that particular monitor a shade bright so that my clients, when viewing on THEIR non-calibrated monitors will not be upset with how light/bright/white everything is! So I don't see how I accidentally blew out so many of these pics and made them red/orange/mageta etc!)

  • Different colors in Raw and Ps5

My tiff picture is scanned in Adobe RGB, but looks different in Cam Raw and Photoshop5 even though I set the color profile to Adobe RGB in both programmes. When I make corrections in Raw, the colors doen´t match when I open it as an object in Photoshop. I´m really puzzled and hope someone out there can help me

Problems like this are often borne from ill-formatted or faulty color profiles associated with the monitor.  The monitor profile (which is a complicated beast under the covers) may not be interpreted correctly by all the different parts of Photoshop.
Try changing the monitor profile temporarily to sRGB and see if the display is now consistent.  You do this through the OS dialogs.
If this helps, you may want to seek out a better profile for your monitor, or possibly get a calibration/profiling device to create one yourself.

  • Need to display different colors for Actuals and forecasting values in WAD

    Hi Gurus,
My requirement in the report is, I need to display different colors for particular values like Actuals(say value type 10) and for forecasting values(say value type 20) , and data will uploaded from flat file.
Scenario : If I upload the data for March Month, I receive actual values upto March(Jan to March month) and from April to Dec(Forecast values with value type 20),  Every month I will be getting file and similarly for subsequent months, i will get current month actual values and forwarding months forecasting values,
Now , my requirement is, When ever i execute the Report, Say if i execute for April Month, Upto April( Jan to April for actual values should be displayed in one color) and from May to Dec ( forecast values should be displayed in different color).
I had tried with following options like exceptions and could not display , as it runs based on key figure values where as my requiremnet is based on the CALMONTH , i need to show different colors for both actual and forecast values.
Kindly, help me out from this,
    Thanks

    Hi,
it is not necesseary that you need to do that in WAD , you can do the same in BEx platform, Since WAD is build above the bex reports. so automatially any changes done in Report will be replicated in WAD
Go for Exceptions in Bex. Give some range for Actuals and Forcasting at the creation of the exception.
if you do those changes in BEX automatically it will replicate in the WAD.

  • Different color of Receive and send email in a thread

    Hi,
I have upgraded to Mac OS 10.10.
In Mail app, the background color of Receive and Sent email now is the same in a thread. Previously in 10.9, Sent email will have a dark color background.
Is there any way I can configure to have the same way in previous version? It's esier to distinguish Receive mail from Sent mail.
    Thanks

  • Preview and Colorsync

    Hi.
This is driving me crazy, how can I set the colorsync preferences in preview.app?
Apparently some other users can do it in the preview.app colors preferences but in this panel I only have "prefered CMM" and nothing else.
I want to change the default CMYK display profile for preview.
    How can I do this?
I tryed to erase the preview preferences files, I repaired permissions, I did every "known" maintenance thing.
If someone can help me it would be awesome.
    Thanks.

I'm not talking about the monitor profile. I'm
talking about the cmyk default profile used to
display cmyk images on screen (for color conversion)
    by preview.app.
The cmyk images or pdfs I'm opening with preview are
so badly displayed, with light gray blacks.
    Hi!
With MOSX 10.4 there is no system-wide default CMYK profile anymore.
(see http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn2035.html - quote: "Removal of Preferences Pane
As described in API Changes, we are deprecating the Preferences APIs for default profiles. As a result, we are removing the user interface for the Preferences pane in Colorsync Utility.")
(or see the discussion here at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3891542 )
Preview will always use the default CMYK profile.
(And I have never heard of regional differences in CMYK profiles; they are the same here in Europe and in the US, too.)
This leaves you with two possibilities:
    - change the default CMYK profile and save it back to where it belongs
    (it lives in /System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles )
    - use the ColorSync Utility to open your image files. There are buttons beneath the image window that let you change the profile used for displaying.
    Cheers,
    Walter

  • Is it possible to create a PDF with different colors for screen and printing?

I'm working on a document that features light colored text on a dark background. I'll be sending this document as a PDF to someone who will likely want to print it. Is it possible to set up the document such that it will display this way when viewed on screen, but will print as black text on a white background, without requiring any special action on the part of the recipient?
Printing a color separation of just the text color produces exactly the results I'm after, but I can't ask the recipient to do that. I need it to happen automatically any time it's printed.
I've tried setting up a duplicate text layer in black and placing it under the background layer, then setting the background layer and colored text to 'never print'. This works within Acrobat Pro, but not when I print the same document from Preview.
Is there an acrobat equivalent of a CSS print stylesheet?
    Thanks.

Create the document in layers with the background on a seperate layer than the text. Export the PDF with"Create Acrobat Layers" selected (it will need to be at least version 1.5).
Open the PDF in Acrobat, choose the background layer then Options>Properties>Initial State and under "print" choose "Never prints".

  • Different colors in Aperture and Photoshop - trying everything

I'm having problems with color in PS CS2 looking a bit flat after doing "edit with" from Aperture. I shoot raw and do most processing in Aperture 2.0, where I have on-screen proofing turned off right now. I "edit with" PS, which exports to a 16-bit .psd file that opens in PS; I understand I have no control over the embedded color profile, which is always Adobe RGB, I believe.
On the Photoshop side, I have selected "preserve embedded profiles" and turned on notification of mismatch, just in case. I have selected Adobe RGB 1998 as the RGB color setting in PS. I have Proof Colors turned off. I have also deselected "Desaturate Monitor Colors" in PS Advanced Color Settings.
In Aperture, the adjusted raw and the managed psd file, sitting side by side, look identical in color. If I compare those two images to the same psd image I just opened in Photoshop, the one in the PS window is less saturated. I have the Aperture and PS windows open on the same Cinema monitor, so it's not a monitor difference.
I'm no expert in color management, for sure...what else can I try? I’m going crazy!

I'm no expert in color management
An expert in colour management engineeri can fail in configuring any two ICC-enabled applications for compatible assumptions. Understanding the architecture is one thing and understanding the current conditions for configuration are another.
In such situations as this, the best bet is to ask the Apple ColorSync Users List.

  • Report margin is different in Live Previewer and AP

    Hi, expert:
I am using Report 6i and have encountered a problem of margin.
I created a report and in "Layout Model" I draged the borders to maximun the body part.
(Because I don't want my report has any margin).
It works fine when I use Live Previewer to see the result.
The result appears in the first line of window and there are no top and left margin.
However, after I launch my report to AP(financial module) and run it on the portal,
no matter I choose Excel or Browser to see the result, it always has top and left margin.
(Should be margin, right? Because it has empty space on the top and the left of the result)
I have no idea where to adjust it since in Report Builder there is no such empty space in Live Previewer.
Can anyone tell me where to adjust this? Thanks so much.

  • Buttons in Encore CS6 are disappearing/changing color in preview and on DVD

Running Encore CS6 on Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8
I have everything in Encore running smoothly, the only problem is I've laid out the buttons (created from text in Photoshop CS6) and when I go to preview the DVD menu the Buttons will go white, partially disappearing - a vague outline of some is available.
Below is the image as it should appear - this is how it was designed and how it shows up in the Encore viewer window
And Here is how the image is showing up when I try to preview or when it is burned to a DVD. Note that the Images that are not buttons have no problem and stay the same - it's only the ones made into buttons that are the issue.
After browsing other Adobe forums it was suggested to change the (=1) next to the button in photoshop to (=2) or (=3), I tried this and it did nothing.
I don't know how common this issue is, but hopefully I can get some help with this issue.
    Thanks.

Same here!  I found this very confusing link below which gives me files that won't open in the recommended  7-zip and gives errors in winzip. I can find some menus, but not the old ones such as the wedding menus that I used to have with CS5.5.
I'm not even sure what the 'premiereproCs6content' files are supposed to provide. Regardless the executables within it creates errors, when I try to run it.
Can somebody let me know where I can find those missing menus?, or give me a logical process to make this work? I'm on downloadable CS6 master collection. Thanks, Andy

  • Different color for positive and negative chart

    Hi-
I have a spreadsheet that displays data as a 3D chart - I would like to make the Positive and Negative values different colours (i.e below zero is RED - is that possible?
    Thanks!
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
You can assign the negative values to one series and the positive values to another. Here's an example:
Column C in the Chart Data table contains the expression:
    =IF(B<0, B, "")
Column D in the Chart Data table contains the expression:
    =IF(B<0, "", B)
To create this chart, click on Column Label A, then Command-Click on Column Labels C and D. This sets you up to create a 2-series chart. Then Insert a 3-D Area Chart.
The 2 series are offset in the Z-axis, so some angles of view won't look so good, but you can experiment and find a view angle that works for you.

  • No Color Management will activate ColorSync?

    Dear all,
I'm trying to print out the profiling target via Photoshop CS4. As usual, I made sure my target is Untagged; under print preview I choose "No Color Management"; Under Epson Printer Driver, I choose "No Color Adjustment" with the correct settings for that specific paper. After I print out the target and waited for 48 hrs, then I start to scan my sheets and creat a profile with it. But when I compare the custom made profile to the generic profile, it is almost half of the size smaller. I've tried with different types of paper, profiling software (ProfileMaker, i1Match, MonacoProfiler, Pulse) and printers including 2880, 4880 and 9880. They all came out the same way. I've been told that the ColorSync is activated by Photoshop even I've already selected "No Color Management" under Print Preview and ColorSync will automatically assign the default paper profile for that printer. Please can someone tells me is there any solution for this issue?
    My settings:
    Intel based MacPro
OSX 10.5.8 with the latest Update
    ColorSync (The latest version)
Photoshop CS4 with the latest Update
Epson Printer (2880, 4880, 9880) with the latest driver
    Thanks
    Aaron

My testing would seem to suggest that the problem arises just after CS4 sends the target to the driver. What I have found, and it was also stated on other forums, was that if I assign a profile of "generic RGB" and set the colorsync default space to "generic RGB" I get a target sent to the Epson driver that goes thru a NULL profile conversion and thus unchanged. Turning color management off in the driver then prints the target with output looking like I expected. All of this seems to me to suggest that colorsync (Apple) is the issue. This would also seem to be the thoughts of others on this forum.
So... My question to Adobe, who should have far more pull with Apple than I, is what is being done to resolve this issue and that when something is sent to the driver with "NO COLOR MANAGEMENT" it truly means ZERO color management in the workflow? I understand that this issue will never be experienced by casual users of the product but it is affecting most of the professional / higher end users.
    John
If you had really bothered to read all the forum threads here and elsewhere, you would be aware that old drivers or bad installs of drivers is the problem here that causes the double profiling with Apple new printing path.
My question to you is what do you expect Adobe or Apple to do about this when most all current SL drivers for current printers work correctly? Whose fault is it if the printer manufactures choose not to support new OSs for there old legacy printers?
You have a lots of choices or workarounds to print correct color.
Use old or other OSs, drivers, that support your old printer.
Use workarounds that some of us have come up with.
Print with applications that use the old print path.
Purchase new printers with drivers that support the new OS.
Complain to Epson if that is your printer of choice.
