Different colours on mac and online

Hi
I have problems with colours on macbook. The problem is that if I work in lightroom, photoshop and any image processing software on macbook the colours look really nice. However, if I upload the picture online the colours are washed off.
here is a screenshot with an example: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3556/3552934173aea5f072d1o.jpg
On the left there is a picture that I uploaded online on picasa and on the right there is a picture that I opened on mac. It drives me really crazy. my display colour settings are default LCD. When I export the picture from lightroom I use sRGB and 100% quality.
I tried to change the setting of my disply to sRGB but then everything is blue on my screen.
I tested it with several web browsers and the problem is the same. Also, I put the pics on usb drive and opened them on a linux machine and the colours were washed off as well.
Does anyone know what is the problem and how to solve it?
Monika

Actually, you CAN accurately calibrate a glossy screen with a proper metering system and technique, but that isn't the original poster's problem.
When you visualize an image under Photoshop and your screen is calibrated, your "Proof Setup" settings in Photoshop tell the program how you want the image to be modified for display on your display. Most likely, you have the proofing settings set such that Photoshop is expecting to display on a calibrated screen. Photoshop then, modifies the on-screen appearance of the image to appear as correctly as possible on your CALIBRATED screen. It doesn't put the raw RGB values of the image on screen. So, you adjust the image until it looks right, but that will only be true on another calibrated screen. This works well for professionals, because they calibrate their displays and when you move the image from one machine to another, their copy of Photoshop can use the calibration data in the image and their display to make the image look roughly the same from display to display.
When you are creating images for the web, the browser doesn't color adjust the image to match the image's embedded profile (and your JPEG for the web probably doesn't include the profile anyways). Also, the audience doesn't have the same display calibration as you do. Hence, the web user never sees the same color and luma values you so painstakingly balanced in Photoshop. Further, even on your own calibrated display, you won't see the same colors in your browser as in Photoshop's color tweaked display environment.
Solution: If your goal is merely to see colors in Photoshop during image tweaking the same as a browser on your OWN display, open a sample image in both Photoshop and your web browser. Then, try Photoshop Proof Setup as "Monitor RGB", "Macintosh RGB", then "Windows RGB" and find the setup that yields a rendering in Photoshop that best matches what you see in your browser. Use that setting to do all you image tweaks. That is about the best you'll be able to do.
You can't really compensate for all those uncalibrated displays out there, but at least you'll be authoring images that look reasonably good on most displays and pretty predictable in color on those displays that are calibrated similar characteristics as your own.
I author images with a display at d65 with a gamma of 2.4 to emulate CRT displays, but frequently you'll also see display calibrated to gamma 2.2. For cross platform work, I'd stay away from display gamma 1.8 or you risk creating washed out looking images for the majority of displays (PC's and video monitors)

    Hi Neil,
    There are several ways of applying a style rule to your menu.
    One way is to apply a rule to ul.MenuBarHorizontal a. This will affect all as you have already mentioned. Then to add a new rule as follows
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li ul li {
        background-color: green;
    which will override the first rule for your submenus.
    I hope this helps.

  • VPN -- different behavior between Mac and Windows XP clients.

    Hi,
    Background:
    I have a Mini server serving L2TP IPSEC vpn with both Mac and Windows (all XP, so far) clients.
    The mini sits behind a Netopia router/firewall/NAT box that port forwards L2TP traffic to the mini.
    The mini has a public but unrouted address (unrouted in the public Internet, that is.) The same Netopia serves as the router for outgoing public connections. DNS is served by other servers.
    The VPN clients are distributed addresses from the unrouted public address space.
    Client <-> NAT <-> Public Cloud <-> NAT <-> Private (with public addresses) <-> Mini (VPN)
    Mac clients work happily, accessing internal and external hosts.
    The XP clients have a registry value set to allow NAT traversal:
    under HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPSec, AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule is set to 2 to allow dual Nat traversal.
    The XP clients happily access internal hosts, but hang accessing some, but not all external hosts.
    For example, most Google services are quickly displayed, whereas www.comcast.net or www.llbean.net hang. It appears to be more frequent accessing third-party hosts while processing the initial page. Some Google web services, e.g. some Google Map plugins do eventually hang.
    An XP host internal to the network configured with the above registry key set to 0 (No NAT traversal)
    exhibits the same behavior when using a VPN connection
    Public Cloud <-> NAT <-> Private (with public addresses) <-> Mini (VPN) <-> Pvt. <-> Client
    Same host without VPN works fine.
    Clearing the XP checkbox that routes all traffic to the remote (VPN) router makes external hosts work
    as you would expect.
    So my questions are:
    a) What's XP doing?
    b) Can it be fixed? (besides routing public traffic away from the VPN.)
    Thanks Jonathan
    p.s. MrHoffman, I almost asked this in the HP Forum as well, till I noticed you were here. (Assuming you are Hoff.)

    Hi soccerdude21490-
    +Is this possible?+
    Theoretically yes. However, it would be up to the school to allow you access through their network.
    The first step would be to contact the school's IT department and ask them if they will allow such a connection, and if so, could they please provide you with the settings (ip address etc.).
    Luck-

  • Different Artwork on Mac and iPhone

    I'm a little confused about some of the artwork that appears on my iPhone as it differs from that shown on my iMac.
    When I select a track in "Music" in the "Devices>iPhone", it shows the correct artwork but having syc'd to my iPhone, the artwork is completely different.
    Any ideas why this is?

    If the Address Book on your Mac includes contact info and the same for your iPhone's address book, the first time you sync with a supported address book on your computer, a merge option should be provided. This should merge the data between the two, not provide duplicates.
    If you want the more current contact info that is available on your iPhone transferred to the Address Book on your Mac, the only way to do this is via the merge option which should be provided with the first sync. If you want to ensure than contact info will not be duplicated, and you want the contact info that is available on your iPhone transferred to the Address Book on your Mac, delete all contact info in the Address Book on your Mac except for one contact. This should provide the merge prompt when syncing contact info, which you want to select. If the remaining contact in the Address Book on your Mac is duplicated on your iPhone and with the Address Book on your Mac after the initial sync, you can delete only one duplicate instead of many, if all contact is duplicated when selecting the merge prompt, which I don't believe is what happens with a merge. After the initial sync for contact info, the contact info between the two will be synchronized.
    The same applies to calendar events on your iPhone with the first sync with iCal on your Mac.
    A merge should merge the data, not create duplicates, but I haven't tried the same after restoring the Address Book on my Mac from a backup with a new hard drive.

  • Colour Profiles - Mac and Cannon  MP980

    I am really struggling to get colour management to work managed through PSE.  First how to turn off colour management on my MP980 - I have researched several forums on this and haven't found a real answer. My driver doesn't seem to offer the "none" option. Then I can't get PSE to show my ICC profiles for my printer.  They are there and funcitonal via ColorSync. Can anyone help?  Follow on question - Can I use ColorSync to accomplish the same thing as managing colours through PSE? Any help greatly appreciated.

    This ia a complex issue.
    PSE can manage color profiles through the file or printer. It cannot manage the impossible.
    SRGB is the universal color space.
    If you can’t accept it then you need to manage your color profiles for printer and paper type.

  • Same Calendars, different order on Mac and iPhone

    I've been having the sync problem that many others have been having: i.e., when I sync to one of my two MacBook Pros, the computer overwrites the iPhone. This doesn't happen with the other MacBook. But my more specific question is: I noticed that my iPhone has the same Calendar names as both of my MacBooks, but not in the same order. Does this say that something is wrong, too?

  • Safari displays different design on localhost and online

    Hello.
    I am working on a Web page with Safari 7 and MAMP Pro.
    When I look at it on my localhost, it works fine, but when I set it online, the design is not exactly the same.
    Here is the online adress for this page : http://infomaitrise.com/cpg/confederation_patronale_gabonaise.php
    The calendar on the right is supposed to stand on the right of the "welcome box". That's what happen on my localhost. But online, it stands under the "welcome box".
    Exactly the same code, but not the same result, how is it only possible ?
    Thanks in advance for your help

    Ok, I solved my problème myself by deleting the "float: right;" css property from the calendar.
    But I still do not understand why it was working fine on my localhost and not online...

  • HTTPService - different behavior on mac and windows...

    My AIR application talks to a backend that does not have a server based proxy service. Doing a plain vanailla https POST...and finding out that my code works great on a mac but fails to get a response back to the result handler on a windows box...
    private function setupHTTPService():void {
                httpserv = new HTTPService();
                httpserv.url = "https://a.b.c.d:8081/sqlquery";     // IP addr goes here..
                httpserv.method = "POST";
                httpserv.resultFormat = "text";
                httpserv.contentType = "text/plain";
    In another method ---
        httpserv.request = qm.messageString();
                      httpserv.addEventListener("result", plistener = function (e:ResultEvent): void { gotdata( e,qm,gotconfig ) } );
                      httpserv.addEventListener("fault", flistener = function (e: Event): void { gotfailed( e,qm, gotconfig ) } );
                      httpserv.send();
    Handlers ---
            public function gotdata(e:ResultEvent, qm:QueryMsg, passthru:Function):void {
                httpserv.removeEventListener("result",plistener);
                httpserv.removeEventListener("fault",flistener);
                handleData(e.result as String,qm)// handle receiving categories

                httpserv.removeEventListener("result",plistener);
                httpserv.removeEventListener("fault",flistener);
    Setup the breakpoints on gotdata and gotfailed - don't even get a failure back when running the AIR app from a windows client. Tried with 3.3 and 3.4 SDK. Any thoughts?

    Weird. We are having this same problem as well. Ours happens in Chrome as well. What I have figured out is -at least for us - is its somethign to do with the Google Analytics tracking cookie on our site. If I go to cookies and then delete the _umtz cookie, the site will load fine. In the time being I have set "pageTracker._setCampaignTrack(false); " in our tracking code to keep the script from dropping the cookie in users browsers.

  • Different colours in jpg and png

    I need to export a logo in 300 dpi to jpg. When I do that, the colours aren't correct.
    When I export to png, the colours areas they should be, but they really want it in jpg...
    Can anyone help me with this one?
    Thank you!

    Is your Illy file RGB or CMYK?
    The problem might lie in the conversion from CMYK to RGB. Jpg is basically an RGB format - at least if you make a CMYK jpg, people working on Windows won't be able to open it. I think the same thing goes for png but I'm not sure. Can you give more details?

  • IPod 5G: Disk use on both Macs and PCs.

    Greetings,
    I have an iMac and iPod. I have selected option "Enable Disk Use" in iTunes.
    When using iPod as a external disk on my iMac,all works ok.
    Problem is when I plug my iPod into a PC. The PC shows an error message: "The disk in drive F is not formated. Do you want to format it now?". Is this how is supposed to be? How can I use iPod as an external disk when PC doesn't recognize it? Can someone explain this? I know that there are different formating for Macs and PCs, but since I am connecting via USB, it should not be a problem. I am connecting my memory card reader/writer (via USB) to both PCs and Mac and it works. The same is with my digital camera, works on both platforms. And what is even more strange, when I restore iPod on PC and sync in iTunes on PC, with enabling disk use, I can use it on both platforms.
    Thank you in advance for replies,
    JK

    It is because your iPod is formatted in Mac format which Window machines can not read (regardless if you are using USB or not; it does matter).
    If you reformatted the iPod for Windows, then you can use it on both systems since Macs can read Windows formatted iPod just fine.

  • Address book on my mac and Cloud question

    Noticed the contacts were different on my mac and iCloud and not sure why. In iTunes have backing up to iCloud but not sure that is correct or matters. Contacts on the iPhone are seldom correct and want to get this fixed. recently deleted quite a few from the address book and tried to restore on Time Machine but not allowed. Does anyone know the file for Adress book that I can restore?
    additionally, how should the address book be set so the same items are on the IMac , iPhone4 and iPad2?
    Obviously I don't understand and would appreciate some assistance - driving me crazy.
    Thanks!

    This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Address Book.
    First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
    Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
    If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • IMovie, Final Cut, Quicktime, online... a different colour in each!

    The same video - Photo Jpeg format from a Panasonic LX3 digital camera - looks different in Final Cut, QuickTime and iMovie.
    The "gamma shift" problems with FCP are well documented and I don't think I can be bothered to put anymore effort into finding a solution.
    My editing projects are simple so maybe iMovie, I thought, would be enough...
    But then I open the same video in QuickTime and iMovie and see that in the latter it is considerably darker and more contrasty.
    Obviously, if I don't know which version is correct, I can't even begin to adjust the colours and contrast of the video.
    Does anyone know where this difference might come from and exactly how I should set my system up so I can get on with editing rather than spending days trying to find information on the internet?
    I'm using a calibrated Apple Cinema Display (2.2 gamma, 6500°k) and want to export edited video that can be viewed online via blip.tv.
    Someone must have a solution... But I'm getting close to giving up on all this and using Avid or Adobe Premiere.
    And one other problem in iMovie: if I try to adjust the exposure of my LX3 video it becomes rapidly desaturated, even black and white.

    Yes Kirk, I did see your post, thankyou.
    I haven't tried it yet but I will although I'm still unclear as to what it is supposed to achieve: is it to match my monitor's gamma to FCP output? (I assume this is the case). If so, how does this solve the problem of needing to export a file that will display correctly on other people's machines - Mac and PC -that are either calibrated to, or default to, 2.2 gamma and 6500°K? Sorry if my question is basic but I'm trying to understand this.
    I've read the Apple information about FCP using 1.8 gamma and that being the gamma of a broadcast monitor. My problem is that my stuff will never see a broadcast monitor, being entirely destined for the web and I was hoping to be able to set up some sort of simple workflow that took that into account.

  • Colour inconsistency between mac and pc

    Hi
    Both my colleague and I use cs4 to create websites. He designs on a mac and I use windows xp. We are having difficulties getting our hex colours right.
    He normally creates a psd and then I get to use it to develop the website.
    He creates a green square and then uses the pipette tool to get the hex. He exports the green sqaure as 100% and puts it into a simple web page which has a green back set to the hex above.
    On his mac you can't see where the square is - ie its the same colour as his background.
    On my pc you can see the sqauire???
    I know macs/pcs display colours differently.
    What do we need to alter so that both pc and mac can't see the sqaure?
    Thanks in advance
    Edward

    If you DO go with a PC you might be better off with a desktop than a laptop for Photoshop use.  A.  Photoshop uses a system more aggressively than most applications, and B.  Laptops don't get as good display driver support because usually drivers have to come through the laptop maker vs. directly from the display adapter company.
    With Mac systems your drivers come through Apple anyway, so the B section above doesn't apply.
    In my humble opinion Apple generally makes better laptops (hardware/reliability wise) than any of the PC companies.  I hope I don't insult anyone who loves their PC laptop with this statement; it's just opinion.  Apple's prices are generally higher for similar performance to pay for that fact.
