Different Decibel Level QT AIFF Files Played Tiger Vs. Leopard

Hi Gang
I still haven't found out why I get different decibel levels when created/played in a Tiger 10.4.11 environnment then played in a Leopard environnment. The levels are always about 1/2 the level when played in Leopard. These files could be AIFF exports within FC5, or could be any AIFF exported audio files created from Garage Band in Tiger then played in a Leopard environnment. Always 1/2 the volume level.
The QT Players are version 7.6.0
The AIFF files, are usually created at 41hz or 44hz at about 128-256 Bit Rate.
Thanx
Mike

I believe I found a partial answer to this

  • Aif,aiff files/ play sequentiallly after imported tracks

hi. i-m try getting some help.
    1st question>
Is there a way to play sequentially tracks in Adobe audtion after importing those one?
or must i play them one by one and not like an automated task?
    2nd question>
After recording some new tracks i save them as *.aiff extension files, but Windows Media player is not able to play them.
All tracks have been recorded at cbr 3072 Kbytes/s, stereo, 48khz sample rate.
i use Xp sp3 fully updated, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 consumer preview as Operating Systems.
Tvm in advanced if i will have an answer.Enrico /Italy

It is always best, and more universally usable, to save your audio files as .wav. This is Auditions default format.
If you import them into the Multitrack view then you can place them sequentially and play them one after another automatically.

  • Exported AIFF file plays too quickly.

    Hi
Im new to soundtrack pro but followed export settings in apple pro training series but when the track is played back, either in FCP timeline or finder it is speeded up. Where am I going wrong?
    Thanks
    Adrian

On this same subject, I neglected to change sampling rates correctly when going from 48k DAT tape to computer for iTunes. The music is now at 44.1 which I want, but the speeds are too fast.
I found that if I modify the sampling rate to 40,200 and let the pitch and time change with it, I can match the original and resave. (I subtracted the same amout from 44.1 as that is from 48).
Is there a better, easier way that makes more sense? I have the ability to just change the pitch and remain at 44.1 but I don't know by how much.

  • Why won't iTunes allow my iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 to play 176.4/24 AIFF files created in December of 2014 and January of 2015, but will allow my iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 to play 176.4/24 AIFF files created before December of 2014?

When I buy and download high resolution music files (FLAC and DSD), I convert them to AIFF files and add them to my iTunes music library.  Specifically, I have been converting DSD64 files to 176.4/24 AIFF files.  These AIFF files (modified in some respects by iTunes) have been synched to my old iPhone 5 and new iPhone 6.  Until December, every 176.4/24 AIFF file played as expected.  In December, I purchased two DSD64 albums, which I converted to 176.4/24 AIFF files using AudirvanaPlus 1.5.  These 176.4/24 AIFF files will not play on either iPhone.  When I converted those DSD64 albums to 88.2/24 AIFF files, they played on both iPhones.  In December, I also purchased several 192/24 FLAC albums and converted them to 192/24 AIFF files using Amarra HiFi.  These 192/24 AIFF files play properly on both iPhones.
Why won't iTunes allow my iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 to play 176.4/24 AIFF files created in December of 2014 and January of 2015, but will allow my iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 to play 176.4/24 AIFF files created before December of 2014?

I have a similar problem and have spent three sequential days at the Apple Genius Bar before we were able to exclude most other possibilities and found that certain files (in my case all mp3s from CDs I own) that play just fine in iTunes 11.0.1 and that used to play in iOS 6.0.1 do not play in iOS 6.1. We restored the phone to factory settings and synced only a few of the music files that were problematic. They still did not play. We reproduced the problem on my iPad mini (iOS6.1).
Apple Telephone Support suggestion was to convert all mp3 files in iTunes to AAC (which according to Apple Website may degrade sound quality). No further suggestions or escalation but a recommendation to place comments on www.apple.com/feedback and, if there are enough complaints, someone at Apple might take an interest in this problem. Something has changed in iOS 6.1 where files that played on prior mobile system software no longer work.
Apple, please pay attention to this glitch with iOS 6.1.

  • .aiff files won't play in finder (and some programs)

    Mac Pro 4.1
Doing some long-overdue file cleanup, and when I preview some .aiff files in the finder they won't play.  The Apple  .aiff sound effect files play, but things I've recorded won't play, although they will play if imported into iTunes.  Other audio formats are playing fine in Finder.
Also, a recording program I sometimes use called Tracktion will play files in other formats, but my .aiff files are silent or pure harsh static.
Is there a global setting that might be corrupted somewhere?  Could this be the fault of my recent Mavericks installation?
    Thanks!

I came across the same problem in Mavericks, some wav files played, others didn't. I found that adding '.wav' to the end of files that didn't audition in Finder cured the problem.
As I have many thousands of sound fx files in different formats, changing them individually was not possible.
There are batch conversion apps which will add the .wav (or other format endings) when batch converting - this is what I have been doing. Export them with no change to format but the filename is now correct to audition.
Mavericks broke the two things I liked most - auditioning sounds, movies, pictures etc from Finder, and the file/folder highlight colours. Just a stupid coloured dot now.

  • ITunes skips/pauses when playing back .wav or .aiff files

    Hello all,
Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 6.01, every .wav or .aiff file I play results in skipping playback. Sometimes the sound will pause, other times it will skip half a second or more. It sounds like a scratched CD without the screeching.
The iTunes visualiser goes 'flat' during these periods of silence, implying that it thinks the silences are breaks in the music. Rewinding the skipped portion usually results in it playing back satisfactorily, although it will continue to skip throughout the remainder of the track, as it would have done without my intervention.
They still skip when opening the files in QuickTime Player, although not as much - perhaps once a tune rather than the five-almost constant in iTunes. Also, they worked perfectly in both programs before I upgraded to 6.01.
Anyone else having this problem, or is it just me?
I've sent feedback to Apple, but other than that, I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your time,

I updated the AE firmware and made sure my airport and AE software were current, but the problem is still there. One thing that makes it hard to track is that the amount of skipping varies during the day, so sometimes it will play an album without skipping, and others it will skip a few times per track (i.e. unlistenable). Still fiddling with channels to see if that helps...
There is one peculiar thing that happens only with playback involving AirportExpress, even if there are no skips in the track:
When iTunes approaches within (approx) 10-15 seconds of the end of a song, it will jump the time-display forward to the beginning of the next song: then the display will wait at the 0-second mark of the new song till the current song almost finishes (it will clip a couple of seconds off the end): then iTunes will start playing the next new song.

  • HT203164 Why would iTunes burn a CD with AIFF files that don't play music?

I have been trying to burn a particular song to a CD to prepare for a performance. I own the song as a purchased song in iTunes, as part of an album. I wanted to brun one for the piano player and one for me to practice to.
I had one fail and was successful the second time. Then I have had several successive failures. I have tried varying the burn preferences a bit.
I am near the end of a large package of CompUSA brand CD-R media.
The weird thing is, the discs that are "failures" have AIFF files on them and when you GET INFO on them they read normal file sizes. But, when you try to play them in iTunes they take about one second to play with no sound. In a CD player you just get an error code.
I have tried burning at the "maximum possible" speed, which is the default, and at 8X and I have tried unchecking the "CD Text" option. I have also changed the seconds bewtween songs option. No difference.
Over the last two years, going through this large package of CD-R's, I am used to getting occasional failures. I just would toss the disc and then the next one would be good. But those would have nothing on them. Do you think this is bad media, a bad optical drive, or something else?
BTW, the computer is a 2008 15" MacBook Pro, running 10.7.5, and iTunes 10.7(21).
    Thanks!

Strictly speaking an audio CD is not  AIFF files, it's a 30 year old standard called Red Book.
I would say bad media is likely.  Normally I'm all for generics, except in optical media you really risk coasters.  I have Dynex brand DVDs and I think at least 25% show a burn failure.  Likely your CompUSA may have come from the same factory.
Bad media could be coupled with burner issues.  Maybe dust in the burner, or too fast a burn speed.

  • IPod Nano 3rd Gen won't play AIFF files from Logic Pro 9

Hi, so I've bounced a few tracks I was working on in Logic pro 9 as AIFF files, imported them into iTunes and then synced them down to both an iPod Touch 2nd gen and this iPod Nano 3rd Gen. The tracks play fine on the iPod Touch, but on the Nano, when I try to play a track, it shoes the "player" screen for a second, but it always bounces back to the track listing.
According to the iPod Nano 3rd gen spec sheet, it does support AIFF files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP14
Any idea as to why this is happening?
Also, I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.4, iTunes 9.2 and I reset the iPod nano just before starting this whole project.
I'd like to keep the tracks in AIFF if possible...

    Greetings WonderfulT1,
If you are having an issue with being unable to start your iPod nano when it is not connected to the computer, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps on this page -

  • AIFF files don't play on iPod

Why do the AIFF files that play successfully on iTunes not play at all on my iPod? My software is up to date.I'm on an iMac and use a year-old 30GB iPod.
Details: The files in question are Centerpointe Holosync meditation "tapes" that depend on subtle differences in frequencies. I was told by a fellow user that I was losing the subtleties when I transfered the CDs to iTunes in the normal way and that I should use AIFF formatting. So I followed the instructions and, I thought, successfully copied the CDs onto iTunes; the "get info" screen tells me that indeed they're in AIFF. As I said, the tracks play just fine on iTunes, but I must listen to them using headphones, and the iPod gives me nothing but silence.
I'm sorry if this issue has been addressed before. I've spent the last half hour searching and just gave up and decided to post this as a new question.
Novice here; please be kind. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

    Problem solved, if not understood.
I converted the AIFF files to WAV, and now they play.
I'd appreciate it if someone would explain why this was the case, but the problem is not a real problem any more.

  • I am having trouble bouncing and creating an aiff file that plays back. I've checked my output settings, and although I am able to create MP3s, the aiffs are blank. The happens when I try to export a track as an aiff file - it's blank.

I am having trouble bouncing and creating an aiff file that plays back. I've checked my output settings which appear to be correct. Although I am able to create MP3s, the aiffs are blank. The happens when I try to export a track as an aiff file - it's blank.

When bouncing, do you use the Key Command or the button on the Output Channel Strip? The Key Command only bounces from the Stereo Output. The bounce button bounces from the Channel Strip it is on. So if you want to bounce out outputs 3-4 or higher, don't use the key command, but the button.
The strange thing here is that Logic, when it bounces an MP3, first bounces an AIFF, which at the end of the bounce process is being converted to MP3, so I can't imagine how you can get a silent AIFF and a normal MP3.
How have you listened to those bounces? iTunes? Quicklook? Quicktime?

  • Cannot play AIFF files properly

For various reasons I need to have some music on my iPod classic stored and played as AIFF files (or WAV...just full sized files anyway). So far, I've been unable to get this to work properly. Certain songs don't play at all, one jams, and the iPod has crashed while playing another (its never done this using MP3s like normal, after 2 years of regular use).
A friend of mine has tried the same thing with an iPod classic, with the same results. Has anyone else tried this and experienced the same problem?

I have successfully copied audio CD's in the past. I have the preferences set for audio CD. Is there another place to set the file type? Does it matter what type of blank CD is used? This one is a RW. Ones I have done In the past were just recordable.
