Different EAR file size for 2 exactly the same set of source codes

Hi All,
I have 2 exactly the same sets of source codes for my application that were compiled in 2 different environment (say SIT and UAT; both using the same jdk versions), is it possible that the EAR files after build will be different in size too?
Can you suggest any online reading materials that I can read regarding this?
Thank you very much
Eddie

Hi Arun,
Thanks for the answer.
I already did a comparison of the 2 application, they are exactly the same (i only copied the source including the jars from PROD to UAT). I also did a comparison between the 2 EAR files generated (exploded the EAR file and compare each of the files), they are the same. My aim actually is to compile the application in Machine1 and deploy it in Machine2, I am just puzzled why the 2 EAR files generated by the 2 machines are different in size. Does it has something to do with the compression and compiling?
Thanks,
Eddie

  • Illustrator files size and instances of the same embedded image

My question is, isn’t Illustrator supposed to use and save just one instance of an embedded image regardless of how many times it i used in an document?
A senario: If I import and embed an image and I save the document I get a pretty small files size. But when I copy this image internally in the document, say that I copy the image 10 times, I get ten times the file size. Is it supposed to do that? Why doesn't it just save the image one time?

Just did a test where I placed 5 images in Illustrator, one file with these images embedded, one with these images as Symbols, and one with these images as links. The winner for the smallest illustrator file is the file with images linked. But this is because you must supply the link with the Illustrator file if you want to actually use it for anything which would fall into the category of having one image used several times in Illustrator and not making the file have the weight of all 5 images.
A better understanding of these usages in Illustrator can be attained with this link.

  • How to set different pointsize  (Font Size) for different text range in the single textframe.

I have a one textframe in which i want to  set three different pointsize(font size) for three different text ranges. I have set different tag name for different text ranges . So How can I set different pointsize in the single texmframe.
Please reply me if anyone is aware of it.
    Thanks,

    Jack,
Extending Martti's post, you can create an XSLT that will add an element around the ASD2.1 part when you import the XML file into FrameMaker. Then FrameMaker's EDD can format this added element with a font different from the one used in the content element.

  • Is it possible to have same file size for different dpi?

I changed one.TIFF file (300dpi, 1024X1332)  to .jpg files of four different dpi. But when I checked the four result jpg files, I found out that they are all in same file size and quality.( I also have checked the property of the files in the Windows.)
I think more DPI means more data and more file size. Am I wrong?
I use Photoshop CS 5.1(64bit, WINDOWS) - which is part of my Adobe Master Collection CS5.5.
    TIFF(300dpi, 1024X1332) ->
    1. JPG(72dpi, 1024X1332) : 306KB
    2. JPG(108dpi, 1024X1332) : 306KB
    3. JPG(144dpi, 1024X1332) : 306KB
    4. JPG(600dpi, 1024X1332) : 306KB
I tested a few times more with different files. and same result comes out.(same file size for different dpi)
    Thanks in advance.

Yes absolutely. Great observation.  PPI does not control the number of pixels, just how big they are.
Now, if you change the PPI in the Image Size dialog with Resample checked.. then, that is a different story. In that case you will be changing the pixel dimension of an image (i.e.,changing the total number of pixels making up the image) while keeping its print size.
In your test files, you will notice all the print sizes are different, because all you were telling Photoshop to do was change the size of the pixels (if or when the image is ever printed), which is really just a bit of metadata of the file.

  • 2 files with exact the same PMS color look different

I was working on a print project for my company and all files are created in Illustrator CC. Here is the confusing part, in this logo color file I found from the company inside files, the PMS color code actually matches the CMYK color code, and they look exactly the same on screen:
But on all the files I'm working on, the PMS color looks washed, when using the convert button to convert PMS to CMYK, the code looks different too:
Is there a file color setting I need to change? Besides illustrator, the PMS color in Photoshop cc and InDesign cc all look wash out.

The Color Mode of the swatch only impacts how the the color appears on your monitor. The important thing is that the Color Type always be "Spot Color" regardless of the Color Mode when you're dealing with files for print. If it's set to Spot Color, then exporting the file to film will have a single color pass. If it's set to Process Color you'll get 1-4 color passes when exporting depending on your CMYK values.
For the company's branding guide, you have both color options depending on how the logo will be printed. If you had something that included a photo, then you would want to use the CMYK version of the logo because you're already going to have CMYK values from the photo. Using an additional spot color just for the logo then makes it a 5-color job, thus increasing the cost. If you were printing something that only used black for text and also included the logo, then you would use the PMS version as this makes it a 2-color print job.
In some circumstances you don't have an option of a CMYK break of a PMS color, such as metallics and fluorescents. Some companies only print their logo in a spot color despite having it as part of a 4-color print just due to how a CMYK version of their logo appears. Not every PMS color has a 100% accurate CMYK break. Most frequently the CMYK version is dull compared to the PMS color simply because the gamut for CMYK is not as diverse as the full range of PMS colors are.

  • Where can I find the file sizes for each application before downloading?

Where can I find the file sizes for each application before downloading? I have limited download (525 MBs/day) because of Hughsnet and I need to know each applications total size before I download.

You can go to the trial page to get an estimated size.  As the Creative Cloud products change over time though this may become less accurate.
If you are on a limited bandwidth account then you may want to consider purchasing a perpetual copy of Creative Suite 6 as opposed to subscribing to the Creative Cloud.

  • I need to save some pictures from iPhoto to a SDHC photo card for a digital frame and was wondering if there is a way to shrink or compress file size for each picture as I have already cropped the pictures? Thank you

I need to save some pictures from iPhoto to a SDHC photo card for a digital frame and was wondering if there is a way to shrink or compress file size for each picture as I have already cropped the pictures? Thank you

Yes, you do this when you export the images from the Library.
    File -> Export
in the Size section, you don't need images larger than the frame size, so you can specify that and in the Jpeg Quality you can select the amount of compression used.

  • Photoshop keeps altering the canvas size for very exact measurements

I need exact measurements for the canvas size which has to be 704.55 mm in width. I noticed that when i create a new document and insert this size for the document width it changes to 704.51mm if I check out the canvas size under Image > Canvas size. Any explanation as to why it alters the canvas size for very exact dimensions?
    Thank you

An image cannot consist of fractions of a pixel. Imagine you have an image that has a resolution of 3 ppi. That's 3 pixels within an inch of image. Now say you want a canvas size of 0.5 inches. That would mean an image consisting of 1.5 pixels, which is impossible. The image must be rounded to the nearest size that accomodates a whole pixel. You can either just decide that that's good enough (usually it is), or use a resolution so that your canvas size has more pixels that can be divided up into your desired size, then maybe you may be able to fit your resolution exactly into your canvas size.

  • Maximum file size for Pages

What is the maximum file size recommended by Apple for Pages documents.
Yes this question was asked in 2009.  However it was not answered.
It is not feasible to break a document into different files when the purpose is to submit a book for publication on CreateSpace, One PDF file must be submitted.
So, does anyone know the recommendation from Apple, because I cannot find it.  Or, has anyone successfully worked with 400 MB files or larger (image intensive)?

You haven't said what version of Pages.
The question in 2009 would have been for Pages '09. It has problems with very large sizes. Where exactly the problems start probably has not so much to do with file size in Mbs as in layout complexity.
Going on experience here, I wouldn't cut Pages 5 that much slack, particularly as anything in a Pages 5 document is only good so long as you can still open it in Pages 5.2.

  • Same source, different jar file sizes

What could be creating this discrepancy in jar file sizes on two machines with exactly the same versions of SDK etc installed.
    Machine 1 - obfuscated jar size 148Kb
Source moved to Machine 2 - obfuscated jar size 222Kb
Source moved back to Machine 1, mods made, - obfuscated jar size 143Kb
Source copied to Machine 2, NO mods, - obfuscated jar size 138Kb
I want to retire Machine 1, and in fact Machine 2 is due to be re-purposed as well when my new shiny one arrives but I am worried I won't be able to get my file sizes as small as possible or at least cram as much as possible in so I would like to know what sort of things impact the packaging process.
    Thanks
    Kathydb

When you sync photos with iTunes it automatically optimizes the photo size for the screen on the device it is syncing it to. Photo Stream also has some of this functionality built into it as well although a full resolution photo will be sent to iPhoto on Mac computers. Photos taken with different devices will also have different file sizes depending on how many megapixels the camera on the device has.

  • Same container, different ear files, remote lookup failing!

I'm having severe problems with my ears! I used to have all my EJBs in one ear file and everything worked hunky dory. Now I have separated out various components into their own ear files as they may be deployed into a separate box and also this eases group development. My problem is that some (most) of the remote lookups don't work. I'm getting a Class cast exception when i use the narrow() method.
I have tried all the methods I can think of now and I'm getting desperate! Initially when all the beans were in the same ear file I used the coded reference for the lookup. This did not work across separate ear files so I replaces the coded reference in the lookup() method to the JNDI name. Now this works for some lookups but not others. Invariably a client application running in the container in a separate ear will work no problem. However a session bean using the same code as the client can not succeed in referencing another bean.
I'm baffled here because the lookup itself appears to succeed (if I but a garbage name in the lookup method it returns "name not found"). The error I'm getting is class cast exception! Occasionally though it does work - by that I mean it works for some inter-ear references but not others ie it's not intermittant.
Can anyone shed some light on the correct/best method to lookup a remote reference to a EJB from an EJB living in a different ear file in the same container?

    Found the problem!
I was using jdk 1.3.0_02 when I should have been using

  • Maximum file size for export into MP4?

    Hello,
I am not able to export 2 hour HD video into standard MP4 file. It seems that reaching 100% export algorithm gets into loop. I was waiting for hours and still had seen progress at exactly 100% with final file size on hard disk to be 0 bytes. I am using CS5 on MAC OS X. I had to split my timeline to 2 parts and to export them separately (which is embarrasing). Is there something like maximum file size for export? I guess that 2h video would have about 25-35GB.
    Thank you
    jiri

    You are right.
So I am running AP Pro 5.0.4, Adobe Media Encoder 5.0.1.0 (64bit). Operating system Mac OS X ver 10.7.3. All applications are up to date.
    MacBook Pro Intel i5 2.53GB, 8GB RAM, nVidia GT 330M 256 MB, 500GB HDD
Video is 1920x1080 (AVCHD) 25fps in a .MTS container  (major part of timeline), 1280x720 30fps in .MOV container (2mins), Still images 4000x3000 in .JPG
No error message is generated during export - everything finishes without any problem...just file created has 0 byte size (as described above).
This is my largest video project (1h 54min) I dont have any other problem with other projects.
I dont run any other special software, at the moment of export all usual applications are closed so that MacBook "power" can go to Media Encoder. No codecs installed, using VLC Player or Quick Time.
Attached please find printscreen from Export settings (AP Pro). Writing this ppost I tried to export only the first 4mins from timeline where all kind of media is used...and it was OK.
As a next step I will try to export (same settings) 1h 30mins as I still believe problem comes with length of video exported.
