hello!
Can you hepl me please! I have made two projects and I open a new project
for both sequences (of each project) and it says to me that I cannot
unite them. (sorry my misspelling, I'm spanish)
I open a new project, there I copy the sequence of one
of both projects, and when I trying to copy the sequence of the other
project appears this window saying:
"Operation not allowed. You cannot nest sequences with different editing
timebases "
Please, anyone knows how to unite two projects of final
cut express in one single one? entirely been thankful!

the properties of the two sequences are:
1 sequence: P.vema--> Vid rate: 25 fps
Frame size: 960 x 40
Audio rate: 48 kHz
compresor: apple intermediate codec
pixel aspect: Square
2 sequence: Introduct.progm-->Vid rate: 25 fps
Frame size: 720 x 576
Audio rate: 48 kHz
compresor: DV PAL
pixel aspect:PAL-CCIR 601
P.D--> I have to use DV PAL of: 720 x 576
mmm... It's true the two sequences only are similar in the 25 fps.. I want to enclose the two
sequences in one new project (one of the two sequences is the introduction, and the other the program)

Hello final cut wiz group!
I just finished a soundtrack in Logic Pro 7 and am trying to import the XML into Final Cut 5 with my G5 (OS 10.4.1). I'm getting a message that says "30 fps, NTSC rate does not match sequence preset time base 25 fps. The timebase defined in the the XML will be used. Unable to edit clip into sequence."
I can get the sound to play after rendering, but when I try to bring the clip into the sequence, I get an error that says cannot nest items with conflicting timebases?
Anybody have an idea how I can get myself out of this problem?

I'm not too familiar with using the XML functions but 25fps I believe is PAL and 30fps would be NTSC. That is a problem. When you export from Logic you may be able to change a frame rate setting in the export dialog. Or you could just bounce the file into a compatable format such as AIF or wave/PCM and then import that. Good luck.

Changing Editing Timebase AFTER project is edited?

I just noticed that my editing timebase is 29.27 and I shot with a Panasonic HVX 200 at 720p60. I've been using the preset codec for the DVC Pro HD 720p60. Is it possible to change my sequence to 59.94fps in the editing timebase AFTER my project has been edited? I tried doing this and it completed messed up the audio visual sync and speed.
Also, what is the best codec for the Panasonic HVX200HD and is it possible to change this after editing as well?

OK, I have more info from the lead editor now. In a previous, very similar project, when the online house was given the 29.97 sequence with the same mix of 29.97 and 23.98 footage, they had no way to fix the repeated frame problem of the 23.98 footage. It goes frame 1-2-3-4-4-5-6-7-8-8, etc.
They are saying that if it had been edited into a 59.94 sequence, it makes a smoother conversion, because of the 3:2 pulldown. Instead of repeating every fourth frame, it repeats one field every 1 1/2 frames (or something close to that).
So our choices seem to be either a) use a 59.94 sequence, and reconstruct our first two days of work, or b) run hours and hours of footage through Compressor with some very specific settings to convert the 23.98 footage to 29.97. By the way, I tried two different tests of this, and failed miserably to get any improvement. Although it was now 29.97, it was still repeating every fourth frame. I was obviously wrong with one of the settings.
It still confounds me that copying and pasting clips from a 29.97 sequence into a 59.94 sequence would result in completely different parts of the clips showing up - even the AE's temp VO track.
My personal wish is that filmmakers would dispense with this MYTH that 24fps gives a video that's to be finished in 30fps a "cinematic look." It's completely bogus, and just creates problems.

How to use different edit form of XMLForms

I've noticed that to display a "Show" form of a XMLForms project the iView "com.sap.km.cm.xmlformpreview" is used. For "Edit" form respectively "com.sap.km.cm.xmlformedit" is used.
How can I make an iView that shows a different custom form, for example "Edit2", which was implemented in XMLForms Builder?

Hi,
You cannot have more than one edit form. We have a similar problem and we did the following:
- Create one project (with its corresponding Edit form) and a ListShow.
- Create another project based on previous one with a different Edit form. If this project has the same root element in his xml schema it can be processed in previous ListShow.
In this scenario each document can be modified with its corresponding edit form. It's not possible to select edit form to manipulate an xml-form document.

Drop Frame Timeline with 59.94 Editing Timebase

I'm working with DVCPRO HD footage for broadcast television. My Editing Timebase is 59.94 and under the Timeline Options tab the checkbox to select a Drop Frame timeline is grayed out. I have a sequence that needs to be EXACTLY 22 minutes in running time, but I can't find a way to change to a Drop Frame timeline. I have found this to be the case for all 59.94 sequences. Any suggestions?

Most TV shows that are broadcast are cut in NTSC, non-drop frame.
I think that you'll find that to be incorrect. The SEQUENCES are always drop frame...because we need to know the proper show times. It is the CAMERA MASTERS that are mostly shot NDF...for the clean lists. IN the past (and still currently I suppose) when dealing with onlining on a tape to tape system or sometimes with an Avid Symphony, you needed NDF masters for the clean workable EDL. That is becoming less of the norm lately, but it is still wise to shoot one format...DF or NDF, instead of mixing. NDF camera masters are the norm.
But DROP FRAME NTSC sequences are the norm. Although NDF HD sequences are the norm lately, but I wonder if that is due to the NLEs that don't offer DF timelines. Which is stupid, as the decks are DF capable.

Editing Timebase - 29.97fps footage, timeline jumps to 24

My footage is in 29.97 but for some reason the settings on the timeline won't change from 23.98. When I paste it to a different timeline - it'll go to 23.98 and won't let me change it. I'm putting graphics on it which need to be at 29.97 for the animation to work. Thoughts?

You can't change the timebase once there are clips in the timeline. If you delete the clips from the timeline you will see that you can change the timebase. But that's no different than just making a new sequence with the proper settings as Shane suggested. I am not sure if clip parameters change, but if you have done editing and don't want to lose it, you could try selecting all the content of the timeline, pressing cmd-x to cut it all and paste it to the clipboard, then go in and change the settings, then press cmd-v to paste the clipboard contents back into the original place. Might require going into the motion tab and changing the time remapping option back to default.

How do I save multiple copies of the same photo with different edits

I want to make several photos (each with different crops and enhancements) from one existing photo and also want to keep my original as is for future edits.. Is there a save as feature or a way to copy paste to different albums.

Sha the original to itunes or the Camera Roll. Make the edits you want the share the photo to the Camera Roll or more per able iTunes. The make more edits and share again. To go back to the original photo you can use the Revert to Original function.

           Those are production system
*** The problem:
Customer can't pay Oracle EE, they want to change to Oracle Std One
Limitations:
I cant have a similar system to test.

Install Oracle Std One, in the same path:

ASM:

1. I've seen physical servers with 3 ASM instances: +ASM1, +ASM2, +ASM3
   on Solaris & Oracle 10g, I suppose is posible on 11g
2. The sever has occupied 2 sockets (2 physical CPU), so I can use Oracle Standard Ed One.

1. - You cannot run two ASM instance simultaneously on one Server, but you can run many Oracle database simultaneously
      on the same server which they use the ASM as storage type.

2. - Why you want the same instance name?
If it is about the service name, which has by default the same instance name, just you can create a different instance name
and create the service name with the name that you wish.
SQL> alter system set service_names='instance_name';
Is a similar name, not the same
PROD, QA & DEV
PROD1, QA1 & DEV1
I consider add "1" at the end to refer "Oracle Standar Ed One"
But I agree with you, i can customize throught service_name.

XML Forms editing/showing with 2 different edit/show forms

does anybody know how to set xml forms to achieve the possibility to edit one created news with 2 different forms, based for example on the layout set used?
any hint would be appreciated.

Hi Marco,
If I understood your problem you need that a xml file to be read by another form.
There is a property called: resouce type (metadata, belong to system).
When you save your xml file (from form) this property is setted by the system. Using this value the system knows how to open this file.
If you need to pass this information (xml file)among differents forms, in your forms you can add a combo box in which you set up this property. When you change this value of this property (name of resource type the other form)you carry out that this xml file to be read for other form.
The truth is different forms, use differents resource type, therefore these forms can not,simultaneously,read the same xml file.
Also, if you create your own layout set, within collection renederer you can filter by resource type.

A slightly different "edit in" from Lr to Ps question

I have the most perplexing issue with Lr round-tripping to Ps that I have ever encountered. I spent 14 hours today uninstalling and reinstalling Lr and Ps and resetting plugins, settings and preferences, and could never get images to “edit in” from Lr to Ps. Finally, after the 5th reinstall and more “other” things than I can count, I just gave up. Quite by accident I went to another FOLDER in Lr and to make a long story short realized that only the FOLDER (and associated collections) for this one particular shoot will not “edit in” and all other photos in Lr open in Ps like normal. So… is there ANYONE out there that can think of why on earth such a crazy thing cold be happening. I am completely stumped. Thanks for your time and consideration.

But when working with filters and using flags i've seen the bug (IMHO), that the PSD-File is not being flagged like the source-picture is - or maybe it was the rating that wasn't set? Not sure, it's on my other machine far away… But my feeling is, that this was different in LR2 where i was always able to see the new created PSD-File next to the original. In LR3 it's (at least for me) a bit unpredictable what will happen after editing in PS…

I just bought a macbook pro and am ready to order Microsoft Office for Mac. I use Windows 2007 at work and want to be sure I am able to work with files from that system. Do I need to buy 2 different editions of Microsoft Office to be able to do this?

Sorry, but your likely going to have to use Windows 7 and Office on your Mac at work using Bootcamp.
Although you can share files OfficeMac and Office on Windows, the formatting will be off because two platforms use different installed fonts and formatting. This will cause a productivity lost and require extra editing at work
If you could share just PDF's then your fine, but that will unlikely be the case.
So to share files seamlessly your going to have to install Windows 7 (another $300) full version, 64 bit, using Apple's Bootcamp.

It's ok, though, you can boot into OS X to use that online and surfing etc at home. It's the internet and sharing of files from other Windows users that cause Windows to hoze up, so mimimalize both of those and you should be fine.
You can also run Windows 7 in a virtual machine software like Parallels or VMFusion. as long as you don't have any super demanding needs of the hardware, like running 3D games or super intense CPU actions like video processing. Office work is just fine and it's safer than Bootcamp, as in a virtual machine you can keep "snapshots" of previous states of the OS, and revert back to in case something goes wrong in mere seconds.
A real good piece of news though, Windows 8 is so radically changed from Windows 7, that your workplace will remain with Windows 7 as long as possible to put off all the retraining necessary with that new OS version.
So think of the $300 + $60 investment in Windows on your Mac as a longterm thing.

Premiere 6.02 - can't import video clips from a different editing program

If anyone has an answer I would really appreciate it. I am using Premiere 6.02 and XP. I have a 80 GB hard drive, 256 mb ram, and 1.7ghz. I have about 9 minutes of footage that I captured on MGI's videowave 4, which came bundled with my computer from Dell. It seems that I have to import the entire 9 minute clip from videowave into premiere to be able to edit it with premiere. I have been able to carefully make a few very broad edits of this 9 minutes in my premiere timeline, however, everytime I try to open it up I can't even make a single move before premiere is not responding and it has to close down. Is there anyway around this so I can utilize this 9 minutes by adding audio tracks, fades, and specific cuts? I have to be able to use this footage. Any suggestions would be great. Also, are there any chat rooms that exist where people discuss troubleshooting issues with premiere? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Thanks for the help. I'm in a bit of a tough situation right now.Again I have xp with 1.7 ghz, 256 mb ram, and 2 hard drives ( 40 gb and 80gb) with approx. 75 gigs free space. I'm trying to save about 12 minutes offootage that i captured with videowave 4 from being totally useless. I know you suggested to me that i convert from avi 1 files (videowave) to avi 2files (the only files premiere 6.0 accept apparently). I haven't been able to find anywhere online that has the software to do that with. My other alternative, considering the original footage on my camera has long since been erased, is to export from videowave to my camera and then import that footage into premiere and then i would be set. I wish I could. I couldn't get videowave to recognize how to "produce video" so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now I am able to get all the way to the point where I'm simply supposed to choose "output to dv" under the output menu. When I click the dropdown menu the only option available is "full screen", which I tried anyway. It does play the footage on full screen, but it certainly doesn't capture the footage to my camera. I've looked everywhere on the videowave web site and their solutions are brief, difficult to understand, and inconclusive. Oh, something that sounds like a problem is when I reinstalled videowave it said something about missing a indeo codec. I looked for it in my video codec properties and found a couple of versions,but what I gathered from online research was that I might need indeo codec xp 5.2 (seeing as how I'm running xp) which costs $15. I thenlooked onlineto find that codec for free somewhere to no avail. HELP!!!! THANKS!!

Different editions on wmware host and licencing

So, this is our setup:
We plan to buy Enterprise Edition on two blade server.
Also, we don't won't to pay for RAC on Enterprise Edition.
So, is it possible to have 2 virtual machines, with installed
Standard Edition and RAC (which is free in Standard Edition)
if I payed for Enterprise Edition (without RAC licence, 'cause
it cost 23 000 USD with Enterprise Edition)
Hint:In Microsoft, it is legally to buy one edition of SQL Server,
and install lower (and cheaper) edition.

I would assume that you would need to buy the Enterpise Edition plus RAC plus the Partitioning Option for all CPUs in both blade servers because of the requirement of partitioning for one or more of the databases running in the virtual machines. Your best bet is to talk to someone in Oracle Sales.

Editing Timebase settings

So recently I have been having issues with playback in real time in my Premiere Pro sequences. I get footage sent to me at 23.97fps Pro-res quicktime. And I am using it in the sequence:
Mode: HDV 720p
Timebase: 23.97fps
Aspect: Square Pixels
I was noticing that my frame 1 in the source monitor was actually frame 2 in the playback. Also everything requires to render. I made a new sequence by dragging and dropping the footage I received into the timeline and got this sequence.
mode: Custom
Timebase: 10.00 fps
Aspect: Square Pixels
This solved my frame problem. My question is: Will the 10fps Timebase mess up my timeline/export?
When I change the timebase back to 23.97 the issue arises again and I have to render all my footage.

Hi Bob - these are avi clips recorded with a canon powershot - they are 640X 40 and 30 images per second. I have worked with them successfully before (timeline is also set to jpeg compression at 75%). But this time no matter what kind of timeline I create my audio is coming out a second short - I've been ceaselessly trying various export combinations to resolve this problem.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

There are two Office for Mac 2011 applications in the Store - one in a yloow box, the other black - what's the differernce?

The Yellow box is the heavily discounted "Home & Student Edition" and the Black box contains the Full Price commercial version. I'm not positive, but I think that while the H & S Edition does Not contain Outlook for Mac, the Full Version may. And Only the H & S version may be installed at home on up to Three computers. The Full version can only be installed on one computer..
