Different Footnote Numbering Styles in One Page

Hello everyone,
I searched for a solution to this issue for so long, but in vain.
I've been working on a document where I have to insert footnotes and assign 2 styles or more to their reference numbers.
In MS Word, it is easily done. Can it be done in InDesign?
The following screenshot shows 3 different footnote numbering styles in one single page in MS Word:
If InDesign does not have the ability to do so, will it do in the future?
Thank you

Obviously, my question has completely sunk into oblivion!

  • How can you have two link styles on one page?

I have one style (formatted link style) for internal links in
my footer but I want a different style for the external links in my
mainContent. Is it possible to have two different "styles" of links
on one page? I tried creating a new set for the mainContent links
and being positioned underneath my footer link's styles, the "new"
mainContent link styles overrode the footer link style. Is there
another way of going about this?
    Thanks anyone, Julie

  • Two different TOC styles in one Pages document?

I'm a new Pages 2.0.2 user with a large document with two different tables of contents 20 pages apart. I'm trying to format them differently using different TOC styles but when I change one's style the other one changes as well. Anything I do format-wise to one goes over to the other as well. I'm hoping this is just something I have yet to learn about the product. Any thoughts?

    Hi
Someone else might know but this doesn't look good, taken from Pages Help:
"Changing the appearance of text in a table of contents
You can change the appearance of text in a table of contents and also add a leader line between a TOC heading and its associated page number.
To change the appearance of text in a table of contents:
Select the TOC heading you want to change. When you select a TOC heading, all the entries of the same heading type are automatically selected; headings cannot be individually selected.
Click View in the toolbar, and then choose Show Styles Drawer.
The Styles drawer displays a list of table of contents (TOC) styles. The TOC style that corresponds to the selected entry type is also selected.
Do one or more of the following:
To change the appearance of text, change it as you would format any paragraph text. For example, choose Format > Font or use the Text Inspector to make edits.
To create leader lines from a TOC heading to its associated page number, click Inspector in the toolbar, click the Text Inspector button, and then click Tabs. Click the value for the TOC in the Tab Stops list, and then choose a line style from the Leader pop-up menu."

  • Macintosh HD, two different "Available" numbers given? One full one with plenty of space.

My macbook pro has been acting slow and I stumbled on this in the Disk Utility. Of the two hard drive icons, the top one says 18.9 mb available whereas the one under it and in About This Mac give the number 187 gb. Any clue what is causing this? Not sure if this could be the cause of my mac's slow performance.

    The second one is correct.

  • Footnotes--Customize numbering style sequence?

I am reproducing the text of old books (100+ years) and need to customize the footnote numbering style. Is there anyway to do that? For example, I need a sequence similar to the "*, †, ‡, §, ¶..." option but want to add the symbol || between the § and the ¶.
    Thanks for your help,
    Will

Seems to me that the problem was the number doesn't really "exist" in the same way as the text that follows (I'm no scripter so don't know how to phrase that in terms of the object model). Applying the nested style through 1 word, for example applied it to the first word following the number, even though there was a space or tab intervening, while applying it up to 1 word worked perfectly.
I would think you might be able to (says the non-scripter) write some sort of find/change that would look at a list of conventional roman digits in the list, then change to the required symbols on a one-for-one basis (that's a challenge, Harbs), but I don't have a clue how you could add a symbol to a pre-defined list -- that would be like going 1, 2, 3, 3-1/2, 4...

  • FootnoteOptions numbering style

    Hi
Is there any possibility to "off" the footnotenumbering style
    with(myDocument.footnoteOptions)
    {footnoteNumberingStyle=FootnoteNumberingStyle.ARABIC}
    Regards
    Suresh

The object model viewer or any other reference shows that there are six footnote numbering styles, and "None" is not one of them. Just as in the interface. That means that if you want footnotes without numbers, you have to delete the numbers in existing notes.

  • CS3 footnotes numbering

    Hi,
I have imported text from a word doc into my indesign document with footnotes. I want the footnote numbering to continue from page to page but it is starting at 1 on each page. I have checked in the Document Footnote Options and the numbering is set to start at 1 and the 'Restart numbering every' option is not checked.
Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Alan

    @Alan
When you place the text in InDesign as 1 story the numbering should continue. But if you used multiple stories (text boxes who are not connected with text threads) unfortunately the numbering will start at 1 in every story.
Unfortunately CS4 works the same way. Already made a feature request for this footnote issue.

  • Different Footnote Styles within one document

I work in InDesign 5.5. Currently I'm working on a project that requires different footnote styles within one document (1, 2, 3, . . . and a, b, c, . . .). How can I set them up as different styles? If I make a change in the Document Footnote Style section, all the footnotes are changing, but I need them different for different sections. How do I do that? Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm working on a book interior. The book interior has two sections, a intro section and a regular text section. For the intro section footnotes should be styled as a., b., c., etc. and for regular text the footnotes should be styled as 1., 2., 3., etc. It seems though that I can only select one style in the Document Footnote Style section, but I need two different styles.

  • Can I have 2 different styles for Footnote numbers and footnote text?

    Hello,
I have a document with plenty of footnotes.
I would like to assign all the footnote numbers to a character style, and all the text to a different character style.
For example, I would like to have the footnote numbers in bold and in black, while the footnote text in light and in dark gray.
Doing this manually isn't an option obviously.
    Is that possible?
If not are there any scripts out there that can manage it?
    Thank you
    Federico

    It is simpe to make.
Crete a Chyaracter Style for the footnote number.
Set up the Paragraph Style for the Footnote text.
Go to the Nested Styles section
    Select the Character Style
Apply it to the first specified separator symbol (like tabulator) you have choosen when you have set up your footnotes.
Use it. It will apply automatically. Of course, you have to choose this Footnote Paragraph Style in the Footnote Set Up Settings in the Type menu.

  • In Pages (5.5.1) can I create multiple Paragraph Styles within one paragraph?

In Pages (5.5.1) can I create multiple Paragraph Styles within one paragraph.
I need to make a table of contents for my Mater's Thesis and want to use the automatic table of contents feature.  I want the first sentence of a paragraph to have a different paragraph setting than the rest of the paragraph.  Is this possible?
    Thanks!

Nice of you to be doing this for your Mother's Thesis.
    There are several issues here:
    1. A Paragraph Style is what it says, the style for the paragraph
    2. You can format text within a paragraph by applying a Character Style
    3. Pages 5.5.1 lets you apply formatting to overall text for the T.O.C. but not parts of it and you can not retain that formatting as a Paragraph style
So in answer to your question, no.
You will need to create the T.O.C. manually and unfortunately as Pages 5.5.1 can't create bookmarks (just one of over 100 missing features) you will be unable to link the T.O.C. to the referred pages in the list.

  • How Can I Change One Page to Look Different From The Rest of My Pages?

Hi, my website uses a CSS page with a dark background and white type. But I have one page I need to have a white background and light grey type on. I am not sure how to do this without it changing all of my site's look which I don't want to do. I only want to change one page to have a different look. How can I do this? I am new to CSS so please try to explain how I can do this in simple terms if you can. Thanks.

There are 3 ways to use CSS.
External style sheet: a separate physical file that contains all your site wide rules & to which your html documents are linked.
    http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/DW-Link-Stylesheet.shtml
Embedded styles: page specific rules in the <head> section of code view.
    <head>
         <style type="text/css">
              page specific styles go here...
         </style>
    </head>
Inline styles: CSS styles in the markup (mostly used for HTML emails and not on web sites).
         <p style="color:red">This paragraph has a red style.</p>
In order of importance, inline styles override embedded styles.  Embedded styles override external styles.

I have two different 5s's with two different phone numbers but they are both using the same iCloud/apple account. After upgrading to iOS8 when I get a phone call on one phone both phones ring. One phone is for work and one is for private and I don't need both phones to ring from one call. It's bizarre.......is this supposed to be like this? If so where can I turn it off?? And while we are at it iOS8 has installed iBooks on both of my phones and iTunes won't let me uninstall it. I don't need or want iBooks on my phones.

    Hi,
There are two easy fixes to this.
One, you can set up Family Sharing, in which you can have two different iCloud Accounts, yet still share the same apps, music, media etc.
Two, go to Settings and turn-off "Handoff". This can be found under the General page.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can the new numbers export PDF as more than one page?

I just upgraded to the new version of Numbers for OS X Mavericks and it seems I can not
see my document as different pages or even export a PDF as several pages.
    Thanks,
    Alex Neuman

    Hi Alex,
It took me a while to get my head around the difference between Export to PDF (everything on one page) and Print, where we can 'Print to PDF'.
    Do this:
    Menu > File > Print...
You will see Print Preview. At the bottom of the panel on the right,
click on Print. It won't print yet, but will take you here:
Now we see Page 1 of 4 .
Click on PDF to go here:
Choose Save as PDF to a folder of your choice (mine is called Desktop Temp). In Finder, open that folder then double click on the PDF to open in Preview.
    Then Print from Preview.
    Phew.
    Regards,
    Ian.
