Different Footnote Styles within one document

I work in InDesign 5.5. Currently I'm working on a project that requires different footnote styles within one document (1, 2, 3, . . . and a, b, c, . . .). How can I set them up as different styles? If I make a change in the Document Footnote Style section, all the footnotes are changing, but I need them different for different sections. How do I do that? Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm working on a book interior. The book interior has two sections, a intro section and a regular text section. For the intro section footnotes should be styled as a., b., c., etc. and for regular text the footnotes should be styled as 1., 2., 3., etc. It seems though that I can only select one style in the Document Footnote Style section, but I need two different styles.

In Pages (5.5.1) can I create multiple Paragraph Styles within one paragraph.
I need to make a table of contents for my Mater's Thesis and want to use the automatic table of contents feature.  I want the first sentence of a paragraph to have a different paragraph setting than the rest of the paragraph.  Is this possible?
    Thanks!

Nice of you to be doing this for your Mother's Thesis.
    There are several issues here:
    1. A Paragraph Style is what it says, the style for the paragraph
    2. You can format text within a paragraph by applying a Character Style
    3. Pages 5.5.1 lets you apply formatting to overall text for the T.O.C. but not parts of it and you can not retain that formatting as a Paragraph style
So in answer to your question, no.
You will need to create the T.O.C. manually and unfortunately as Pages 5.5.1 can't create bookmarks (just one of over 100 missing features) you will be unable to link the T.O.C. to the referred pages in the list.

  • Two different TOC styles in one Pages document?

I'm a new Pages 2.0.2 user with a large document with two different tables of contents 20 pages apart. I'm trying to format them differently using different TOC styles but when I change one's style the other one changes as well. Anything I do format-wise to one goes over to the other as well. I'm hoping this is just something I have yet to learn about the product. Any thoughts?

    Hi
Someone else might know but this doesn't look good, taken from Pages Help:
"Changing the appearance of text in a table of contents
You can change the appearance of text in a table of contents and also add a leader line between a TOC heading and its associated page number.
To change the appearance of text in a table of contents:
Select the TOC heading you want to change. When you select a TOC heading, all the entries of the same heading type are automatically selected; headings cannot be individually selected.
Click View in the toolbar, and then choose Show Styles Drawer.
The Styles drawer displays a list of table of contents (TOC) styles. The TOC style that corresponds to the selected entry type is also selected.
Do one or more of the following:
To change the appearance of text, change it as you would format any paragraph text. For example, choose Format > Font or use the Text Inspector to make edits.
To create leader lines from a TOC heading to its associated page number, click Inspector in the toolbar, click the Text Inspector button, and then click Tabs. Click the value for the TOC in the Tab Stops list, and then choose a line style from the Leader pop-up menu."

  • Can you have different setup settings on one document?

    Hello.
I'm new to In-Design. (I own CS5) I used it back in college to make a double page spread but have only returned to it now at University. I have to create a book and submit it, in print ready format. I've tried things out for myself but some things just confuse me.
Basically, I've created a front and back cover with a spine on a document. I am wondering if I can work on the same document with my book pages and have my book pages set up with different margins? (for the inner sides)
I've been working on a seperate document for the book, but I'd like to have it all in one file to submit for the project. I'm also looking at getting the book sent to some publishers afterwards as I've been advised to. I'm just having troubles with general set up.
Also, this isn't in the title question, but if anyone can answer another, I'd be very grateful!
My story has to be 16 pages. With an inside front and back cover as well as the main book cover, that's a total of 20 pages and 6 sheets of paper, right?
When I put in the other 18 pages, Pages 1 and 18 are seperate (non facing) pages. How do I make them print together? I did a test print and they didn't print like a double page spread... or is it that when it comes to properly printing and binding a book, pages 1 and 18 will join together?
I'm terribly sorry for the newbish questions. I have tried researching a lot but still got confused and it's my first time learning about publishing anything other than a single piece of paper.
    Thank you
    Natalie

    Natalie,
You can create several master pages within one doc. There you can change the margins and lots of other things. Then you can apply these masters to your "normal" pages.
For the cover, I would advice to leave it apart, since you created a spine, but if your book is only going to be 20 pages the spine can be omitted. In this case, first page of your doc is the cover and the last page is the back.
It seems to me it's a saddle stiched booklet, so if "print ready" means imposed, you'll have to create a booklet. Make sure the complete book has 20 pages because if you print on both sides of the paper (let's say you made the doc on A4) the imposed booklet will be printed on A3 format (double A4).

  • Different paragraph styles within a text thread

Does anybody know if it's possible to apply a different paragraph style to each text box in a text thread? I have three boxes: the first and the last have a small font and I'd like the middle one to have a larger font size.
If it's not possible, is there an alternative way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Nacho

Offhand i'd say that what Nacho wants to do will entail having separate text boxes...
Seems to me that what he's doing is having the text flow from one box to another (column?). Obviously, changing / editing content will cause the text to shift its position.
Nacho, i think you'll have to do one of the following:
1/ Manually adjust the font style for the box you want each time you mke a correction
    or
2/ Set up different, independent boxes (text areas) and style the box the way you want. Obviously changing text will mean changes in the area used by that box...
Maybe someone else here can help out with a better suggestion...

  • I need to create several different sets of radio buttons within one document.

How do I designate a group of radio buttons. When I export my file as it is now, all of the radio buttons in my file are in just one group, which is not accurate.
    Thank you

Thank you. As it turns out I had done it correctly, the style was just so, that the radio button was hard to distinguish if it had been clicked or not. When I zoomed in there was a slight dot in the center of the radio button to designate that it was actually selected.
    Thank you again.

  • Multiple paragraph styles within one cell?

Maybe I'm missing something real simple but I'm having a bit of an issue with styles.  What I'm trying to do is have the name of a tool in one paragraph style and the description (separated from the name by "-") in another paragraph style - all within the same cell of a table.  Instead, when I try to change styles it changes all text within the cell.  Even if I go back and highlight the tool name and change it to a different style than the description it changes all text including what is not highlighted.  If anyone has a solution I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks, Dave!  Nested styles works perfectly.  I figured the solution would've been something simple like this.

  • Different image behavior within same document

    Hello,
I'm making a catalog for which I got photos  from various sources but mainly white background JPGs. I noticed that  when I place them in InDesign document some of them have transparent  background and some not. I checked in photoshop and background value is  the same for all of them but they behave differently. For example, when I  click on an element in a picture with a transparent background InDesign  automatically recognizes border of an element in the picture which can be quite useful   if you want to change background color inside InDesign but I don't know how to  achieve that intentionally. Here is one pic so you can see how it looks like.
    http://picpaste.com/pics/scrshot-yowfgk4r.1296572291.jpg
Thanks for helping me with this!

JPGs cannot be transparent. JPGs cannot have Clipping Paths.
You need to create a Clipping Path in Photoshop and aply the Path and save the image as a PSD or a TIFF
    http://www.graphic-design-employment.com/photoshop-clipping-paths.html
Alternatively you can remove the background and save as a PSD or TIFF (select to save transparency in the options)
    http://www.google.ie/search?q=photoshop+remove+background&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.m ozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
You can of course use within InDesign the Object>Clipping Path>Options and Detect Edges
Alter the Tollerance and Threshold to get desired result but it probably won't be as accurate as the above methods.

  • Copy styles from one document to another

Is there a way to copy styles?
    Another question:
Can a saved document be opened and the layout changed.  For instance, to from portrait to landscape or full page to booklet?
    Trudie

I knew it had to be something simple I was missing.  I was able to do it in Quark, so InDesign should have a way.  I can't believe I miss something so obvious (after you refreshed my mind where to look)

  • Is it possible to create different font styles within the same text field?

The form I am creating is getting really complex because when different fields require different font treatments (bold, italic, different font size, different font) I have to create a seperate text box and get it to align with the others. This wouldn't be an issue in most cases but this form is really detailed and has many text boxes. Before I stuggle too much longer on it, I thought I would check and see if there is a way to make them all in the same text field. If not, perhaps I am trying to use Acrobat for something it is not meant for. Any recommendations on other programs I could use? Thanks

Thank you try76. I'm not sure if I did it correctly. As soon as I tick the Rich Text Formatting box it automatically changes the appearance of the text in the field (Helvetica Light to something like Helvetica Heavy) I can't seem to get the font back to Helvetica light or change the font size while the Rich Text Formatting box is ticked.

  • One document... different page sizes?

Hi! I just upgraded to InDesign CS4. My boss wants me to create a flipbook. I have the October issue of InDesign Magazine which will help. However, the document I want to turn in to a flipbook has 6 regular-sized page (8.5x11) and one larger page (11x17). I know in Quark (which I much more familiar with) you cannot have different page sizes within one document. Can you do this in InDesign? Thanks.
    Julie

Having played with this a bit, let me ask this a different way. I'm taking a printed document that is like a regular magazine (except it's much shorter). It has a front cover which is 8.5 x 11 and a back cover which is 8.5x11. All interior pages are 2-page spreads. From what I can tell, I have to create the pages in InDesign 4 and export them as an swf file. This currently creates all 2-page spreads. So... how do I get the front and back covers to be single pages? I can do it so that the other half of the spread is blank, but that's not what I want. I want it it to "act" like a real magazine. Thanks.

  • Multiple index (indices) in one document

Is it possible to create two indices within one document?
I've got a book made up of 4 separate indesign docs. I'd like to generate two indices – one listing brands, the other listing by product type
Is it possible, or is the index function only set up to handle one index per book/document?

That's what I love about this place.
My take was the OP wants several indexes included, each from different entries, where you seem to think the OP want s to choose a single index to include from a list of possible indices based on different entries. I'd say conditinal text would do an excellent job of that, but I'm not sure in the real world anyone would actually want to do it. Why mark index entries at all if you don't plan on including them?
Each for a different edition/product/brand edition. I thought that was the goal.
OK, I'l buy that as a legitimate possibility, in general, but in rereading the first post I stand by my position.

  • LSMW Material Master - create several valution types within one Run

    Hello @ll,
i created a LSMW for material master migration, and i would like to create up to 4 different accounting views (based on different valuation types) within one LSMW Run.
As there is the Field BWTAR on Structure BMM00, and the accounting fields on Structure BMMH1 i dont know if:
    1. this is possible in general with LSMW and
    2. if possible where i have to set the "transfer_record" commands...
Does anybody have experience on this?
    BR,
    Gregor H.

I never used the standard batch input method, so I cant answer this part. But with IDOC as import method I do this right now and it works without any problem
The transfer record command is set in the  section of processing time  __END_OF_RECORD__
you can display this section when you are in field mapping and conversion rules. choose from menu Extras > Layout and activate all boxes.
