Different ink?

I understand the Photosmart D7560 uses new ink cartridges rather than the standard Vivera ones.   According to the PC Magazine review, prints have a life of only 30 years when not behind glass. I have been using HP inks and Premium Plus paper because of the 200+ year estimate I have seen for Vivera ink prints in albums.  Do I need a different printer and inks to continue to get this performance?

Hello farry2 ,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you have some extra ink left over from the Officejet 8500.
Seeing that the 8500 uses 940 ink that 8600 uses 950/951, I can see how this could be an issue.
I suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

I just posted my issue and do not see it anywhere.  Here it is again.
I was told by the gentleman at HP that I could exchange my ink that I can no longer use because I just upgraded to a different HP printer.  My ink is new and very costly.  How does this work?

  • Hp photosmart plus printer will not copy or print in black ink

HP Photo Smart Plus will not print black.  I can get other colors to print. I have used print Doctor to diagnose and
could not find a problem. I did get printer to print black and all colors on test page. When printing  I do not get a error message other than a red x.  I have also tried a different ink cartidge  with no results.

    Hi Dee54321,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see you are not able to print in black ink on your HP Photosmart Plus B210a.
I would like you to continue here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, I understand you may have done some of these steps already but I need you to complete all steps in order to resolve the missing black issue you are experiencing.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
If you are still unable to print in black ink, I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. I highly recommend you call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • Need help with changing my region to accept EU ink cartridges on Photostat 2610

I have permanently moved to Poland (Europe)from Canada. I have brought with me HP printer Photo-smart 2610 All in one Ink cartridges do not work . I found out ,that I have to change a region for my printer to accept different inks. In Canada I was using nr 94 and 97 inks In Poland they offered me 339 and 344 (xl version) HP original. I have found out ,that it is possible to change those settings contacting HP technical support. I am available under my E-mail {Personal Information Removed}. If it is necessary session could be arrange.
    Thank You and Best Regards,

    Hello Kasperraf,
That is very strange. When you contacted the support in Poland, was it on this number: (22) 583 43 73? They have all the tools necessary to change the region of your printer.
The printer you have is almost certainly out of warranty but that should not matter for when you need to change the region of your printer. You should refer them to this document:

  • Photosmart C6280 Not Printing Black Ink

    HI.
I have 3 of the HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One Printers and they have now all got the same problem. When I print or scan anything no black ink is printed.
I have tried 3 different ink caritriages including the official hp ones  with no luck.
When the printer does a test print, it prints all the other colours except black.
All ink cartirages are full except the pink one. Does this need to be full? It has not been on the other 2 and the black ink has still printed.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I've just spent the better part of my day trying to figure this out with my photosmart C4580.
long story short:  I noted the instructions for storage of cartridges when not in use (print at least once/month; if you take a cartridge out, store it in a ziplock: color with nozzles down, black with nozzles up.)
So I just took out my black cartridge and sat it upside down/nozzles up for a while, maybe an hour, until I noticed black streaks.
I put it back into the printer, printed black text & it FINALLY printed black, albeit streaked.
cleaned the print cartridges and now it's PERFECT!!!
    give it a shot!

i have hp c309a all in one premiun printer most things work well except the ink and cartridges installed brand new original hp cartridges 5 have printed both color and grey but the only ink being consumed is the black . photo black magenta cyan blue stay the same level black is now close to depletion 1. why does this happen 2. if black runs out, an i have the four remaining, will printing stop 3.in the printer settings section, if i put to color and save after sometime it changes to black(grey) if i do it the other way round it works for sometime and then changes coud you assist thank you aamir

    Hello jaycee32,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see you have concerns regarding the ink usage with the 61 cartridges, I hope to shed some light on the concern. I see that the 61 has a page yield of 190 pages (based on the ISO/IEC standard), which is lower than some others printer using different ink. Depending on what you are printing, the ink will not reach such page numbers. Think of it like the mileage your car gets to what the factory advertises.
Slight changes in the document, font size, color to black, etc will increase or decrease the usage. Ink is also used in maintenance to ensure proper print quality, and some ink evaporates over time. To learn more, click here: Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers

  • Split line/tone Pantone swatches of same color look different

QUESTION: In Illustrator I need to split a Pantone color into two different swatches (line and tone). When I duplicate the swatch and rename it with an "L" in front, the color looks different (with overprint preview)! Same CMYK values – I checked. I know it has something to do with how the swatch is named, because if I rename both swatches I don't have this problem. What's going on and how can I fix this?

    John Danek wrote:
Not sure, but I would not recommend renaming Pantone Spot color swatches.  What's the point?  I mean, why would you mess with the names?
I think they wants to use one swatch for certain parts of elements like the stroke and and perhaps the other for fills but of different and not necessarily common paths.
Changing the name make it easier for them to know which is applied to the other. There coud be a reason to keep them separate and to have the names be different to make the work flow effiecient.
I think the reason is that since they are now two different swatches it treats it as two different inks one from the book and the other from a CMYK mix.
It simply does not recognize the second swatch as a book color which would have to be a second plate with the same ink.
You cannot rename a book color.
So unless you were planning to hit the piece with two plates with the same spot color what you want to do is not possible.
I can see where you want this but I see no way of fixing it except a feature request.
Perhaps placing the same swatch in two different color groups?

  • Total Ink Limit Question??

I recently upgraded to IDCS4 (v6.0) on a Mac.  I am having a problem with total ink limits not agreeing between Photoshop and Indesign.
I prepared a CMYK document in PSCS4, embedded a GRACoL#1 profile, and adjusted the image so my total ink limit is 300 in the darkest shadows.  Then, I placed that image into IDCS4.  My color settings in ID are set to the exact same CMYK profile, and my policies are set to honor the embedded profile, Relative Colorimetric, BPC.  When I check the TAC in ID, it shows that I have over 320 in some areas, but that is not the case in the original Photoshop file.  Is Indesign converting to the default document profile and forcing the blacks to hit the 320 TAC in the GRACoL profile even though they are the SAME profile?  It doesn't seem to matter if I set CMYK to Preserve Profiles, OFF, or whatever in Color Settings.
If it is just assuming the GRACoL profile for readout, then I will just go by what is in Photoshop, which I trust more than I do Indesign.  But, I don't want to have some number conversions going on behind the scene, pumping up my ink limits.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Lou

Well....I thought it made sense, but I am not so sure after more playing around.
I reopened my placed TIFF documents in Photoshop, set my darkest blacks to 300 TAC, and resaved them without any profile.  When I relink these files to my Indesign document (files have no embedded profile), I get different ink limits than what shows up in Photoshop.
For example, if I set ID Color settings to "Emulate ID2 CMS OFF", those same blacks read out as 266 TAC in the Separations Preview box, even though they are set to 300 inside Photoshop. That makes no sense to me.  Color management in ID is off and the file I placed has no tag!    What is that about?
If I turn ON color management in ID, set the default CMYK profile  Gracol2006_Coated 1v2, (which has TIL of 320), set CMYK to Preserve Numbers (Ignore Linked Profiles), the same placed file shows 320 TAC in the black areas, even though I have placed an untagged file.
And if I set up a Proof Preview to US Web Coated SWOP v2 (which has a 300 TIL), the readout in ID shows 300 TAC in the blacks.
So, it looks to me like ID is doing calculations of its own to determine TAC.  It either uses the document default if no other profile is selected, (even if the file is untagged), or the proof condition if enabled.  With color management turned off in ID, who knows what it is doing.
BTW, if I check the "Simulate Black Ink" checkbox when setting up a Proof Preview, the ink limits do drop closer to what is in Photoshop, since no black remapping is taking place, but TAC still does not match.
I am probably missing something here, but if not, this is as useless as tits on a bull, and seems rather screwed up.  What am I missing?  I'm not new to color management and have been doing this for years, but I am new to CS4.
    Thanks, Lou

Feedback: I recently bought HP 564 2pack Black ink and HP 564 Combo for my HP Officejet 4620 which I purchased on 3/12/13. This Hp printer stopped printing in June of 2014 and I was advised by Microcenter, Cambridge, Ma. that the 4620 was not repairable. I purchased a new HP printer (8610) on 6/12/14. I now obviously need different ink and I still have unopened HP 564 2 pack Black ink and HP Combo Creative Pack. I would like to return these unopened inks in exchange for the ink cartridges for my new printer. I am aware of your 21 day limit on ink returns, but since your HP 4620 printer failed after 15 months, I believe credit for the unused ink is the least that HP can do in an effort to provide good customer care.

I have an unopened box of ink cartridges that my Mom bought for me awhile back. It is a 564 Combo Pack - Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. I recently moved to a new house and in the chaos, I couldn't find it until the other day when I unpacked a certain box.  I kind of stumbled upon it. Anyway, I wanted to know how to return it for a refund or use it for credit for the printer I do have.
My mom knew that I might be getting a new printer and she wanted to surprise me. But, I kept the same printer, but downloaded the drivers I needed to still use my older printer which was working very well. So she sent me them by mistake and now that I have found them, I wish to get a refund or credit towards future ink purchases? Please let me know what I can and cannot do.          Thanks,  Mark

My Photosmart 5510 does not recognize when I've installed a new black ink cartridge.  The front panel indicates that the black ink is now full but when I print a test sheet or anything else, the black ink does not come out.  I've tried (and potentially wasted) three different ink cartridges.

  • PDF in CMYK color space?

I'm working on the most recent version of Pages from iWork 2008 running on the most recent version of Leopard, and I have to create a PDF in the CMYK color space for publication, but I do not have Acrobat Distiller.
Is it possible to create a CMYK PDF with ColorSync filters? I have tried using the "Generate PDF-X/3" filter, with "Generic CMYK" as the target profile and transparency flattening, but the printer still says that my PDF is in the RGB color space. If not, is there any other way to create a CMYK PDF from Pages or to convert a RGB PDF or PostScript file to CMYK using ColorSync Utility? Are there any alternatives without purchasing Adobe Acrobat? What about if I first convert images to the CMYK color space before importing them to Pages?
I have seen similar questions posted elsewhere, but I can't find a straight answer anywhere.

    1. Obtain the ICC profile from the printer for his output device.
Correct. Either the shop printing condition or an ISO 12647 printing condition to which the shop can configure and calibrate the printing condition it is selling you. If the latter, you can get default ICC printer profiles for standard printing conditions at www.eci.org.
    2. Create a filter in ColorSync Utility for generating PDF/X-3 documents with the ICC profile as the output intent (besides flattening the transparency and applying an appropriate resolution).
    Correct.
    3. Print to PDF in Pages.
    Incorrect.
Your PDF/X-3 filter will become available in the system dialog for File > Print > Save as PDF. In saving as PDF you pick your PDF/X-3 filter as the template for the save process.
    4. Use ColorSync Utility to modify the resulting PDF with the filter I created in ColorSync Utility.
(or 3-4. Print directly to PDF through the filter from Pages)
Your second step to combine 3 and 4 is correct, your first step 4 to save to disk and then postprocess in the ColorSync utility is incorrect.
    5. Send this PDF/X-3 to the printer.
    Correct.
It seems that no hard conversion from RGB to CMYK should be necessary if I take these steps, is that correct?
    Correct.
If I send the printer a PDF in the RGB color space, should it cause problems for him to convert the PDF himself to the color space of his output device?
    No.
You create three channel RGB images in the RGB colourant data model (it's just a model, it is not a colour space which a size and a shape of the gamut).
You save your colourants to disk in TIFF or PDF format with the ICC profile for the capture colour space (e.g. the ICC profile for your specific scanner with a Kodak EktaChrome IT8) or correction colour space (e.g. Joseph Holmes' RGB working space for EktaChrome). This ICC profile is the _colour space_ that you can view in the ColorSync Utility as a specific size and shape of gamut. The colour space determines what colours the colourants in your TIFF or PDF image should reproduce on different colour devices.
You now have a pagination with photographic objects in three component RGB, and you know what colours those colourants are supposed to reproduce. You then include the production profile for the printing condition. Your source profiles must match to this destination profile in the matching session, so all your photographs get converted to the SAME ink limit, the SAME graybalance and so forth. This unifies the inking behaviour and the colour formation for your printing.
If you imagine that in your pagination you place photographs which are manually converted into four component CMYK using a different ink limit, a different graybalance and so forth then you have not unified your inking behavour and colour formation for the printing process. This is IDIOTIC because the only way to correct in this case is to change the calibration of the individual inking zones on the offset press - increasing or decreasing the cyan, magenta, yellow or black for that zone.
It used to be that lithography on the press was the only way to work. This was in the days of EPS and EPS DCS, and before that in the days of photographic printing masters pasted together manually piece by piece to make the printing planes. Nobody in their right mind works that way today.
