Different kernel version between systems

Hallo.
We have a three systems landscape ECC 7.00 kernel 7.00
DEV->TST->PRD
Can we upgrade SVI to kernel 7.21_EXT and stay with kernel 7.00 on TES and PRO without problems about transport of object from development to the other systems ?
Thanks a lot.
Mario

I recently worked on a project where we had Kernel 700 and we moved to 720.
We actually did have some issues. When upgrading the kernel and later running SGEN, issues arrised.
I can't remember exactly but, Kernel 720 and newer is built much more granular in terms of DDIC checks. So there is an OSS note you need to apply.
Look at this note 1610716 and 1636252. 1610716 did resolve some a ABAP dump I had
here are some links to follow how to

  • Cloning use the different gcc version between source system and target sys

    Hi All,
Our system is: Application tier and Database tier is split to two servers.
We should run a cloning, but I found the different gcc version on application tier on source system and target system.
The source application tier server is RedHat Linux ES3, gcc version is 3.2.3
The target application tier server is RedHat Linux ES3, gcc version is 2.9.6
There is the same gcc version on database tier on source system and target system, they are gcc 2.9.6.
My question: Can I use the different gcc version between source system and target system when I run an erp cloning?
    Thanks & Regards
    Owen

Not necessarily, you might get some errors if the version is higher and it is not supported by the OS. An example is Note: 392311.1 - usr/lib/gcc/i386-redhat-linux/3.4.5/libgcc_s.so: undefined reference to 'dl_iterate_phdr@GLIBC_2.2.4'
To be on the safe side, make sure you have the same version (unless you want to give it a try).

  • System won't boot - different kernel versions

    Hello everyone,
I have just made full system upgrade and Icant bool the system -> can't mount /boot/efi because vfat filesystem is not known.
I am using grub, I fixed it but the problem remains.
I have found out that output of 'uname -r'  shows kernel version: 3.17.3-1-ARCH and 'pacman -Q | grep linux' shows linux 3.18.2-2. What should I do to load 3.18.2-2?
I think that it is "the root" of my problem, isn't it? Can you help me please?

    Head_on_a_Stick wrote:
    Have you rebooted?
If you still cannot boot (your post is a little unclear on this), use (arch-)chroot from the live .iso and post the output of:
    # parted -l
    lsblk -f
Yes, reboot didn't help. Gonna chroot the system.

  • Why the different Kernel version?

While I am trying to figure out why my G4 X Serve cannot connect to the Intel X Server as an OD Replica, I noticed although the two are running the exact same version (10.5.4-build 9E17) of software, the Kernel versions are different: G4 - Darwin 9.4, Intel - Darwin 9.0.
Is this normal? And if it isn't, how to correct this? Thanks for any tips.

Well I guess you could use chgrp on a symlink, but only to protect the symlink itself which is pointless here as it's root:root anyway, and why wouldn't you just use root:root on symlinks you don't want users to tamper with?  If you do manage to think of an occasion where you need to change the ownership of symlinks you could use chgrp...
EDIT/ Doh even that is useless as you can't really protect symlinks as AFAIK permission will be set by parent directory...
Also, if the /dev/cdrom symlink did manage to disappear it would just be recreated on the next boot by systemd/udev!

  • QUERIES ON KERNEL VERSION UPDATES

can any one comment on this.
Uprade current kernel from RHAS 2.4.9-e.25enterprise to RHAS 2.4.9-e.49enterprise or 2.4.9-e.49enterprise
We need answers to the following questions:
    1. What are the requirements/impact in Oracle RAC when RHEL AS 2.1 version 2.4.9-e.25enterprise (current) is upgraded to e.49?
    2. How come a 3 node RAC cannot be composed of machines with different kernel
versions? (option is to have the 2 node with previous kernel and 1 node with
    the new kernel for testing)
    3. What are some known issues in kernel e.49?
    4. Has there been installation of Oracle for e.49? Is Oracle tested for this
    kernel version?
    5. Is it safe for our current version of Oracle Apps (11.5.8) & Dbase (9.2.0.5)
& OCFS (1.0.11) to upgrade to the latest kernel which is kernel e.59?
    6. If kernel is upgraded to e.49 or e.59 , is OCFS required to be upgraded also
from our current version of 1.0.11?
    7. Are there other Oracle modules/components that will be affected if
enterprise kernel is upgraded from e.25. to e.49 or e.59?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    venkat.

    Hi Ram,
Interestingly I found this link googling your name! Well, I hope you would had already found answers for your posting (They look outdated). I am not oracle geek but I guess
(In reply to your 7th question: Are there other Oracle modules/components that will be affected if enterprise kernel is upgraded from e.25. to e.49 or e.59?) I don’t think a layered component (like oracle DB) will have any effect because of kernel upgrade [Again, I not a oracle geek so I may be wrong!]
    I wish U good luck!

  • Different kernel between systems

    Hi,
Is there a problem with working on different kernels (32bit and 64bit) on different system.
for example working with ECC5 and BI7 on 64bit kernel and XI 3.0 and EP7 on 32bit.
does it hurts communicating between the different systems?
    Thanks in advance,
    Roey

I simply assumed that you ment two different system when you where writing BI7 and EP7.
When you install a BI7-system with both the ABAP and the Java-stack you automatically get an EP7 included in the Java-stack.
That portal installation must have the same SP-level as the rest of the Java-stack.

  • We have a Mac Book from 2007 System Version:     Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167)   Kernel Version:     Darwin 8.11.1

We have a mac book purchased in 2007 System Version:          Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167) Kernel Version:          Darwin 8.11.1
Which OS X version should we or can we upgrade to?

A retail 10.5 Leopard disk will run you over $200 since they haven't been made for over 4 years so they're getting pretty rare.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 if you want to upgrade further Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.
First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
    The model 2,1 (Mid 2007) can use 3gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
    The model 3,1 (Late 2007) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM

As per my knowledge it wont effect your sytem performance, you can still proceed with what you have now but its better to have same JAVA version

  • Data migration between different ECC versions

Is there a way to migrate data between two different ECC versions?
I know that there are differences between the tables and therefore TDMS transports are not possible. But is there another way to get master data from one version (6.0 EHP 3) to another one (6.0 EHP 4)? For example a tool that can prepare the exported data for the import in a higher version?
    thx

That's indeed the most feasible option we have on the table right now. Although we have a lot of Z-fields and would need to transfer them with LSMW.
The ZMATMAS has only been built for outbound...

Can you please tell me the differences between different IR versions?
    Thanks

Here are the 11.1.2 specific IR changes: from the R&A Readme:
    Interactive Reporting
    Support for SFTP
SFTP protocol is now supported for distribution outputs generated by jobs and schedules. For more information, see the Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Framework Administrator’s Guide.
    Interactive Reporting Roles
Two new roles, IR HTML Viewer and IR WebClient Viewer, have been added for Interactive Reporting. For additional information, see the EPM User and Role Security Guide.
    Removal of CMC
CMC is no longer a separate web application. All functionality has been merged into the Administer module. For more information, see the Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Framework Administrator’s Guide.
There are also several Workspace changes which would could impact IR users as well, depening on your particular set up , it might be worthwhile reviewing those as well.

  • Integration of R3 Systems(Different ECC Versions) with PI

    Hi,
I have a situation where a PI system has to be integrated with R3 Systems of different ECC Version.
Please explain me what is the best practiced solution for this situation?
    With Regards,
    Manikandan Rajendran

    Hi,
Integration of R/3 with Pi can be achieved by most frequently used communication wasy as IDOC, RFC, Proxy etc.
Now the type of communciation depends upon R/3 versions such as Proxy can be used for WAS > 6.4.
For mass data and asynchornous communciation IDOC can be good solution. In lower versions (WAS<6.4), where proxy can't be used, RFC is good option for Synchronous communciation.

I want to check object version between DEV system and Quality System.
Is there any program to do that in BI7?
    Regards,

    Hi Kobul,
For that you should write an ABAP coding using
BAPI_IOBJ_GETDETAIL to compare the object version of the two systems.

  • Relation between R3 kernel version 640 and  4.6B, C D

    Hi,
What is the relation between R3 Kernel 640 version and  SAP 4.6B, C, D versions. Based on R3 kernel version how to identify the sap version e.g. 4.6B, C D etc.
    Thanks.
    Anirudh,

    Hello Anirudh,
Every SAP release will have its own set of kernel releases
SAP Kernel 7.00 is valid for ECC 6.0.
SAP kernel 640 is actually valid from SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7. it is also valid for ECC 5.0
For  4.6 C kernel release 46D is available.
For 4.6B SAP Kernel 4.6B and 4.6 C are available.
    For 4.6A  4.6A,4.6B and 4.6C are available.
This is what is available in marketplace however I have heard about something called downward compatability of kernels which means lower releases can have higher kernels.
You must always go for the highest available kernel patch.
However kernel is OS bit size specific

  • Can i do client export import between systems with different patch levels

we want to do a client export import between two systems. As I understand the patch levels should be the same in both for this to happen..
But right now I am in a situation where time is a big constrant. The basis patch level is on par. But the rest are not. Can I do  client import successfully at this stage.

The only thing that may stop it working could be additional functionality between the systems.
I work on XI and there is a huge difference between SP12 and SP15.  We were able to do the transports between systems, but as Dev was patched before QA, and the transport was reliant on standard settings not being available, it still went though, but we had to transport it again after applying SP15 to QA.
Again, it probably depends on what System you have running on Netweaver...

  • Kernel panic after system update - can't boot :(

    Hi
I've applied some pending updates to the system while restarting my MBP (I'm not sure, but it probably has contained the update from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4) but now it won't boot - I get a kernel panic.
