Different LineMetrics for Type1 & TTF Fonts

You are able to use Adobe Type1 Font's on an Windows Platform.
1) Copy the pfb and afm file to jre/lib/fonts
2) Start your Programm with -Dsun.java2d.noType1Font=true
The Font Engine is now able to use Adobe Type1 Font's
Now my Problem:
I have the same Font as Type1 and as TrueType File, but the LineMetrics are different ! Why ?????

This is because the font metrics are different. A TTF font that mimics a Type 1 is just that, a mimic. If it looked identical the font foundry that created it may have a legal issue. There are a couple of solutions I use: if I need a TTF or PS version of a font I use a program called TransType from Font Labs (.com) - $99 and it goes everyway which way possible to make the platform/type of font you need. What it cannot do is make a PS version of a stylized TTF font - example: Time New Roman Bold is different than Times Bold. The stylizing cannot be converted to a Type 1 font. If you use a TTF and Type 1 font on a Mac system and they are named the same (some people rename their fonts) the TTF has precedence. To use both you need a type manager like Suit Case.
Last, a font creation program like Fontographer can change the metrics of a font. Therefore, you can have a TTF and Type 1 look "similar" just make sure you name the new font something different than its default name.

  • TTF Font for Unix Server?

    Hi,
    Does all TTF fonts works in Unix environment for the Font Subseting of Oracle PDF Reports?
    Thanks.

    Absolutely. It's just that you'd probably using a different font (Type1 font) for formatting your report. However, you can still subset a TTF. Ensure that you have an appropriate entry in uifont.ali plus the .TTF file's path is added to REPORTS_PATH.
    With latest Solaris version you may also install TTF and use it in your applications.

    In the Xorg log, the differences are:

  • Microsoft TTF Fonts package needed for commercial use in portable application

    Hello there i am designing an application in java which is based on being a portable application of pdf converter. My design needs to have the ttf Fonts independently present in the application. Is there any way or agreement to buy the Microsoft ttf fonts
    package for commercial use. This package should be independent of the being used only on the Microsoft Windows.

  • Photoshop CS6 Different Groups for Fonts?

    So I was wondering if there is a way to have a different group for a set of fonts.
    http://gyazo.com/9b6f654231e9f8493bf48de69156393e <--- In that screenshot you have different groups of brushes you can easily click, am I able to do something like this for fonts? It would help so much!

    In addition to the one TD mentioned, several other font managers allow you to activate and de-activate fonts through a Photoshop plugin. The one I was using is Main Type from High-Logic.
    Here's a nice set of capsule reviews of a number of font managers, for both Windows and Mac.

  • Kerning different between mac and pc with ttf fonts?

    Hello!
    When I take a file from my PC to my company's mac the ttf font kerning is fine, but when I go from mac to pc the kernning gets all messed up. is there anything that I can do to fix this? Or do I need to buy a mac to be sure I get accurate fonts across my and my company's computers?
    Thanks!

    Kerning information is part of each font, whether TrueType, PostScript Type 1, or OpenType. If you have the exactly same font on both platforms (in their respective versions, if necessary), going back and forth should be a straightforward process. (The only exception concerns ligatures with TT and PS fonts, but, even there, the kerning should be unaffected.)
    Are you sure you are not seeing just some screen display anomaly? Have you compared actual printed output?
    Are you using a professional-grade font? Many cheap or free fonts are deficient in areas, such as kerning. You might think you have the same font on both platforms, but the "cheap" font on your Windows machine might, in fact, not be the exact equivalent of an identically named font on your company's Mac.

  • How to install .ttf fonts in Solaris 10 x86 10/08 ?

    Hi,
    I have installed Solaris 10 x86 10/08 on my Pentium-II machine. It is working fine. I am using Java Desktop Session 3 (JDS3).
    I have to install a few true type fonts (.ttf) to the machine and make it accessible in the gnome-terminal. I have the font files, that is .ttf files, in my system, but they are not installed.
    Could you please give me the procedure to achieve this? Should I install any patches for this?
    Regards,
    Sreeram

    Hello Lubos Kocman,
    Thanks for your reply. I followed your suggestion and put the .ttf fonts in the /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType directory and rebooted the system.
    [Actually, you had mentioned to put them in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF directory. But I did not find the TTF directory. Instead I found TrueType directory and so I felt it appropriate to place them here.]
    But still I am unable to access and choose those fonts from my gnome-terminal's font list. Have I missed something? The same result was obtained when I placed the fonts in the ~/.fonts directory also. Please guide me if I am doing something wrong.
    How do we ensure that the system has recognised the fonts which have been installed newly? Any commands to confirm this? Are there any log files pertaining to fonts, where we can know whether the fonts were recognised by the system, and if not recognised, the reason for the same?
    Also, I would like to paste the contents of /etc/release of my system:
    Solaris 10 10/08 s10x_u6wos_07b X86
    Copyright 2008 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
    Use is subject to license terms.
    Assembled 27 October 2008
    Should I install any patches to this version of Solaris 10 to get the .ttf fonts installed. As mentioned earlier, I am using Java Desktop System, Release 3 desktop.
    Kindly guide me in installing/accessing the .ttf fonts.

  • FM9 Save CMYK As PDF again: different results for instances of one character

    Hi,
      A customer sent me an FM9 document that uses the Symbol font. When he saves the document as PDF, without converting CMYK to RGB, one instance of a character in this font appears in the PDF as a different character in the same font. Other instances of the same character in the same document are fine. Saving as PDF changing CMYK to RGB produces correct results.
      Does this sound like the usual don't-use-CMYK-and-Save-as-PDF-with-FM9 type of problem? Or should we look for something else?
      Minor variations of the document cause the problem to go away:
    1. Deleting some earlier instances of characters in this font cause the problematic one to appear as expected.
    2. Some characters in this font occur in tables. Converting those tables to paragraphs "fixes" the problem.
    3. Saving as PDF under Win 7 from FM10 and FM 11 produces expected results.
      We have only seen the problem on a Win 7 system. On Vista and XP, we get correct results. Editing the document on Vista and saving it as PDF on Win 7, however, fails. A MIF wash does not fix it. Deleting and reinserting the problematic character or the table row in which it occurs does not fix it. While the original document was structured, removing structure did not fix it. Nor did changing master pages.
      We started with a longer document and repeatedly deleted content until we had a much shorter document that fails. Somewhere along the line, the erroneous character changed
      We can change the documents for this project to convert CMYK. I just don't know if doing so simply masks one particular instance of a general problem, or if CMYK is the real problem.
      Thoughts?
         --Lynne

    Lynne,
    The FM9 and first versions of FM10 (fixed with the 10.0.2 patch) had very buggy behaviours if the SaveAsPDF to CMYK option was used. Many fonts (notably OTF Pro and WGL-TT fonts) would drop characters or even entire blocks of text. The RGB option worked properly. The underlying cause was in part to due to using the old Unix Level1 PS header code for the postscript headers in the CMYK mode.
    If the client still has to use FM9 and needs proper CMYK, then I would highly recommend that they use Jacob Schäffer's PubliPDF (now on a GPL license, i.e. a freebie). This maps the postscript RGB output colours to CMYK via user specified settings before invoking Distiller.
    It can be downloaded from here: http://design.grafikhuset.dk/index.php/kontakt/downloads/grafikhuset-publi-pdf

  • How can i do different colors for the category in business graphics

    Hi everybody,
    i have a business graphics and i need different colors for the category. my business graphics is a gantt.
    for example
    category1
    category2
    category2
    and so on.
    Is there a solution for this? How can i do it?
    Best regards,
    Markus

    Sorry.
    In my opinion, this requirement can not be resolved.
    Generally, we use Business Graphic with Category, we just follow:
    DATA:lr_graph TYPE REF TO cl_wd_business_graphics.
    lr_graph = cl_wd_business_graphics=>new_business_graphics(
        bind_series_source = 'NODE_DYN'
        chart_type = cl_wd_business_graphics=>e_chart_type-BARS
        height = 340
        width = 750
    *     BIND_TOOLTIP = 'GRAPH.TT'
        id = 'GRAPH' ).
    DATA: lr_bgr_cs TYPE REF TO cl_wd_category.
    lr_bgr_cs = cl_wd_category=>new_category(
    view = wd_this->mr_view
    bind_description = 'NODE_DYN.CATEGORY').
    lr_graph->set_category( lr_bgr_cs ).
    If we go to SE24, to check  the class "CL_WD_CATEGORY", we cannot find any method  or attribute about how to manipulate  the "Category Font Color"...
    Maybe,any other expert can give you fantastic solution, hope. Best wishes.

  • Apex fop add ttf fonts

    Hello, Im solving problem with PDF printing in Apex 4.1.1 and fop 0.93 running on oc4j . There is problem with some characters displayed as “#” in output pdf. This usually means the selected font doesn't have a glyph for the character.
    I have studied apache fop reference where is written that I can add custom fonts. But I cant realize how to modify apex_fop.jsp to add ttf fonts.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi
    Some times ago I created fop module with polish characters. It was hard work.
    1. I used free true type fonts with special characters
    2. I created metric files based on this fonts
    3. Connected to config files
    4. Rebuilded some jsp page
    5. Changed apex reports print templates
    You can read it on my blog (only polish version ): http://apex.dbe.pl/search?q=fop there is files to download with readme.
    Probably you can't use it with APEX Listener 2

  • Making a TTF font file from set of SVG images

    Hi,
    I produced a large set of Egyptian Hieroglyph outlines in SVG file format and I would like to produce a TTF font file using these images ( http://www.qsl.net/5b4az/pages/egypt.html ).
    Is there an application or some other way to consolidate these SVG image files into a TTF font file please? Without having to import them one at a time? (there is 1070 of these!)
    My thanks in advance.

    thisoldman wrote:I've looked into this and there is no easy way to be found.  But I did find this python script: http://tinkerhouse.net/log/python-fontf … a-godsend/.
    Thank you, I will see if I can modify it for my needs.
    For fonts with good selections of Egyptian hieroglyphs, you might look at NewGardiner.ttf, http://www.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/~mjn/egy … diner.html, and Aegyptus.otf, http://users.teilar.gr/~g1951d/.
    I actually produced all these hieroglyph images by extracting the glyphs from Aegypus.otf into individual pgm image files and editing in the Gimp.  I did this for the basic Gardiner set and the extra hieroglyphs suggested in the NewGardiner font. But as I put a lot of effort into retouching all these images, I would like to assemble them into a ttf font file. Just a thought.....

  • Load TTF font ???

    hi,
    i'am trying to distribute with my application an external font.it's loading correctly but nothing appear on screen :/
    JLabel label = new JLabel("Hello World");
    FileInputStream stream = new FileInputStream("c:\\LED.ttf");
    Font f = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT,stream);
    label.setFont(f);
    does it's possible to set a font that is not in normal system path ?
    vincent.

    I once did it like that for a special font used via a label. It works for both file system and jar files:
    public class CSpecialFontLabel extends JLabel {
         private static final String URL_FONT = "appl/gui/font/ariblk.ttf";
         private static Font m_font;
         public CSpecialFontLabel(int style, int size) {
              loadFont();
                  setFont(m_font.deriveFont(style, size));
          * Draws the version info.
         public void paint(Graphics g) {
              Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g;
              g2d.setRenderingHint(
                   RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING,
                   RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
              super.paint(g);
          * Loads the font for the version info
         private void loadFont() {
              if(m_font == null) {
                try {
                        InputStream is = this.getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(URL_FONT);
                        m_font = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, is);
                        is.close();
                   } catch (Exception e) {
                        // loading font failed -> use std. Font
                          m_font = new Font("Arial", Font.ITALIC | Font.BOLD, 60);
    }

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and TTF Fonts and CS4

    Hi Folks,
    Many posts here of folks with crashing issues in PS4 and Snow Leopard have revolved around "fonts". Did I read somewhere here that TTF fonts were possibly and issue here?
    Reason I ask is that I just ran Fontbook and selected "all" fonts then validate. I came up with about 30 warnings all marked .ttf. Should I check these and them remove them?
    Jim

    My experience is that there are certain .ttf fonts that are great in Windows but not at all compatible with Mac, and they can cause issues with software that uses fonts.
    Case in point:
    I have two PCs and a MacBook. I have virtually Identical software suites on them all (Office, CS4, PSElements, Full sets of browsers). I also have a font library of around 5,000 fonts.
    Until last month, I just ran them all from the system fonts folder.  On the PCs, this lead to slooooooooooooowwwwwwwww running in all of CS4 and Word in Office especially when I had to change a font.
    On the Mac, it kept Fireworks from launching altogether. It would just crash at the splash screen.
    Since I work from Time Machine and ghost backups, reformatting a hard drive and reloading everything is just an afternoon for me. I reloaded all three systems, this time with Suitcase Fusion to manage my fonts. It comes with FontDoctor to ID any bad fonts before setting up a library from the full set.
    On the PCs it ID'd about 35 bad fonts and I chose to eliminate them. On the Mac, it ID'd about 135. Again, I did away with them.
    End result: Office 2007 and the 2010 Beta are lightning fast now by comparison, and on the Mac, Fireworks is fully functional.
    Since the only thing I changed, was the fonts (removing bad ones from each system and using a manager to activate them) I can safely say that fonts will have an impact on your software.
    If FontBook ID'd them as bad, dump them. They'll likely cause more trouble than they're worth if you don't.
