Different margins on 'Show layout'

When I go to View/Show Layout in Pages '09, the grey area around the page shows a shorter top margin than bottom. This means that when I try to make a poster, it prints with uneven white space around it.. Changing the document margins has no effect on this. Same effect happens in word processing or layout modes. How can I make an equal amount of grey space top and bottom of the layout, and therefore an equal amount of white space when I print?

I will hazard a guess that you have an HP printer. Many of them have a non-printing margin of a half inch or more at the bottom of the page in portrait orientation or one side in landscape. Sadly, if you need to print in that area, a new printer will be necessary. Be sure to check the specs first if you go in that direction. It may be that your current printer will allow borderless printing. If so, maybe you can work around the limitation, still using the margins you want.

Different margins in the same document

So if I understand this right, the only way to have different margins in different parts of a document is to (a) set the document margins to the smallest ones needed, and then (b) break the document into sections and set the layout for each section to increase the margins to the desired point for that particular section. Right?

Partially.
There are two types of margin. The margin you set with the Document Inspector is global for the whole document. The Layout Margin that you set with the Layout Inspector is relative to that but can't be negative i.e. you can't make it smaller than the document margin as you said.
The bit where you were slightly incorrect is that you can adjust the layout either after a Section Break or after a Layout Break. Layout Breaks don't start on new page like Section Breaks so can be useful sometimes.

In Pages 5, how do I apply different margins to different section in the same document? there are is no layout break like in Pages 4.

Use the Text Format Pane, Layout Tab, Indents.
You could do the same thing by dragging the margin stops on the Ruler.

You must first set the Document Margins in the Document Inspector, Document Tab, Document Margins area. This setting is the narrowest margin that you intend to use anywhere in the document.
Then when you add a Layout Break, go to the Layout Inspector, Layout Tab, Layout Margins area and add more margin width with the settings there.
The Document Margins dictate the maximum text width (smallest margins) anywhere in the document. The Layout Margins further narrow the text area on a per-layout-region basis.

Different margin for odd and even pages

Hi there,
I am writing a book which will be printed in 2 sided paper. Therefor I will need different margin (left and right) for the odd and even pages.
How is it possible in Pages? I am using Pages 5.2 (1860).

Indesign & Xpress are professional DTP applications. They can layout pages in any order you can imagine with custom margins. They are also complex to learn & expensive in comparison to Pages.

I expect there may be cheaper 'layout' software that is capable of arranging facing pages correctly (possibly from a single pages PDF export from Pages), but I just avoid apps like Pages if I need a finer level of output control.

How do I get a different URL to show up after an email form has been submitted?

I have created a Form in DW CS5 and have some PHP server side code to mail it out.
However, once the Submit button is pressed it refreshes back to the Form - How do I get a different page to show up after the Form is submitted?
I tried using a behavior - onSubmit - go to URL - that gets me to the page I want to go to but I guess it overrides the PHP Form Action because the email will not send.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In my form - I have tried inserting a hidden field with the Value set to the redirected page I want to go to
     <input type="hidden" name="MM_insert" value="http://www.website.com/page" />
In my form Action PHP Include - I have inserted a header function with the redirected page I want to go to
     mail($to, $subject, $body, $headers);
     header('http://www.website.com/page');
I have also checked for empty/extra spaces at the start and end of my php tags
None of the above has got me to the redirected page I want to go to after the submit button is selected - the Form page continues to refresh.
Any other suggestions on where I am missing the point would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

Different margins in PDF after upgrade to Office 2013

Hi,
I moved from Windows XP and Office 2000 to Windows 7 and Office 2013. In both cases I used Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (Adobe printer) for creation of PDF from Excel.
Why are PDF files created from Excel 2013 with different margins in comparission with Excel 2000? On preview they looks same on both computers but after printing via same Adobe printer (AA 9 pro) output is slightly different.

One issue might be due to the Acrobat 9.x product family not being coded for support of Office 2013.
As well Acrobat 9's support for Windows 7 was (I've thought) somewhat dicey.
Understandable as the Acrobat 9.x product family was headed for end of life/support when Win 7 came out.
As of June 2013 the Acrobat 9.x product family passed into end of life / end of support.
So, if you are in a contemporary OS and MS Office suite you may want to consider moving into Acrobat XI.

Is it possible to have different margin settings for odd and even pages?

Hi guys.
I am formatting a book I want to get printed and it would be very helpful to have different margin settings on the odd and even pages so the text won't fall too close to the gutter (as happened in the proof copy I ordered!).
It's possible to do this on Word, but I can't seem to do it on Pages? Am I missing something?

How to bring 3 different Sample CSS style sheets into 3 different areas of DW Layout?

I added the 3 sample css style sheets I want to use into my site. Now I am trying to bring a different sample css into different sections of the layout. Example:
Sidebar 1: green/yellow
Sidebar 2: red/yellow
Middle: blue/yellow
I seem to only be able to have one for the whole page. Is this true?
What I am doing is clicking on the div tag: <div.sidebar#sidebar1>, then "Edit CSS" and then scroll down in the Class window to "attach style sheet" and there at the bottom is a link to the sample css style sheets. I click on the one I want and it changes the css for the whole page not just the sidebar 1. Is there a way I can get a different css sample style sheet for each sidebar in a 3 column layout, and a different sample css for the middle?

You can't bring 3 of the sample CSS style sheets together because there are defined areas like tables and lists and paragraphs that are just being redefined. Then what happens is the browser picks (usually the last set) the instructions it wants to use to display the content. The only way around this is to save a copy of the 3 CSS documents and open them at the same time. Then use one as your master which will be linked to the page and grab colors from the other CSS documents.

Contact info for different contacts is showing up in wrong contact person's fields!

Recently switched from mobileme to iCloud. Now, not only do old (formerly deleted) contacts show up on my iphone & ipad, but a lot of the contact information seems to have randomly merged with each other. So that for my contact Ash, it shows her phone number and a different contact's address and email address!
How did this happen and how can I fix this? Different info for different contacts is showing up in wrong contact person's fields! Random information is showing up all over the place, so that in order to fix it manually, I'd have to scroll one by one on my phone and then try to figure out if the random incorrect contact info still shows up for the contact it belongs to. I'd rather not have to do this!
* my iPad & iPhone have iCloud, not my macbook.

Iweb show layout perfect, but when I publish it is different

I have a website that I have had no problems with. Recently I redid all my pages and gave them an updated look. What I have on Iweb is perfect, but when I publish the site I have stuff in different places, it un-centers things, it leaves lines out, it won't show pictures, etc. The really wierd thing is that the front page is just like I want, but the if you go to my store front and then into the neoprene page it gets totally out of whack. Is it me copying an pasting things that is causing the problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

Why don't you embed your Video of 170’ Single Cut into your page via the YouTube snippet rather than linking to it. It takes the viewer away from your site which might distract them. This demo page has examples of embedding YouTube videos: Adding YouTube Videos.
Also it appears you've used non web safe fonts and converted the text boxes to image files (the two light gray paragraph boxes on the main page is that way and the entire box is a web link. Doing that will increase the load time of a page.
Your neoprene page is messed up because it's missing a quite a few files. How are you uploading the site to your server? I suggest you publish to the Desktop and use an ftp client like Cyberduck (free) to upload just the contents of the site folder to the server. That will eliminate the double thenightmare13.com in the URL field.
You can see which files are missing by typing CommandOptionA while viewing the page. The Activity window will come up with a list of all the files for your site (and any other sites that are in tabs).
It's obvious that you probably will have a lot of visitors who use PCs and Internet Explorer. You might look at Roddy's site, iWeb for Musicians, for tips on making a site more compatible with IE which is a terrible browser. Some of the link are:

Check with friends who are using PCs and see how well they view the site. Then you may want to try some of the tips.

Form letter: different margin to 1. and 2. page?

Is there any possibility to build a form letter with different layout of the margin of the first and the following pages of the letter?

I think you can use the report package function "SRW.GET_PAGE_NUM(variable)" to get the page number and then control the layout as you wanted.

How to set different margins for a single document?

I'm creating a Pages document that will be exported to PDF.
On text pages I need to set margins on all sides, but for photo pages I want the margins completely removed.
What would be the best way to do this?

The best way would be to choose either *Layout mode* which is free form layout except for headers and footers, or to use *Word Processing* mode but make all your Photos in Floating imageboxes which can be placed wherever you like.

PDF version different than what shows in Metadata

USUALLY, when I open the metadata of a pdf, the version shows in the first few characters (1.2, 1.3, 1.4, etc)

I've come across a couple pdfs that SAY 1.4 in the metadata, but when opened with adobe reader they say pdf version 1.5! Which is correct? Is there a more efficient way to look for the pdf version?
Here is an example:
The metadata says version 1.4-
%PDF-1.4%âãÏÓ14 0 obj<</Linearized 1/L 140724/O 16/E 131916/N 1/T 140412/H [ 452 172]>>endobj
But when I open in adobe, the version says 1.5- (Seen in Document Properties)
Can someone help?

The file can be tagged one thing and the pdf can conform to a different standard. Open the pdf file in a text editor (not a word processor), the first line should be a good indicator of what standard the file conforms to.
