Different Music on different devices

I have both an iPad and an iPhone as well as a very large music collection.   Each of my Apple devices has different storage capacities.   I have already told iTunes that should only download selected songs to my Apple device.   Because of different storage capacities, I cannot hold the same  amount of music on each device.  I am forced to the lowest common denominator.
Is there a way to be more selective when transferring music?   It would be helpful to make selections global and then be able to refine selections for my iPhone versus my iPad.

Hello brmeeke,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with managing your music on your iPad and iPhone.  Have you tried making separate playlists for each device and just syncing over that specific playlist?
The article below outlines ways to sync multiple devices with one computer.  I recommend using the method of making a separate playlist for each device for the situation you described:
Sync devices to playlists
You may use multiple devices on a computer without creating multiple user accounts. To do this, you can set iTunes to update each device with only certain playlists. This method allows you to put all your music on, for example, your iPod and keep your iPod shuffle updated with only your workout music. Here's how to do this with iTunes:
Create new iTunes playlists on Mac and Windows that contain all the music you want to sync to each device.
Sync your device.
Note: iTunes for Windows does not support syncing multiple iPod devices at the same time.

Can someone indicate the way to proceed?

    Hi,
You can't use family sharing or multiple Apple IDs with iTunes match.
ITunes match is only attached to Apple id that you used to subscribe.

  • HT201269 Can I sync my music from two different devices if I have two different e mail addresses and apple ids? If so how?

Can I sync or merge my music from two different devices if I have two different e mail addresses and apple ids? If so how?

Yes, if you choose the Erase and Sync option (or restore your iPod) you will be allowed to sync your iPod with the new computer.
If you would like to save the content that's currently on your iPod, see this older thread from another forum member Zevoneer discussing the different ways to copy the content on an iPod back to your PC.

  • How to prevent an encrypted backup from being restored to a different device?

If I force an employee to do an encrypted backup (which I can do with a configuration profile), and that employee is fired. We take back the company iphone, but they go and buy a personal one. They connect the new, personal iphone to itunes and do a restore of the encrypted backup (they know the password) and now they have all the work related stuff on their personal phones. Is there a way to prevent an encrypted back from being restored to a different device id.

We require encryption of our employee backups as well...and the problem you mention is a real one.....
If you use Exchange, you could disable Exchange Active Sync to prevent them from subsequently connecting to Exchange Server and getting new data with the new personal device....but you would still have the old data as part of the backup...the other issue is that we've found that the profile is part of the backup and if an employee leaves, even on good terms, if he wants to restore say, his music from the backup without the profile, it becomes quite awkward...the profile would have to be removed, ( which removes everything added with the profile, possible email and wi-fi), then the user could backup music etc  with iTunes, then return the corporate phone to be salvaged or re-deployed...and later put his personal data back on another device without the profile...if there is a way around the issue you bring up I'd like to know of it as well. .  Perhaps there is an MDM with functionality that would help here....that is one great strength of the Blackberry platform..all corporate data can be controlled from the BES server.

  • How do I select a playlist to copy onto my devices?  On the older version, I could click on each list, then check "sync only checked playlists" and I'd have different playlists on different devices.  How do I do it with this version?  Thank you!

How in 12.1.0.50 can I select a playlist to copy onto my devices from my iMac?  On the older version, I could click on each list, then check "sync only checked playlists" and I'd have different playlists on different devices (iPhone 6, iPod nano).  How do I do it with this version?  Thank you!

    Same way.
Select the device, click Music tab and select the playlists to sync.

  • Bookmark BAR on different devices w/iCloud

Hey guys, this is probably very simple but I can' t figure it out. I want to be able to sync my specific BOOKMARK BAR on 4 different devices (MAC, PC, iPad and iPhone).
I'm able to sync my bookmarks, thats great. But the BAR seems to change on each or I see several BOOKMARK BAR folders in the bookmarks but some are empty and none of it makese sense which to use.
At the end of the day, I just want the same bar on all my devices.

You can choose to use iCloud for syncing iCal, contacts, etc and NOT for syncing  iTunes and other purchases if you prefer to do it that way... There is an option in the iCloud device settings  to continue syncing the old way, by connecting to your 'Mother Mac'.
Personally, I'm going to choose to do things this way, as much of the music that's on my Mac was not bought on iTunes, so won't sync thru icloud anyway.
If you choose to go this way, use your current MobileMe username if you have one ([email protected]) and password... NOT your Apple ID (if it's different, as it is for many folk) .

  • Replacing iTunes library on existing PC to match different device

I recently switched from using a PC that had my Nano listed as the device to another PC which had a different device and library associated. How can I make my library & device the default on this PC? All of my library is on the Nano and I did the Transfer Purchases option, but any of the music that was loaded from my cds is not available on the computer at this point.

You can manually manage or you can sync by playlist/artist/album/genre/checked songs.
Maybe you should read the manual:

Is there a way to make a smart "playlist" of specific books in my iTunes library, and copy ONLY THOSE books to an iOS device? I own an iPad and an iPhone but I want different books on each different device. When I've tried this, the iOS devices don't seem to respond.

There is no playlist for iBooks, butther eis nothing to preent you from choosing to download specific titles from itunes, or syncing just specific titles to an individual device.

  • Installing the program in 2 different devices

    Hi!
My name is Farbod Azima and Im a student of NYFA.
I love Photoshop and all of Adobe's creative programs! They are all amazing!
I plan to purchase the Creative Suite after I am done with the Creative Cloud program which I have to pay monthly for.
    My question is simple:
Once I purchase the Creative Suite, which includes Photoshop that I like using, Will I be able to install it on my primary PC desktop And my Windows8 Surface PRO Tablet?
I would really like to have all my Adobe programes installed in both devices so I can work on stuff on-the-go when im not around my PC desktop by using my Windows8 Tablet.
Will I be able to do this?
I can understand if I cannot use both devices at the same time, which I dont plan to anyways since I'll only be using my Windows8 Tablet when im away from my Desktop.
But I would HATE to have to buy the Creative Suite TWICE just to be able to use it on 2 Different Devices!

    Question ANSWERED!
I found out you CAN have all Adobe programs you OWN on both devices at once.
If you do want to install it on a 3rd computer, you have to uninstall on one of the other 2 computers.
    Which I find Fair.
Also I found out that if your harddrive CRASHES and you HAVE to re-install EVERYTHING, you can
contact Adobe customer serivce and they will help you re-install it fresh so you are NOT entirely F###ed.
This is Great! I Trust Adobe 100% now as a Company that cares for their customers and their saftey.
I totally will recommend more of my fellow filmmaking class mates to purchase Adobe products.

  • 1 app, 3 devices, 1 iCloud - how can I run the same game on different devices?

My wife and I share one iTunes account and one iCloud account for 2 iPhone 5's and an iPad.  Our home laptop is a PC running windows 7.  We are not able to both play the same game (specifically Carcassone) at the same time on different devices which is frustrating, how can I make this happen?  Do I need two separate accounts?  Can I have two accounts with a PC?  We don't want to sacrifice the photostream to get it though.
    Thank you,
    Jacob

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

  • Linking different devices with the same Apple ID

I was wondering if there is a way to link different device to connect and push to each other within the same Apple ID. For example I have and iPad 2, iPhone 4 and MacBook Air. While my mom has an iPad, iPhone and uses our Mac desktop. My sister has her own iPod and so does my brother. We all use the same Apple ID to save money and make things easier. Is there any way to connect our own devices. It become inconvenient when games start downloading on my device or inappropriate songs I download go onto my sisters as she is 9. If there is no way to do this, would it be hard to ask for the ability for me (under the same Apple ID as my mom, brother and sister) to set it up so my devices push to each other. Meanwhile my mom could connect her device together? Thank you to anyone who helps in advance.

Up to 5 devices can share the same Apple-ID for iCloud and share / sync happily. You can selectively disable or enable components to sync or not, using the icloud controlpanel on Windows, the system preference pane in Lion or the settings->icloud in iOS5.
You just must ensure that all devices and machines run the compatible versions of OS and apps.
    Macs : Lion 10.7.2 + iphoto latest
PCs : Vista / Win7 with Outlook, itunes 10.5 and icloud controlpanel
    iDevices: iOS5
