  • Acrobat XI Windows 7 - unable to (copy and) paste form fields to a different pdf.

To maintain a consistent appearance and function in the forms I create for various departments, I copy a few form fields  (text, checkboxes) from an unrelated Acrobat PDF. Then I paste those fields into a different PDF document that I am making fillable.
I do this because Acrobat does not allow setting a default for certain attributes when creating form fields, i.e. an unchecked scroll option, a default font other than Helvetica (in Acrobat 8, 9, and X). Plus it is time-saving to copy and paste fields that are the same in another PDF, like name, address, phone. etc.
We just updated to Acrobat XI and Windows 7 and now I cannot paste copied fields onto a different PDF.
Using "replace pages" is not applicable as I am pasting to an entirely different form and copying form fields with the settings I use.
Is this a glitch or is something new that was not in Acrobat 8, 9, and X?
Also, question regarding this forum entry -  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5638333#5638333 - which is somewhat different from my current question.
The PDF creator could not paste copied fields on other pages of the same PDF. Was this ever resolved so that copy and paste worked as it has for the last 3 versions of Acrobat?
    Thanks!
    Joanie

Gilad:  You're right: when the fields are different, such as a checkbox and a text field, and you try to title them the same, Acrobat gives you a message. I received no messages, the field names are not the same or I missed one and Acrobat is no longer messaging about it.
My question is different. Acrobat XI will not let me paste any field copied from a different PDF.  I've been doing that for 5 years in three different versions.  Maybe Acrobat XI has a new process for that, which I could not find in Acrobat help. Maybe it's because all forms now have extended rights automatically in Acrobat XI and there is another method to copy common fields to other PDFs.
Any thoughts about the new Acrobat XI? It's different in many good ways, but different.
    Thanks for your ideas.

  • Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3

Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
    I have the following problem:
When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).
    ·Photoshop CS3
    ·InDesign CS3
·Test image is a TIFF in CMYK Fogra 27 Coated (which is also the working color space in Ps and ID.
    ·Printer: Xerox Docucolor 3535
    ·Printer profile: ISO Coated
How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).
    Thanks a lot!

RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

  • Save a PDF when others have it open.

I administor a library of different pdf documents that others (about 200 co-workers)only need to view. How do I set up these documents for a "READ ONLY" capability, so that I can update the documents when I need to? Currently, I have to try and update when no one else is looking at these documents, and that is very difficult. Is there a way to do this in Acrobat 7 that someone can explain?

You could use a true Intranet, where opening a file in a browser does
    not lock the original.

  • Possible to overwrite a pdf when in use or open a pdf without holding/locking the file for update

Possible to overwrite a pdf when in use OR alternative open a pdf without holding/locking the file
We frequently generate pdf files from our 3D program and would like to know if it's possible to either open a pdf file in a way that it doesn't get locked or hold up so the pdf can be updated even when opened or in use.
Most programs e.g. ultra edit & notepad will let go the file when you opened and hence the file can be updated or over written even when in use.
If any guru can help, would be highly appreciated

    Hi Abbas,
It's not possible to overwrite a pdf when it is already in use by a different program or user. The file then opens up in Read Only mode.
You can make a copy of the file and then apply those changes later in the original file. That's the only possible solution.

  • Saving InDesign booklet pages to different pdf files

I created an 8-page booklet in InDesign (layout, letter-half). I'd like to save the project to two different pdf files: one pdf for pages 1, 2, 7 and 8, to be printed on a color printer, and one pdf for pages 3,4,5, and 6 to be printed in black and white. Printing would be two-sided 1 & 8, 2 & 7, and so on. When I converted the .indd file to pdf, I could not determine how to save these specific page ranges. Help?
    Thanks,
    Doreen

I am in Adobe, under the Extract options. What do I specify. Right now it says:
    FROM Spread 1 of 4 - Pages(8, 1) TO Spread 1 of 4 - Pages(8, 1) OF 4
    What do I type in for this to be 1 & 8 plus 2 & 7 (which would then be printed out double-sided) and 3 & 6 plus 4 & 5 (also double-sided printing).
    As a back-up with manual double-sided printing, I'd also like to create 1 & 8, 2 & 7, 3 & 6, and 4 & 5 as separate pdf files.
I checked off "extract pages as separate files"
    thanks,

  • Merging blackchannels of different PDFs

Would anyone know if there any means of merging the blackchannels of two different PDFs?
The problem is we are working on a catalogue wich must be produced in 15 languages. Working in layers in Indesign makes the file very heavy, working with different files per language gives great risks regarding the photo's and illustrations. Therefore i though abouth making several PDFs: one with the artwork and 15 others with only the text. The i would like to combine the black of the artwork-PDF and the black of the text-PDF into one PDF for production. So i would have 15 PDFs with the artwork at exact the same places.

It's hard to provide very specific information, because a lot of choices are involed, but I'll try to list what I might do with work such as what you're describing:
If you're wanting to print at a final PPI of 355, that works out to a final target pixel count of 4.375 inches x 355 pixels/inch -by- 6.125 inches x 355 pixels/inch, or 1554 by 2175 pixels.  Personaly I'd probably do the master work at at least double that pixel count in each dimension, or 3108 x 4350 pixels.  Working at an upsampled resolution has a lot of advantages if your computer has sufficient capacity.
Then I'd ask the photographers to submit their work at moderately high resolution, for example, as at least 20 megabyte files (which implies at or more than about 6 megapixels = 3000 x 2000 pixels).  Specifying file sizes in "megabytes" is a common photographic practice; they should know what you want and they'll ask for exceptions if they can't provide images at the megapixel count you're requesting.  Of course, you'll have to use your judgment about whether they're acceptable at any size submitted, and you can choose to transform them as needed.  Maybe in the end for a particular image you might throw away a lot of that resolution by making an image much smaller in your layout, but at least you didn't come up short on resolution and detail if/when you really needed it.
During the work and when you're all done with the layout, save your master file as a .psd at the full resolution, then create a downsized image for printing using the Image Size function with [ ] Resample to reduce your image to the final output resolution of 355 pixels/inch, and the 4.375 x 6.125 inches size.  Save this in a different file, compatible with the printing requirements.
These are just some examples of the choices you might make.  I hope it helps with your understanding.

  • Pdf cannot be processed. uplod a different pdf

When I try to upload a pdf, I get the message "Thispdf cannot be processed.  Please upload a different pdf."  Why?

I've the same issue. I'm using forms central to build an interactive Training Manual with fillable excercises. I prepared several "training modules" (each one is a multipage PDF, exported from Indesign CC2014, with a lot of fillable forms) and only one of these modules get this unspecified error.
What kind of PDF feature (or form-building error!) can generate problem like this?
    Thank you.

  • Problem creating several image maps (linking to different pdf files) RoboHelp 8

    Hi,
I have a problem creating several image map hotspots (that link to different .pdf files), from the same image using RoboHelp 8 HTML (WebHelp project).
After compiling, the first image map hotspot created, opens the .pdf file correctly.  Unfortunately, when clicking on the other image hotspots, I get an error " Cannot find file...<file path>... Make sure path or Internet address is correct".

    Can anyone help?

How can I combine different pdf files in one?
created by Sara.Forsberg in Adobe PDF Pack - View the full discussion
    Hi Flávia,
Adobe PDF Pack is an online subscription--it definitely allows you to combine several files into one PDF file. For more information about PDF Pack, see Reliably Create PDFs, Convert PDFs, & Merge PDFs Online | Adobe PDF Pack. If you don't have the full version of Acrobat, this is a great solution for combining PDF files.
However, if you're using Acrobat (not Adobe Reader), you combine files by following these steps:
Open a PDF file that you want to add pages to.
Click the Pages pane on the Tools panel (on the right side of the application).
Click Insert From File, and choose the file that you want to combine with the PDF that you opened in step 1.
Make any changes necessary in the Insert Pages dialog box--these settings determine where the new file will be inserted.
    Click OK.
Please let me know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

You could just try changing your Input Sources under System Preferences>Language & Text:
But I kind of doubt that's going to work. It may be a hardware problem or a system problem. If you take it into Apple they might be able to determine which and might advise a reinstallation of System software. I would take it to an Apple Store or an AASP but, first, make sure that you have a backup just in case they suggest a clean install of the system.
    Good luck,

  • Lots of different errors when using Maps on Linux, help?

I'm trying to use Maps in one of my programs, but for some reason I get all sorts of different errors when compiling.
I've tried both my own (very) simple tests of it and also I've copied and pasted the code straight out of the official tutorials.
//Edit: Ok, I've tried it on several different IDEs, and Netbeans (on both Linux and Windows) and JCreator(on Windows) both work now for whatever reason. The only one I still have problems with is below.
Here some of the errors I get, and nothing is making sense.
On a Linux machine, using a simple IDE (Geany):
    MapTest.java:6: not a statement
    Map<String, Integer> m = new TreeMap<String, Integer>();
    ^
    MapTest.java:6: ';' expected
    Map<String, Integer> m = new TreeMap<String, Integer>();
    I don't know why it isn't working.

What do IDEs have to do with this? It's a compiler error.
Do you import java.util.Map and java.util.TreeMap?
Are you using JDK 5 or higher? Generics didn't appear in Java until JDK 5.

Is it possible to save a PDF document in the database as a blob column and to retrieve the PDF when clicking on the link

    Hello Andy,
This Upload and Download Files is very useful feature in APEX.
However, is there a way of displaying PDF files first in the report by clicking the corresponding link
    in the table?
I mean, is it possible to view PDF files first by clicking the link before deciding to download them?
As we see, this approach is used by most websites and after opening and viewing a PDF file, we can save them.
    Thanks.

If the previous Safari suggestion doesn't work try the following:
