Different powered chargers

I notice that there are three different powered chargers that i can buy, 45W, 60W and 85W. Is it necessary to use a certain powered one depending on what mac Mac I am going to be powering? Or can I use an 85 watt one with any Mac? If so, why would they even sell the lower power one (I am assuming that and 85W charger would charge twice as fast as a 45W charger...)?

I have a Linksys router with iTunes running on my PC which I can send a signal out to my living room AP express to recieve my iTunes @ my powered speaker. I now have added another AP express in my bedroom along with another powered speaker. Is it possible for iTunes to "broadcast to all", or are we stuck selecting "My Computer" or one of your powered speaker sets?

  • Brand New MBP 15 RD, no Org/Grn light on MagSafe2 - unable to start MBP as battery is completely drained out! Won't charge with 2 different MgS2 chargers! Help/ideas?

I bought a brand new Macbook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013) model. After unpacking, I plugged in the MagSafe2 power adaptor to the MagSafe2 port and everything looked fine.
However, after charging the battery to 100%; I disconnected the MagSafe2 power adaptor. When the battery charge percentage fell to below 25%, I reconnected the MagSafe2 power adaptor and noticed that the Orange light (indicating that the battery is being charged) was not lit.
Furthermore, when I let the battery die out to 0%; the battery won't recharge and neither an Orange or Green light on the MagSafe2 power adaptor. I had bought a spare adaptor for work and the same issue with this MagSafe2 power adaptor. So it was certain that the problem wasn't with the MagSafe2 power adaptor but rather with the MagSafe2 port on the Macbook Pro!
I took the Macbook Pro and MagSafe2 power adaptor to the local authorized Apple Service Provider who decided to hold onto my gear for 3-4 days to ascertain the source of the problem! Unfortunately no Apple Retail Stores or Genius Bars in the country that I live in.
All in all, very frustrating to know that your brand new Macbook Pro costing USD 3,300 is faulty straight out of the box!

    You said:

    Do they still have it?
From your indications there is a faulty IO board
Contact Apple for return options given your location issue and no proximity to an Apple shop.
    Peace to you.

  • Trouble with Migration: two identities with different "powers"

I am migrating from an old PowerBookG4 to a MacBook. The PowerBook is failing, so I couldn't insert and install the migration disc, as it recommends because it just quits when i try to install it,  however Migration is on the computer, and seems to be the same version. (I crashed last year, and may have been installed then by the guy who repaired it) Anyhow, I made the mistake of starting the migration via. airport, realized my mistake and force quit. The MacBook then had me set up a new identity, which I did... oops? Then, I connected the Ethernet cable, and migrated again. There are now two "identities". One is running all the old stuff from my old computer. and then there's the new identity. One has all the new features, like the handy-dandy new scroll pad... and the old one doesn't. However, the old one can open any Excel file, and the new one can't.... WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?  I should mention, I also installed a new version of Office:Mac. Shall I throw them both out and start all over again? Is that possible? I have no problem doing that if it's possible.

  • Reasons for 2 different Wall chargers?

New macbook owner here. whats the deal with the power adapter? one connection to the wall can simply be latched onto the white square, im sure you know what im talking about. like an ipod wall charger.
the second is the most traditional one when it has a long cable connecting to the wall and then to the white apple square thing.
whats the point of each one? is the longer one for better home and the small connecting one most portable? if this is the case which charges better? no difference? whats the deal? im so confused!

  • What's up with iPhone 3G car chargers?

I have two different car chargers that work fine with my 32 gig iPod Touch and other iPods. However when I hook them up to my new iPhone 3G I get a message that says the charger is incompatible with the iPhone 3G and will not charge it. It appears that the iPhone 3G requires a special car charger. BTW, I have not experienced this with the AC charger or (of course) the USB to Mac charger.
Have any of you experienced this and if so I would love to hear your input.
    Ken

Charging via FireWire with older iPods was popular with car charger manufacturers - FireWire accepts 12V - straight from the car. When Apple removed FireWire charging, they kept with USB which is 5V. That requires car chargers to convert 12V to 5V. This costs money.

  • Alternative power chargers for Portege Z830

    Hello,
I 've got PORTEGE Z830-11M and with original 45W, 19V *PA3822U-1ACA* AC Adapter.
Can I use for charging it also more powerful 75W, 19V original TOSHIBA *PA3468E-1AC3* adapter, which I have on the other location?
Is it good for z830 or not and why? The only difference between them is power, I suppose more is better (less heat for charger) or not?
    Thank you for answers.
    Tomo

Brixx, thank you for answer, but I still don't know, why TOSHIBA service says that I should use exactly PA3822U-1ACA AC Adapter.
There are many TOSHIBA types of chargers with DC 19V output connector 5.5/2.5 mm and also other brands like ASUS which with their electrical specifications fit z830 laptop.
I would say, all chargers with at least 45 W and constant 19V DC voltage and of course 5.5/2.5 mm connector would be OK. But it seems they are not. I'm interested why?
DC electric current depends on DC voltage and battery resistance. So if PA3822U-1ACA has constant DC voltage 19 V for load 0 - 45 W, why other more powerful chargers are not recomended?
Is there any electronics inside charger which comunicates with z830 laptop and limits current (adapt voltage to limit current - so 19V is not constant) ... or such electronics is inside z830?

  • IPhone 4 won't charge on any other chargers just the one it came with.

I bought my phone from ebay and it came with a charger and a wall charger. My phone will not work with any other chargers just the one it came with. The charger works, but it won't forever, when it comes time to buy a new charger I'm scared it won't work with my phone. I have used my old chargers and my sisters chargers all with different wall chargers as well and they didn't work! What is the cause of this problem?
    Please help!!

y is this iphone 4 problem in the ipad section. did u mean u got an ipad? becuase if thats the case then its entirely possible that u have an ipad adaptor and the reason its not working with the other adaptors is because they are not enough wats and they are meant for iphones. the charger used should make a difference though.

  • My lightning chargers keep breaking

I have had 5 different lightning chargers. I have to buy so many because ios 7 banned non Apple lightning chargers. Every single one of them have broken the same way. The wires come out of the main part of the charger(part that goes in iPod). Is there anyway to prevent this?

my God yes..exactly the same problem. The cables must be very poorly made as there are many other people that have the same problem. I would love to contact Apple directly but this seems to be impossible. Does anyone know how to email them to discuss this. They need to know that there is a problem . I am sick of having to spend nz $30 for yet another cable as they break after 6-8 weeks...if they last that long.
And how do you ask a new question and submit it?? i couldn't even do that.haha. Typed in my question and then had to choose a community- chose iphone 5 and then all the subcommunities were greyed out. so I can had to reply to this comment instead!

  • Emergency Chargers

I have now tried 4 different emergency chargers (inc. Ted Baker, Kensington and Gomadic) with my Ipod Touch 32Gb 2G. None of them work although the ipod charges fine when synced to my computer or through a mains adaptor. The Kensington one was even purchased through Apple where it states it is compatible with 2nd gen. This is getting hugely frustrating. Sugestions greatly appreciated. I will shortly be going on a trip and I was hoping to find some way of extending the battery life.

I suggest you take the unit back to Apple

  • Ipod touch wont charge, not being recognized by PC

Wall charger, connected to 4 different PCs, connected to a macbook, connected with 3 different chargers, I'm gettin nothing. I've watched it go from the red battery indicator and now I get nothing whatsoever if I press the power button. I've left it on the charger for days on end to no avail.
Normally I would toss it and get a new one or something, but I passed by an apple store yesterday and decided to show to them. They popped it on a charger and immediately we got it to charge, and after 5 minutes, it powered back on (of course, it died right afterwards since it was on for such a small period of time). Promptly came back home, and it didn't work at all. I'm baffled now, because either you guys have wizards working at your stores or my house hates me. Any ideas?

Yep, that's what I meant. Different wall chargers and different cables as well. Even a 3rd party cable just for the heck of it.

  • Brand new iPod Touch, won't charge!

    Hi there,
Have posted this under another topic but hope to get some more exposure here.
Just as a disclaimer, I work for a retail store in New Zealand. Have taken a returned iPod touch home to try and fix, but am stuck! This iPod still belongs to my employer however, needs to be restored to a re-sellable condition.
Basically, the iPod touch will not charge. It is forever stuck on the 'no charge' screen with the red battery symbol and the lightning bolt at the bottom. This is when it is plugged in (have plugged it in to a PC, my Mac and wall charger). When not plugged in, same symbols appear except with a plug symbol, pointing to the lightning bolt.
When plugged in, the iPod doesn't show up in iTunes or Disk Utility, same on the HP PC laptop I also tried it on.
I put the iPod into DFU mode and restored it to the latest firmware with iTunes on my Mac. However, once the iPod has finished restoring, iTunes tells me it will show up after rebooting but once the countdown has finished, the same stupid 'no charge' symbols appear.
By the way, this iPod has been left charging on two different wall chargers overnight, I have tried restoring it several times and still to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I am totally stumped.
    Cheers!

Well since it has not been charging on multiple computers i would take a look at replacing the usb cable. Something could not be connecting right or just needs to be replaced. If this has already been done it is starting to sound like a battery issue with the ipod.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Ipod not being recognized by pc

Hi all, I recieved a iPod Gen 6 30G for xmas and all is well thus far with it, however my boyfriend has an iPod 512MB which I attempted to download some music for him, however my pc is not recognizing his iPod. What do I have to do to solve my problem? Thanks for any help.

Yep, that's what I meant. Different wall chargers and different cables as well. Even a 3rd party cable just for the heck of it.

  • My MacBook Pro isn't turning on, at first it would only turn on when being plugged in by its charger and continued to stay on 0% and now it won't even turn on even when plugged into charger. What's wrong with it?

    Please help

Is this an early 2008 MacBook Pro?
I observed two of these machines work perfectly for several months (different users and workflows) with no issues and with normal shutdown. The next press of the power button is greeted by about 3 - 5 seconds of DVD click, hard disk seek, and then nothing. Different batteries, chargers, and memory chips were used with no machine revival.
As these two machines were fully depreciated employer hardware, they were scrapped, rather than provided to Apple for hardware diagnostic and likely expensive repair.

  • Ipad 2 does not show in itunes

My ipad 2 was completely dead last night so I plugged it in to charge using the 10W wall charger that came with it and noticed that it did not vibrate when I plugged it in nor did it show the lightning bolt showing it was charging. I left it alone from a few hours and when I checked, it was up to 12%. Normally a few hours will almost fully charge it. I swapped out a few different cables, chargers, and even plugged it into my mac USB, and none of them vibrated and showed the lightning bolt. When I plug it into my Mac, it does not show in iTunes at all under devices. I plugged in my iPhone and iPod and both showed instantly. I decided to leave the paid charge overnight on the wall charger to see what would happen.
This morning it was up to 53%. I updated the iPad 2 software to iOS 5.1.1, updated iTunes to 10.6.1, updated all software on my Mac (I have OS X 10.6.8) and still doesnt show in iTunes and none of the chargers or cables make it vibrate when plugged in and none show the charging bolt. I deleted iTunes and the Apple Mobile Device driver and then reinstalled thinking perhaps the mobile device driver was messed up - didnt help.
On the iPad 2, I went to settings/general/reset/reset network settings - no help.
Of course, throughout this I have reset my Mac several times, reset the iPad both by sliding the bar to shut down and by holding down the reset button & home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears, and as stated above tried several wall chargers and USB cables that works on my other i products. So I do not think its something obvious like that.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1

    ITunes 10.6.1

Let me know when you figure this out. I am experiencing the exact same situation. Just started this morning after I switched my mobileme account to icloud. I can see my iphone in itunes, but when I plug my ipad in, nothing. Not on any computer. I have always been able to sync and charge with no trouble. Now my ipad is slowly turning in to a door stop.
    Help!
    Thank you!
