Different RT versions, not compatible

Hi all!
   I'm evaluating LabView 8.5 and it's drivers.
Previously, we shiped good products with LV 7.1, RT, and fieldpoint drivers 4.  Now, I'd like to turn to 8.5.  But....
...this issues a maintainability problem! If I have LV 8.5 + FieldPoint 6.0 on my PC, and try to access old cFP-2020 with RT 7.1, I get an error.  The same happens if I have LV 7.1 and try to access a later version of RT target.
This means that each version of FieldPoint drivers is compatible only with it, on both sides of developement gear (PC side, RT-target side).
At the moment, I figure this scenario: to keep old project maintainable (i.e. going to the field, where cFP-2020 is running, and access/modify application, repair...), I have to install on my PC a virtual machine (I would use VMware for this), each machine with a complete set of tools:
   VM a:
LV 7.1
RT 7.1
MAX and drivers FiledPoint 4
    VM b:
LV 8.5
RT 8.5
MAX + FieldPoint 6
And for newer versions of labview and Fieldpoint drivers......
I cannot see a better solution, but I'd like some feedback on this.  I fear install/unistall drivers, depending on target I'm maintaining....
In my test of LV 8.5, Virtual machine works great, but I've not tested FP drivers 6 because actually I don't have new cFP to use for testing, they'll arrive soon....
Waiting opinions on this.... thanks everybody for attention

Hi all!
my aim was to try keeping exactly the same development gear for each project, and it seemed to me that FieldPoint drivers 6.0 overwrites 4.0 version.  I guess that 6.0 is back-compatible, anyway, it's better not to take risks!
I choose the VM solution because Virtual Machines work great with ethernet, maybe I'd have encountered some problems trying to map DAQmx devices, but I can't proove this.
Another advantage of VM, is that I can have Linux on my PC, and inside, a VM running XP and LabView for Windows (which has less compatibility problems than LabView for linux... ).
Thanks everybody for suggestions, I'll try what you proposed soon, since I'll be given a new PC for maintenance purposes, and that's a good chance for testing.

  • Firefox will not start (platform version not compatible)

After an automatic upgrade, Firefox no longer starts, giving an error of the form:
"Error: Platform version '1.9.2.6' is not compatible with minVersion >= 1.9.2.7 maxVersion (LT)=1.9.2.7"
I have seen several questions regarding this issue on this site but the answer given is always just to do a clean reinstall. This does fix the problem but it comes back next time I upgrade. I've had to do five clean reinstalls in a row now! Is there no better solution?

It is possible that not all files were updated to the new version.
Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • Airport Extreme Card - USA version not compatible with Europe?

I'm having some problems with the Airport Extreme Card in my Mac Mini i.e. my connection to the internet is mind numbingly slow when using it. I have no issues when I hook it up directly with a LAN cable and I've used a friends Macbook to connect to the wireless router and their connection works perfectly.
    My specs...
    AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.4.3.1
    Current Wireless Network: SpeedTouch3C84E7
    Wireless Channel: 11
Now here's where I think the problem lies, I bought this machine in the US but am now living in Belgium...you'll note that the card locale is set to USA. My friends machine has a card locale of worldwide and I think this difference is causing the issue. I found another thread that mentions using a USA card in europe limits the number of available channels but I'm still in the dark as to what to do about it.
Is the locale changeable via a software setting or is the hardware different...maybe there's a firmware change I could make?
If it's hardware is this something my Apple store can switch for me?
If I'm really stuck can I switch my router to the US settings to fix the issue?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks for the help!
    Chris

hi. I think that the only difference between USA and worldwide cards is that ww cards have additional channels (12 and 13). You should be able to use your mini in Europe.

  • App quit working, new version not compatible, am I out of luck?

I have a Touch, 1st gen. One of the apps quit working correctly. I followed troubleshooting and ended up having to delete it from iTunes. But only then did I find out that the newest version is only compatible with iOS 4, which mine can't be updated to. Am I just out of luck for being able to reacquire this app?

If you have not emptied your Windows Recycle bin (or your Mac Trash can) you should be able to recover your deleted file for the older version of the app. Once you have the *.ipa file, it is easy enough to drag/drop it on the top left pane in iTunes (where the apps are listed) and tell iTunes that yes, you want to replace the newer version with the older version you just dropped there.
Having had several bad experiences with upgrades that didn't work right, I have made it a habit of saving my older versions of apps as I download updates. I think I have about 5-6GB of saved older versions and I have actually gone back to some of them more than once.

  • Why is the latest version not compatible with 'ALOT' when the previous one was?I am trying to get back to the old version but can't manage it

    I have installed FF 5 & now wish I hadn't.
Ihave lost a very useful toolbar (alot)which was perfectly compatible with previous FF versions.
Inow need to get back to a version where I can reinstate my alot tb.There should have been an option to abort if a new version was going to be incompatible with other software.

Numbers documents from iOS need Numbers 3.2 on a Mac to open. And Numbers 3.2 requires Mavericks. If you are using Mavericks you can get Numbers 3.2 from the Mac App Store. It will be free IF you have Numbers 2 (iWork '09) installed. Otherwise you must buy it.
Your other option is to send the Numbers file as an Excel file via e-mail to yourself to open with an earlier version of Numbers.

    I have got I-phone 4 - version 7.0.4.
I can not sync my I-phone anymore.
    Thx for the help.

If it's from 2006 or later, which it sounds like it is, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If you run Software Update after you get it, it should offer 10.6.8, and if run run it again after that, it should offer iTunes 11.
If you want, you can even update all the way to OS X Mavericks (10.9), the latest release of OS X, if your iMac is from 2007 or later, which is sounds like it is. Mavericks is free but requires Snow Leopard first.

  • Versions not compatible?

I just upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6 but when I did iMail, address book, image capture and iCal couldn't be used. I get the same message:= "You cannot use this version of the application ______ with this version of Mac OS X." I would appreciate knowing how to remedy this. Thanks.

How did you do the upgrade? What Leopard 10.5.6 disk did you use?

  • Stop apps from updating if not compatible

I have an iPhone 3G, that when I purchased it (used) came jailbroken.
FINALLY someone came out with a way to remove the version I had so I could reset the phone and restore it. Afterwhich I was able to uodate it to the current iOS for the 3G, 4.2.1 and runs fine.
However, after I clicked update for my apps, half no longer worked nor would they install because not compatible with this version.
I grabbed the old *.ipa files from the recycle bin (running Win7) and installed them and seems fine again.
My question is... how do I tell iTunes to NOT recommend updates, that don't work on my phone. I thought iTunes would have done that automatically, and for years it's never been an issue. Yesterday I updated iTunes to the most current version, then reset the phone so... not certain if an issue with the phone or a setting in the newer iTunes. In any case, recommending an update, then updating to a version not compatible with my phone, doesn't seem to make sense.
    Is there a setting somewhere?
    Thanks

It didn't do that before though, is what I am saying.
iTunes never showed me updates for apps if the updates didn't work on my iOS version.
It makes no sense to have to read through a dozen apps to see what will/won't work, iTunes should know based on the version of the iOS if it will/won't work and only show available updates for apps that will.
Again, for 2yrs it always worked that way. I updated my iTunes and upgraded from iOS 4.1 to 4.2, and now it's showing me updates that only work on iOS 5 and up. So... must be a setting somewhere, or a change in the software.

    Hi vincelucy,
If you've purchased a previous version, you can download older installers from this page: Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | DC, XI, X (you'll need your serial number to complete the installation).

    What is "it"?
There are many things that affect the future development of LabVIEW, starting with NI management, all the smart people in LabVIEW development, the economy, the LabVIEW users, etc.
If you are worried about the increasing size of the distribution, the good news is that the cost of data storage and data transmission has dropped much more dramatically. Even though newer versions are bigger due to great and welcome new features, the improvements in infrastructure have actually made the distribution and storage significantly easier over the years and will continue to do so. Trust me!
