Different security between databases

I have two databases within one planning application - one for revenue/expenses and one for workforce. Is it possible to have different dimension security for each database? I'm working in Planning 9.3.1
Thanks.

Hi
are you looking for security of shared dimension members between two applications.

  • Different between database lock and sap lock

    Hi All,
What is different between database lock and sap lock why sap introduced locking mechanism.
    Thanks
    Santosh

From a database perspective, every dialog step forms a physical and logical unit:
the database transaction.. The database lock administration can only coordinate
this type of database transaction. From an SAP point of view, however, this is
not sufficient, because SAP transactions, which are formed from a sequence of
logically related work steps that are consistent in business terms, are generally
made up of several dialog steps. SAP systems need to have their own lock
management. This is implemented using the enqueue work process. This also
ensures that the platform-independence of the lock management is maintained.

  • Sharing between different Security Domains..

    Hello!
there are two different security domains and i have two applets which are under different sD.
is it possible to communicate with each other by using classic shareable interface methods.
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Hi,
I have not tried this but I cannot see any reason it would not work. The applets are still in the same JCRE context. Your best best is to set up a simple SOI that works under one SD and then try it with two.
    Cheers,

  • Interaction between Database and  Forms Developer

Can someone tell me the how can i make a successful connection between database 9i ans developers suites 9i so that i can ru them on a computer to develop applications. if there is any procedure please let me know or send me thelink. Also tell me how to install both of them i mean the order of installation. Your help will be highly appreciated!
    Thank
    Muhammad Umair

Install each one of them in a different oracle home.
Once installed you need to configure a sql*net connection from the Forms oracle home.
You can use the sqlnet easy config utility for this.

  • Propagation of security between appplications and servers

It appears that WebLogic propagates security between applications and
domains using a cookie. So as long as all applications use the same
cookie id (JSESSIONID) then a single sign-on is enabled between
    applications.
Is it correct this would apply to propagation between portal and
non-portal applications in the same clustered environment?
In a different vein, is there a way of propagating security
information between different servers or different clusters?
Say, for example, server1 (or cluster1) allows a user to sign-in and
presents a page with a link to server2 (or cluster2). We would like to
be able to propagate transparently the security information gathered
at the sign-in on server1 to the application on server2.
I'm assuming the cookie placed in the browser from server1 would not
be passed to server2. Is there a way, programmatically or otherwise,
to enable this to occur in a secure way?

    try this...as a test..
take a simple Contact ejb (as simple as you can make it, just a name and email address). In the ejb-jar.xml set up a role, for example, user, and restrict the access to only this role for all methods.
try to access the ejb from a jsp, and you should get the login form identified in your web.xml file.
make sure that the ejb is noted in the web.xml file, also.
    this should work...
no try this...identify a role in your web.xml file, (user, for example) and restrict the access to the a particular jsp which is not calling the ejb. IF you navigate to this jsp, you should get the login prompt...
    this should work....
    now the tough part
in your application.xml create a role with the same name, user. By doing this, you have created a global role, and connect the two together.
Now point your browser to the restricted jsp with no calls to the ejb...you should get the login, so login in.
now navigate to your jsp which is unrestricted, but calls the restricted ejb...
there should now be no login prompt.
    This should work.

  • How to secure our database

    Please,
Working with standard Edition as well as Enterprise edition on oracle 10g, I need to come up with some security recommendations to my boss, so, does someone give me a nice link or something else where I can grab some information to prepare the documentation?
    The environnement is on windws.
Thanks a lot for your valuable help

3360's second link is to a security checklist in the Oracle docs...
If you're looking for third party books, if you can get it, Pete Finnigan's Oracle Security Step-by-Step or David Knox's Effective Security by Design are excellent.
Be aware, though, that "securing a database" can be a huge topic depending on the precise attack vectors you're trying to thwart. I could easily rattle off a dozen different database features, products, and add-ons that are designed primarily to secure your database. Plus plenty of principles to keep in mind when you're designing secure applications. And plenty of configuration issues to deal with...

  • Why different systems between Japan and other SEA region?

    Hello
Just curious that why people maintain seperate systems for Asia (excluding SEA and JP), Japan, SEA (South East Asia), even though now all is unicode enabled?
Still, why again different systems between Japan (dedicated) and other SEA countires? (where in the Font is same)
I dont think its because of volume of business, dynamic changes in the business/governament policies!!
    Thank you

    Hi MSRaju_ABAP,
sometimes there may be security reasons.
But mostly these are management decisions which are not always as comprehensible as we hope.
I worked in a company with two system for the same business, one for back end purposes, one for customer interaction. Both machines were busy all day and night synchronizing their data

  • Data transport encryption  between Database - Apps Server

    Hi
We have 10g R2 database on Linux
and would like to setup a basic encryption for data transport between Database and Apps Server.
On searching, i found a couple of SQL ENCRYPTION parameters to be placed in SQLNET.ORA , which am not sure off.
Could anyone suggest as how should i be doing this setup?
Do i also need to be doing changes at the Apps Server side?

Check the Advanced Security Guide, specifically

  • Confussing between Database User and Application User in Discoverer

    Hi All,
    I am new to Discoverer.
Please let me know the difference between Database User and Application User in Discoverer Administrator as well as in Discoverer Desktop Editions.
    1) While I am trying to connect to Discoverer Desktop, I am unable to connect to it with Apps Database User.
    2) Where the Discoverer compenent will be installed and what the configuration settings need to done work on it.
Please let me know the answers soon.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hello
I think a database user should pretty much be self explanatory - this is a user account that exists in the database. This account is created by your Database Administrator (DBA).
The second kind of user that Discoverer understands is a user that exists inside Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), formerly known as Oracle Applications, hence an application user. This user account gets created by the EBS system administrator.
Now, just because you're using EBS, it does not automatically follow that users will be application users. Let me explain.
Discoverer can be installed in one of two modes, standard mode and Applications mode.
The vast majority of organizations use standard mode which means they allow database users to access the system.
The only time that you will need an applications account is under the following two rules:
    1. Your organization is using E-Business Suite, AND
    2. Your Discoverer administrator has installed Discoverer in Applications mode.
Applicatons mode does not happen automatically, even if you have EBS, and you cannot install that mode by accident. You have to tell Discoverer that it is operating in that mode, provide some additional EBS account information, make security assignments and set users have to deliberately tell Discoverer they want to connect using an applications account.
May I suggest you get hold of a copy of the Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook that I wrote. That book explains in detail the differences between the modes. I also have a free white paper on my website that describes how to install Discoverer into Applications mode.
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • Difference between Database, instance and schema

    Hi
I don't know the clear difference between database, instance and schema.. In the broad sense, everything seems to be the same. If anyone can differentiate between them with some example, that will be of great help.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
In Oracle, people often do use "database" and "instance" interchangeably, or together as one term: "database instance".
A "schema" is quite different. A schema is a collection of objects (such as tables, indexes or procedures). Every object belongs to exactly one schema, and every schema is a part of exactly one database. (Names may not be unique, however. For example, your database may have one schema named SCOTT, and another schema named USER1. Each of those schemas may have a table named EMP. The EMP table in the SCOTT schema, or SCOTT.EMP, is not the same as the EMP table in the USER1 schema, or USER1.EMP. A different database, my database for example, may also have schemas called SCOTT and USER1, which are completely independent of the SCOTT and USER1 in your database.)

  • Different CUOBJ between sales order item and production order

    Hi gurus,
Our SAP solution is IS Mill & Variant configuration based, we're using ECC6 as OLTP system mapped to APO PP/DS from which module we trigger the planned order into production order conversion. We're exclusively using the 2 different production type : MTO & MTS. When Sales order based (MTO), it was not possible so far to change the configuration of the production order since following Message no. CO661 was advising the data for the configuration was taken from the allocated SO:
Here is an old thread we'd posted where we were requesting further details about above message: Message CO 661 - Characteristics values were copied - you can only display
We recently upgraded SP level (SAP_BASIS) from 15 to 30 on ECC6 side, SAP Basis Component on SCM side has been remaining unchanged with release 700 level 016.
We now observe the message is unexpectively NOT raising anymore so-that the configuration can be freely adjusted; reason seem to be a different CUOBJ between the SO and its production order; please not the issue do not take place when creating the production order directly from ECC6 through CO08.
Would you please help to clarify the reason of such a behaviour? Thanks in advance.
Remark: snote 1326891 has been patched but w/o any added value as it do not really apply (= CTP not used)
    BR,
    Pascal.

    UP
Below as an illustration CUOBJ from VBAP versus CUOBJ from AFPO
Both WO have been created from APO, difference is the first one was created prior our SP level upgrade. I have to admitt CUOBJ mechanism between ECC & APO is quite unclear, below CUOBJ found when reading planned order data with FM /SAPAPO/RRP_LC_ORDER_GET_DATA (reading executed prior conversion, same outcome when reading prior its creation)

  • Transfer whole schema between databases

    Hi,
I have a question on how to move an entire schema between two databases which are of the same version and patchset.
I identified the possible methods as follows:
    1) Using exp/imp or expdp/impdp, but that's quite slow on larger schemas and the transported data might not be physically the same as on the source database (indexes are rebuilt, tables get loaded with data again....).
    2) Using transportable tablespaces. This is fast, the physical data layout is the same as on the source database, but unfortunately only the objects in the transported tablespace get transferred. Schema objects like PL/SQL packages, private synonyms, functions.... and grants aren't transferred since they are stored in the SYSTEM tablespace.
Is there any other way to move a schema between databases? Maybe some combination of expdp/impdp (transfer of user object definitions stored in the SYSTEM tablespace like PL/SQL code, view definitions, etc.) and transportable tablespaces (transfer data segments like tables, indexes....)
From what I know RMAN can't do that since the smallest "logical object" it can restore/recover is the whole tablespace with tablespace point in time recovery.
Thanks in advance for any answer.

    Jure

JureIf you have only one business schema, then you may go with duplication of database.
Otherwise, you can go with Schema Based Replication with Streams or as you said combination of expdp/impdp and transport.

Not really, but for some settings there is a workaround... ->

For THIS setting, it definitely does NOT work. The profile path must be
known BEFORE the user is logged on and this means BEFORE any user
    specific settings can be processed.

  • How can I sync security between Plannig, HSS and EAS?

    Hi,
I think that I've trouble with security. Many answers at this forum contain that I need to sync security between Plannig, HSS and EAS?
How can I do it on EPM11.1.1.3?

    Hi,
If you feel that Shared Services is not in sync with Planning then you can use the [provisonusers |http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/hp_admin/ch03s13.html] utility.
If you want to sync essbase with Shared Services you can either right click security in EAS and refresh from HSS or use Maxl.
