Different song counts on iTunes & iPhone(?)

Greetings;
I've been noticing a difference between the synched song counts that are displayed in iTunes/Devices on the "Music" tab, and the actual number of songs that are on my iPhone. Any idea why this is?

Go into iTunes, connect your iPhone, and select it in the sidebar under "Devices".  In the main browser window, click on the Music tab.  Under "Sync Music", see if it's set to sync everything or selected playlists.  That's where you tell iTunes what to sync to the iPhone.
It's also possible that your iPhone has hit its limit and cannot sync as many songs as iTunes is tasked to do.
In any case, I'd look at those two things first.
Good luck.

  • ITunes and iPod show different song counts... not all songs sync

    Hi,
I've been having this problem for many many years.
I have more than 18,000 songs now, and the song count in iTunes is always 5 higher than on the iPod.  I have my iPod set to sync the entire library.  All songs in the library are checked for sync as well.  I get no error message during sync that something might be missing, incompatible, or corrupt  When I look at iPod music in iTunes it has the wrong count as well.
Every time a new version of iTunes comes out, I send feedback to Apple regarding this issue.  As expected, Apple ignores their feedback, and from what I can tell they ignore the community forums as well, and they have yet to address the issue in any way, or even contact me about it.
I'd like to find which songs are bad and remove/delete them from my library and collection or fix them.  Is there a sync log hidden somewhere that I can check to see which songs will or won't sync?  Why doesn't iTunes tell us whether or not it expects a song to sync or if it's iPod compatible?  Why does it say less songs will sync without giving a reason why?
I've heard that iPods don't sync duplicate files, but I've looked at my duplicates.. At some point, Apple screwed that up too, it shows songs that are from different compilations as duplicates now, instead of looking at the data proper to determine if it's a duplicate, it seems to just look at the Artist and Song Title and even that doesn't seem to be correct because I have more duplicate song titles listed and in some cases it lists songs from two different artists as being duplicates.  I have many more duplicates listed in itunes than the discrepancy in the song count would suggest... 3,835 more songs to be exact.
I've tried to select only checked songs and get the same results.  I've tried to restore the iPod and I get the same results.  I've tried clearing the library completely and reloading all songs and I still get the same results.  I've scanned through the library and all songs appear to have compatible settings.   All my songs are either mp3 or m4a(aac) formats.  I don't use playlists at all.
If anyone knows of a solution, please let me know.  I don't want to have to check every single file.
    Thanks!

So that you know, for the future, Apple makes it very clear (specifically so, when you submit Feedback) that they do not respond to the feedback directly. They do however, read the feedback and consider suggestions for improvements to iPods. They also look for - and act upon - bug reports etc. That's what the Feedback is for.
They also make it clear that they do not monitor or respond to these discussions. (That said, Apple employees are free to - and do look at - some of the posts and have been known to contact posters directly when looking for further information regarding bugs.)
As you have now found, this community (as Apple now prefers to call it) can often help sort out your problems, espcecially when skilled users such as tt2 (aka Steve) are let loose!

  • Number of Songs Discrepancy between iTunes & iPhone

There are 1,437 songs in my ITunes Entire Music Library.  Due to problems I was having with my iPhone, Apple had me restore my iPhone 5S to "factory" settings and then back-up my iPhone to one of my backups before my iPhone began having problems.  My backups have had 1,437 songs for quite a long time.  Now the number of songs on my iPhone 5S has 1,348 songs. Why?  What can I do to get all my songs back on my iPhone? I tried "Transfer" purchases thinking it did not get my purchased songs, but it didn't change the number of songs.  I just purchased a new iPad Air 2 today and set it up.  It has 1,437 songs.

An easy route is to setup a Smart Playlist for each category - note 'matched' and 'uploaded' will both count towards your 25k limit, 'purchased' do not count.

  • I have 2 computers with different songs under 1 iTunes account...

I have 2 computers authorized under 1 itunes account with different songs on both computers.  I want to use the itunes match... My question is... Can i continue to upload songs not purchased through itunes for "itunes match" to sync to Icloud?  Can i do this more than once?

Connect the iPod to the computer she syncs her iPod with.  Then restore the iPod via iTunes.  If iTunes asks for the passcode and you can't enter the passcode, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    For how to restore.
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software

  • How do I view total song count in iTunes 11?  Previous versions listed total song counts at the bottom.

Does anyone know how I can view my total song count in my library in iTunes 11?  All previous versions listed the total song count in my library at the bottom.  Thanks for the help!

It sounds like the staus bar is turned off. Select view from the menu bar and enable the staus bar.

  • File Count does not match Song Count in iTunes

I started with an empty library in iTunes. After performing a search of my Music folder (*.mp3) 3405files were found, I highlight these files and drag-n-drop them into iTunes. iTunes only displays 2894, that 511 mp3 files not displayed in iTunes.
I have attempted, again with a empty library, to add a folder (my Music), this still only displays the 2894 songs.
Any ideas why these may be omitted from iTunes?

  • How I can change a different iCloud count in my iphone

HHow I can change my iCloud Id in my iphone

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple,  Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • Song count (e.g 2848 songs) is incorrect!

The problem I and some of my friends have been having with iTunes is that my library will say I have 2849 songs. But when I copy all of them to my Ipod, it switches to 2848. No one knows what happens to that one song... Checking if Itunes really did miss a song would be a long task. Also, when backing up the Ipod using different programs, it would seem that each program also gives a different song count. One program will say there are so many songs on your ipod, while the other will say there are only that many. Why do the song counts fluctuate? And should we be worried that our songs really are getting lost...

Most likely your songs are not getting lost, but some of them are in different formats. I have the original ipod and it actually shows a warning when I'm updating that says "The file blah blah will not be imported because files with the extension whatever cannot be played on your ipod." Check and see if any of your songs are a different format. They may be able to be played on your computer but not on the ipod.

  • I have an iPhone 4 on IOS5. I signed up for itunes match. After everything uploaded to the cloud, my songs are messed up. I'll select a song and the title will show with the right art work but a different song will start playing.  Anyone have a solution?

I have an iPhone 4 on IOS5. I signed up for itunes match. After everything uploaded to the cloud, my songs are messed up. I'll select a song and the title will show with the right art work but a different song will start playing.  Some songs won't play at all even though they do appear in the itunes store. The artwork almost always shows u blank until you turn it to landscape then it will appear. Anyone know what's going on?

I have found that scrolling through the album list (past albums without art) triggers the progress wheel next to the wifi symbol. You can scroll quickly through the whole collection and then wait! Artwork will appear gradually...
However, repeat visits to the Music App might initially show no artwork again, but it might spontaneously appear more quickly this time. The bad news is that the whole Music App is now sluggish as ****...

  • When I sync iphone to itunes, why do my soundtracks not show as albums but via artist?  IE: Pulp Fiction has 16 songs by different artists.  In itunes I can pull up pulp fiction and play the 16 songs.  In iphone sync the 16 songs are seperate

When I sync iphone to itunes, why do my soundtracks not show as albums but via artist?  IE: Pulp Fiction has 16 songs by different artists.  In itunes I can pull up pulp fiction and play the 16 songs.  In iphone sync the 16 songs are seperate and listed by Al Green, cowboy junkies etc... How to fix this so the ipod part of my iphone will show & play the soundtracks as albums... thanks.

What is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If you have chosen selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres - if Pulp Fiction is available under the Albums section to be selected as an Album to be transferred to your iPhone, is it selected?
If so, when you select Albums via the iPod on your iPhone, the album is not available there to select?
You can always create an iTunes playlist with these songs placing the songs in your preferred order.

  • Songs on iPhone playlist completely different from playlist in iTunes

I have a smart playlist "Most Played." It's pretty simple: Limited to 50 items selected by most often played. Works fine in iTunes, however the playlist on my phone contains 50 completely different songs in no order that I can make any sense of. In fact, they seem to be songs that I rarely listen to. I've tried altering the playlist, and even deleting the playlist and recreating it, but it still picks the same obscure 50 songs. Why would a playlist on the iPhone be different from the same playlist on iTunes?

I have the exact same problem. My "Most often Played" playlist which appears fine in iTunes and fine when viewing the list in iTunes (but on my iPhone) when I disconnect from the computer this playlist is full of songs I have listened to a couple of times and basically don't care for. I've tried renaming the playlist thinking it had something to do with the 'M.O.P.' naming scheme. I've deleted the entire contents of the playlist and re-synced, but nothing seems to change these weird songs from appearing in my most often played list. I noticed this after the 3.1 update, but can't be completely sure when it started. This is annoying. My plain old iPod maintains the library much better than the iPhone iPod. Any suggestions? Seems like every time we want the iPhone to act like an iPod, we have to do a bunch of tricks to get it to sort of work. Personally I blame it on windows compatibility, the more compatible Apple makes their stuff with windows, the less reliable and kludgy their stuff gets. (Sorry didn't mean to blame Windows, just frustrated.)

  • Song Count Different in iTunes Library and iPod

I am perplexed now. iTunes says I have 6643 songs in the library, and it says it is fully synched with my iPod. Yet the iPod thinks it has only 6603 songs on it. I have gone carefully through the library, and every song thinks it is downloaded. When I mount the iPod, and highlight it in the Source column, the library also reports that the iPod has only 6603 songs on it, so it agrees with the iPod. So what are the 40 songs that the library has that won't download onto the iPod?

Solution found. I find this amazing, but the iTunes library and the iPod treat duplicates in different ways. In iTunes, if one accidentally ends up with a duplicate song (for example by ripping the same CD twice, not realizing it was ripped before) the iTunes library shows the song twice (and the underlying mp3 files exists twice in the store). And the number of songs showing in the library includes both copies of the song, the original and the duplicate. If you then synch up the iPod, however, iTunes only loads one copy of the song to the iPod. So in my case it transpired that there were 40 duplicates on my computer, none of which downloaded to the iPod, and that is why the song count was higher in the iTunes library, and why the volume of music in the library showed as 240 MB more than what was in the iPod. Very strange design that iTunes knows enough not to download duplicates, but still shows them in the library. Solution is to go to Edit / Show Duplicates in the iTunes library, but be careful as there will be many false positives.

  • HT1386 I have different songs on my phone than in my iTunes library, how do I sync the two without wiping my iPhone?

I have different songs on my iPhone than I have in my iTunes library. When I try to sync it says it wants to wipe my iPhone. How can I sync it and keep my songs on my phone?

It is from a different computer and includes songs from CDs that I created different playlists and items I purchased from itunes. The original computer crashed and I was able to restore the songs to my new computer from the backup on another backup drive but not all of the songs synced to the new computer.  Now I have some songs on my iPhone that do not match the songs in my library on my new PC.  This happened once before but I cannot remember how I solved for it.

  • Song Count vastly different on iPod and iTunes

My 5g 30GB ipod does not seem to be bringing over all the songs in my iTunes.
My settings are to synch all files automatically.
My iTunes shows 3844 Songs using 18.41GB of space.
My iPod shows 2346 songs using 11.65GB of space.
    Things I have checked already:
    1) I do not have 1500+ songs that I am not authorized to play
    2) These are not pdf booklets, etc in iTunes that won't xfer over
    3) My mail library in iTunes shows only 250 duplicate songs, not enough to make up the huge difference.
Any help given would be much appreciated!

You are welcome. Ya I sort of hate suggesting a restore to people because it you have a lot of stuff on it, it takes a long time to get that many gigs back onto the iPod. But in many cases, that is what you need to do to clear up weird things like this.
Glad to hear your iPod is working normally again. I feel even worse when I suggest a restore, they spend an hour plus doing that only to have that NOT fix the problem.

  • My Iphone won't sync my CD audio files, after having them on my Iphone for years I updated the other day and they all dissapeared, all that's left is songs bought from Itunes.

I've had an Iphone 4 and I have been listening to hundreds of songs no problem for the past year and a half I've owned it. The other day I decided to sync my Iphone to my laptop to get two songs from a CD. After doing this process and approaching it like I usually would (without causing any problems) I checked my Iphone to see if the two songs had downloaded after the sync. I discovered that my Iphone had lost every audio file that was not bought from the Itunes store leaving me with a sliver of songs to listen to. I immediatly checked my laptop (a Windows device) to see if my music was still there, thankfully it's all on my laptop and the songs play without a problem. So I attempted to sync the songs to my iphone several times, but the CD songs would simply not sync (When syncing your Iphone it consists of 5 steps, the progress bar skips steps 3-4, those are the steps when your music syncs). I'm not an idiot, I checked the small details (checking all albums and songs I wanted and checking the 'entire music library' option) as well I checked the big details (making sure my phone and Itunes were up to date, changing the USB to Iphone wire with another just like it). After a couple of hours of tinkering with different ways to sync I was stumped so I decided to restore my Iphone to factory settings. After doing that and setting up my Iphone newly I still could not download those CD files from Itunes to my Iphone. I called apple support and they recommended that I uninstall Itunes and re-install it. Again no success, all my music is still on my laptop working fine, but I can't seem to sync my CD songs from itunes to my Iphone. If anybody has any info please help. -A college student who needs something to listen to everyday on the hour long bus

Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.
