Different stereo handling on different tracks

I have a number of mono sound clips in a project with a lot of mono audio tracks which are behaving kind of strangely. When I drop them into the top 7 tracks they play from only either the left or the right channel (I thought they alternated, but not quite: track 1 is L, 2 is R, 3 L, 4 R, 5 L, 6 L, 7 R). When I drop them into any track lower than that, they play from both channels.
It seems to me that there's some kind of audio output map that's set for each track, though even more weirdly this doesn't seem to apply to *every* mono track. Can't seem to find anything which would sort this out, though.
This inconsistency is pretty annoying, but I'm a fair way into this edit - it's a short which has been ported over from FCP - and I'd really like not to have to go back and change the audio mapping of every clip from scratch. Any suggestions?

Just to follow up - yes, these were mono clips on mono tracks.
Richard was absolutely right: I should have checked the audio mixer and pan settings, but didn't bother since I generally don't even have the mixer open or the pan settings displayed - I'd normally hand over to a sound designer using ProTools for finishing and mix. So there's no way I'd even have modified the settings, right?
Wrong. No idea why, but when I opened up the track pan display I found dozens of panning keyframes entered for those seven tracks, stretching well beyond the end of the current sequence duration. My best guess is that these were somehow left over from the FCP XML import - I hadn't done any stereo mixing in FCP either, but maybe this is how Premiere interprets certain kinds of FCP audio information?. That could be way off, though.
Thanks for your replies.

  • How can I get 2 different track from iTunes playing on 2 different stereos?

We are remodeling a part of our home and decided that this would be the time to install a whole house audio system. We would like to use our iTunes library as a source and be able to play different tracks in different parts of the house (also called zones)
To put it in a slightly different fashion. I could have a dedicated Mac Mini with my iTunes library and it would feed tracks with meta data to 3 stereos in various parts of the house. Each stereo independently select tracks or playlists.
iTunes purchased tracks need to work as well.
    Thank you all....

What you need is to use one Mac (or PC) as a server (and storing all the music) and then one of the following in each room connected to that rooms HiFi system.
Sonos ZonePlayer see http://www.sonos.com this is the most expensive option but is regarded as the premier multi-room solution.
Roku SoundBridge see http://www.rokulabs.com (I have three M2000 SoundBridges myself)
    Slim Devices Squeezebox see http://www.slimdevices.com
Apple TV see http://www.apple.com/appletv (unlike all the above this will require the use of a TV)
With these, different rooms can play different tracks at the same time with them all stored on the single computer.

  • Swiping on two different tracks

I recorded the same acoustic guitar part on 2 different tracks with 5 takes on each one. I have not been able to swipe so that I can use part of 1 track and part of the other one. What am I doing that is wrong? Thanks in advance for responding.
    Larry Cantwell

    Hi Larry,
I believe you need to group the two tracks. Assign them to the same group, and in the group settings, make sure that editing is enabled.
This is how how to handle swiping on multiple mic'd sources like stereo acoustic gtr, or a multi-mic'd drum kit, for instance

  • Is there a way to select multiple track sections from different tracks and join them to make the chorus on iPhone?

I am currently using the iPhone to record my vocals on top of professional beats, or riddims as they are called in the dancehall world. Is there a way for me to select multipe voice sections from different tracks, copy them and then paste them later in the project. I don't want to record the chorus more than once. Normally what I do is sync the project to my wife MacBook Air and then from there edit it but I would like to avoid this. Also, I use the earpods microphone to record my voice and of course it doesn't come out professional quality but it is decent. Do you recommend a microphone that plugs to the iPhone or should I get an interface? Thanks for the help.

You can either copy and paste single regions or duplicate sections, if you want to copy regions
    from different tracks in parallel.
See: Extend a song with song sections
Adjust the length of your sections in a way, that the regions you want to copy from different tracks are together in a section of your song.
Add a copy of a section:
Open the song section controls, choose the section you want to copy, then tap Duplicate. The copy is added after the last section.
Tap Done to close the song section controls.
After copying the section, move the new section to the end of the song:
    Change the order of sections:
Open the song section controls, then tap Edit.
Drag a section up or down in the list by the handle on its right edge.
When you are finished, tap Done.
Tap Done to close the song section controls.

  • Splitting midi commands among different tracks

Some time ago, someone posted a technique to split different midi parameters among different tracks in the arrange window. It was for an orchestral score, done this way to get tight control and automation on the parameters.
I've looked for that post for several days, but cannot find it. Does someone know who posted it?
    I'd appreciate any help.

There are several ways to deal with this. If you are using something like BFD, Superior, etc - make a multi instance of the virtual instrument. In the VI assign each drum to a different output bus, then each drum will come up on a seperate channel in your mixer..
If you were using a stereo instance - would be to mute all drums, but the kick, and record that to audio, then the snare, hats, etc. One at a time, that way you have complete control over it. You can go back later, and replace the snare, change pitch etc. without disturbing the rest of the mix.

  • Clips are being added in different tracks (as in layers)

I am have two videos clips which I am dragging to the screenline.
I drag the first clip it goes into track 1.
When I drag the second clip it automatically goes to track 2.
If I delete it from track 2 to try to get it into track 1, it goes to track 3.
    What am I doing wrong?

Steve, this is what I found out.
As you said the problem is audio and I believe it happens when recording in SD using audio 5.1 and mpeg format.
I was suggested to set my video to stereo but my camcorder doesn't offer stereo option.
I finally redefined what was happening as follows:
TIMELINE - when I drag a video clip here it goes to track 2. I can continue adding more clips and they are inserted one after the other in track 2.
SCENELINE - however after I add the clips in Timeline and look in Sceneline I only see the first clip. Furthermore I can drag a clip to sceneline ok but any attemp to drag any more doesn't seem to do anything... BUT if I go to Timeline I see them all, each in a different track. E.G. one in track 4 the next in 5 and so on.
I was offered the following solutions:
    1.  after acquiring the video clips, use the File>Export>Movie to export all the clips.  PE7 automatically exports them in .avi format or
    2.  use the Prism convertion program to convert the clips to .avi
    both worked.
I thought I pass this on so as not to leave this issue hanging unresolved.
Thanks again for the help you have always given me.

  • Need help sending different drums to different tracks (EZ Drummer)

I'm using EZ drummer and would like to send different drums to different tracks... can anyone help me with this? I see in the EZ Drummers mixer that I can send to different tracks, but how/where are those tracks in Logic? Thanks....

Choose a Multiout instance of EZ first from the Plug In folder - e.g. 8 Stereo Outs - now in your Mixer there will appear a little "+" sign at the bottom of the EZ channelstrip - hit that and Auxes will be created automatically with the different EZ outs asssigned to their Inputs. Now route the Instruments to the different outs in EZ and you're ready to go.

  • When clicking an audio clip on the timeline in Premiere Pro CC 2014, it duplicates it on a different track and makes it impossible to work.

I'm experiencing a disturbing issue as it actually prevents me to do the work in Premiere. I will put as much info as possible:
    1) Project started on a different computer (the editor), PC with Premiere Pro CC,
    2) Now opened on my Imac with Premiere Pro CC 2014,
    3) I am not editing, simply trying to move audio clips on different tracks to export audio tracks only,
    THE ISSUE:
    1) Here is my timeline:
    2) When I select an audio clip to highlight it, Premiere creates a duplicate on a different track:
Note that the clip highlighted in the previous screen cap is the duplicate and I didn't click it, Premiere highlights it as soon as it is duplicated.
    3) When I click out of the timeline or scroll up or down on the timeline, the duplicates disappear. However, when I try to move the original clips, it doesn't do anything, they are stuck in place.
    ANTICIPATED ANSWERS:
    1) You work on 2 different computers with 2 different versions of Premiere Pro CC, what do you expect? --> The amazing thing about Adobe CC is that it shouldn't be an issue and now I have to deal with it in this way,
    2) Try and save an updated version of your project from your computer. --> Already done that.
Thank you for your help. I usually use the customer support chat but I am on the other side of the globe and it is now closed. This issue prevents me to work so I need to solve it quickly.
    Kind regards,
    Aurelien

This sounds to me like it could be a graphics related problem are you on the latest driver. Something else you could try, start a new project and import the one from the PC into that rather than directly opening it in the MAC

  • How to make Different Tracks in a Recording

    HI there ...
I'm just starting to make my way around GarageBand ...
I have to do a recording tomorrow ... its an audition for a pianist. He's going to have to play some solos, scales etc ... all told it will be about an hour and a half of recording or more ...
What I need to know is ..... Every part of the audition has to end up as a different track on the cd I make of it. For example the ten scales has to play would each be a track number ... his solo piece another number and so on.
How do I mark tracks on the recording? Also ... if I set up the recording and just press record every time he plays ..... am I going to have enough space in the one project to record everything? I thought I read somewhere that garageband has a limit on the number of bars that it can record.
Thanks so much for any help .......

I just looked at Amadeus Pro on the web .... Does it do recording too?
    Yes
How many tracks can it do ....
I don't think it's actually specified, but lots. (Actually I don't think this is what you are talkin aboujt, it can do numerous simultaneous tracks for mixing down: but yes, you can split a single recording into separate ones.)
If I record on GarageBand ... can I use Amadeus to
    edit the GarageBand file? ...
Yes - first export to iTunes then drag the file from iTunes to the desktop and then drag that to the Amadeus Pro icon in the dock.
.... Cut sections out ... Mark tracks .... and burn a
    CD? ....
Yes, yes and yes. The program is still in beta and I haven't actually tried the CD burning facility, but in any case you can burn audio CDs from iTunes.

Can I use Consolidate Files to move different tracks into one Album?

No, that's not what the Consolidate command is for. That command for getting all your track files into a single folder. To get all the tracks in an album to appear together, just Get Info on the tracks and make the album name all the same for each track. See:

  • Why do some tracks, when imported from Audacity, when selected, immediately flip to a different track?

Up until early 2012, I digitized thousands of LP tracks using Audacity, exporting them as MP3 files and then adding them to my iTunes library as AAC format.  This all worked great.
Now, after a year using a new MacBook Pro, I have started digitizing my remaining dozen LP's after downloading and installing the latest version of Audacity (2.0.3).  I noticed that several - not all - of the newly digitized tracks, when selected in iTunes, would immediately jump to a different track.  Sometimes the jump would be to a much older track, and sometimes to a track that was purchased from the iTunes store.  Sometimes the jump would be to the next track in sequence.  A Genius Bar staff suggested that I change from MP3 to AIFF, and that seemed to help after I re-digitized the problem tracks.  Today, however, I noticed that 3 of the 11 tracks from an album I converted yesterday were jumping to other tracks.  I had the AIFF preference set to 32-bit.  Would changing it to 16-bit help?  Why would only some tracks be affected?
    Argh!

This seems to have done the trick.  Thank you.
You are welcome.  That issue between iTunes and Audacity comes up here every once in a while:

If you are making archival copies of those LPs, keep the 32 bit copies somewhere and make 16-bit versions to use in iTunes.  Otherwise, just do everything in 16.

  • Copying clips to different tracks

This seems to be a beginner's issue, but anyway: when I copy a clip in a sequence and want to paste it on a different track, the clip always ends up on the track I copied from.
Changing the destination track before pasting doesnot work with me.
The same thing happens when I paste the clip in another sequence.
Is there a hidden pref or setup that can make it work?

    C'mon Bogie! You and I both know < </div>
Actually, Patrick, I freely admit I do not know anything about AutoSelect's operations and here's why:
With AutoSelect activated, your designations for destination and selection tracks are overridden by invisible, behind-the-interface, logic parameters. There is no indication which tracks are activate. The only visible indicators in the timeline, the user-selected destinations, are invalidated by AS. You must remember the logical progressions AutoSelect uses to determine where your tracks are going to end up. If AutoSelect knows where they're going, why isn't there a visual indication?
Yes, some tracks light up if you have in/out points set. That is a higher editing function not required or even desired by lots of folks like me who just need to cut-paste without having to remember invisible priorities. It's lame programming, a bad idea that remains unfinished. For many users, AutoSelect just gets in the way of enjoying FCP by obscuring basic operations and overriding user decisions.
FCP includes non-features that assume the operator is an idiot. I'm impatient; I'm not an idiot. I live with these hassles and I resent the presumptuousness of the design team. AutoSelect bites; I just turn it off, but Media Manager remains inexcusably flawed.

  • Inserting multiple clips stacked on different tracks

    Hi All,
I know this has to have come up before, and my memory has the tingle that I thought I'd done this in the past, but I really can't seem to remember or find it now.
Basicly, Inserting multiple clips from project window into the timeline and stacking on different tracks (vertically) instead of Head to tail.

Ok so gonna end up answering my own question , after some playing around I found this way of doing it.
Select all files you want to insert
right click and select create multicam
sync via start unless you want to try and audio sync them (I use plural eyes 3)
    create sequence from multicam
    Ctrl double click the multicam
This gives you a sequence with all files on seperate tracks, if I don't really want/need a multicam for that particular project I cut and past into a new sequence then use plural to sync vid audio, otherwise i just sync in the multicam and im ready to go.
Although this works, there really should be an easier way, a shift + Ctrl while dropping on the timeline ... feature request !
ps. I read someone state that this was not a regularly needed funciton in premier .. I really dont know what work they are doing but i need this every single day !
