Different USB cable with iPod Touch 3G?

I'm confused about the issues with some chargers and cables not working with my iPod Touch 3G that did work with my iPod Video 5G. For example, my car charger no longer works - something about it "doesn't work with this device". I have read something about the pins in the USB part being used differently... I don't really need to understand as much as I need to be sure if I need to get another cable like came with my Touch 3G, or can I safely continue to use other Apple sync/charge cables from previously owned iPods. I started using a retractable cable (not Apple) and weird things happened so I won't use it anymore (it also worked with my iPod video with no problem).
Even the cable on the Apple store page does not say it's compatible with the Touch 3G. I'm afraid to use any but the one that came with my Touch!

The only cables that won't work are the ones from the original iPods that were Firewire. All USB iPod cables should work.
Your car charger doesn't work because it probably cannot supply enough power (500 mA required). So not really a cable issue but the charger itself.

  • USB cable for iPod Touch

Can I use the older style USB connection cables (the ones with the buttons you squeeze to disconnect) with my new iPod touch? I don't want to damage it, but I have several of these older cables and it is nice to have one at the office and one at home without having to move them around.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Forums!
Yes, they work fine. I have some from old iPods (including FireWire cables), and from Griffin power accessories, with the push buttons, I use them all with my IPT (depending on where I am).
    Hope this helps...

  • What usb cable for ipod touch 4th g 64gb?

I got a used iPod touch 64gb 4th generation, but no charging cable. I assume that a charger for a classic iPod video 64gb wouldn't fit, but which cable would be the right one?
There is one for sale, called a "Sync Data USB Cable+Home+DC Car Charger For Apple iPod Touch 4G 4th Gen 8GB/64GB". It seems as if this would be the right item or am I missing something? This is a generic item. Should I do that?
    Thanks!
    Mildred.

This one "Sync Data USB Cable+Home+DC Car Charger For Apple iPod Touch 4G 4th Gen 8GB/64GB". should be fine.
The charger for a classic iPod video 64gb may not work since early iPod chargers used FireWire charging (12 volts) vice USB (5 volts) for charging.

  • Used wrong usb cable with iPod

I accidentally used the usb cable from my iPhone 4 to connect my iPod to my MacBook running OS10.7.5. The iPod display says Do Not Disconnect, but the iPod never showed up in iTunes or on the desktop. I shut down the computer and restarted. IPod still says Do Not Disconnect and still is a no-show in iTunes/desktop.  I tried to reset by holding the center button and the Menu button at the same time. No luck. Tried plugging into usb charger, also no luck. Obviously, I had to disconnect to do that. I also tried connecting to iPod port in my car, but it said Loading Error. Have i fried the iPod? Or can it be resuscitated?
    Thanks!

my touch 2g isn't recognized by my windows 7 pc ...no usb connection

    Here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • My ipod touch is stuck in connect to itunes screen. I've tried to press Power and Home button at the same time for 10 seconds and all it does is go to a black screen. Press power button again and the usb cable with an arrow towards an iTunes logo.

I have a brand new Ipod touch with front facing camera. Not sure which generation it is. My wife connected the iPod Touch and chose the restore option when connecting to iTunes. It was a mistake and by the time I got there, I saw the screen with USB cable with an arrow facing towards iTunes logo. I cannot get the iPod out of this state.

    Try here:

  • My Ipod touch is frozen.  Shows USB cable with arrow pointing to Itunes.  What is the problem?  This is the second one I have had that has done this!

My Ipod touch is frozen.  The screen shows only USB cable with arrow point to the word Itunes.  What is the problem?  This is the second touch I have had that has this same problem.  HELP!

This time try restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod instead of from backup.  You may have some corruption that is causing the problem and it may now be in the backup.  If the problem persists after restoring to factory defaults/new iPod. then you likely have a hardware problem and ana ppointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • Are earlier ipod usb cords interchangeable with ipod touch?

Hi, this is a quick question, my sister got an ipod touch for Christmas and someone threw out her cord - I have a couple of extra ipod cords from a classic, a nano and one other model - all of which have the same pin formation as the touch - she said her cord was shorter than mine - I am happy to give her one of my extras if there is no problem with her using it to connect to her computer. Any advice? I know with computers, each model has it's own requirements for their power cords.
    Thanks in advance,
    Annexit

I have used my older iPod 4th Gen & 5th Gen USB cables with my 1st Gen iPod Touch (and my iPhone 3G) with no problems. You will not be able to use the older firewire cables if you still have any of those though...

  • Remplacement du cable usb de mon ipod touch 5e génération

    Bonjour,
Je vis en Haiti, comment puis-je faire pour remplacer le cable usb de mon ipod touch 5e génération qui vient d'etre détérioré?
    Bien à vous.

    Google translate:
    Hello,
I live in Haiti, how can I replace the usb cable from my ipod touch 5th generation just be worse?
    Good to you.
If there are no Apple stores in Haiti then contact an Apple Authorized Service provider to claim coverage under your warranty (one year) for a bad cable.
Otherwise purchase new cable. genuine Apple cables seem to last long that knock-offs.

  • Is the USB Power Adapter compatible with iPod touch 3rd Generation?

Is the USB Power Adapter compatible with iPod touch 3rd generation?
The specs of the Adapter ("This accessory is compatible with the following:" in the "Overview" section) don't mention iPod touch 3rd generation. They do mention 1st and 2nd Generation
    Thanks!

    Thank you, Lyssa.
You must be right based on that article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353). The latest model of iPod touch is referred to as "iPod touch (Late 2009)" -- and NOT "iPod touch 3rd generation", as I erroneously assumed.
That completely answers my question about the USB power adapter.

  • Help on syncing multiple calendars with iPod Touch 4g 64g

In our university, we use iCal with Blackboard. Also, our main *email* is Entourage - pretty sure it's the most recent version for Mac.
How can we sync the Entourage calendar with iCal, and be sure that they are all merged and 2-way functional for the iPod touch and laptops (I know for multiple computers we'll have to set up home sharing - for now let's just focus on the calendar syncing).
I have instructions for syncing Entourage with iPod Touch, and it's been recommended to use Google to sync with iCal (thanks llllass) but we don't want to use Google or MobileMe to get to iCal.  iCal is already built into the iPod Touch, as I'm sure you know.
Any advice on how to make this super simple?
    Thanks in advance.

My first suggestion is to try Stanza, as it is a much more configurable ebook reader.  You can use the
Calibre (ebook management/conversion utility) to transfer ebooks from your computer to your iPod Touch.
    <http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30657/calibre>
Looking at iBooks on my iPod Touch, my font selection and font size are only present when I have an ebook open.  If I tap the center of a page, the top edge of the screen has
Library | Table of Contents | Brightness | aA (font size, and font selection) | Search | Bookmark
Where the aA icon brings up a control that has a small a and a large A.  If I tap on the large A, each tap increases the font size until it gets REALLY BIG.  Tapping on teh small a reduces the font size for each tap.
Landscape lock.  OK for the iPod Touch as a whole, you put the iPod Touch in the orientation you desire, then you quick double-tap on the home button.  This will bring up a list of your running apps.  Now slide the list to the right, and you will see music controls as well as on the far left a screen lock button.  Tap the screen lock button to lock your iPod Touch in its current orientation.  Unlock it later when you want your iPod Touch to be able to rotae again.
NOTE:  Stanza as an ebook reader, it has its own configuration control that locks Stanza into a specific orientation, independent of the iPod Touch orientation or the iPod Touch orientation lock.  Another reason I like Stanza.
Wallpaper.  I think you can only change it to something else.  Settings -> Wallpaper, then tap on the screen you want to change.  Now select a different Wallpaper from either the Wallpaper selections, or anything in your Camera Roll, or your Photo Library.

  • AV cable from ipod touch to TV

I have a 1st generation ipod touch with the version 2.2 software. When I use my AV cable connection to my TV and play a video or view photo's the images are always black & white, but the audio is fine. This is my second cable & the same thing happens. I've tried every combination but this is the best result I've received. Is the AV cable compatible with ipod touch 1st gen?

    Davidjo wrote:
The leads I'm using to achieve this are the 2 audio leads (red and white) and the blue coloured lead >from the video leads. Every other combination does not work.
The Apple Component AV Cable requires all five cables be connected to the TV.
If your TV only has one port for video and two for audio, you would need the Apple Composite AV Cable.
    DennisBoyd68 wrote:
Can someone tell me the difference between Apple Compoiste AV Cable and Apple Componet AV Cable.
The article I linked above explains the differences of the cables. The Apple Component AV Cable will give better quality images. If you are going to primarily connect your iPod to a HD TV with available component ports, its the cable you will want to get. If you are going to connect your iPod to a TV without component connections, get the composite cable.
