Different Volumes on Speak and Headphones no longer works-

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is how I remember my iMac and my MBP behaving:
Volume is on one bar. If you plug in your headphones, the volume changes to what your last settings were for your headphones (let's say five bars). When you unplug your headphones, the volume goes back to the original one bar.
But today I noticed that it hasn't been working the same way: when I unplug my headphones the volume for the speakers remains what it was for the headphones.
Since this is happening on both my computers, I think it has something to do with software.
The only thing I have installed in relation to sound is AirFoil, AirFoil Speakers, and the Soundflower extra for it. I've tried removing both (using AppCleaner) applications, as well as Soundflower from within AirFoil, but the problem persists. Any idea on what else it could be, or how to fix it?
I've e-mailed Rouge Amoeba, but I'm not sure if this is a problem with AirFoil, or if they'll be able to help.
Thanks,

Hmm, okay, so this is what I've done, and this is what has happened:
I restored my MBP to January 1st, when I hadn't installed AirFoil, but the problem was still there.
Since the problem is affecting all users, including Guest Users, I thought that it might be a system file. So I reformatted by computer, and used Migration Assistant to bring everything back. The problem was gone! Everything worked as it should. And this is with AirFoil and SoundFlower installed.
But then I updated my computer, including a combo update to 10.6.2; all of a sudden, the problem is back.
= (
This makes me think the problem is in OS X. Which means by currently reformatting iMac is going to waste a few hours of my life for no reason.
One advantage, though, is that my most recent back-up for it does not include AirFoil or SoundFlower. So I'll update the computer, and if the problem returns, it should be OS X, no?
Can anyone with 10.6.2 check if they also have this problem? It'd be awesome if someone has 10.6 and 10.6.1 on a bootable drive they can test, as well.
Any idea how we report this to Apple if it is OS X?
Thanks in advance!

I noticed a week ago that the left headphone audio output wasn't working, and shortly after I realized that my left speaker wasn't working either. I thought maybe it was a matter of updating some software, but everything is up to date. Anyone encouter this problem before?

Solved my own problem,

Strange thing is I don't recall adjusting those settings. Hope this is helpful to anyone else who has this issue!

• Speaker and headphones stop working on mac book pro?

Why does my speaker and headphones randomly stop working on my mac book pro? It wont work again until I restart my computer.

What model identifier is your MacBook Pro? To see this, hold the Option key and choose "System Information" from the Apple menu, and then click "Hardware" (this should be selected by defualt) followed by noting the Model Identifier which should be something like "MacBookPro6,2."
Does the system properly wake from sleep if you boot it to Safe Mode (hold the Shift key at startup to do this)?

I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions and not have to pay to have the entire main board replaced. Preferably something under $100.

I don't think you're likely to find a set of external speakers that come with a microphone and plug directly into a USB port. There are USB audio cards that look like tiny flash drives but have microphone and headphone ports in them, to which you can connect a typical two-plug Windows PC headset with a microphone, or else you can connect external speakers and a stand-alone microphone. Those adapters typically cost under $10. I don't know anything about the quality of sound that can be expected from them.
I have a Griffin iMic, which is much the same idea but larger, a bit more expensive (retail~$40), and perhaps delivers somewhat better sound quality (I hope so, but I don't know because I've never had occasion to try one of the little ones).

• My MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.2, only audio on the headset, and speaker mute. With Windows, the audio works in speaker and headphone jack. What is the problem? What's the solution?

My MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.2, only audio on the headset, and speaker mute. With Windows, the audio works in speaker and headphone jack. What is the problem? What's the solution?

There is probably a red light on inside your headphone port, indicating that the analog/digital switch in there is stuck in the digital position. Insert a headphone plug and wigle it around, especially in the horizontal plane, as you insert and remove it several times. This will usually unstick the switch and restore normal operation. If it doesn't, the machine will need to be repaired.
This has been a fairly common problem, but in most cases it is easily cured as described above.

• I've updated my ipad to iso7 now the sound is distorted through the speaker and headphones, it is unusable! Is anyone else having this problem?

I've updated my ipad to iso7 now the sound is distorted through the speaker and headphones, it is unusable! I wouldn't dare to update my iphone. Is anyone else having this problem? Can't seem to find any fixes online?

A reset should fix it:
Double click the Home button. Slide up with one finger on ALL your apps to close them.
Then, Press the Sleep/Wake button + Home button and hold 15 seconds or until you see the Apple logo.
This will reset your device without erasing data, apps or settings.

• My new iPhone 4S has hearing problem.speaker and headphone works very good. However using handset to make and receive calls I cannot hear anything?I did restore the phone and removed the plastic. Is there any solution to this problem please?

I am having heraing problem with iPhone 4S.Speaker and headphone works well.No echo. When I use handset to receive or make calls,I can't hear anything?I restore the phone and removed the plastic as well.Is there anyway to fix this problem?

I personally haven't experienced much of the "reverberation/feedback" when using a headset on the i4S...
Yes, I have near-perfect hearing too (for scope, squeaky brakes hurt my ears) I come from many conversations on many phones and types and first off, CDMA technology is great for coverage, terrible for voice quality. HD Voice in Europe made for some of the best phone conversations I've ever had.
Back on track, feedback is most noticable (similar to the landline phone) when using the iPhone without a headset, but for me it's not an absolute criticality mainly because I use VoIP apps alot, so maybe it has desensitized me some over the past year.
But whenever I'm on a call, and the other person has me on speakerphone, I have alot of trouble talking because of the feedback loop caused. So the less of my voice I hear the better I can talk.
Have you tried a bluetooth headset yet?

• Both Portege R700 speaker and Headphone makes sound

Hi,
My name is Anbu, I am using Portege R700 Series. I am facing a strange problem
When i am using head phone for listening (I am plugging only speaker pin - Green colour), it works properly i.e i am hearing sound from head phone only.
If I *plug both Mic & speaker pin* of the headphone (Both Red & green colour pin) into the respective slots, both *laptop speaker and headphone speaker makes sound.* Ideally only +head phone should work, not laptop speaker+
Help me in finding the what is the problem behind this & how to resolve
Regards
ANBU

Hi mate
Please check the settings in the +control panel -> sound -> recording tab+
Click right and mark the options: enable hidden devices and enable disabled devices
Then you should be able to get the properties of mic and stereo mix
Play around with all the available options.

Thank you.

Hello Dev2810,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the notebook produces sound from both headphones and speakers. I will do my best to assist you! The only troubleshooting I could suggest in this thread: Headphones plugged in, but speakers are still playing sound
I provided these steps a while ago I noticed it resolved all instances of this issue, when done properly. Please try the steps and let me know what happens. Thanks!

• The only time the sound/speaker and mic don't work is when I answer or make a call

The only time the sound/speaker and mic don't work is when I answer or make a call. They both work fine for everything else. This has been going on for over a month. AT&T said it's Apple and Apple said it's AT&T. I've been around that cycle twice.
When I dial a call, I can see the status words on the screen but can't hear the ringing. If the person I'm calling answers, my screen will show the call was connected and the call timer will begin but I can't hear anything and they can't hear me. If one of us doesn't end the call, the timer keeps going and I'm being 'charged' for dead air. (Of course, one of us disconnects so mins/cost isn't an issue, I'm just adding the info in case it helps solve the problem.) If they don't answer, the call will go to their greeting but I can't hear it and wouldn't be able to leave a message anyway because my voice isn't going through. However, they will get a voice mail alert and see that I called but no message was recorded.
If some one tries to call me they will hear ringing but when I answer, they can't hear me and I can't hear them. If I don't answer, they will hear my greeting and can leave a message. I can retrieve and hear my voice mail. Trying speaker phone and headsets didn't change anything for calls out nor for calls in.
I have 4.3.3 and have synched, reset, rebooted, turned things on and off and off and on and took the SIM card out of the phone and out of it's tray and put it back in. I've done all that several times in just about every combination and order possible.
Hopefully the following will provide good clues: On only about three of the many attempts I've made to get it to work correctly that included taking out the SIM card, I could make and/or get one or two calls with no trouble but then the problem comes back. Also, when I swapped the SIM card with another iPhone4 on my plan, the other phone would work with my SIM card but my phone still would not work with the other SIM card. The last fact makes me think it is an Apple issue. I'll go to an Apple store (genius) this weekend. Will I be wasting my time and gas? Anybody have any experience with this problem?

Let me try and address some of your questions. I'm only on a pc, so a few of these answers might be slightly different on a Mac, but not too different (such as control click rather than right click).
First, when you buy something on your phone, be it apps or music, it's transferred from your phone to your Mac when you sync your phone. So those apps should now be in you iTunes library. ( IF for some reason you can't find them there, you should be able to download them again, either onto your phone or through iTunes. On your phone, go to the App Store > Updates and you'll see a "Purchased" link at the top of the page, you can view all purchased apps here and redownload them. In iTunes, you can go to Store > Check for available downloads. )
Whenever you plug your phone in, it should create a backup of everything you have on the phone. This is how, provided restoring your phone as a new device doesn't fix the issue (more on this later), you can put all of your music and apps onto the new phone. You can always plug your phone into your Mac and the first thing it should do when it syncs is create a backup. If you want to be sure, you can right click on your device in iTunes (on a pc) or I assume control click on a Mac and select "backup".
The genius will take care of the sim card and setting up your phone, however you will have to put all of your music and apps on it, unless you ask the genius, I've never bothered since I know how to do this.
You should have no problems restoring from a backup if they give you a new phone. However, it's probably safest to try and create a backup of your last phone backup before you restore it as a new device. I suggest you refer to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414 for more information about that.
I've had no problems with my new phone so far.
I'll try to keep checking this thread if you have any other questions or need more clarification.
Edit: I should say we never did figure out what exactly was wrong with my phone. The only thing I can think of was that it got a lot hotter than the phone it replaced, and also the phone I just got yesterday to replace the malfunctioning one. But otherwise they saw no problems with the hardware, but acknowledged it must have been the hardware since we tried everything else. Also I would go with a list of all the things you tried with this phone, for your own reference and the genius's, especially if you're not confident in your tech skills Showing the genius that you've tried: different sim cards, updating the software, restoring it from a backup, and now restoring it as a new device, should convince them that you've done everything you could, and the only other answer is hardware problem.
Also if you don't already have one, make a genius appointment ASAP. Most stores are very busy and their appointments fill up fast. I always suggest making an appointment as early as possible, hopefully before the retail store hours when they've only got techs there because they usually are less stressed and have a bit more time to spend with you. The easiest way to make an appointment is to download the Apple Store app. It detects the closest Apple store from you and makes it quite easy to schedule a genius.

After updating with iTunes 12.1 for Windows 8.1, when I restarted my computer, my headphones no longer work. According to my computer they do. Is this an iTunes issue? I did the audio troubleshooting and it says everything is fine. I have a Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7280.

Download/install an app is a know possible solution.
3. Install another app from the App Store
If all user-installed apps are not launching, it could be an Apple ID authorization issue. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information.
Note: If you have installed apps using multiple Apple ID accounts, you may need to perform this step for each account.

• Why do regular stereo mini jack headphones no longer work in macbook pro

I have a macbook pro (2009) v10.9.5, 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo. Lately normal non apple stereo mini jack headphones no longer work. The jack doesn't cut the speaker sound as normal. It wasn't like this until comparatively recently. Apple iphone headphones do work.. is this a software or hardware problem?

That is odd. Try a NVRAM reset:
