Differentiate empty and non-empty pixels

I'm a web developer currently slicing an illustrator file for web graphics. Some of the icons and images have shadows, lights, etc, and it's impossible to simply see by a naked eye which pixels contains some shade or nearly transparent color and which doesn't.
It would be extremely useful if I could somehow easily differentiate between empty and non-empty pixels, so I wouldn't miss any when slicing.
Any advices??

Select the objects you want to cut, pick the artboard tool, and from its presets menu on the control bar choose Fit to Selected Art. In Safe for Web and Devices window, in the Image Size tab, make sure Clip to Artboard is checked. This will cut the image without including any empty (fully transparent) pixels.
edit: Alternatively if you hide unselected art (Shift+Ctrl+Alt+3), in the Safe for Web and Devices with the Clip to Artboard unchecked will cut the selected object/s without including fully transparent pixels. So with this approach you don't have to use artboards.
You can create new artboards for each icon, element, etc, by drawing with the Artboard tool and holding Shift. With the desired objects selected, draw a new artboard anywhere on the document with any size and choose Fit to Selected Art.
You can also see the bounding box that includes all pixels of the selected object/s while the selection tool (black pointer) is the current tool if you the Use Prevew Bounds option is on. This option is available in the General section of the Preferences and also from the flyout menu of the Align panel.

  • Zipping a folder with empty and non empty subfolders

    Hello everybody there,
Right now i am facing the difficulty to zip a folder which is having some empty and non-empty folders within it.
Can anyone suggest me what to do.
I want to do it with java.util.zip package

    Hello, Omke.
I will follow your suggestion and try to request this feature for a future release of Bridge. One thing I thought was that perhaps this is something that could be accomplished with a script. I have seen a few interesting scripts in Adobe's Exchange web page, John Nack's web site and also on Peter Krogh's DAM useful web site. Some of the scripts I have seen on these sites perform tasks that are far more complex (or so they seem) than it would be to simply display the number of images next to each folder.
Good point about what number to display. My folder hierarchy is quite simple. All I have is a main photos folder and inside this folder I have numerous others, each corresponding to a photo shoot/location. In my specific case the number next to each folder would correspond to the number of images in the folder not counting other files whether hidden or not (things like bridge cache, sidecar files and others would not be included in the number).
How easy or difficult would it be to find someone experienced enough with Bridge scripting so as to suggest this project ? What would be the best place to post such a suggestion/request ?
Thank you again for your reply and helpful answer.
    Best regards,
    Joseph

  • AME - Windows Media export, default templates and non-square pixels

In Adobe Media Encoder the default Windows Media export templates have non-square Pixel Aspect Ratio.  In Windows Media Player 9, if you play AME's wmvs with non-square pixels all you get is a vertical line a few pixels wide (though they play fine in WMP10 & 11).
There is definitely a problem with non-square pixels.
Using AME, if you create a PAL wmv (720x576 with DV PAL P.A.R.) you get the display problem in WMP9, whereas a D-1 PAL wmv (768x576 with square P.A.R.) will display fine.  If you encode the same content with exact the same settings (codec, resolution, etc) with Microsoft's Windows Media 9 Encoder, the resultant output plays fine regardless of the P.A.R!
One for you chaps at Adobe I think:
If Windows Media Encoder can create WMP9 compatible wmvs, why can't Adobe Media Encoder?
or if there is a problem with non-square PARs, then why is it an option on export - remove it until it is fixed?
Any support would be greatly appreciated.
    Edmund Barton
I'm using Prem 4.1 with AME 4.1 against Windows ME 9.  WMP9 is the base player we have to support, so upgrading all the players isn't a option.

If you can't upgrade the players, then using Windoes Media Enoder may be your only option.  Adobe just came out with a 4.1 patch, so it's unlikely you'll see any more 'fixes' in the very near future.

  • How to identify Inventory and non inventory items

    Dear all,
what are the ways to differentiate inventoried and non inventoried items.
    please advise. thanks.
    Thanks and regards
    Udaya

he means the purchase order item category which can be seen in transaction ME23N.
You never made clear if you want differentiate in SAP or the physical stock in the warehouse.
As already explained by another one, in SAP you can procure one material number either to stock or to be expensed immediatly while receiving.
However, physically you dont see any difference, you have to take organizational measures to not store expensed material together with material procured to stock.
Even further, you should try to receive items which are not procured to be stored, at a different physical receiving place.
In MIGO transaction at item detail in tab WHERE you will see a storage location if the material is to be stored in your warehouse, but you will not see a location if the material is procured directly to a project or cost center. then you see a receipient instead .

  • Scanning stills in PShop (square vs non-square pixels)

    Hello,
We need to scan hundreds of still photos for a documentary. We've done this before and are familiar with the whole square pixels (PhotoShop) and non-square pixels (FCP). By the way, we're using PhotoShop 7 and FCP 5.
In the past we've adjusted our images in PShop (reducing the height) before importing into FCP, and things have turned out nicely.
But before we tackled this new project, we ran a test and were surprised by the results.
    I don't get the following:
    1. If I make a test image (a red circle) in PShop 7 with an image size of 720x540 pixels, the image looks correctly proportioned in PShop.
    2. If I then make a second test image (the same red circle) -- or duplicate the file from step one -- and then adjust the image size to 720x480, the image looks squished in PShop -- it's an ellipse. But this second version SHOULD be just right for FCP 5.
    3. But when I import both files into FCP 5, they BOTH look just fine. They look exactly the same on the monitor (well, the second one seems to have slightly cleaner edges).
    4. When I analyze each clip's Motion tab, FCP has automatically Distorted the 720x480 PShop file by -12.5 -- and it looks fine: a nice round ball. Meanwhile the 720x480 PShop file (the one adjusted in PShop for FCP) has NO Distortion, looks exactly the same. Both versions are perfectly round in FCP. You can toggle from last frame to first frame across the edit and nothing changes.
Hmmm, is FCP recognizing a sq pixel image and automatically adjusting? And if so, how does it know to distort one file but not the other?
Then it gets more interesting when I scan a test photo and:
    5. I scan an image at 300 dpi (overscanned so we can move on the image in FCP) and the image is 2084x1488. When I bring this image into FCP 5 (or in FCP 4 for that matter) ... anyway, when I bring this image into FCP 5 if looks great even though it has square pixels and has NOT been prepped in PShop for FCP. It has NOT been squished by FCP. When I check the motion tab, it has been scaled down to 34.55% (that's fine) and distorted by -12.5. It's behaving like the round ball test in No. 1 above.
    6. Meanwhile if I take this same image and adjust it for FCP (2084x1324) and bring it into FCP, it looks just right, too. The motion tab shows that FCP has scaled it 38.83% (that's fine) but now it has ALSO distorted it by -12.5. So it is NOT behaving like the ellipse in No. 2 above (which had ZERO distortion)?
Regardless, I wonder if any one can tackle this so we understand what's gong on. And the big question is: Why are we taking that step to prep the PShop files for FCP, if FCP seems to handle either version properly? We'd save a lot of time if we didn' take this step in PShop for hundreds of photos ...
Thanks in advance for taking time to comment. This is a wonderful forum and we're always amazed at how kind and sharing contributors are.
    Brad

"FCP has automatically Distorted the 720x480 PShop file by -12.5"
    That should probably read 720x540.
Yes, FCP does the distortion automatically. It's done this since v3. The problem is, as you've noticed, it doesn't do it nearly so well as Photoshop. Yes, you could let FCP do it for you, but it will soften the image more than you might like. There is also one caveat. This only works for flattened images, images imported as graphics files. Other PSD files with layers or transparency that import as sequences will not be automatically resized when they are placed inside another sequence.

  • I restored my bookmarks from a resent .json file, but one folder is now empty and one is missing.

    Hi,
Because of reasons my computer needed to be refreshed. My old firefox profile folder was saved though, and with that the bookmarkbackups. As the title says I restored my bookmarks from a resent .json file, but one folder (containing probably about a hundred bookmarks) is now empty and one other is missing completely.
In some places I have a 5 levels deep folder structure for my bookmarks, but since the folders missing are from different levels I don't think this is the problem.
The now empty folder contained six or seven other folders, that in turn contained a lot of bookmarks with titles including non-alphanumerical characters. †?|&*()<-/., to be precise. However, if I restore a very old .json (from september 2013) the folders are present and contain the mentioned bookmarks - albeit much fewer, since the file is old. A few other bookmarks still present also contain the mentioned characters, so this is probably not the problem either.
The folder that is completely missing just contained a lot of bookmarks that were to be sorted.
When opening the more recent .json files (I have a whole month of automatic backups to choose from) in the firefox scratchpad it would seem that the bookmarks are missing alltogether, so I suppose that there is not much to do about it (please correct me if I'm wrong), but I definitely want to report the bug.
Is there anything at all to do about it?
    Thanks,
    Hanna

If the bookmarks aren't present in the JSON backup then it is likely that you got a corrupted places.sqlite file at some time that caused the backup not working properly.
Did you try all the backups?
Note that the xxxx part of the bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx.json file name shows the number of bookmarks in the file.

  • When iCal in Leopard starts, it is totally empty and unusable

After booting up and starting iCal, it is always totally empty and unusable (none of the buttons work)... There are no calendars, shared calendars, or subscriptions. Quitting and re-opening usually loads as usual and there is no data loss.
This happened the very first time I upgraded to Leopard (I thought everything was permanently lost) and has been happening since.
Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I had the same problems as many others here and may have stumbled upon an answer.
I had no problems after installing Leopard, mine just occurred in the last day.
I deleted the prefs files and it brought my calendars back but when I tried to view my to dos, as soon as the side window opened, it didn't crash the program (i.e. shut it down) but it was useless and I had to quit anway.
    Delete prefs, start again.
I had a look at the calendars in there to see if this blank "home" and other folder was there and it wasn't. However I did find that a IMAP email account that I use, connected with another organization, was appearing in my list of calendars. I didn't put it there, but it was feeding info to iCal.
Once I disabled the account in mail, all functionality in iCal was restored.
    Hope this helps.

  • Updating a DB table with only non-empty values of a work area

    Hi everybody,
Is that possible in ABAP to update a table in the database with a work area, but only with non-empty values of this work area?
    Example:
    data: ls_custom type ZCUSTOMERS_0.
    ls_custom-CUSTOMER = '20'.
    ls_custom-LASTNAME = 'MyName'.
    ls_custom-FIRSTNAME = ' '.
    ls_custom-CURRENCY = ' '.
update ZCUSTOMERS_0 from ls_custom.  *" I want that the update clause don't do the update with FIRSTNAME  and CURRENCY fields because they have empty values*
If it's possible, how to do it?
    Thanks & regards,
    Abdel

    Total Questions:  81 (66 unresolved)
    Hi,
To my understanding you mean if the database table has values
    customer         20
    lastname          somename
    firstname         firstname
    currency          INR
    so now after this
    data: ls_custom type ZCUSTOMERS_0.
    ls_custom-CUSTOMER = '20'.
    ls_custom-LASTNAME = 'MyName'.
    ls_custom-FIRSTNAME = ' '.
    ls_custom-CURRENCY = ' '.
    update ZCUSTOMERS_0 from ls_custom.
    you want the result as
    customer         20
    lastname          Myname
    firstname         firstname
    currency          INR
Is it so? Then Normal update
    data: ls_custom type ZCUSTOMERS_0.
    ls_custom-CUSTOMER = '20'.
    ls_custom-LASTNAME = 'MyName'.
    update ZCUSTOMERS_0 from ls_custom.
    would do that.
    Thanks,
    Sri.

    Any Help

  • Can I use Boolean parameters and 'is empty ' in smart groups & mail rules?

How do you do the following smartgroup in Mail? State is MA or NH or ME and Email is not 'empty'? I also would like to make the following rule in Mail: If FROM is 'empty' and Subject is 'empty' then move to Trash. In other words is it possible to use invisible charakters <blank> or <empty> and boolean parameters in search fields. Any hits will be appreciated. ---Stefan

I have the same question, plus a couple more. Most of the spam that I get follows one of five simple patterns:
    1. It contains one or more empty fields (to, from, subject, or message body),
    2. It sometimes lacks a "from" or "subject" field entirely.
    3. Mail recipients are sequential (e.g. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]).
    4. Total message size is 0.7 KB or less. (Due to empty fields.)
    5. It contains a gif or jpeg touting whatever product the spammer is flogging.
It seems like it would be trivial to incorporate filter rules to take care of empty or non-existent fields (categories 1 and 2). But I can't see a way to do that in Mail currently. Hopefully Apple is working on this? Or maybe there's a third-party add-on that can address this?
Also it would be easy to take care of #3 with the use of simple grep expressions. But I don't think Mail can do this yet. (Again, any third-party solutions out there?)
For #4, obviously a rule that could take into account message size would help deal with those emails.
And for #5, it's more problematic, but since there are programs out there that can read graphics, hence the need for captcha "encryption" on web sites, why not use such an app as a Mail extension? It would be great if it could interoperate with Mail's rules, so you could set up something like "if message contains a jpeg or gif and if the image contains 'penile enlargement' then delete/put in junk folder."
Currently I put all messages with attachments (that haven't already been approved by my whitelist) in a "limbo" folder for later review. But I have to use a minor kluge to do this. Ideally I'd just say "if message has an attachment" or "if message attachment is not empty," but those options aren't available so I have to say "if name of attachment contains '.'" Since pretty much all files have a "." in them, it seems to work fine, but strictly speaking it's not as elegant as I'd like it to be.

  • Delete non-empty directory: better solution than traversal?

So far, I'm only able to delete a directory via File.delete() when I delete each single file in this directory and recursively in any subdirectories. I wonder if there is a better/easier way to delete non-empty directories?

Yes, it takes a fraction of a second. To be exact: about 0.3 seconds in our cases for each temporary directory with about 1.5 MB content and less than 100 files.
But during big reports with hundreds of pages, each pages producing several such temp directories, this deletion takes about 5-10 seconds for a full report. Now, we have several customers with several users generating reports all over the place and reducing processing time is of good value. 10 seconds less for reports the user is waiting for might not be a big deal for you but for our customers.
I read in some Linux forums that some file systems just remove the root directory out of some tree structure without recursing the whole tree. That's why deletion is so fast and "real deletion" (to not be able to undelete files) is slow. Unfortunately, we have Windows servers ...

  • D7360 won't print in "Black Only", unless color cartridges are also non-empty

I'm trying to print a document in grayscale mode using D7360 Photosmart printer.
In the printing setup dialog am explicitly checking the option to use "Black Print Cartridge Only".
The printer refuses to print, saying:
"The following ink cartridges are empty: Light Cyan. Replace these ink cartridges to resume printing."
"The printer does not have enough ink to ensure printer's health. The empty ink cartridges must be replaced to resume."
Does this mean that even though it is not using the color cartridges, all of them have to be non-empty when the printer is operating?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I think I solved the problem for my PC. I put in a new black cartridge but my color cartridge is empty. My printouts started looking awful and were trying to print in blue. I went to the printer area of the control panel and requested grey scale only. Suddenly my printouts look great, as they did before. I'm running Vista on a Compaq with an HP deskjet D1560 printer.

  • Silent Install -- ignore Non Empty Home

Doing a 10g install in Silent mode and wondering how I can get past the Non Empty home message.
During the interactive install, you simply say ignore or continue. I cleared all of the files in the $ORACLE_HOME prior to the install, but it creates a log file in that directory as that is also the $UNIX_HOME. I cannot change the ORACLE_HOME destination because of backup scripts and cannot do an interactive install. So, does anyone know how to bypass the OUI-10029 message during a silent install using a responsefile?
    Thanks.

    Prakash,
Thank you for the reply.  This error occurs in a previously empty directory.  The oracle installer adds a log and lock directory.  I am using the -force flag only to get around the installer files (not to be confused with the /tmp installer files elsewhere).  I thought about turning validation off but I still need it.
I can't access the bug.  Is there a way to force the installer to not write to the empty directory before it validates that is is empty by writing the log and lock directory elsewhere?
However, with the -novalidation flag the WebLogic 12.1.2.0 silent install is proceeding - I will verify it shortly
