Difficult to correlate results to hardening guide

The list of results is a very good start.
Unfortunately it appears that not ALL the hardening guide items are covered by the free compliance checker.
Also it would be a lot easier if the results included references to the specific hardening item involved, it appears that one must do a lot of reading and skipping around to find the relevant items within the hardening guide spreadsheet...
Also export to spreadsheet or csv would be a good idea...
Thank you, Tom

I have a Brazilian Keyboard and I have the same
problem.
Looks like Sun doesn't want to fix this, it's a old
bug.According to the bug database (link posted above), the bug for Danish keyboards has been fixed in Mustang (Java 1.6, release next year(?)). Maybe your Brazilian keyboard will work too. You can download a beta version of Mustang and try it for yourself:

Or try the latest Mustang build:

  • Looking for a hardening guide or best practices in production for WLS 8.1.6

    Hi,
I'm working to deliver to my government customer best practices in the form of a hardening guide that conforms to NIST SP800-44. I am aware of http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/lockdown/practices.html which adds some great operational tips.
Is anyone aware of other resources, or has delivered anything similar to their customer? I would greatly appreciate any guidance here.
    Thanks,

Hi I would take a guide that covers any version, or other Oracle products.

Thank you for the feedback, the admin guide content will be updated.
ESXi < 5.5 supports replicated disks with size below 2032GB.
ESXi >= 5.5 supports replicated disks with size below ~ 62TB.
The VR 5.5 admin guide also contains the same content, as the one you quoted - see vSphere Replication Limitations
The VR 5.5 release notes mentions the 62TB limit:

Hi, I'm looking for a Security Hardening guide for ESXi 5, alternatively, can someone help me in understanding any new security enhancements in v5 over v4or v3 that would help in updating previous hardening guide?

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!
The vSphere5 Security Hardening guide is not yet available.  With that said, the vSphere 4.1 Hardening Guide is still very relevant and useful.
As for what's new, the below document could be useful

  • Hardening & Keeping Log files in 10.9

I'm not in IT but I'm trying to Harden our Macs to please a client.  I found several Hardening Tips & Guides written for older versions of OS X, but none for 10.9.  Does anyone know of a Hardening Guide written with commands 10.9.
Right now I found a guide written for 10.8 and have been mostly sucessful implementing it except for a couple sticking points.
They suggested keeping security.log files for 30 days, I found out that they got rid of security.log and most of its functionality is in authd.log.  But I can't figure out how to keep authd logs for 30 days.  Does anyone know how I can set this?
I also need to keep install.log for 30 days as well, but not seeing a way to control this in /etc/newsyslog.conf.  Anyone know how to set this as well.
Does anyone know if the following audit flags should still work: lo,ad,fd,fm,-all?
I'm trying to keep system.log & appfirewall.log for 30 days as well, I've figured out these have moved from /etc/newsyslog.conf to etc/asl.conf, but I'm not sure if I've set this correctly. Right now I have added "store_ttl=30" to these 2 lines asl.conf.  Should this work? Is there a better way to do this?
              > system.log mode=0640 format=bsd rotate=seq compress file_max=5M all_max=100M store_ttl=30
              ? [= Facility com.apple.alf.logging] file appfirewall.log file_max=5M all_max=100M store_ttl=30

    Hi Alex...
    Jim,
who came up with this solution????
I got these solutions for creating log files and reconstructing the database from this forum a while back....probably last year sometime.
Up until recently after doing this, there has been
    no
problem - server runs as it should.
I dare to say pure luck.
    The reason I do
this is because if I don't, the server does NOT
automatically create new empty .log files, and
    when
it fills the current log file, it "crashes" with
    the
"unkown mailbox path" displayed for all mailboxes.
I would think you some fundamental underlying issue
    there.
I assume by "unkown mailbox path" problem you mean a
    corrupt cyrus database?
Yes, I believe that db corruption is the case...
You should never ever manually modify anthing inside
cyrus' configuration database. This is just a
    desaster waiting to happen.
If your database gets regularly corrupted, we need to
investigate why. Many possible reasons: related
    processes crashing, disk failure, power
    failure/surges and so on.
Aha!...about a month ago - thinking back to when this problem started - there was a power outage here, over a weekend! The hard drive was "kicked out" of the server box when I returned to work on that Monday....and that's when this problem started!
I suggest you increase the logging level for a few
days and keep an eye on things. Then post log
extracts and /etc/imapd.conf and we'll take it from
    there.
    Alex
    Ok, thanks, will do!
    P.S. Download mailbfr from here:
    http://osx.topicdesk.com/downloads/
This will allow you to easily rebuild if needed and
most important to do proper backups of your mail
    services.
Thanks for that, too. I will check it out and return to this forum with an update in the near future.

  • Refine Edge - Feather  gives stepped and ragged result

Not sure if this has been answered, I can't find anything similar here.
CS2 used to have Select -> Feather and it worked great!
Now, in CS3 we have Select -> Refine Edge and it goes wrong almost as soon as I start moving the Feather slider. When I hit 250 (max) the resulting "Feather" has several extremely uneven and very visible steps in the blend. I usually have to go back and blur the result several times until the steps go away.
Anyone else have this problem? Is there a better way to smooth selections before deleting, filling, coloring, blending, etc
    Thanks,
    Pete

Most images are 8 bit. Scanner is 24 bit. The banding I mention happens with both.
Generally, I select a small area. For instance, my scanner leaves a slightly darker 1/4" strip at the left edge. A slight light fall off in that 1/4" strip down the left side.
I used to make a very narrow selection from top to bottom, at the farthest left I could go. Maybe 1/16" wide, and then feather it greatly. Then I can adjust it lighter and it used to work perfectly. Now with feather edge, I get huge banding.
Also, when feathering a layer, such as a black vignette around the edge of a photo, pushing the feather edge too high up causes extremely noticeable banding.
Why does the feather edge slider go up to 250 if banding is noticeable at 30 or 50?
I need this feature to blend layers and transitions for web design all the time and it always causes huge problems with banding.
Select -> Modify -> feather radius is very difficult to preview results. The Refine Edge preview is great, but the banding is not so great! It happens every time I use it.
To my way of thinking, selection edge feathering is selection edge feathering, no?
    Thanks

  • GUID Conversion between CHAR22 and CHAR32

I am invoking RFC function through XI. GUID type is RAW16.
Result value for GUID is CHAR22. For example: Q9dnXjzNAEoCAAAAChIaKA==.
I want to get CHAR32 value. And I don't know how to convert.
Could you help me with this conversion?
I have used GUID_CONVERT that returns wrong CHAR32 value. CHAR22 for right GUID is GzTdNZpD04e200002X8QAC.

    Hi Ulf,
The rawtohex function you found must be used on an expression inside a graph information models, or inside CE_CALC on scripts. It will probably solve your issue.

  • Problem with guided navigation - Reports not showing up

    Hi All,
We have a dashboard page that has a number of sections based on guided navigation. The problem is that the reports in the sections do not show up even when there are results for the guiding reports unless the page is refreshed. However, the section borders are showing up. Is there any solution for this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Radhika

    Hi Radhika,
As I mentioned earlier i have created 2 reports, but your case is some thing different and you are using the same report for condition also and in the section also.
What we have done is , suppose we want a report in a section to be displayed when my *# Service requests* >20 then
We have created a report with *# Service Requests* with filter condition greater than 20. which we will to define the condition.
and another separate report we to put in the section will be created.
Just try this, not sure is this going to help you.

  • Formatting of the GUID string.

Dear gurus, I already get good help for other problem. I hope to follow guidelines this time.
In our firm we have to deal with the GUID. Now, the GUID come in 3 formats (see the other posting
of the GUID in this newsgroup). I have the several GUIDS as below
    with mydata as (
select '77DB966B620D4FEBB9959D016E0BD590' as guid from dual union
    select '159F25C035E845CFA95CFF4F3365B330' from dual union
    select '0485FA87A2FF445E965333B6980EC176' from dual)
select guid from mydata; Now, instead of the phrase "select guid from mydata" what I wish for is to have the
select regexp_replace(guid, xxxxxxxxxxxx, yyyyyyyyyyyy, zzzzzzzzzzz) from mydata for the following of the result.
    desired result
    select regexp_replace(guid, xxxxxxxxxxxx, yyyyyyyyyyyy, zzzzzzzzzzz) from mydata;

    0485FA87-A2FF-445E-965333B6980EC176
and also desired result - difference in expression
    {77DB966B-620D-4FEB-B995-9D016E0BD590}
    {159F25C0-35E8-45CF-A95C-FF4F3365B330}
{0485FA87-A2FF-445E-965333B6980EC176}the needing is as the follows: put the - (hyphen charachter) at 8, 12, 16, 20 in the GUID string
and also possible choose add the bracket cureley { } at beginning end of string. I am not very strong
(still doing the learning) of the regular expressions. If any guru can help, I would be most grateful.
    Jehangir.

    Hi, Jehangir,
Here's how to do that using REGEXP_REPLACE:
    SELECT  guid               AS raw_guid
    ,     REGEXP_REPLACE ( guid
                     , '{\1-\2-\3-\4}'
                     )     AS formatted_guid
    FROM    mydata
;Results, given the sample data you posted:
    RAW_GUID                         FORMATTED_GUID
    0485FA87A2FF445E965333B6980EC176 {0485FA87-A2FF-445E-965333B6980EC176}
    159F25C035E845CFA95CFF4F3365B330 {159F25C0-35E8-45CF-A95CFF4F3365B330}
77DB966B620D4FEBB9959D016E0BD590 {77DB966B-620D-4FEB-B9959D016E0BD590}In the 3rd argument to REGEXP_REPLACE, the curly brackets have no special meaning. You can use them like any plain character.
You could also get the same results using SUBSTR, which will probably be a little more efficient.

  • Please allow the guides to extend into the rulers like previous versions.

When you place guides onto a document they end at the end of the document. They do not extend into the rulers when placing. It is very difficult/impossible to see where your guide will be placed. For example if you want to place a guide at 5.5, you are guessing because it doesn't extend onto the ruler like it used to.
Additionally, instead of smoothly moving and dropping where you want it to the guides snap to different points, so on top of the problem above, it is impossible to get guides where you want them based on measurements.
