I suspect that you are using DHCP to distribute ip addresses on you LAN and that the MBP has a different ip address today than it did yesterday. You can find the new ip in the Network pane of System Preferences on the MBP. I can't figure out how to find out what the client thinks the ip of the MBP is, though. ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist contains an entry for the last server connected to, for example, but it doesn't seem to include the ip. I deleted a bunch of obsolete files from ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost recently, though, which might have included this so you might look there.
P.S. Why does it also offer me the option to "Fix Alias" for a network item when all that does is open finder for this computers so I can point it at something on the hard drive?
No idea.

To do what?  It's not clear from the question.
If you want to play iTunes library content on the unit you need to enable Home Sharing on both, have them on the same network and then look for your iTunes library under the Computer icon - iTunes must be running of course.
Communications can be blocked by firewalls or security software sometimes.
To factory restore a black AppleTv2 or 3 you connect it to the computer running itunes with a USB to microUSB lead alone and start itunes.

Check to see how much free space there is on the startup disk.
Click the Apple menu icon top left corner in your Desktop. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select the Storage tab.
Make sure there's at least 15% available storage space.

  • Connect Mac Book Pro to my TV

Is there a way I could connect my mac book pro to my LCD TV? I could not find any adapters? I am sure there is a way. I would like to connect using my HDMI slot. Composite or component are fine.

Yes, and it is very easy assuming you have the right cable. The MacBook Pro is the best example, because it uses a standard DVI connection right out the side. What you need is a DVI to HDMI cable. However, there are three types - analog, digital, and integrated. You need digital, but your safest bet is to get integrated, since it supports both digital and analog. These cables are considered DVI-I, and can run you a lot in stores. I got one on Amazon from the vendor SF Planet for under $10 with shipping. Albeit not the highest quality solution, it still outputs fine in HD and is worth the money compared with the $60+ cables you find in electronics stores.

  • Hi, I bought a new Mac Book Pro, very high spec, installed Lion and now the machine is slow, glitchy. how do i wipe it and put Leopard back on it? any help would be great..?

    Hi,
I bought a new Mac Book Pro a couple of months ago the new model, very high spec, i7 processor, 500g solid state drive, 8 gig of ram. all in all a very fast machine. however, i foolishly downloaded OS X Lion and as soon as i did i noticed a considerable difference in the machine basically its ground to a halt, its now slow glitchy programs shut down and crash. I'm new to Mac and in reminded of life in the world of Windows....! any suggestions should i wipe Lion off the machine and re install Leopard? any help would be appreciated..
    Liam

Surely you meant to say that there was nothing in Lion you would prefer over !10.6! - Lion is 10.7.
As for what might be sapping your machines juice - have you run Activity Monitor yet? I always enable 'All Processes' and sort it by %CPU usage if i want to know whats cooking.
In addition to the list Disk Activity might give a hint.
If you are quite low on available disk space it might also be that osx is constantly swapping - best to keep a few GB of free space for it to work with.

  • Connecting mac book pro wirelessly with hp printer

I am unable to connect my new mac book pro with my hp G85xi wirelessly. I am able to connect utilizing my other pc computers (laptop and desktop; this is my first mac). Could anyone provide help with this?

Right now, it's impossible to diagnose your issue. First, I would want to see if your MBP works on another monitor. I'd bring it to an Apple Store, I'm sure they'd let you try. Bring your own cable, just in case that's the issue. If it works there, then you know it's your LG monitor.
Something is wrong with either your monitor or the cable. I don't think it's your MBP.

  • Brand new mac book pro very slow

I just purchased a brand new mac book pro 13" with and i5 processor, 2.3ghz, 4 gb ram, running osX Lion. I bought it to replace my 2008 mac book pro that had a failing hard drive and a bad logic board. So i bought this new mac book 2 days ago, set it up and everything was great until i went to surf the net. My internet is so slow, webpages take ages to load about 5 minutes or more, same with videos (like on youtube). So I tried my old mac book and the internet was running great on that one, same with my roomates old macbook, my boyfriends pc and numerous other devices connected to my wifi (a nook, a tablet, and an iphone). So i checked my network settings everything was good, its was functioning fine according to network diagnostics. After googling this I switched my dns to googles public dns which made no difference either. When plugged directly into the router via ethernet the internet surfs like a champ. If the wireless internet preforms like this my new macbook is somewhat useless to me .Help! What could be the problem? Or did apple just really screw up the airport on these new macs? My old mac was a beast speed wise, i firgure the new mac should put the older ones to shame. What gives?

I suggest use the ethernet cable. They're much faster to transfer. You only need to connect your imac and mbpr directly to each other using the cable.  There is no need for the wifi if you connect the ethernet cable.

  • Mac book pro very hot since jun

    hello,
during 8 month my macbookpro was nice... i work hours during without trouble ...
but since may or jun (juin) ... it become very hot, very rapidly ...
i take fancontrol to "down" the temperature...
i use boot camp too, and under xp it is the same trouble ...
what i have to do ?
because i begin to regrets to have a mac book with this trouble of temperaure so hot
désolé pour l'anglais je suis français =:)

    Bonjour Pierre,
Je regrette, mais ma francaise, c'est mauvais.
    There are several possibilities here.
    1) Is the battery ("accumulateur"?) holding charge properly. A bad battery can cause overheating because the charging system will be working too hard.
    2) Are the fans working properly? Can you hear them when it gets hot? If not, try an "SMC reset - see http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=kb&id=HT1411&viewlocale=fr_FR
    3) Is a "background process" like a virus checker or printer driver hogging cpu time - use "Activity Monitor" ( Moniteur d'activité ) to see if anything unexpected is using too much CPU (Accès au processeur) - see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/fr/mh653.html and http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=kb&id=TS1473&viewlocale=fr_FR

  • Connect mac book pro to tv

What additional cables are neccessary in order to connect a macbook pro to a television?

Depends on exactly what model MacBook Pro you have and what kind of video inputs your TV has.
If yours has a miniDisplayPort video out, then you will need the Apple miniDisplayPort -> DVI adapter plus a DVI -> HDMI cable.  Ditto if your MBP only has a Thunderbolt port.
Here is more information about the Apple adapters
If your TV only has composite or s-video inputs (not DVI or HDMI) then unfortunately you're out of luck.  At least for any cheap solution.

  • How do i connect mac book pro 5.5 to samsung lcd tv (series 5)?

i have a macbook pro 5.5 and tried to connect it to my samsung lcd tv series 5 -  i have mini display port to hdmi cable, hdmi cable and phono to rga cable - i can see screen but cannot hear any sound... can anyone help?
    thanks

I assume you mean rca... what is happening is you're outputting digital sound via your hdmi. Phono or anything analog will not work if you're playing using hdml, because it plays both sound and sends video. what you should do is plug the hdmi cord from your mDP directly into the hd tv, then run whatever sound output the tv has to what i assume is a reciever for sound. Let the tv decode the audio to then output to your "phono" or "rga".

  • CONNECT MAC BOOK PRO 17'' TO TV VIA HDMI

I would like to know how to connect my MBP 17'' to my Panasonic plasma TV. I already have a Mini-Display cord to HDMI connected from my MBP to the TV, but no video or sound is present. Any help would be appreciated - thank you very much.

I don't know. I have used my MBPs with two different TVs and an external monitor without any difficulty. TVs were used with HDMI cables and adaptors for the Mini-DisplayPorts on the MBPs.
Perhaps you need to look in the manual for the TV to see what it suggests.
