Difficulties in printing topics.

When I print a topic from a generated layout, the screen shot
I have is cut off on the right hand side of the screen. The screen
image is 800x600.

Miwon -
800 pixels wide on narrow page margins is about the limit
when it comes to printing an image full size. Seems close to 100
pixels per inch when printing a web page. Some solutions might be
to use your RH Resize tool. It does a nice job of resizing, so you
can still read any text (sometimes, depending on the degree of
reduction).
Or, if you have a primarily IE audience, you can use the
@media print property of css. This way, you can resize your image
only when your users print. Otherwise, it displays full screen.
Here is an example you can try:

  • Print topic window problems on unix

What is used to display the list and status of printers available on unix when using the print topic menu button?
On HPUX, the printer that I am currently using shows up as not accepting jobs even though the lpstat -a says that it is accepting requests.
Any Ideas? Is it something wrong with my system configuration?
I also have a few junk printed names in my list.
Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

That dialog is displayed directly by the Java Runtime Engine. There is no OHJ code involved in fetching the list of printers. I would upgrade to the latest JRE version on your platform, and if it still reproduces, contact the JRE vendor.

I have a Canon Pixma i4700 printer and since buying my iMac I'm finding it difficult to print photographs without a severe warm (red) tone.
    What am I doing wrong?

I can't give you detailed instructions, but there should be a way to print a built-in test page. If the color is off on that, the printer has an internal problem such as a clogged head.

  • Copyright Shown When Printing Topics Only

    Hi All,
I'm told that we used to be able to display a copyright
statement only when the user would print topics using WinHelp. The
copyright would not display when viewing.
I'd like to do same thing using RoboHelp HTML Help. Is there
    a way to do this?
So far I've explored footers and templates but to no avail.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Larry

    Hi Pete,
    Well, it worked great.
First, on getting the compiled Help file to open up, I had to
run MJs Help Diagnostics to get the DLLs registered properly. I
believe the problems cropped in when I installed Flare -- our new
    Help tool.
Then, I was able to get the citation working properly with
your excellent instructions. I placed the following in the style
    sheet for each topic.
    @media screen
    p.copyright { display:none; }
    @media print
    p.copyright { display:block; }
Unfortunately, the Help system currently uses a number of
style sheets rather than just one, but it still only took a couple
minutes to put that code in each .css file.
Then I added the following to the TrueCode of a template
    footer.
    <p class="copyright">Copyright © 2008 Scantron
Corporation. All rights reserved. Use permitted only under license.
No part of the Help may be reproduced in any form, or by any means,
without permission from Scantron Corporation. www.scantron.com
I was able to apply this to all 1700 help topics in one fell
swoop. That saved me a lot of work. At first there was a style
sheet associated with the template file. This switched each topic's
style sheet to the template's when I applied the template to some
sample topics. So I removed the .css file association with the
template, and then it worked like a charm.
Thanks again for the insight. I really didn't think that I
had a chance to provide that functionality when QA requested it.

  • Someone tell me why is it so difficult to print from my Intel Mac Mini

I'm so frusrated at this Intel Mac Mini of mine. I wish honest to God that I never bought this evil little machine.
    I have the following printers:
    HP Photosmart 7550
    HP Laserjet 1012
    Canon MP830
I can't get anything to print! It so **** frustrating. I switched my wife from her WinXP to a Intel Mac Mini (10.4.6). She hates the Mac Mini because she can't print anything.
Why is it so difficult? Please someone enlighten me.
After months (not kidding) of searching on the web I was able to get the Photosmart 7550 to print using one of the gimp drivers, but I couldn't get it to change the paper type or quality. So that tells me I can't print any photos from my Mac. Need to use the WinXP box.
Then I was able to get the 1012 printing by selecting "open using rosetta" for the Printer Setup Utility, and selecting the "HP LaserJet 4 series - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2". So now I could at least print BW docs. Great the Mac Mini is not a total waste. Then I updated software, which include the Mac mini SMC Firmware Update. I don't know what did it, but now I can't print to the 1012 anymore. ARGHH!
I tried deleting the Library/Printer/HP directory, Reseting the Printing System, Restarting the CUPs, Installing PDDs, Installing the gimp drivers. What the ****! Why do I need to do any of this? I thought the Mac was suppose to be so easy. With all those **** commercials talking about how the Mac can do anything a PC can do, you would think one of those things is being able to print.
Those people making those commericals should try using the "Printer Setup Utility" program. That will change their tune. First you have to search for your printer, then pick the Printer Model, and then pick the specific model. And God forbid you click to fast, oops you've now picked a generic printer, needs to start all over again. There's no back button. You've already committed to the generic printer type. Now you have to open the Printer Setup Utility again and delete the generic printer and go search for your printer again. Lame.
Don't get me started with the Canon MP 830. I thought, ok maybe its because the 1012 and 7550 are older printers. I'll go buy a new printer - they must have current drivers for that. Canon tells me that the MP 830 is only a single OS machine, meaning you can only connect it to a windows machine and only other windows machines can print from it, or connect it to a Mac, and only other Macs can use it - Again, Lame.
Really I wanted to love the Mac OS. When I first got it, I was loving it. But what good is it if I can't print. I searched the web and it seems I'm not the only person having issues with printing.
I hate this Intel Mac Mini with every fiber of my being. Ok, maybe my printing woes are only because it's a Intel chip, and the PPC macs are golden. But come on, if you can't print from a computer, what good is it?
Please, someone help me. Otherwise, anybody want to buy a Intel dual core Mac Mini?
mac mini duo core Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You have two different issues: HP and Canon.
I don't know if I believe the Canon people. Windows XP has lots of different print options. Try installing Bonjour on Windows and then setting up a networked, Color Apple Laserwriter PS printer using "http://macmini.local:631" (assuming macmini is the name of your Mac). I have done this before (though not on a Canon). I am sure Canon will only support a standard configuration and this is not quite standard. Give it a try. It doesn't sound like it can hurt anything in your current setup.
For the HP, you might have to just wait for an updated driver from HP. HP has always had this problem. They are a huge printer company and I'm sure they get Apple hardware and OS versions before anybody else in the world. And yet, it seems as if they don't even begin working on their drivers until Apple officially releases a new OS. HP drivers are always the last to show up for a new OS and the first to break. If you get it working under MacOS 10.4.6, and then upgrade to 10.4.7, it is very likely that the HP drivers will stop working.
Unlike some of the other big companies, HP seems to have made the transition from Classic MacOS to MacOS X seamlessly. Their printer driver software works just as well on MacOS X as it did under MacOS.

  • Why is it so difficult to print from Photoshop Elements 11

I had a terrible time printing from PSE9 so upgraded to 11 (of course 12 came out right after I did this).  Printing is worse than going to the dentist.  It takes up to 10 minutes, sometimes more just to get the print set up the way I want it (size, paper type, etc).  And over half the time the entire system locks up.  I am not extremely computer savvie but right now I would tell anyone who asked to stay as far away from this product as possible.  I also hate the Adobe website.  I find it extremely difficult to find what I need when I am looking for support.

What exactly is the problem? Just using File> Print brings up the following dialog box that provides for most options in drop down boxes. The exceptions are usually if you have to go into Advanced printer settings options because of the need to change a setting in the printer driver itself (and that is more down to the printer manufacturer than anything else).

  • Printing Topics using WebHelp

Can someone tell me how to add controls to my WebHelp project

  • WYSIWYG vs. Printing Topic

I'm having problems with the formatting of my numbered list
when I print the selected topic, in both the .xpj file and .chm
file. When I view the topic or print from the WYSIWYG editor, the
numbered list looks fine. However, when I print it, the numbers in
the list are in a different font. I have checked the styles
settings, style sheet, etc and everything looks in order. Any
    ideas?

I printed one topic to check the layout, etc. It's very
strange. If I print from the WYSIWIG editor, it looks fine.
However, iwhen I view it from the .chm file and/or print it, it's
off. Puzzling. Peter didn't seem to have the same provlem when he
viewed the sample I sent him. He suggested I check my IE settings
for font size and/or not to use a style for a numbered list.

  • Printing topics and sub topics

I'm using RoboHelp 7.0. When I generate MS HTML Help a user
can select to print a selected topic or the selected heading and
all the subtopics from the table of contents. When I generate
WebHelp a user can only select to print one topic at a time. Is
there any way to allow a user to print a main heading (book) and
    all the subtopics at once?

  • Why is it so difficult to print a photo?

I have wasted about 20 4x6 pieces of photo paper trying to print a picture!
I have a digital pic that is way larger than 4x6. I want to scale it down and print borderless 4x6, but there must be some magic incantation that I can't figure out!
I have tried to use standard print sizes after cropping the image to 4x6, and it just does not work!
iphoto defaults to paper size of DMSIZEMINUSLETTER, as well as DMSIZE_4x6 (and DMSIZEMINUS4x6), and neither of these options work. I also tried choosing "scale to fit paper size" in paper handling, and selected 4x6, still no go! The picture is either too big, too small, or wrong orientation!
Is this an apple conspiracy to make you buy prints from them?
If anyone can give me some advice to make this work, I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks!

    canon pixma mp620
Your printer shows up a lot in Discussions and the problems seems to indicate driver issues. Canon's download list shows recent updates and upgrades. Interesting, the driver for OS X 10.3-10.5 is up to 7.12.2 as of 6/29/09. there is a new driver for OS X 10.6.
You say Preview print works. I presume you mean you see that 4x6 borderless option in the Preview print Dialogue box. Which suggests your printer driver plays well with your current OS X and points the finger back at iPhoto 6.
Do you have the latest (last update) version of iPhoto6 --- iPhoto 6.0.6?
Have you tried quitting iPhoto and deleting the preference file: (home>Libray>Preferences>com.apple.iPhoto.plist)
It can become corrupted and confuse iPhoto.

  • It is difficult to print pdf files in Firefox.

When viewing a pdf document in the Adobe plugin the Firefox print function does not work. I've seen postings which explain that this function is disabled when Adobe is being used. This begs the question of how IE is able to accomplish this.
I've also seen advice about how to find an Adobe print function. None of them worked for me, but I did find that if I right click from anywhere within the pdf document I get an option to print. Maybe this will be useful for others experiencing the same problem.
It would be good if Firefox's print function would trigger the Adobe print function. This seems to be what happens in IE.

    Two other non-obvious methods:
    * If you move the mouse pointer over the PDF toward the bottom of the window, you usually will get a floating toolbar with buttons to save, print, jump to a particular page, and change the zoom.
    * If you press the Esc key, the "classic" Adobe Reader toolbar may appear.
I'm not sure why Firefox can't print plugin content when the plugin uses the full tab, but I don't know whether it's a high priority to change it.

  • IPhoto 08 makes it difficult to print greeting cards

It seems to me that it should be easier to print greeting cards yourself from iPhoto. I have tried many ways and there are no options to adjust the print size. No one makes paper the correct size, and printing on a Letter sized page doesn't work. In fact, it seems to crop the bottom of the page off even printing on a larger paper.
Has anyone had luck printing cards? The idea of ordering them seems absurd.

Yes, the card feature is designed to encourage ordering thru Apple. If you have a 3rd party image editor that handles layers, like Photoshop Elements for Mac, you can follow Tutorial #8 to print cards.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Laptop difficult finding printer on bootcamp imac

Hello ! Thank you very much for your time !
    Info:
iMac is bootcamp with Windows 7. Printers have been set up and shared on both OSX/Windows on the network. iMac is the main computer.
Drivers have been installed on all computers.
    Problem:
Asus Laptop has difficulty re-connecting to the printer when the iMac is switched between OSX & Windows.
E.g. Printer cannot be found at times.
Does anyone know why this might be happening or a permanent fix?

How do you have the Asus configured? I'm guessing it has 2 different printers set up - one for when the Mac is running OSX and one for when it is running Windows. Also, have you noticed a pattern of failure? For example, if you printed yesterday when the Mac was running OS X and today when you try to print but fail is it running OS X or WIndows?

  • How do I print a topic using skin button?

I have tried achieving this using the toolbarscripts01.js created by Willem Van Weeden on Peter Grainge's site. I've implemented .js in the skin for use with PDFs before, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right, but on click, nothing happens, when it should print. Script and instructions can be found here.
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/twisty/twisty.htm
I'm using RH10 and outputting WebHelp.
I should also mention that I first tried the method called Print Button for WebHelp on this page, but it didn't work either.
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/snippets/snippets.htm#print
Has anyone else successfully created a print topic button in the skin nav bar? Any suggestions for alternatives or what I might be doing wrong?

Neither of the scripts would be there unless they had been tried first.
The first one has a Rh project set up that you can download. First please try that and confirm that it is working there.
Are you testing on generated output rather than preview?
