Difficulties of obtaining informations from some computers

We have installed MAP, we have "run" the first option ("identity computers that ...") but at the end of the inventory, some WMI Status are "Failed - Connection time out" and others are "Failed - RPC Server Unavailable", one is "Failed - Access Denied" and 3 are "Failed - Other Reasons".
We have also seen that "Computers running Windows XP Home edition cannot be inventoried and assessed because remote WMI connections are not allowed to computers running this version of Windows XP".
So we have done a test and apparently the problem comes from Win XP Firewall but we can't disable it on each computer...
1) Can somebody explain me what could be the reasons of each "failed" of WMI status?
2) Has somebody a solution to obtain results (with GPO or anything else) without disabling manually WinXP Firewalls on each computer ?

Yes, the way Sync works is that it puts all the Bookmarks together and pushes them to all your devices. Same with History.

Obtaining information from customers by PDF forms

The organisation I work for is considering designing an electronic interactive PDF form using Adobe Acrobat X Standard. We would like to upload the form to our website from which users could download the form to their PCs.
Obviously, the target audience would include non-technical users so we would like to make the process as simple and intuitive as possible. Therefore, we would like to instruct them to download the form and save it on their PC, fill it in, save the filled in form with a different name and then send it back to us. I know that for a user of Adobe Reader XI all of it would now be possible. I understand that Adobe Reader is a free software but I would like to reassure – are we allowed to implement the above, i.e. build a fillable PDF form, upload it to our website, distribute it by allowing people downloading it and collect information from our customers by obtaining filled in forms by e-mail? Are there any restrictions such as the number of filled in forms received?
We would also like to make sure that this solution is not limited to users of Adobe Reader 11 only but is available to people using older versions of the Reader. I’ve come across some guidance on the following webpage: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/fill-out-pdf-form-or.html but I would like to ask for some clarification. Does it mean that by saving the PDF form in Acrobat as Reader Extended PDF and selecting Enable Forms Fill-In & Save in Adobe Reader would enable those using older versions of the Adobe Reader to fill in and save changes to the form? Are there any restrictions in this case? Any advice would be appreciated.

It's not a realistic option as you will be limited to 500 responses unless you buy a LiveCycle enterprise server package.
You can't apply extended rights to a PDF form (so that users of Adobe Reader X or earlier can save the filled-in data) in Acrobat Standard - that's a Pro feature.

Slow Searches on XServe...from SOME computers

Having a weird issue where I have some computers logging into our XServe that are getting really slow search results. My Macbook gets lightning quick search results, and one of the iMacs we have gets very fast search results as well. However, we have systems that just search and search. Whereas my laptop finds things more or less instantly, our Mac towers (which range from 2x2.66GHz Dual Cores with 5GB of RAM to a Dual 2GHz Power PC G5) take forever on searches.
It's not a network issue, as they can search each others drives very rapidly. And it doesn't appear to be a system software issue, as while I am running Leopard (as is the server), the iMac is running 10.4.11, as are the Mac towers.
Any help would be VERY appreciated - this is incredibly frustrating!!!

Might be a bad idea to discount a network problem so quickly. Speaking of which, is this a wired, wireless or mixed network?
Are you sure that the Macs in question are connected at the speed that you think they are? Do all of the machines take the same physical route to the servers? Are the slow G5s connected to the same physical switch or router? If they are wired have you tried swapping ports on the switch or router to which the Macs are wired?

Unable to obtain inventory from some XP PC's

I am unable to obtain version 7.5 inventory info from a handful of XP PC's. I believe it's something to do with this WifName registry entry which is blank on a PC where I cannot obtain inventory.
I have uninstalled the 7.5 client, deleted the registry contents as it leaves them there, deleted the Asset Management firectory from within program files as it doesn't completely uninstall the directory either, and re-installed from scratch. After the new installation the WifName registry entry is still blank.
I am runing the command manually "cclient.exe scannow:edit". This all works on my PC logged on as me but not on another Pc logged on as me. This rules out the Asset Management server, policies, rights to the registry etc which have all been suggested as problms in previous posts.
The ZAM Client and Collector have full access privileges to the ZAM
portion of the Program Files directory as well as to their own portion of
the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tally Systems
Corp.\TSCensus\CollectionClient.
The ZAM collection client is set in the services to run as a local
system account on ALL PC's.
I believe I need to know why this entry is blank to fix the problem.
Secondly, when I run the Setup.exe program to install the client, it asks for my Server name from which it populates cps.ini like so:-

however when I run the .msi that I found today, it doesn't ask for any info and the cps.ini file looks like this:-

Is this significant?
My colw32.log file also contains the message "failed to get WIF path", all the time on the PC that fails but only sometimes on my PC.

Found out what the problem was. The Windows firewall was switched on for the PC's that didn't work.

Difficulties downloading content via ftp from some web sites

I'm having difficulties ftp'ing content from some web sites when using my Airport Extreme (802.11n) base station. The AEBS is running firmware 7.3.2, is connected to a cable modem, and is configured in NAT mode.
The inability to download is independent of any web browser, OS platform or FTP client). Here's what happens:

downloading with Safari gives:
The error was: “unknown error” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1)
with Firefox: it just hangs the browser, no display
with command line ftp:
421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection.
You get the idea. Windows has similar problems, so it isn't limited to the Mac OS.
Other FTP sites work fine, and things seem to work fine when the system is directly connected to the cable modem. This has happened for a while, so it isn't limited to any recent Mac OS X Leopard updates. It's just gotten terribly annoying.
Is something in the AEBS trying to interpret ftp protocol responses from servers while in NAT mode (and breaking them) instead of passing them through?

It is because the format of these websites may be changed , so it is difficult to extract correct information from these websites.

How do I selectively erase old data from old computers on my Time Capsule to make room for my new computer data?

My new computer did one complete backup on the Time Capsule now I get the message that there is insufficient room to complete further backups.
(128 GB available, my backup size is 170GB but the time capsule is 998GB)
I suspect that information from old computers is there. How do I selectively remove that information or do I have to erase the whole Time Capsule and start over with my new computer and backup again?

Check the info here.. but big warning .. it often fails.. if you want to keep your old backups archive them off the TC to USB drive.. then erase and start fresh clean backup.

DM 3.0.0.665 / Can't delete schema information from PK in relational model

I’m trying to erase schema infromation from primary keys in relational mode by opening Primary Key Properties window and selecting the empty line from “Schema” pull down menu. When I click OK I get the following: "There is a Foreign Key on this Key. The status cold be PK or UK only". I didn’t change anything else, only tried to clear the schema information. This does not happen with every primary key, only some of them, but I haven’t figured out how they differ from each other.
I managed to clear schema information from some primary keys by deleting the schemaObject tag from the xml file. But I still have few primary keys left that didn’t have the schemaObject tag in xml and still have schema name in Primary Key Properties, and I’m not able to choose empty from the Schema pull down menu

Thanks. I logged a bug on this. It looks like the problem is occurring if there is a Foreign Key relationship to the Table with the PK.

The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
Screensavers written for the PowerPC System Preference add-ons
All Unsanity Haxies Browser and other plug-ins
Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5 Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries

In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro , SuperDuper , and Drive Genius work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.

Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
4. Startup your old Mac in Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:
MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)- What to do if migration is unsuccessful;
MacBook Air- Migration Tips and Tricks;

Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.

Failed to obtain image version information from Aperture library

Mac OS X 10.10.1 (yes, Yosemite...)
Aperture 3.6
Lightroom 5.7,1 (CC version)
When trying to import some libraries from aperture I get this immediate response "Failed to obtain image version information from Aperture library".
In the plug-in import window, Number of image/video files is "undetermined", as well as Disk space required.
Tried with different Aperture libraries, but with the same negative result.
The plug-in worked in previous Lightroom version or when it was a stand alone plug-in.

OK, here is the workaround I did to migrate all my images.
1. I broke down my Aperture library into separate libraries based on year (highlight all the 2014 projects, for example, right click, and "export to library")
2. Import each separate library into Lightroom, one at a time.
3. Delete the year-based libraries - and leave your original library on the drive (in case you need it in the future).
I found I had one project in my 2013 photos which was causing Lightroom's scan of my database to fail. So I ended up creating metadata riders for that one project and imported it after I got the rest of my images imported.

Changing from dev to standard edition causes "Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user error code 0x6e."

We recently upgrade our SQL Server 2012 SP1 (64bit) dev edition to standard edition, after we purchased the required licence and it was deployed in production.
Since the edition change, we are now receiving the following error, with some of our jobs, which have an e-mail step in them, which is causing the jobs to fail.
Msg 14661,Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_send_dbmail, Line 517
Query execution failed: Msg 15404, Level 16, State 19, Server BL-SVR15, Line 1
Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'BLUELIZARD\savaa', error code 0x6e.
Any ideas how to fix this issue? We were also having a similar error, when executing the jobs, but changing the job owner to SA has fixed this issue.

Which user account you used for SQL Server service, domain account or local account?
If it is domain account, are you able to log in to a machine with it?
Make sure that the password of account is not expired.
Also, grant the user Allowed to Authenticate permission and see how it helps.

Only way to get it back is to restore your phone from a backup, if those pics were included in that backup.
But most likely those pics are gone.
What you should've done was import http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 the pics to your computer and after you restored from your old backup, you could sync those new pics to your phone via itunes.
