Difficulties using an iPod Nano

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I'm having trouble using my nano that I ordered on 14th September.
The trouble is that when my Nano was delivered from the apple store (18 September), it was already broken, I then had to wait seven days for Apple to send the the packaging "You must use or they will return the nano unrepaired", so I sent it back the same day (25 September)and the Apple engineers said it was broken on 26 September and that a new one was to be shipped.
According to the support website, NINE days later they still haven't shipped me one, even though I emailed them asking to send me a new Nano, or give me my money back so I can buy something else.
So I gave Apple my money on 14 September, and I haven't ever had one that can even play a single track. Maybe the Administrator of this forum can do something before they delete my entry???

You can always update your version of iTunes to 4.9 or 5.0 and it won't affect your existing playlists, song ratings, or anything. I started with 4.7 and got each updated version of iTunes as it came out thru 5.0 and I never lost any songs, data, or had to rebuild a playlist.

    I would recommend setting up Manually manage music.  This will only allow music to be synced from the computer to the iPod nano.  Here are some helpful articles that will walk you through the process.

         I use an iPod nano 5th generation. I have had it for about two years now and after about one year, I plugged in my iPod into my computer to sync more music. Here is the problem: The tab where you go to sync music to your iPod and shows the list of artists and songs you want to sync to the iPod, the tab I can get to but the list of songs and artists does not show up and the only way I can sync music to my iPod is to basically wipe my iPod and start from scratch. Obviously, I do not want to do that because I do not have all the songs in my library that I have on my iPod. I have uninstalled iTunes and then re-installed it, but it did not work and I do not know what else to do. I would really appreciate helpful guidance to get it fixed if it can be fixed.     All works fine (beautiful sound) but only some of the remote control functions work.
    Volume and power off/on and treble/bass work fine but the iPod functions like skip and FF and playlists and menu dont work from the remote control.
    The company that make the amp (TLA) and the dealer (Audio T) both inform me that this is a common problem with remote controls on 3rd party iPod dock hi-fi systems and that Apple are not revealing when they will issue a software fix.
    It only happens with 2nd gen Nanos. All other iPod types talk with these remotes with no problem.
    I have been given a temporary 'workaround' by the manufacturer which is OK for now.
    Have any of you had similar problems between the 2nd generation Nano and remote controls on 3rd party (non Apple) hifi systems?

    No, you don't. You can rip music to your computer and sync it to your Nano.

    I have a MAC OS X at home and a PC with Windows XP at work. I have been using my Ipod Nano at home for quite a lon time, but I have tried to use it at work for the first time.
    However, when I try to see the music content on my PC, it says that my Ipod is formatted for MAC and that I need to reformat it if I want to use it with the PC.
    The problem is that if I reformat it, I will lose all its content and I am afraid to be obliged to reformat it when I want to connect it to my MAC again.
    How can I do to be able to use my Ipod with my MAC and with my PC?

    If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. Macs can read Windows drives so you could restore and format the iPod on a PC. Strictly speaking using a Windows formatted iPod on a Mac isn't supported however many people use one without any issue. iTunes will allow you to use an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac; however, Apple currently only supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews: XPlay 2

    No. I'm sorry. But, i think it uses the headphones as an antenna so it has to be plugged in to headphones in order to make it work. but, it burns the battery down so i don't use the radio function that much.

  • I had an iPod nano and then got a classic iPod, which then broke. So I wanted to start using my iPod nano again. I still have the same iTunes account, but when I try to sync this iPod with my iTunes nothing happens.

    The music that was on this nano when I stopped using it a few years ago is still on it, and I want to replace it with other songs that I've added to my iTunes since then.

    iPods (except for iPod touch) are not linked to any iTunes "account."  They are associated with your iTunes library. The account in iTunes is your Apple ID, and that is used to buy and download content from the iTunes Store.  It is not required to use an iPod.
    The 1st (and 2nd) gen shuffle can only be used with one iTunes library at a time.  When you connect it, iTunes should prompt you to start using it with your iTunes library, and warn that the shuffle's existing content will be erased.  Have iTunes erase the shuffle, and it will be associated with your iTunes library going forward.  You can then add content to your shuffle.
    The need for the previous owner's Apple ID and password should only come up if you are trying to transfer existing content from the shuffle to your iTunes library, AND the previous owner had content purchased from the iTunes Store.  Just cancel out of that step, if iTunes asks.
