Difficulties w/ itunes, safari and OSX 10.5.6

can't use itunes without safari 4.03. can't get safari 4.03 without OS upgrade. any ideas?

Download Combo update 10.5.8 and install. it includes Safari 4 for a start, then make sure your security updates, Java updates, etc. are up to date by checking through software updates in your system preferences, but don't download and install them from there, go to Apple Support Downloads and get them from there.

  • I keep getting the itunes update message and when I accept the terms and conditions it just keeps going back to tell me I have 3 updates itunes, safari and icloud and goes back to accept message without actually downloading?

What is going on with itunes update?  I keep getting the message that updates are available for itunes, safari and icloud, but when I accept the terms and conditions and the install 3 items message, it keeps going back to telling me there are 3 updates available and have to accept terms and conditions again without it ever installing!! I am using a PC with windows vista.  Have not had this problem till December when I got an ipad and had icloud installed, don't know if there is a connection.

I can't offer any help but it soulds like Apple goofed with the latest update. Many of us have the same problem. I may wait a week or so to see if Apple responds.

  • The App store, FaceTime, iTunes, Safari and Camera are all missing from my iPad.  Restrictions are not enabled and when they are those applications are grayed out.  I have tried everything but restoring my iPad to its orginal condition. What do I do?

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Backing up, Updating and Restoring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these steps and you still have issues...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Since Safari update, ichat, itunes, safari and update don't work.

    I've got a weird one . . .
I ran the software update this morning for the new Safari, as well as iTunes. At the end of the download, I got an error message saying iTunes worked, but the Safari update was not successful. It then made me restart. After restart, software update refuses to open, as do Safari, mail, iChat, and iTunes. Third party programs run fine, as do iCal, iPhoto, etc. Firefox works fine. I downloaded the Safari update package off Apple's site via Firefox, but the package "unexpectedly quits." I'm thinking the failed update screwed everything up, but if I can't open a package installer OR the software update program, how the heck am I supposed to fix it?
    I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on a Powerbook G4.

    Not so weird, Travis.
It is happening to many of us. G5 tower 10.4.11
So the update killed iChat, Mail, itunes, safari, dictionary any apple installer, software update, as well as programs like cocktail, onyx and many others too numerous to name here.
My update didn't have an error message.
Here is what I have done:
Dumped all the prefs, tried to find corrupted fonts=none, cleaned font cache, repaired permissions (I always do this before I install any apple stuff), repaired disk, did that from the main drive and from a laptop with the G5 as a target disk. Made new users=nothing.
Started in safe mode and used terminal to fsk the HD.
NOw I will try to install safari from the laptop to see if safari is the rascal.
Disappointed in the whole thing, basically I am stuck with no mail, no apple Tv, and although there are work arounds, this is not what I need, Thanks Apple!

  • Safari and osx 10.2.8

Having problems installing and using Safari with an older os. 10.2.8.
I've removed Safari and installed version 1.0. Can't find any upgrades after that are compatable with that os. Can anyone point me to the latest version I can use with 10.2.8? Safari is crashing often, and doesn't have many of the latest features, although I don't expect to get many using the older OS. Is Safari 1.0.3 the most recent compatable version?
I also removed Safari after reinstalling the OS and updating from 10.2.2 to 10.2.8.
    Thanks
    Dual G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Thanks
    I was afraid of that.
Any idea why the app seems so unstable at this point? Just clicking on a link at MSN.com causes a shutdown of Safari... I remember Safari working fine when I had installed it originally. maybe because I installed it after the updates???
Wondering if there's any way to do a fully fresh install.
    Thanks again in advance.

  • I'm dumb:  How to tab to form elements in Safari (and OSX in general)

How do I tab to a checkbox on a form in Safari? Tabbing to textfields works ok and buttons too, but no go on checkboxes. On an x86 box (windoze) I can tab to a checkbox and hit the spacebar to tick that element. I'm fairly new to OSX and have noticed this in other parts of the UI besides Safari.
    Thanks,
    Derek

Open up Keyboard & Mouse in System Preferences. Click on Keyboard Shorcuts. At the bottom of the window, check off "All controls". Close System Preferences. That should do it.

  • Create a New Bookmark Folder and it Crashes Safari AND OSX !

This has happened to me many time and is extremely frustrating. When I create a new bookmark folder I will get a pinwheel and then all my applications applications lock up and I have to reboot the computer to regain control. I can move the mouse around, but even force quitting safari does not fix unlock the OS, even as extremely difficult it is to make it do that.
This used to happen to me on my old 2007 macbook and I was frustrated with it and its slow speed so I upgraded to a new $2000 iMac i5 and have only had it for a few weeks and it is happening on this new computer as well !!
The Safari version is 5.0.2 (6533.18.5)
What is going on here? This is not acceptable!

    HI,
If Safari is crashing, post a crash report so we can try and help.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Now copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply here. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

If you migrated files from the MacBook to the iMac, that could be part of the problem.

Third party unsupported Safari add-ons can cause performance issues with Safari. If you had any installed on the MacBook and copied files over, you may have brought the same problem over to the iMac. Post a crash report ...

  • IPhoto, iTunes, Safari and iChat all quit seconds after being launched

iTunes, iPhoto, Safari, Quicktime... all quit (with no error) after launching. I noticed this after importing images from my digcam into iPhoto.
Any ideas? I've run diskutility, repaired the disk and repaired permissions.
    Mac OS X v10.4.9
    iTunes 7.1.1
    iPhoto 6.0.6

    Greg:
The preference file gets recreated the next time iPhoto is launched and does not affect the contents of the library as such. The key file is the library database Library6.iPhoto. It probably got damaged during the crashing.
You can try to recover the library by rebuilding the library. I don't think it will but definitely work a try. Here's how: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
If that doesn't help then you'll have to start over with a new library and import the original files from the old library. Here's how:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Safari and OSX 10.5.5

I was having problems with Safari not working correctly, so I tried to reinstall it. That would not work so I deleted it and went out to Apple and downloaded Safari 3.1.2, and when I try to install it is said I must have 10.5.2 or later. I am running 10.5.5. So now I am using Firefox. Any ideas???

I was having problems with Safari not working correctly…so I deleted it.
There was nothing wrong with Safari, so you shouldn't have deleted it. On a PeeCee, the typical way to fix something is to delete it and reinstall it but this is a Mac, and rarely will that be necessary or even have a prayer of working. Don't create more problems for yourself by doing this; leave well enough alone and work on fixing the real problem. Apple does not make full applications available for download on their web site, and the file name for what you downloaded clearly says it's an updater, so that would tell you it won't work anyway.
If you want to reinstall Safari, here's what you need to do:
    1. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and delete any receipts for the Safari application.
    2. Insert your Mac OS X install disc, navigate to the Optional Installs folder and open the Optional Installs.mpkg file.
    3. Check the box to install Safari only and run the installer. This will install Safari 3.0.4.
    4. Download the 10.5.5 Update or 10.5.5 Combo Update and install it again; this should update Safari to 3.1.2.
    5. Repair Permissions.

  • Safari and OSX

I did the OS X.5.1 update on two computers. One works OK, except that one website that formerly worked causes Safari to crash merely by going to it.
The more important problem is on my PowerBook. Every time I attempt to open Safari I get a message that says, "You cannot use the application "Safari" with this version of Mac OS X." This is similar to, but not quite the same as, the many problems that others have reported.
Another thread suggests going to ~Library/inputmanagers and removing everything there, but I don't have that folder.

The house icon is the same folder that has my name associated with it. There's no folder "application enhancers." There's a folder "Application Support" that has subfolders associated with numerous programs. However, there's nothing there for Safari.

  • FaceTime crashing while talking followed by inability to connect after dialling and iTunes, safari and app store not responding. Problem resolved when iPad  2 restored through iTunes in windows pc but reappearing later.

FaceTime crashing while talking followed by inability to reconnect when dialling (cut off when person answers). Once this happens, iTunes, app store drop off after initially responding. Whole issue resolved when ad restored while connected to iTunes on windows computer, just to reappear later if FaceTime used!

  • Disguising Safari and OSX

I want to view this page, http://www.mtvu.com/uber/index.jhtml?name=woodies&id=1544689&vid=117150 , but an error message says the page is not currently supported on the Macintosh platform.
How can I get the site to recognise my Mac as Windows IE?
Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

In most instances, MTV is not a Mac-friendly site, regardless of browser, and especially for video content. Very surprising given how the creative community embraces the Mac Platform. Because it's video, you won't be able to "trick" the site into disguising the site as a Window machine or browser.
I guess you options are either loading Windows into your machine so you can use IE for Windows, or use a PC. You may consider contacting the site developer voicing your displeasure.

  • Looking for e-mail that supports Safari and OSX Mail client.

I've noticed that some email applications don't support Safari so a lot of the nice features are not available, even on paid subscriptions such as Yahoo! plus which is $20 per year. Is there one that does support Sarari that doesn't limit the features?

Never got an answer so I contacted my Satellite provider to use their e-mail set up for my Mac Mail client. I guess that provider is as good as any.

  • Itunes skips and osx nearly freezes when macbook is knocked

the title kind of explains it?
It didnt happen on my old pc?
    why should it happen now?
    help me out

These macbooks park the drive heads when they sense being knocked. Your older PC probably did not. The theory is that parking the heads during movement will prevent the disk from crashing hard should the jolt be too intense.
When the heads park, the drive is no longer accessing the data, thus the near freeze.
