Difficulties with Airport Express and Printing

Here's my situation:
I have a Time Capsule through which comes my internet access which is then sent around my house wirelessly. This is downstairs at the point where my phone line comes in. My computer (iMac) is upstairs, on the wireless network. Internet, Time Capsule backup etc. works fine. I have purchased an Airport Express which I wish to use to print with my printer (a HP- which is also upstairs nearby the computer) via USB rather than having the printer plugged via a USB connection in to my computer. I believe I have set up the AE properly, plugged in the printer via USB to it but it does not print.
So, what am I doing wrong ? I thought that the AE would be picking up whatever wireless signal is being sent out by both the computer and the Time Capsule and would pick up the instruction to print
So, have I got this all wrong ? If you've a similar set up and have worked it out, please give me the benefit of your experience !
Thanks.

I just replaced my Airport Extreme and my expresses had to be reconfigured. I have done that and my express which is set up for being a part of my network as a USB hub for printing. Light is green and seen in my Airport Utility. However, when I go to print, it tells me "device is in use, waiting..." and never gets past that point. Any great thoughts about how to fix?

  • Need help with Airport Express and so on.

Ok so my main problem before getting into what I need help with here is that our MacBooks and now my iPhone 6 plus isn't staying online. Keep getting booted off and then I either have to select the network again or it will eventually go back on. If anyone has a solution or so please feel free to answer that as well. I'm running on Roadrunner with a Netgear 600 wireless router and a motorola modem. Both of which I'll leave the link to below for a better look.
My Main Question: So I'm looking at a new wireless router mainly and possibly a new modem. I know Apple products are trustworthy but how good is the Airport Express and other Airport products. Also what is the Maximum speed and Maximum data speed for the cheapest express station and if anyone knows the speeds of the other devices it would be greatly appreciated.

DSL Router to Netgear 5-port Switch and I used the switch to connect to Airport Extreme, TV, Blue-Ray DVD player and DirecTV Receiver.
The AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is a router so it will do what you need.
You need to reconfigure your setup. Connect the WAN port of the AEBS to the DSL router. Then connect the Netgear switch to one of the LAN ports on the AEBS. The AEBS will properly share the connection.

  • Problem with Airport Express and HP PSC 1410

Please I really need help. I just bought a HP PSC 1410 (all in one) and I connected on Airport Express and I can't print trought it. I tried to connect it by USB and it work perfectly. When you want to had the printer in printer utility you can find the right driver for the printer. Rendez-vous can find it but you can not install it...
I tried many different way but it never worked.
    please help me ???

I suggest you return the PSC1410 for refund, or for credit towards the purchase of another printer. This printer will not work when connected via an Airport Express. When you purchase your next printer, chose one found on the unofficial compatibility list at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html
In general, all-in-one printers are poor choices for connecting via an Airport Express. Even if you do get them to work, you can only make use of their printing function.

  • How to extend wireless with airport express and time capsule

So, I have a time capsule & because of the thick walls in my apartment, I can barely use my ipad and iphone at night in my bedroom! (my macbookPRO stays at 3 bars however!)
I bought an airport express thinking I could plug it closer to or inside my bedroom to boost the signal - but it doesn't seem to work that way - any tips on how to set this up?
    TWO ADDITIONAL Qs:
Does connecting directly to my time capsule (which i'm assuming i'd need another ethernet cable) help with the boost? (then negates the other great uses for the airport express it seems)
Isn't there a way to do the boost with the express wirelessly? I'd really love to get wireless speakers, use airplay AND be able to use my devices just two rooms away ....   HELP!
thanks so much (when did apple phone support start to be closed on Sundays?)
    cheers.

Suggest that you check your setup again to make sure that the settings are correct on both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express.
Open AirPort Utility, select the Time Capsule and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Make sure that a check mark is entered next to "Allow this network to be extended".( If the box is not checked, the Time Capsule will not extend to the AirPort Express)
Click Update to save your settings and close AirPort Utility
Next, open AirPort Utility again, select the AirPort Express and click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab
    Settings should look like this:
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the Time Capsule network
Check mark entered next to "Allow wireless clients"
Wireless Security = Same setting as the Time Capsule
Wireless Password = Same password as the Time Capsule network
    Confirm Password
Update to save settings and close AirPort Utility
Locate the AirPort Express approximately half way between the Time Capsule and area that needs more wireless coverage. You may need to experiment on placement to find the best compomise.
    Post back on your results.

  • Hi-fi separates with Airport Express and Airtunes

Hi, please could you tell me whether it is possible to use a hi-fi separates system with airport express? it doesnt seem possible to me but i thought i would ask.
    regards
    ste bond

Ah. Much clearer to this antipodian now
If you have a look at page 15 of the Setup Guide for Airport Express, available at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpressSetupGuide.pdf - it shows the connections it can be made to plug into.
Every hi-fi system I've seen has stereo RCA jacks (red and white plugs) on the back for accepting auxiliary inputs. You'll just need to get the appropriate cable from your supplier of choice. If you system is more modern, using fibre optic cabling may be a better option (avoids ground loops, avoids multiple analog/digital conversions, etc).
You can only use iTunes to send sound to the Airport Express, unless you get a third party application like AirFoil (from http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/ ), so technically "what I like" would need to be restricted to that which you had in iTunes, but basically, yes.

  • Extending network with Airport Express and Airport Extreme (latest models) causes chaos on network

Today I upgraded from my several year old Airport Extreme (3rd gen) and 2nd gen Airport Express to a new (what you'd buy on the shelf today) Airport Extreme and Airport Express.  All airports are updated with the latest firmware and I'm using windows 7 for configuration.
The intention is to use the Airport Extreme as the main router, also serving wifi. And extend the network using the express. As such, the following has been done:
The Airport Extreme is configured for automatic channel, and automatic radio mode. I tried to select 802.11n 5 ghz and 802.11 n 2.4 ghz only, but it won't take the changes. Additionally, it wont' accept me using only channel 6. Not sure why, but I digress. The airport extreme is not set to broadcast a separate name for the 5ghz network.
The Airport Express is configured to use bridge mode, use an existing wireless network and is connected to my network on it's WAN port (the circle icon on the back) with ethernet. The password and wireless name used in configuration is the same as created initially on the Airport Extreme.
Initially I did the configuration of both airports on my computer, connected by ethernet to ensure stable connectivity while I inputted settings. During this, they appeared to accept the changes fine. However, when I moved the airport express to it's destination (other side of my house), the entire network went crazy.
Internet became slow, and often wouldn't load pages. This was on wired and wireless connections. When I attempted to administer the Airport in the Utility, they would not load, an error would occur. Also, at one point the Airport Extreme had renamed it self with a (2) at the end. Which was super odd. So far, the only solution has been to unplug the Airport Express and attempt to devise a solution.
Anyone have any ideas? Of course, I will continue to tinker with this, but it seems realllly strange. The previous setup was also extended (granted, using wireless only, not ethernet > wireless) and worked fine, granted it was a smidge slow, but it worked.

I wanted to add this.. I followed the guide here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4260 to extend using ethernet, and the above is the result.
I just tried re configuring in OS X Mavericks and got the same, odd, result.

  • Conflicts with Airport Express and Time Capsule

I am using Airport Express and Time Capsule at the same time. Connection to the web is via a router. Very often I do have conflicts. How shall I connect the gadgets? At the moment I connect the router to Airport Express (network cable).
Time machine back up doesn't work properly.
Is there anybody able to help me?
    Regards

What broadband type do you have?
It can be impossible to plug a TC into the existing connection because the virgin media router has special setup or logins which are not revealed to end users.
If it is a fibre connection for instance the TC may simply not work. They have issues with many fibre ISP putting the gateway address outside the subnet of the main public IP.. (don't worry if it is too technical .. it amounts to .. it don't work! )
You may need to wait until Sat.

  • WDS setup with Airport Express and other(non-Apple) wireless router

    Hi,
I am trying to configure a wireless network with one airport express and one Planex Wireless access point. Can anyone please point me to the settings to be made for such a scenario? I can use either of them as the main WDS device, and have a (wired)router provided by the ISP in the network.(so total 3 devices : airport, planex a/p , ISP router)
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, both with a Linksys WRVS4400Nv2, and a WRT54G. I've not put much effort into the WRT, but the WRVS was such a pain that I don't think I can get it to work at all.
The WRT doesn't have a section on WDS, but I've read that it's supported anyways, and nothing needs to be enabled on it. Is there a good step-by-step available here or elsewhere that uses close to the same router and Airport Express units, on the latest Airport setup software?
Basically, I'm trying to set this up for a guy in an ~8000 sq. foot house so he has wireless throughout it, and he wants itunes streaming from the AX. Has anyone done this?

  • 3 powerline adaptors with airport express and extreme

    Hi all,
I am currently using two airport express and 2 TP-LINK powerline adaptors to create a "roaming" network, however i would like to add another powerline adaptor and an airport extreme to my network.
Modem -> Airport Extreme in the living room with an ethernet cable plugged into the powerline
1st Airport Express plugged into the 2nd powerline adaptor
3rd Airport Express plugged into the 3rd powerline adaptor
so my question is will the above setup work? or do i need to connect another powerline adaptor into the main Airport Extreme making the whole network use a total of 4 powerline adaptors? however if only a total of 3 powerline adaptors are required, would the network be confused and render the whole network useless?

To set up the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) as a bridge, either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility, make these settings:
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection tab
    Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update to apply the new settings
AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - iTunes Setup
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    Network Name: <existing AEBSn's wireless network>
Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup >Music
    Enable AirPlay (checked)
iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    Verify Password: (optional)
Click Update to write the new settings to the AX

  • WDS with Airport express and Dual ethernet Airport base

Can the airport express and dual ethernet airport base create a wds? I can't find the options on the airport base's software.

coloradoapple, Welcome to the discussion area!
The Dual Ethernet (snow) AirPort base station (ABS) does not support WDS.
Only the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and AirPort Express (AX) support WDS.

  • Problems with Airport Express and Extreme

  • XP with AirPort Express and WDS ... works brilliant!!! Read how to ...

I have worked out an interesting setup which uses max. power of AE with my 3Com Router, Dell and Denon AVR-4306.
It took some hours of testing and finding the right configs, which was a pain in my brain. But now: YEEEHAAA!
    My home setup is:
    - AirPort Express 6.3
    - 3Com OfficeConnect Model 3CRWDR100B-72
    IMPORTANT: IT SUPPORTS WDS!!!
    - Dell Inspiron 9300 with WLAN
    - Epson Stylus Color 740
    - DENON AVR-4306 [Receiver with Ethernet connection]
Till yesterday I used AE as a client which turns off the ethernet port. And I had a router without WDS support. AND: I had those audio drop outs which made no fun.
The new configuration at the end is not such complicated.
AE is connected by WDS to my router, by Toslink and ethernet cable to my receiver. A printer by USB of course.
    Now I am able to:
    - WLAN stream AAC by Dell with AirTunes through AE to my receiver
    - WLAN printing
    - WLAN config of my receiver and internet radio streaming
    - write that posting by WLAN and DSL ... STRIKE!
AND THE BEST: NO AUDIO DROP OUTS ANYMORE!!!
    The configuration:
I will not discribe the WLAN setup between my Dell and 3Com in all details because this should be a basic knowledge.
First I configure router and Dell with WEP. I didn't test WPA with WDS yet. I set the router to my ISP settings to get connection to DSL. The router config by webbrowser is not complex. This is done by the shipped manual. DHCP turned on etc..
Next step I will setup my DELL for WLAN connection to the router. My router eg. just uses WEP HEX. I can use a ASCII passphrase but this will be converted to HEX. What's now important: I had to use HEX also for DELL WLAN config and AE WITHOUT "$" before the key what's often discribed in the web. Otherwise AE config will give an error message and ASCII will prevent connection by WEP. I set my DELL to IP by DHCP. I use the same ISSD of the router and set WEP. The first setup was done by ethernet cable which is discribed in my manual. After all steps I turned off LAN and am able to connect to WLAN DSL.
    Now the important part:
I configured the router after config and restart of AE again. The router MUST SUPPORT WDS!!! Otherwise my config will not work. In my 3Com config I turn on WDS and scan for AE when it is set up right. This will grab the right MAC address automatically. But it's also possible to set the AE MAC manually and then:
I will do a AE reset by holding down the reset button till the yellow light flashes fast. This will set the AE to basic settings. After a while you will recognize the AE's factory name in your WLAN network list on your PC where you also see your router WLAN connection.
Now drop the router connection by connecting to AE which is unprotected.
    Open the AirPort Admin Utility.
    Choose the factory AE name.
    Open the config.
Change the password of your AE which is basic "public" to the SAME of your router.
Choose „AirPort“ and set „Wireless Mode“ to „Create a Wireless Network“.
Eg. I use for „Network Name“: „DELL9300“ which matches with the SSID of the router.
Set „Channel“ to „1“ [it seems most robust here].
Set „Wireless Security“ with WEP. In my case I have to use the router's HEX key.
On page „Internet“ set „Connect using“ to „AirPort (WDS)“.
The „MAC Address“ MUST be the MAC address of the WLAN router, BUT THE WLAN ADDRESS ... NOT LAN ADDRESS!!!
[this was one trap and time killer because I just tried to use the printed MAC address on my routers label which is WRONG because there's a WLAN MAC ADDRESS I found by accident in my router's config overview]
Activate „Also allow wireless client computers“.
    I use a static IP:
    IP 192.168.1.200
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
    Router 192.168.1.1
    DNS 192.168.1.1
On page “Network” activate “Distribute IP addresses”.
On page „WDS“ set to „remote base station“.
    Activate „Allow wireless client computers“.
You will recognize here that the WLAN MAC address was copied automatically.
On page "Music" activate AirTunes and define a name. In my case "DENON".
Save the config to harddrive and then save it to AE.
    AE will restart automatically.
NOW PRAY! If everything is done right you will reconnect your PC to the router [automatically because AE is dropped or try manually] and after a while the AE lamp shows "green".
The full power of AE is unlocked and ... actually ... AirTunes still plays without drop outs. GREAT! This could also be router related or WDS works generally better than client mode.

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can be configured in a number of ways when the topic is around extending.
If you just want to support wired clients, you can configure the AXn as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AXn would "join" an existing wireless network and share that connection via its Ethernet port.
The other option is to configure the AXn to extend another AirPort. In this configuration, the AXn would both extend the other AirPort's wireless range, but it would also have its Ethernet port enabled for wired clients.

  • Advice to extend range from Time Capsule - wireless and ethernet with Airport Express and Airport Extreme

Current wireless network is Time Capsule (connected to a Cisco router, 1GB switch to servers and printer 1) to Airport Express (wireless) and to Airport Extreme (wireless). Distance means poor signal at the Extreme which has 2 printers (ethernet cables) and an iMac (wireless)
Solution is to connect the Extreme to the Time Capsule via Cat 6 ethernet cable
How do I configure the TC and the Extreme?
I will keep the Express for a wireless extension to the TC

Wired Ethernet from the TC to the AirPort Extreme will result in much better performance.  It sounds as if you are not configuring the AirPort Extreme correctly.
Please try the following steps carefully:
Unplug the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Exteme if it is not already unplugged. With the AirPort Extreme powered on, hold in the reset button on the Extreme for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart
Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the Extreme.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click on AirPort Extreme.
The example below displays an AirPort Express. You will see AirPort Extreme.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Extreme will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the Exterme and click Next
Wait a minute while AirPort Setup configures everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
That's it.  Pretty simple.  Things should be working fine now.
