Difficulty downloading images into iphoto 11

I am unable to import a load of photos into iphoto11. I've tried rebuilding my library using  iphoto manager and importing via Image Capture as well. When I click import all I get the message "cannot import photos because there was an error downloading an image”.
When I try importing one-by-one I get the message “The file is an unrecognized format” although it’s a jpeg .

To anwser the two questions you asked-
1.  How can we delete the entire import and start over? : You may select all media in Elements Organizer grid (which he imported from iPhoto) and hit Delete key
2.  What is the correct way to move these images into the elements organizer? : The correct way is what he already did. Actually the folder naming convention is same as that of iPhoto. If you see the package contents of iPhoto Library, these folders can be seen there as well. When importing in Elements Organizer, it creates a copy of the iPhoto folder structure and then imports in the catalog.
Thanks

  • Can't import Canon G12 RAW images into iPhoto 6.0.6

unable to import Canon G12 RAW images into iPhoto 6.0.6 (Mac OS-X (10.5.8) - any ideas?

You'll need to install the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.5 - Search the Support/Downloads site for that.
It still may not work. Iphoto 6 is an elderly piece of software now and predates your camera by several years. If it doesn't work you'll need to update to iPhoto 09 or later.

  • How can I stop downloading pictures into iPhoto and start down loading into a portable hard drive?

You could use the Image Capture application.

  • Can't drag or import images into iPhoto

For some reason, I can't drag images into iPhoto or importing by going to "Add t olibrary"
As opposed to many people I have no problems draggin in jpgs from my computer, but I can't bring in images that iPhoto has sored from my didigtal camera.
In other words, when I import pictures from my digital camera (a regular Sony camera) it imports them no problem, and then stores them in separate folders. But if I ever want to grab images from those folders and drag them back into iPhoto it won't let me.

Try making a direct shortcut to the Organizer and then the Editor.
You should then be able to drag and drop on to the desktop icon.
On Windows right click on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Organizer application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
Inside the Adobe >> Photoshop Elements Organizer (yellow folder) you are looking for an application file “PhotoshopEementsOrganizer” with six small icons (e.g. representing thumbnails - could be different in PSE5 but look for the exe file)
    Select it and click OK
    Click next
Rename by taking out Photoshop Elements leaving just the word Organizer
    Then click finish
You should now be able to launch directly form the desktop by double clicking on the icon.
You can set up a similar direct link to the Editor application.

You may be attempting to Share (export) the movie from the Event Library. You need to create a Project, drag clips (or segments of clips) from the Event to the Project, then use the Share menu to export the Project. Movie clips can't be exported directly from the Event. Clips you add to a Project reference (point to) the clips in the associated Event (or Events).

  • There are 3 users on my iMac.  how does each backup their iPhone and download pictures into iPhoto?

There are 3 users on my iMac.  How does each backup their iPhone on iTunes and download pictures into iPhoto?

If they are using three separate Mac accounts, then they have three iTunes libraries and three iPhoto libraries, so it just works.
If they are trying to share one Mac Account, they probably want to switch to separate accounts.

  • Can i import "all images" into iphoto to create a new library?

somehow about 4000 photos out of 10000 disappeared when I moved to the newest iphoto and attached my external hard drive with the old iphoto library to it and switched between libraries using alt to open it.  i was unable to get iphoto to see the missing 4000 even though they were in all images.
i went to all images on the new mac and dragged it into iphoto and created a new library.
it seemed to work but then a few hours later when i looked at my photos they are all just faces!!!!!!!! and in all images the photos are all just faces too.
    what on earth is this?

i am trying to understand why so many of my photos in the library seem to be just faces
Because you imported the face thumbnails into iPhoto as noted several times
    As My first post explained
All images is just that - a list of all images on your computer - all photos (two or three versions of each in iPhoto), the faces thumbnails, and probably icons and other images that have nothing to do with iPhoto
No bug - simply user error
Yes you can create a new library from the photos in the masters folder
But first try to rebuild the database again - if that does not work this time download iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  and use it's rebuild command and see how it does - that will create a totally new liberary leaving your existing one untouched so you can go back to it if needed

  • Rebuild/Redownload Web Gallery Images into iPhoto?

I have a web gallery that has 312 pictures, but I maybe only see about 50 of them within iPhoto. Is there a way I can get iPhoto to download those pictures again from the iDisk gallery? They show up in iDisk as well. I just don't want to have to delete the gallery and then have the people who contributed to it to have to re-upload the pictures.
    Suggestions?

I figured out what it was... 4 images were uploaded to the web gallery with a semicolon (;) in the name. After removing those 4 images, I was finally able to retrieve all the rest of the images from the web gallery into iPhoto without issue. I then renamed the images and re-added them back to the web gallery.

  • A way to automatically transfer newly downloaded photos into iPhoto?

I download load a lot of random photos and it is a pain to download them to the hard drive and then import them into iphoto. Is there a way (possibly through automator) for me (when I download a new photo) to automatically import it into iPhoto?

It is a database - not a file manager
It is not fragile - few people who follow the rules ever have a problem - the prime rule is do not ever change the contents of the iPhoto database (iPhoto library) - except with iPhoto
Hardware or software failures can damage the database and therefore is it important to have backups - but then that is true of all computer files
Why use it - the power of the database - I can show you all photos that I took in Cortona Italy in a second - or all photos of my wife and grandson taken in 2006 - or of my granddaughter at a birthday party - of gather and export for a digital frame all photos of my mother -- etc, etc, etc
Plus it makes great keepsakes (I do books of vacations now that we keep on our coffee table and look through instead of photo albums that we never go back to)
And it creates and maintains web albums
It is a fun and very powerful program
There is nothing wrong with Picasa - lots of people use it - it just is nothing like iPhoto
Before you make a decision create a small (100 - 200 photos) iPhoto library and assign faces and places and keywords and play with it - you may find that you like it
As to duplicates - it make no duplicates - it does have two or three (if you have made any modifications) versions of a photo
iPhoto maintains your original photo unchanged - the digital negative - so you always have it available - it does make a small thumbnail for display and when you modify a photo it keeps one modified version - it uses non destructive editing so each edit goes back to the digital negative eliminating the progressive degradation of an image created by multiple edits in other programs.

  • Can't import any images into iPhoto

    Hello,
I am on my honeymoon and trying to offload pictures from my camera but have found that I can not import any pictures into iPhoto. I am unable to import any file, not just the ones on my camera. I have tried jpgs, gifs, and pngs from various sources and none of them import.
So far I have tried holding down option and creating a new library, deleting the plists, rebooting, and reapplying the latest iPhoto update. Does anyone else have suggestions for me to try?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Import image into iPhoto

Hi, I'm trying to assign a folder action to a folder I drop random stuff into. I want to sort out images, and import them into iPhoto, then delete the file.
I'm by no means a good programmer, I've tried to put this together with help from random scripts I've found search for this. I'd like to know if anyone could tell me what's wrong with the script:
    Here it is:
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
if the name of aFile contains {".jpg"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".gif"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".png"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".pict"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".tiff"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".gif"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".psd"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".bmp"} then
    tell application "iPhoto"
import from added_items to (the first album whose name is "New images")
    delay 5
select (the first album whose name is "New images")
    end tell
tell application "Finder" to delete added_items
    end if
    end adding folder items to

property tAlbum : "New images" -- Destination 'iPhoto' album.
property gList : {"bmp", "gif", "jpg", "jpeg", "pict", "png", "psd", "tif", "tiff"} -- List of graphic file extension. Note: Removed unwanted additions.
on adding folder items to tFolder after receiving tItems -- Obtain name of folder and items droppped onto folder.
repeat with i in tItems -- Cycle through the added items.
try -- Capture, and ignore, any AppleScript error(s).
-- When individual items' 'name extension' matches an item in 'dList' then import into 'iPhoto'. Into the first 'New images' album.
if (gList contains (name extension of (info for i))) then
tell application "iPhoto" to import from i to (first album whose name is tAlbum) -- Import 'i' into 'iPhoto's 'tAlbum'
    delay 2.0 -- Wait two (2) seconds.
    end if
    end try
    end repeat
try -- Capture, and ignore, any AppleScript error(s).
tell application "Finder" to delete tItems -- Delete recently dragged items
    end try
    tell application "iPhoto"
activate -- 'iPhoto' is front most process.
select (first album whose name is tAlbum) -- Display contents of first 'tAlbum' album.
    end tell
    end adding folder items to

  • Imported images into Iphoto not showing up

I have just downloaded pictures from my camera and loaded them into Iphoto. When I try to view the pictures some of them show up but others only show as thumbnails. When I click on them to increase the size or edit them, they only show this ! sign.
    Please help....
    thanks josh

    Josh:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The "!" occurs when the path to the original file is broken. Are the files that show the "!" portrait oriented and does your camera have the auto-rotate feature? If yes to both questions try selecting them and do a Photos->Revert to Original menu option on them. See if that will fix it.
If the answer is no to the above questions, try rebuilding the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
If that doesn't help, you may have to start over with a fresh library and import the Originals folder from the old one. If you have to do that and have a lot of keywords and comments attached to your photos I suggest you try the following work flow:
1 - follow the first Steps 1 thru 7 in Tutorial #1. When done continue with...
    2 -
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane. You will also keep the keywords and comments.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I save an image into iPhoto?

My goal is to save some pictures from Facebook into iPhoto. I have an "event" or album or whatever in iPhoto that I want to add these pictures to. When I save the picture iPhoto is not an option; I tried to copy and paste, that didn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Some web sites it's possible to drag a copy of the picture off the site and drop it onto the Desktop area, thus making a file which can be Imported into iPhoto's Library.
Some web sites the images are part of the background and thus can't be removed, but you can use
    Command Shift 4
to draw a rectangle around the image and click, a screenshot will appear on the Desktop.
