Difficulty finding my outgoing mail server setting...

Hello, could you help please?
I am trying to get my email set up again  at home having just bought a new computer. My previous computer died and I do not have a record of all the settings.
The email address I use is @oceanfree.net and my email comes from a server oceanfree.net in Dublin. BT, however, as part of my pacakge here, sends out my email, making it - I am pretty sure - my outgoing mail server. I can't find here, however, what the settings for this are.
Thunderbird, to set up my email, is asking me to fill in the following settings for the outgoing server:
Description:
Server Name:
Connection security (the options here are none, START TLS or SSl/TLS):
Authentication method (the options are 'password, transmitted securely, 'encrypted password','Kerberos/GSSAPI' or 'NTLM'):
User Name:
I can guess at some of these but others I just don't know. Can you please point me in the right direction?
Best Regards,
Conor Joyce

Most current Mac systems have a preloaded set of information and settings for the common email providers.  Try just choosing gmail and enter your userid and password at the prompts and see if the preload configures correctly for you.

  • What is my outgoing mail server for setting up a new account in Mail?

Hi, I'm trying to set up a new account in Mail so that I check my school e-mail from that application and I've figured out what my incoming mail server is, but what where would I find the outgoing mail server if I want to send through Mail?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Ask the company providing you internet juice to get online. If it is Comcast, it typically is smtp.comcast.net or mail.comcast.net. If it is Verizon, it is outgoing.verizon.net. If it is someone else it is some SMTP server that is assigned by the company that you pay your bills to get online with.

  • Outgoing mail server- Using Coldfusion developer edition server

Can anyone tell me how I can find the outgoing mail server on
    my computer?
I am using the training from the source book, and I attempted
to find it in Outlook Express, but it is not saved in there,
because I never use that program.
How else can I find the outgoing mail server for sending SMTP
mail messages using the Coldfusion developer edition?
    Thanks,
    Aarati

On a standard windows machine running IIS then the IP address
    127.0.0.1 will
    access the default smtp client.

  • Outgoing mail server settings for tiscali email

I have a Nokia 5230 operating over the UK Vodafone network.
I can receive emails on Nokia Email Messaging to my tiscali.co.uk email address but cannot send them.
Please does anyone know what the outgoing mail server setting should be?  Presumably this should be a Nokia or Vodafone server rather than a tiscali one.
    Thanks

    @JohnMayhew
Have you tried using your Vodafone 360 login to use the 360 outgoing server?
    -SMTP server:smtp.360.com
-Username and Password are the same as for the 360 account
    -Requires SSL
    -Uses port 465

  • Hey guys! I went to Mexico over spring break and messed up my email settings. Now I can't send any emails what so ever, but I can get them. It says that an outgoing mail server smpt.live has failed. So...I need help! I haven't sent an email since march!

    #emailhelp

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • Can I set my iCloud email as the outgoing mail server for my google apps email account in Mac Mail?

I have a google apps email account from an old client, all my work emails have been going to it for years. As I'm no longer affiliated with this client I'd like to make a transition to using my iCloud account for work. I asked people to use my iCloud address but as they've been using my google apps address for years it's what automatically comes up when they type my name.
I figure the easiest way to make a transition is if I reply to all the emails that arrive at my old address from my iCloud address and gradually they will start using my new address without realising it. But I can't find a simple way to do this.
In Mac Mail preferences > accounts > Google IMAP (my old account name) > Account information > Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) I'd like to set my iCloud SMTP server. But although my iCloud account uses its own outgoing mail server for its own account , it is not in the server list when I select my google account. I've tried to add it to the server list as smtp.mail.me.com but it caused my whole iCloud account to give me error messages until I force quit Mail...
    Any ideas?

In iCloud/Mail, have you tried going to Preferences (select with gear at lower left)/Composing and setting a Send from address there?

  • HT201320 What am i supposed to put as the incoming mail server and the outgoing mail server when setting up my email?

I'm tryingt to set up my email through my school account and i'm not sure what it means when i'm asked to enter a incoming mail server and an outgoing mail server. Help would be appreciated thanks

Since no one here has any idea about what type of mail your school offers...you don't mention what school...your question, as asked, can't be answered. What don't you contact your school's IT dept., or look online. Most schools have instructions on how to do so online.

  • Trying to add my thunderbird work email account to my new iphone, how do I find my "incoming mail server" and "outgoing mail server" host names?

Got a new Iphone 6 and I need to add my work thunderbird email account onto the phone. It is asking me for the host name of my incoming and outgoing mail server and I have no idea what this means- please help!

First off there is no such thing as a Thunderbird email account. Email providers issue email accounts and Thunderbird is email client software and not a provider.
You can look at the server settings in Thunderbird to see the settings it is using or you could get a list from your provider.
In Thunderbird go to the menu bar and select Tools-Account Settings-Server Settings to see the Inbound settings and Tools-Server Settings-Outbging Server(SMTP) for Outbound settings.
No menu bar with Tools showing? Press the alt key.

  • Mail is demanding "a preferred outgoing mail server", but in MAIL; help, it doesn't exist.

I finally got mail working for the first time in three years, but everytime I log in, it pops up an error window over an old message, and says it couldn't be sent because I don't have "a preferred outgoing mail server". Now how would you find out how to set that and fix this? It doesn't exist in preferences, so I clicked open "Help", and searched the phrase; "preferred outgoing mail server". It doesn't exist. Anybody, want to fill this unapple gap?

Do you have a server specified in Preferenes > Accounts?

  • Outgoing mail server appears blocked by mobile network

I have already contacted Roadrunner to find out why the host name in the Outgoing Mail Server--mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com will not work.  They state that it should read mobile-server.roadrunner.com.  When I typed that in, it reverted back to the original phrase, and they said to get in contact with the mobile network.  There must be a block in it.  We tried a different port, however, that did not work either.  Has anyone had this problem?  I am receiving emails from roadrunner without incident.

Try deleting the account and selecting manual set up.  Also you can also try using an email app from the play store like k9 mail.

  • Should outgoing mail server default to .mac?

I cannot find setting to have .mac as default mail server.
    Powerbook G4 512ram 1.67ghtz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

The default sending account for a new message and the outgoing mail server used with an account are different things.
Tiger Mail includes a default account selection for send new mail from.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Composing and under Addressing, you can select a default account for "Send new mail from".

  • Outgoing Mail Server from Network Location

If there a way to set Mail's 'Outgoing Mail Server' based on the currently selected 'Network Location'?
In my case, my home ISP blocks port 25 so I need to pass mac.com mail through the ISP. Then, when at work, my home ISP won't accept SMTP from my work address so I end up using mail.mac.com directly. I'd like the switch to occur based on my changing of the 'Network Location'

  • Godaddy mail, outgoing mail server

I accidentally deleted my e-mail accounts. I was able to add back in my roadrunner accounts but I am having problems setting up my e-mail address for godaddy. I have the outgoing mail sever set as: smtpout.secureserver.net:[email protected] but I get an error message saying that the server cannot be contacted on the default port. Select a difereing outgoing mail server. Any suggestsions?

Your way is the way the Apple store set up the account when I bought the domain. But in any event, I've given up using the Godaddy account for email purposes. I still wonder if what I was told is true - that you have to pay extra to be able to get mail because I thhink it's a shame to get a Godaddy account only to be able send mail, not receive mail. In any event, I set up an alias account under the mobile me account and plan to use this since I don't have to pay an extra fee. Please feel free to correct me if my impressions about having to pay extra to get mail is wrong. I tried to dig through Godaddy's web site and can't find anything about it.
