Difficulty in downloading oracle 8i (Pe)on windows xp

So that we may better diagnose DOWNLOAD problems, please provide the following information.
- server name I do not know but it is the default server of Windows -Xp Professional
- Filename It is giving message that error in creating default_home data gatherer and default_home agent
It is also showing file not found on C: i.e. \orant\network\agent\config\nmicconf.tmp
- Date/Time 19-10-02
- Browser + Version Internet Explorer 6
- O/S + Version Windows Xp-Professional Edition
- Error Msg I have already written it under file name. Moreover, after 28% download, it is jumping to 100% straightaway without creating database and if after repeated attempts, if is created, there is no provision of starting the database the next time when I log in
I also wish to say that network facilities under windows component is not installed rightnow. It includes
simple Tcp\ip services & listener. Please tell me how compatible Oracle 8.1.5.0 is with Xp.

What username and password are you using to login ? If the user is not a dba and startup or shutdown is in progress then oracle will give this error.
When you restart the server the service of oracle will also start if you set it as automatic. This start of service will start the database if configure database to get up automatically with service startup. As you have installed the software and created the database with DBCA all the things will be automatic.
May be you attempt to login during service startup. Go to Windows services and check for the database service by name OracleService<yoursid>.
sometimes even if the service got started, the database will take some more time to get up.
fyi,
you can also start and stop the oracle service from the prompt as follows...
start
c:\> net start oracleserviceorcl
stop
c:\>net stop oracleserviceorcl

If the platform is XP Prof. You have to stop the services before you de-install the modules. To complete clean up the Oracle installation, after you run the Oracle installer, you have to remove the key in Windows registery and then remove all the related directories.
The "getting started for windows" document has a detailed instruction of how to do this (from stopping oracle services to deleting directories). I tried it at least twice, it works.

In my company there is a forms 6i server, now we want to move it to a new server for upgrade operations. for now we want to install forms 6i version on windows server 2003. on quick search I found it for xp but none for windows server 2003. if I try to install xp version I got "javai.dll is not valid" error.
how can I download it ? Company has license information also. what should I do ? for ex should I open a SR on metalink or something like that ?

Downloading oracle 9i database for windows xp

I am working on winXP-32 bit. I have downloaded for winxp-64bit.
When I tried to run setup file it is saying it is not a valid 32 bit application.
If I have to download for winxp-32 bit , there are 3 zip files. Actually I want only the standard edition. Cant I download only standard edition? Should I download all 3 zip files for standard edition? Please help me out.

You need to download all 3 zip files, since the installer decides which files have to installed from the three installation "disk" files, if you're refering to this link:

I downloaded the above software, but when I try to open the zip file, I get a message saying "cannot open file, it does not appear to be a valid archive". The size of the zip file downloaded is about 57meg. I tried to download a number of times with the same result.

Oracle Personal Edition for Windows 98 onto a Windows ME machine

After downloading Oracle Personal Edition for Windows 98 onto a Windows ME machine I had to alter the win.ini file to get a valid stage. After instatlation when I go to start database I get a warning cannot open registry
\SID_LIST and then a "cannot attach to oracle 8i" error maessage. Anyone got any ideas- my oracle home is the C:\ drive

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

I am using Repository Creation Utility (RCU) to create schema and load repository in Oracle database for Fusion Middleware components. In order to create schema and load repository to an Oracle database,Oracle strongly recommends using AL32UTF8 as the database character set.
Hence I need to install database version 10.2.0.4.0 in 10g or version equal to higher than 11.1.0.7.0 with the database character set AL32UTF8. But the Oracle Database Software Download url available through OTN do not list
oracle 10.2.0.4.0 or oracle 11.1.0.7 for Microsoft Windows (32-bit).
Appreciate if anyone can provide me any other alternate location, from where I can download oracle 10.2.0.4.0 or oracle 11.1.0.7 for Microsoft Windows (32-bit).

10.2.0.4 and 11.1.0.7 are patchsets, available on MOS/metalink only (you need a valid support contract). There's only the exception for Windows 2008,here you can get this versions on OTN.
But who did you tell characterset AL32UTF8 is not available in the basis versions?

I have tried downloading Oracle Database 11 G Release 2 both the zip files 1 and 2 but while I have unzip the files, File 2 easily has been unzipped and File 1 gives an error *"_Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive. If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again"*_
I had spent approximately 15 hrs for downloading the same but evertime it gives the above error. Tell me how should I go about the same and succeeding to install Oracle Database 11 G Release 2. Also this is the same with the Documentation zip file.
Please inform me in steps as to how I should do the installation.

I heard just now that Windows vista has been stopped by microsoft according to my dealers and Windows 7 is only available.
According to microsoft site, I had learnt that there are various editions:
1.1 Windows 7 Starter
1.2 Windows 7 Home Basic
1.3 Windows 7 Home Premium
1.4 Windows 7 Professional
1.5 Windows 7 Enterprise

Previously, I have done the Oracle 9i OCP Certification course from SQL STAR International and worked as Oracle 9i DBA in the back end and VB and VC ++ in the front end before Year 2008
Now, I have seen that companies have upgraded to latest OS, Databases etc and I will have start learning the Oracle 11 G Release 2 and I will also need the correct book with CD. You can check
