Difficulty installing a Time Capsule

I'm having difficulty installing a new Time Capsule. It did not configur automatically, but trying a few things, it finally configured after I set "connection sharing off (bridge mode)". I can now access the internet from my MacBook, but still cannot from my Parallels machine (a Windows 2000 virtual machine on my MacBook). Also I seem to have lost the abililty to read my .Mac mail into the "Mail" program. Any ideas?
Also, how am I meant to se the disk in the Time Capsule? It doesn't appear in my Finder window. I'm not running OSX 10.5, so won't be using Time Machine.

You will find the setup difficult by wireless.. once setup you do not need to use an ethernet.. but it sure makes life hard not using it for setup.

Not sure what you mean by "stretched", but the Time Capsule can certainly be wall mounted. Apple sells the wall mounting brackets:

  • Problems to install the time capsule

    Hey everyone,
I really need your all help! I bought a time capsule and now I want to install it at my macbook pro. But everytime I try this I cant.
It shows that I cannot install the time capsule at the macintosh hd 10.9.1!! And that the Mac OS X version cannot be supported at this volume.
    Do you have any hints?
    Please help me!!

If the TC is new.. I don't understand the error message.. as it will most certainly work on any version 6 of the airport utility in Mavericks.
See if you can do it manually.. I have just posted full details of the setup.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5703308?tstart=0
    If that doesn't work..
Please give a lot more info.
What model TC is it.. you bought a brand new AC version?
What is the existing broadband setup? Modem and router?
How are you attempting the setup?

  • Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what amI doing wrong?

Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what am I doing wrong?

It's possible the reason it seems so slow, is that a backup might be in progress - and since it's the first backup everything on the disk is something that Time Machine is backing up and is being transferred across the WiFi at the same time as you're trying to use your Internet. So you're competing with Time Machine data flying across your WiFi along with your internet stuff. So if this is indeed what is happening (look at Time Machine to see if a backup is in progress), either pause the backup to a more convienent time or live with the slowness till the backup is done this first time, and after that you probably will not notice the "competition" on your WiFi. I like to schedule the Time Machine backups to late at night rather than once an hour (the default), but that schedule should be whatever you feel most comfortable with.
There is a handy free utility called "TimeMachine Editor" that you can get from http://timesoftware.free.fr/timemachineeditor/ that lets you create your own customized backup schedule. You can create several schedules to fit your working conditions. I've used it for several years with never a problem. I don't have anything to do with the company - just a happy user.
    Good luck...

There is no value bsGN in a Time Capsule.
Where is this request coming from?
    Please give a screenshot.
Who is the ISP? What kind of modem is it?
I can find no info relevant to bsGN .. you will need to give us specifics or ring your ISP about it.
Is bsGN even English?? Is it the ISP name??

  • Clean install and time capsule restore question

    Hello apple community,
This is my first post ever, so here goes nothing..
I have a 2010 MBP and I want to do a clean install of lion.  The reason is: 1. I just want to, and 2. I have noticed some performance issues due to all the crap I have downloaded throughout my time in college.
I have not made a Lion install disk because I do not have the media to put it on.  So I am thinking about doing a clean install of SL (which I have the disk for) and then doing all the updates, etc..  (sounds painful, doesnt it?)
The MAIN reason I am posting this, is to ask:  After I complete my clean install, can I access my time capsule and recover individual files (pictures, music, movies, ect..)?  Or do I have to select "recover from time machine back-up" during my clean install?  To me that last option seems silly and pointless, but I am unsure if I can access my back ups after doing a clean install.  I would really hate to pull the trigger and find out that I cannot get to my files.
-Also, assuming that I CAN access my idividual files on my time capsule, are there any limits to what I can restore?  I'd like to restore apps that I didn't get thru the app store (school stuff).
Thanks, I really appreciate the input.
    Matt.

You can access the Time Machine data outside the GUI. If you have a Time Capsule, you will go into its hard disk through Finder and mount the sparsebundle. Once mounted, you can choose a date and any file. Drag and drop.
You may run into permissions issues, so it is imperative that if you modify permissions for a folder you do not modify the home folder or its immediate folders. For example, if your short name is "murdauch", which contains Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc., you would neither modify the permissions for /users/murdauch/ nor /users/username/documents/. Instead, you might modify the permissions for /users/murdauch/documents/recovered-from-backup/.

  • I am not sure if I installed my Time Capsule property

    Hello everyone.
I've just bought my TC, and I installed. Unfortunately I am not sure if I installed in aproperty way because I don't understand how it works, so I will explain everything in detail.
I have Internet through Verizon, they gave me an ADSL2 + Versalink, my understanding is that this is not a Router, is that right?
I connected my TC through the ADSL2 with an Ethernet cable, then I plugged in my TC to thepower
After a few minutes I could see a wizard in my iMac so I started to set up.
I gave a name to my TC and I gave a password, but when the wizard asked me if I wanted to create a new net, or if I wanted to replace an old one, etc. I chose the second one “ I want to replace the old one with myTC”.
After that I didn’t know what to do, so I wrote the same name of my Internet connection that I already had into the wizard and the same password, and all the other information I left in the same way. Finally the wizard asked me that I need to disconnect the old router, but I didn’t do anything because I didn't know what it had to be disconected so I only make a click to next.
Then asked me if I wanted to make the first backup, so I did it.
I started my back up and it show me that it will take 24 days, so I left it over night and then I check it and it said that it will take16 days, so I gave up and stopped the back up process.
I plugged out my TC to the ADSL2 and because my iMac and my ADSL2 are in the opposite site of the room I had to plug into my iMac leaving without ADSL connection.  I started the back up and it looks good it only going to take 9 hours, I am thinking in return the TC to the ADSL plug after finish the first back up.
    These are my questions:
    1. When I stopped the back up and started the new one, was it wrong? Because it looked that restarted where the other back up was stopped.
    2. If my TC is disconnected to the ADSL2 Ethernet cable, why am I still having Internet connection? It does mean that I should have internet to the Time Capsule.
    3. Should I start all the process again? If so, what should I do? I mean should I reset all the information including the first backup to the TC? Could I do that and how?
Thanks you for the patient in reading all this informationI hope that you can help me.

    I think you are confused..
A time capsule does nothing.. it is a back up location for Time Machine..
It does not backup anything by itself. It is a dumb as a board hard disk in a router.
Your mini and MBP should be setup to backup to the TC using TM.
iphone and ipad do not backup to the TC at all.. they backup to cloud or itunes.
    See Apple documents.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Windows has a built in backup software.. if you have pro version it should be able to backup to the TC. But I would recommend against it. Use a USB drive plugged into the win8 machine and format it NTFS as a standard windows disk and backup to that. Mixing backups and data on the TC is not a good idea.
When you move the TC has to be reset to factory.. for whatever is your new network setup in the new apt. A factory reset will not erase the disk of the TC which is immune to anything outside of a deliberate erase via the airport utility with confirmation.

  • How do I install Airport Time Capsule with ATT Uverse when two of my modems are wireless?

I recently purchased an Airport Time Capsule so that I can back up multiple Apple devices. I currently have ATT Uverse and my internet provider. Also, two of my modems are wireless. How can I set up the Time Capsule so the the two wireless modems will still work?

I think you are using wrong terminology so can I ask exactly what is the model number of the wireless modem??
The Uverse is already a router.. and I guess you have cable service.. so there is no need for more modems.. more likely you mean you have two wireless routers and these should be setup as Wireless Access Points.. (WAP or AP). If they are working as routers then you have far too many routers. If they are working as modems you have far too many modems.
It is impossible to tell you how to setup the TC until we know what the setup is.
But let me suggest the most straight forward approach is to plug the TC into the Uverse by ethernet (it cannot be used by wireless.. so this is necessary). Run the TC in bridge mode.. and create a wireless network. Test if you then can access it from your network client devices and do backups from Macs.. if so there is no need for the wireless modems.. leave them off.

  • Can't backup on my Time Machine installed on Time Capsule

I use to manage all my time machine backups on the Time Capsule.
From some days until now, I noticed that the Time Machine scheduled backups just abort in the middle of the process, after it scans the files to backup.
My Time Machine is working properly and therefore I can also access to my Time Capsule when I use it as as wireless hard drive.
When it is starting backup, Time Machine disk is mounted on my MAC.
Any ideas on what is going on?

  • After installing Lion, Time Capsule backed-up my mac, but unfortunately it deleted all my old beck up!! I think it's terrible, what was the point than to have time capsule??now I lost all my back up with no warning....

Be crafull with updating to Lion.
I lost all my backup and my mac got realy slow...
Any suggestion if it is possible after all to recover my old back up from the time capsule?  I guess it lost though.

Mount and open the internal disk of the Time Capsule.  How many "sparsebundle" files do you see?  If you only have one Mac using Time Machine but you see two such files, then one of them has your old data.  In this case you may have missed a chance to continue using the old Time Machine file.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

  • Install 3tb time capsule onto a 1 tb time capsule

I have a 1tb time capsule and need more backup space.  Have new 3tb TC,  how do I transfer the info to the 3tb?

Bridge the old TC.. plug it by ethernet into the new one.
Then you can just copy the sparse bundle from one TC to the other.
If you mean just files, then straight copy and paste.
See info here on moving TM backups.

  • Can't share internet connection with iPad since installing Time Capsule

Until today, I've used Earthlink's DSL service with a Netopia DSL modem with an ethernet connection to my iMac through a Linksys WRT54G router. My iPads (1 & 2) have been able to simultaneously share the internet connection over wifi.
Today, I installed a Time Capsule and removed the old Linksys router. I'm still using Earthlink's DSL service with the same Netopia DSL modem, and I still have an ethernet connection to my iMac, but through the Time Capsule now. I can get online from the iMac without problems.
But my iPad can no longer connect as they did previously. When I try to visit a website using Safari on the iPad, I get the message, "The Internet connection s currently in use by another computer. Enter your DSL Account logon password to switch the Internet connection to this computer." If I enter the DSL account password on the iPad, I can get online, but then the iMac is knocked offline.
How can I go back to sharing the connection so that any of the devices can get online at the same time?

I found another thread right after I posted and seem to have solved the problem following the steps described there (plus a couple more).

  • Installing time capsule on windows

    Hi all,
I'm trying to install my time capsule. When I start it up, the amber light flashes and never changes. I did a couple of hard resets too; but no changes.
I have my own modem/voip/router and just want to add this to the network to transfer all my files to the time capsule before my new Macbook Pro arrives.
Could someone give me an advice please? It's getting frustrated...
    Cheers

You are running two different networks.. you cannot do that unless you know exactly how to set it up.
The TC has to belong to the existing network otherwise you have dual gateways and everything falls apart.
Plug the TC into the existing router using ethernet to the WAN port.
Press and hold the reset for 10sec to reset.
Connect one computer by ethernet to TC LAN port.
Go to the airport utility manual setup.
Go to internet tab, connection sharing, and select off, bridge mode. Update the TC.
Then you need to do all the setup I previously mentioned.
TC name and wireless names SMB compliant.
Open the guest account on file sharing to read write
    Put in the correct workgroup
I then suggest you shut down the whole network and every computer and device.
Start the modem and wait until it boots correctly around 2min.
Start the TC and wait 2min..
Then start all the client computers.. plug them into either main router or the TC.
That will allow you to access the TC on the network without issues.
Your problems are then purely windows.
And for that I left being a computer technician when vista came out.. as it is a heap of smelly substance... and took up Mac. So it is the bugbear of my life that it doesn't just go away.
The TC will work fine with windows.. if you have further issues, get a computer technician.. who can still stand it.

  • Unable to browse network shares after installing Time Capsule

After installing my time capsule I am no longer able to browse the other computers on my network. I can ping them just fine but when I try to see them under "shared" or to brows to the ip address, it doesn't display the other computers. It sees the Time capsule just fine. The other computers are hooked up to the time capsule as well. One Computer is windows XP based and the other is Windows Vista. When I boot into my Windows XP (via boot camp) the other computers show up just fine and I'm able to touch the shared files. Its just the mac side that is not seeing them. They are all connected via ethernet cable connection. I appreciate any help to solving this. Thanks.

Make sure that the shares are unmounted before you sleep and see if it makes a difference. Not that it's a fix, just curious on how it reacts to see what could be going on.
Another good piece of information to get is to open Terminal and do a 'df'. See if you have any volumes mounted. They'll look like //Username@IP/Share and mounted to /Volumes/Sharename or /Volumes/Sharename-XX.
Try a 'sudo umount /Volumes/Sharename' and see if it gives you any errors back or dismounts it cleanly.
