Difficulty installing HP Laserjet 2015dn printer

Receipient of a fully functioning Laserjet 2015dn but am at a loss how to install.  In past have only installed direct connect printers using the pin type connections.  I have read the manual and gone to try to download the the driver online.
My OS is Windows XP 32 bit.
My questions are:
1.  There is a network port plus another port which the manual identifies as a USB port.  However, it is shaped completely different to a standard USB port.  It is more or less rectangular (with bit of a hex on one side) in shape with a largish square plastic piece in the middle of the hole.  A USB cable does not fit into it. What sort of cable will I need to use to connect the printer to the computer?  Or, would I be able to connect the printer by using the network cable (RJ45 10/100) directly from the printer to network port on my desktop?  In the manual under available ports it is described as "compatible with high speed USB 2.0 specifications"
2.  What driver should I download?  When I go to the page to download the driver there are so many choices I just don't know which one to download for a direct connect to a PC (i.e. no network) on a 32 bit XP OS.
This is the page for the drivers.  http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1845555&...
Can anyone offer any direction/help/assistance?  Thank you.
PS :  Happy to send an image of the so called USB port if anyone is interested.

Hi Crelle,
When the manufacturer says they don't support something, it's generally best to stay away from it.
There's almost always 3 ways to do any 1 thing, but you may need you printer to do more than 1 thing and therefore you're going to have issues with all the other things.
Printing to a printer sounds like 1 thing, but it's not.
It's many things working together to get ink on paper.
My advise is get a supported printer and live without a headache.

  • Problems installing HP LaserJet 1018 printer on new MacBook Pro

    Hi all,
I just entered the wonderful world of Mac and I am really enjoying it. Too bad I waited so long. However, I have a problem installing my printer, an HP LaserJet 1018 printer, on my new MacBook Pro intel based computer. I checked at HP's website and it says that the printer is not supported for the Mac environment. Could there be other possibilities with drivers to download or should I buy a new printer?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Difficulty installing Brother MFC-J825 printer driver

    Hi
I'm trying to install a Brother MFC-J825DW printer to my MacBook Air running OSX 10.8.5.
I have downloaded and successfully installed the driver from the Brother website.   However when I connect the printer via a USB port:
-- I can see the printer in 'Print and Scan' preferences
-- but I can't find the driver downloaded from Brother
-- instead I get prompted to dowload te driver from Apple
-- After clicking 'Install' - a few moments later, I get a message saying: The software is currently unavailable.
How can I use the drivers as downloaded directly from Apple?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Krish

... However when I connect the printer via a USB port:
The MFC-J825DW is a wireless printer. Assuming you have a wireless network, it's best to not use its USB connection at all.
Make sure the printer is connected to your wireless network. You can use its front panel control for configuration: Menu > Network > WLAN. Refer to its manual, page 34:
    http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc002847/cv_mfc825dw_eng_net_b.pdf
Once you get it working, check Brother's website for firmware updates. An update was released for it about a month ago. Don't update its firmware until you get it working reliably.

    Hi @VISH2 ,
I see that you are experiencing issues installing the printer on Windows 8. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
Are you getting any error messages when installing by the downloaded drivers?
It sounds like a operating system issue, if you are getting the same error using the downloaded drivers, I would suggest to
Repair Windows. Repair Windows 8 using Automatic Repair .

  • TUTORIAL: Install HP Laserjet 1000 on Windows 7 x64

I've created a tutorial to install HP LaserJet 1000 printer under Windows 7 x64.
    http://laserjet1000.esy.es/
    I hope it helps someone.

PCL5 is a rather loose term; for at least the last decade, drivers for new PCL5 printers have been one or the other of:
    PCL5e - PCL5 enhanced for monochrome printers.
    PCL5c - PCL5 enhanced for colour printers.
Even those terms are not precise, since the set of PCL escape sequences supported by one PCL5e printer may not be exactly the same as those supported by a different model, especially if those models are from different ranges / generations.

  • Universal Printer Driver for HP LaserJet 2015dn & 64-bit Windows 7 Lacks Many Features

On my new computer with 64-bit Windows 7 Professional, I tried installing the drivers from the LaserJet 2015dn's CD in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode.  It produced error messages, but one time it got far enough to print, but it did not provide all the feature functionality present on my XP machines.  (Such as Print On Both Sides, Correct Order for Straight Paper path, selectable customized settings I can save, etc.)  When I went to the HP site directly, for my specific printer with "Windows 7 64-bit", I was directed to a Universal Driver file (the only choice) that gave essentially the same result -- except that Print On Both Sides is now available, but not any of the other features I use regularly.  (For example, on my XP machines I am able to set up multiple Print Task Quick Sets in the Printing Preferences "Finishing" tab so that I can quickly select one with the features I want for a specific print job.  That feature is not available with the Universal Driver.)
Please tell me how I can get the full functionality of the P2015dn to be available in 64-bit Windows 7.
I hope there is a specific driver set available for that printer that accesses all the features.
    Thank you.

  • Problem Installing a LaserJet P1606dn on a printer server using the HP UPD

I'm trying to setup a LaserJet P1606dn printer as a local printer on a 64bit Server 2003 print server.  I'd like to use the HP Universal Print Driver as the printer driver for Citrix compatibility (per the HP whitepaper entitled "HP printers supported in Citrix XenApp server environments").  I successfully downloaded, extracted and installed the latest HP UPD PCL5 driver on the print server without issue.  I then successfully added the P1606dn as a new local printer (using a new Standard TCP/IP port directed to the IP address of the printer) and configured it to use the UPD PCL5 driver.   Everything appears ok with the setup, but when I try to print a test page, nothing prints out.
I've confirmed that I've configured the TCP/IP port with the correct address and that the printer is connected to the network and pingable from the print server.  I also tried using the HP UPD PCL6 driver with the same result.
    Thanks.

    Hi @yamIT ,
I read your post and see that you need a driver for 64 bit Server 2003. I would be happy to help you.
There is a 64 bit listed under the Basic Drivers.
