I don't know about installing through ethernet from an iBook to an older mac.
However, here are a couple of possible solutions to your situation:
1. Remove the HDD from the older mac, place it in a Firewire enclosure and clone Pather from the iBook using Carbon Copy Cloner, remembering to Repair Permissions before and after cloning. Then replace HDD into older mac.
2. Or you might just try cloning across the Ethernet cable.

Difficulty installing downloaded programs and upgrades using iMac intel 5.1
I have been having some difficulty installing some programs or upgrades downloaded off the internet. Even though some are dmg files, my computer is still trying to open with stuffit and giving me the error message 17530. Sometimes I am able to try "open with" but even that doesn't open the program when I use disk utility. I am not sure hat the problem is and how to fix it.
ny help is strongly appreciated.I am mostly having difficulty with iMacsoft DVD copy program and the limewire upgrade for 5.4. I think I am at the point where if I get them to unstall, great and if not oh well, but what I really what to try to figure out is what the problem is so I can fix so I don't run into this again with other installations. I have downloaded other upgrades such as Office 2004 update yesterday and it installed just fine. I have installed other media programs and Skype recently and they installed just fine too, so I can't figure out what is going on with this two installers- iMacsoft DVD copy and Limewire upgrade. I get the message error 17530 for both and can't get around it. The iMacsoft is a dmg file so it shouldn't e trying to open with Stuffit Expander but it does. I have tried downloading them numerous times, but that didn't make any difference. I even did a repair disk permissions and that didn't help.

Just upgraded to a new iMac 5k with OS 10.10. I use Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1 and it won't work! It tells me to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime. Is there a better fix????

It looks to me as if something (the "docs"?) is missing from the update site. Any help would be appreciated!I would recommend the latest JMC, which is currently 5.4.0, it should work in Eclipse Luna (4.4.0).

Two days ago I installed Yosemite. On start up I now get either a blank screen and have to power down by holding the start button or I get the rainbow wheel which takes ages to clear.
I notice that the home page redirects to a secure (HTTPS) address. I wonder whether there is a setting blocking this? What if you go directly to a secure page -- will it load?

Your add-ons list shows AVG, ZoneAlarm, and McAfee products. Could one of them be blocking this site? See whether you can add exceptions or just disable them temporarily and test whether that helps. -
This computer used to boot up in about 30 seconds, now it's minutes, programs are starting to freeze, or take a long time to boot. I suspect it's bits and fragments from programs that I have used and deleted over the years, but are still floating around inside my iMac. I really don't want to re-format and re-install OSX but the lack of performance is finally starting to irritate me. (Haveing switched from windows in 2009, I can tell you, I used to reformat and re-install windows about every 3 months because I liked that fresh fast boot up feel.) Any advice is welcome. I recently loaded OSX mavericks on my Imac. I now find I cannot open any Adobe products from CS5. The error message reads " to open Adobe illustrator CS5.app, you need to install a JAva SE 6 runtime. Would you like to check and install one? I try to install but get the error" download error". As far as i know I'm using Adobe Java 7. None of my CS5 suite works anymore............and i really dont want to upgrade to a monthly cloud service fee as i hate this policy with a passion.

I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks! -
IMac running slow and frequently crashing since installing Mavericks. Any useful info in this log?
Since installing Mavericks some time ago, applications have become slow to open, proccesses have slowed and, well, eveything has slowed down some. Also, almost every day, sometimes more than once, the iMac will freeze for a second, then reboot itself. I've tried searching for similar posts but haven't found an answer yet. I did open the console (which, I confess, I don't understand) and I'm getting lots of messages. But, as I've never checked before, I have no idea whether any of them are normal. I should just be satisfied if it doesn't crash every day. That would be an improvement. I'll have to wait a few days to see. I am using an older mid 2007 imac 24 inch running snow leopard 10.6.8
I normally accept software update recs, and today when installing the security update to java, all went fine till restart, when I got the universal "NO" sign, the circle with the line through it and just spinning gray bars underneath.
Booted from system disks, ran first aid, said the boot block partitions or something like that needed updating but disk appears to be ok. Still not working.
Do you think Alsoft Disk Warrior will fix? I am running off external back up drive now.

Apple as usual is as useless as tits on a bull, or a screen door on a submarine, pick your simile...If your backup's up to date it might be less hassle to erase the internal and clone back from the backup. Don't allow the update next time it appears - you're not the only one having problems it would seem.
Note; the message "updating boot partitions" is a standard message that appears after a repair run. It won't go away and should be ignored.
Provided the message "The volume Macintosh HD Seems to be OK" in green has appeared, your disc fle system is fine.

IMac: Install Java 7 need help!
Hello, I've an iMac with the newest software version, I want to install java 7 on it for a game server, but when I download it from java.com and I install it and start the server, it still says: Computer on java 6, update to 7 to run server. I already tryed to install with Terminal and direct acess to System Library, it shows that java 7 is installed, but I have to delete java 6. When I delete all java versions, apple says I have to install java SE6, what isn't java 7 but java 6! Help please!!!
The Oracle JRE is only a web plugin. If you need server-side Java, you'll have to use the Apple-supplied Java 6 runtime, or else the Oracle JDK (which is not a drop-in replacement for Apple's Java.) If your server application depends on Java 7, you'll most likely have to run it on another operating system.

My friend created the folios in InDesign (with your login) on another machine. Provided in a shared folder.
I already have the contents of the application. From here, I believe he should publish through the Folio Producer and then I create the Application Builder IOs in DPS app in Title citing the Login ID he used to publish the content.
Hence, I believe that would only make the Download Device and see install APP.
Is this the correct sequence?
