Difficulty installing update 9 patch

Hi
When I try to apply 120186-13, I get
sudo patchadd 120186-13
bla bla
Patch 120186-13 failed to install due to a failure produced by pkgadd.
See /var/sadm/patch/120186-13/log for details
The log says
/home/paulf/120186-13/SUNWstaroffice-base/install/checkinstall: /home/paulf/120186-13/SUNWstaroffice-base/install/checkinstall: cannot open
pkgadd: ERROR: checkinstall script did not complete successfully
Dryrun complete.
No changes were made to the system.
I ran the whole thing through truss, and saw
7847:     getgid()                         = 1 [1]
7847:     open64("/home/paulf/120186-13/SUNWstaroffice-base/install/checkinstall", O_RDONLY) Err#13 EACCES [file_dac_search]
Then I unzipped the patch zip file in tmp (as root) and ran patchadd there.
Does this mean that sudo root doesn't have this privelege?

Hi
Just about the first thing that I did when I noticed the new sun update thingy (and in particular the large amount of RAM that it was wasting considering that 99.9% of the time it does nothing) was to disable it. And it seems that this was a very good move, considering the very many compaints about its reliability that I've read on various fora. Perhaps by now it's a bit more reliable.
Normally I use pca for patching. It's small, fast and does what I want. Except this time with StarOffice.
