Difficulty making a accurate teardrop shape

Hi,
My difficulty is based around making a tear drop shape on illustrator. I am using two shapes to make this, a square and circle (shown in attachment) however the accuracy is poor because the circle and square don’t line up.
I used a grid but still accuracy is difficult because its based on trial and error. Is there an accurate way to achieve this shape with success? Shown in example there are corners sticking out!

If you think about it, in order for the square to line up smoothly with the top left quadrant of the circle, the dimensions of the square have to be exactly the same as the radius of the circle. The square in your example is a little bit too big.
Select the Elipse tool and click on the artboard. Enter the dimensions of the circle required; for example, width 100mm (you only have to click the word "height" to enter the same amount). The circle now has a radius of 50mm. Now select the Rectangle, click the artboard and enter a square with sides of 50mm. Select both and align as described above.

In fact, it is listed in the devices profile file. The problem I see is the steps to production of an APP.

My friend created the folios in InDesign (with your login) on another machine. Provided in a shared folder.
I already have the contents of the application. From here, I believe he should publish through the Folio Producer and then I create the Application Builder IOs in DPS app in Title citing the Login ID he used to publish the content.
Hence, I believe that would only make the Download Device and see install APP.
Is this the correct sequence?

Making an accurate beat-map track

I often create cover versions of songs, so step 1 is making a beat map. I've never had any kind of success using transient detection, it's always a total disaster, so I make a tap track to use with beats from region. After recording it I usually need to clean up the tap track before using it, particularly at the start, and this seems inordinately difficult. When notes are visible in the arrange window, you can often clearly see when notes are early or late relative to the audio, but you can't move them there, you have to move them in the piano roll editor which does not line up with the other tracks, so you can't line things up accurately, you're always working with an offset, and it's sometimes hard to tell which note is the one you need to move. Is there some way of showing a 'ghost' of the audio track in the piano roll editor? Or some other way of aligning the views?

The statement 'approximation' is still quantifiable, and as the maps' fidelity shows, areas much smaller than a residential block or even houses are captured. The map falsely favors more areas to appear as 4G LTE coverage. When you're zoomed in on a general neighborhood, you will see fairly high fidelity of areas where 4G LTE, extended, and 3G are delineated. Areas that don't have 4G LTE, or any tier of coverage for that matter, are still identified as such, and areas with absolutely no coverage are identified as either LTE or extended, not even 3G. This can all be documented easily, and is corroborated by Verizon's own technician that came out to measure the signal strength in my neighborhood. As I mentioned before, the map is intentionally misleading, I'm just trying to see how many other people out there experience the same long-standing misrepresentation of coverage that Verizon boasts as it primary sales pitch.

Importing Images and Making Mask's with shape's "HELP PLEASE"

So two things, I have Motion 3 and every time I try to import my photos from Aperture into motion, motion stretches my photo out. The photos are regular jpeg res around 2304-1536 is this to high of a resolution, any tips? Last thing, so I want to import a whole bunch of photos into motion and make kinda a montage with the photo's but in a shape of a heart (valentines day) I cant seem to mask the heart that motion has in it's library to a photo how do you do this and can I mask a group of pics as a heart shape?

Yes, the picture may be a bit too large and you will asking Motion to a bit of unnecessary heavy lifting.
However do you want the heart to mask the entire montage? If so apply to the group containing the photos.

Difficulty making a book

When I select 'book' at the bottom of the iphoto window, the box comes up with no themes installed. I can name the book and select choose but everything else is grayed out. After selecting choose. I get the following error message: " *No Available Themes* There were no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed, this feature will be unavailable."
I have looked at FAQ and help window to no avail. Any hints out there? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You'll need to reinstall iPhoto as follows:
Restoring iPhoto Themes
1 - delete the current application.
2 - delete any files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in your HD/Library/Receipts folder.
3 - delete the Themes folder from your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder.
Also look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there then delete it also.
5 - boot into the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
After installing reinstall the iPhoto 7.1.1 updater again followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime, 7.3.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Eclipses refuses to allow me to return either intRes or dRes (or, indeed, 0), since they can't be cast into E. If I set intRes and dRes as E, then I can't use the Integer and Double methods.
Can this be made generic, or will I have to keep creating new methods for each primitive type?

Difficulty making a mask

I am trying to make a mask with the Mosaic tool and I do not have the circle or square option popping up to allow me to make a mask. I am using Premiere Pro CC and I see in tutorials there should be an option to make a mask within the effect, but I do not have that option appearing.

Shape tween variables?

I'm using shape tweens to morph one shape into another:

While I enjoy some of the choices Flash makes for animating the transformations,
I am wondering if you can control it in any way, or even have flash generate a different transformation.
I would also love to know of any suggestions you might have for making animated videos with shapes more dynamic.
That demo shows about what I know, which amounts to:
applying shape tweens for morphing;
and motion tweens for 2d spinning,
and basic movement from point A to point B.

You can use shape hints for a measure of control on shape tweens.
As for animating there are a lot of tricks. One of the simplest is to use easing. Select one of your tweens and look in the properties panel. There you will see and easing number. Try some different values (negative and positive).
Other things that aren't just a technical fix are anticipation and overshooting. Matter of fact most of the things that make compelling animation have nothing to do with Flash or specific technologies. If you are interested in doing a lot of animating I would recommend any book by Chris Georgenes.

Trouble making the text in scrolling credits (made on Final Cut Express) export clear and not fuzzy

I am having difficulty making the text in the scrolling credits in Final Cut Express clear and not fuzzy. I went under effects, then clicked video generators, then text, then scrolling text to get the scrolling credits working. I tried using the Chroma Keyer effect and the Color Key Effect. These work on captions on video and beginning titles but not the scrolling text. All of those were made on livetype so maybe that is why. I would really appreciate some help. I've been working on this all day. I was on the technical support line for about 40 minutes and they told me there is no more help given over the phone for Final Cut Express and that I should go on here and see if anyone can answer my question. I looked on all the forums and there was nothing on this subject. Thanks.

The software is not doing what it should be doing. We have all had this type of problem. It is nearly always somehow in the way the software is being used. Look at your added Chromakey and color key. You must be doing something that the FCE does not like. Open a new project and new sequence and try the exact same thing. (I use titles from LiveType and from the effects tab and have no problems)

Bevel Extrude 3d effects teardrop

I am using Illustrator and trying to recreate the following:
This was originally created in PowerPoint - TearDrop shape. 3d effect: Bevel top type: circle. width 40 height 10. Nothing for the bottom. Surface material Warm Matte and 3-point lighting. Nothing else for depth/conture. I'm not concerned with the shadow. When I try to recreate in Illustrator I end up with something similair to below regardless how much I adjust things...
Notice the overlapping folds. This is a single object comprised of a circle and square to get a tear drop shape however when I try to make it look like the above first object I can never get that nice crisp 45 degree line to the center, it is always curved or overlapping, or does not apply the effect to the center, leaving it very flat centered. Adding light points in and moving does not help and I of course receive the "bevel self-intersection may have occurred". I don't see a bevel option for "circle" and not sure how else to accomplish or steps that I may take.

Problems with answering and making calls

I have owned a Droid 2 for almost a year now. I love it! But for the last few months I have had a problem with answering and making calls. Sometimes when I answer a phone call it connects like I have answered the call but I can't hear anything and the other person can't hear me. The call says I am connected and I can see the timer going but there is no communication. It does the same thing when I go to make calls sometimes. I can hit send and it connects the call but I can't hear anything. The timer is going and the other person answers but I can't hear anything. The only reason I know they answered is because they then call me back and leave a voicemail, sounding very confused. I have to restart my phone and then the problem is solved. But only for a little bit. I haven't been able to pick out a pattern or anything. It is random and very frustrating. I went into my local Verizon store about the issue and they arranged for me to receive a new, certified pre-owned phone because I pay insurance on my phone. I received the phone the next day and everything went great, for a few days. But this phone is also having the same problem. I am getting very frustrated with this because I need to be able to actually talk to people when they call me. Anyone else having the same problem? I want to go back to the store but I feel like they wouldn't do anything more than they did last time, which didn't solve the problem.

I have this same issue on a bi-daily basis: I can place a call, but then I hear nothing. I can answer a call, but I then hear nothing. The calls connect as the people I am in contact with will tell me they answered my calls and heard me, though I could not hear them - and vice versa. Also, this phone does not like to place a call using the "call" option if dialing from "recent calls". I turn this phone on/ off daily, I've taken the battery out on about 50% of the occassions when this issue has happened. This has been a problem for me for approximately 1yr. My early renew date is just shy of 2 months from now and I cannot wait to get rid of this phone. Aside from having great difficulty making/ receiving calls, the phone is overall slow to respond to basic functions like text messaging or using the camera. Also, most times while taking a picture, the camera will "take a picture" but then there is no image in the file. Highly annoying - the only way to temporarily fix this is to reboot - but like the call issue, the problem recurs. I do have a bunch of apps on installed on the phone, but since I also have an APP killer on the phone, nothing aside from "Weather Bug" app is ever really running in the background that would slow this phone. BUT, right now my main concern is may safety: God forbid I am ever in danger or in an emergency situation, this phone's constant malfunctioning could possibly be the physical harm or death of me. I hope that my family can sue the company that provides the software for this phone, Verizon & Motorola in the event of my untimely death.

NBAR, Netflow, QoS Policing, 6500s, IOS 12.1(26)E7, and MARS

Hello. I'm having trouble seeing the forest OR the trees, and I'd appreciate some help from someone who has a better field view than myself. We're upgrading our internet connection to 200MB and management is wanting to upgrade our Packet Shaper to meet the new bandwidth. (The Packet Shaper shows top talkers, top protocols, and rate limits protocols or users.) I'm trying to make the argument that we can do this w/ existing tools (nbar, netflow, QoS policing, and MARS), at the same time I'm trying to make the argument that we need to have our supervisors (currently SUP2 MSFC2) on a 3-4 year upgrade cycle.
To get to the 12.2 IOS, I'd require a memory or sup upgrade. What I am hoping for is someone who has gone down this road who knows what I'm lacking in 12.1 code, or if in fact I can do it all here.
While it is self-evident to most in IT why we need to regularly upgrade equipment, I'm having difficulty making this argument to management with hard facts. I'm guessing they'd still be running Windows for Workgroups to save money...but that's another story.
My plan is to use Netflow and MARS to track top users and top protocols. It appears that I lose some mgt functionality w/ MARS in conjunction w/ IOS 12.1, but I am currently unclear if I lose any tracking capability. (MARS is new to us and awaiting install.)
Then, I hope to use NBAR to identify all the latest P2P traffic and police it appropriately w/ QoS tools.
Does my thinking sound solid? Will I be able to pull this off w/ 12.1? If not, what do I need that I lack in 12.1?

First of all - you need to be clear that although MARS uses netflow data, it uses it for the purpose of identifying security issues. If you want to use netflow for reporting and/or accounting purposes MARS isn't the tool you need, try one of the following freeware netflow tools:

The freeware ones are generally more difficult to set up but once running are just as good as the commercial ones.
However, this means you need two netflow destinations - one for MARS and one for your netflow tool, and this feature is called "Netflow Multiple Export Destinations" and initially appeared at 12.1(3)T, but it seems to be VERY platform specific - for example, because we only run GD software on our 3660's we had to upgrade to 12.3(20) to get it.
Looking at the Feature Navigator for SUP2/MSFC2 it appears that you need at least 12.2(18)SXF6 to get this feature so that might help your case.
I'd personally keep the PacketShaper for it's reporting capability if nothing else (IOS can do the job, but not as elegantly as the PacketShaper).

How do i make an image pause in a flash movie clip

Please can someone help me. I am trying to find out how to pause or stop an image in a basic flash movie clip, after it has entered from one side and before it exits the other side.
I have been trying to work it out myself for three days but no joy. I am practicing for a test with a training agency which gave me a disk to use but nowhere in it does it say how this is done. I am also having a lot of difficulty making stop start buttons work with this movie clip. I am using a trial cs5.5 version of Flash which expires in 7 days so i need to know this soon. I am up to speed on most of the features, its just this one thing that has me stumped. A lot of the tutorials or examples i have found on the net are very long winded and hard to follow exactly. Could someone let me know, step by step the sequence i should follow after i have created an object and made it go from one side of the stage to the other.

Thank you for getting back to me. Yes i am using a timeline tween. I have an image on my stage which moves in from one side and out the other side. I am trying to stop or pause the image. The effect i will be asked to reproduce in my exam will be something very much like the banner on the website http://www,iactweb.com. If you go to this website you will see images arrive on the banner and pause before exiting the other side. I am fairly up to speed on all the aspects of getting this effect but i have forgotten what i learned during the course on how stop or pause the images. I am using the trial cs5.5 version of flash . How to add a gradient or 50% transparent fill to an .ai imported path?

I need some help. My task sounds simple enough but not sure how to accomplish it.
I created the following path in Illustrator (See attached illustration - the top one). This is actually for a lower-third graphic.
I have been successful at importating that into .ai. Though should I be using a solid or a shape layer or doesn't it matter ?
I can add a stroke which affects the color and thickness of the outlines OK.
However, I can't figure out how to add either a gradient fill or one that is 50% transparent ? Can anyone help ?
Oh ... I'll mention I'm using After Effects CS3.

I've used Illustrator for quite a while both at home and at work but I really havn't had to do anything that complex yet. Same goes for Photoshop. I bought DVD tutorials for most of the productivity software I use and when you gave your first explanation, I watched the DVD tutorial on Importing into AE so I know what you're referring to when you say to import as composition. So far, I've only tried to import into AE by copying and pasting. I think that's why I just got the path and not the background. I'll try importing a composition shortly and see if I get the fill too. I actually found a tutorial on making the type of shape I need to in Photoshop so maybe I'll try that instead of Illustrator and then import that into AE.
Btw - It may not actually be a gradient fill I need to use but instead a solid fill with the top half lighter and buttom half darker.
