Difficulty restoring a backup folder
I installed windows vista 64 bit yesterday Today I installed LR 1.41 and tried to open my last backup folder (two days old) and when I clicked on the correct date in the lightroom backup folder I receive the message "no items match your search"
How do I open and thereby restore all the data from my LR Backup?
Thanks
Roger Lieberman
You can collect these logs using RTMT or CLI (attaching doc for cli) and can read them using Notepad++
Hope you are trying to restore backup on exactly same version of cucm and with same IP address, host name, security password.

There were problems with my iPhone for the past few days with freezing etc. So i backup the phone and brought it into Apple for an exchange for a new one. When i got home, when i plugged into iTune, there are no other options apart from ONLY set up as a new phone.
After that was done, i tried to restore from the previous back but the one i backed up from the previous phone is not listed except the one new one is created with plugging in the new phone for the first time.
I have checked '\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\' there is my folder there named 'a97551c3537f0068b2f80e92b51254453e20675e' which is the backup i did with the previous phone but cannot be seem when i tried to restore in iTune.
MAJOR HELP PLEASE!!I backed up my computer - but not my iphone on time machine. Will the backup file on time machine be from the last iphone backup? or from my last iphone sync? (I won't have access to my time machine drive for a few days, and am stressing out trying to find another way to retrieve the lost info)

All my bookmarks have disappeared on two machines. I tried used the restore function it did not work, and I tried to updated my Plugins and for some reason Firefox would not register the updates . How can I restore my bookmarks?
Immediately backup the profiles on both machines. Keep the profile backup files and folders somewhere safe outside the Firefox program and profile paths. The Windows Desktop would be a suitable location.
* see [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
* also note the information on bookmarks [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
Do you use Firefox sync ?
*[[Firefox Sync - Take your bookmarks, tabs and personal information with you]]
that is not itself a backup, but you may consider the synced second device to be a backup
Restored bookmarks overwrite the existing bookmarks. You may still have some left, but unfortunately you could have overwritten most or all of them with corrupt copies. If you backup the profile at least you have access to copies of whatever automatic backups were made. Note in future that it is good practice to periodically make backups.
Post back again once you have backed up the profiles, and read the linked articles. -
i backup my iphone on my pc and copy backup file into drive D then i setup new OS on my pc. after that i copy the backup file into itunes backup folder but itunes can't find the backup file to restore my iphone. how can i restore my iphone?
Don't you just love changes in interfaces?
I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer. -
I'm trying to recover a file and the app company said to restore from an earlier backup. My iPhone only shows the most recent backup. I've been searching the net for answers - I found the back up file and date sorted them (over 6mb of files). How can I get my iPhone to restore from an earlier backup?
I am on Windows Vista so I don't have Time Machine.
I have backed up the backup folder so if I mess it up, I have it in a separate place.
Can I just delete all the files with todays date in that backup folder and have it forced to the next oldest date?
Why doesn't the iPhone show a list of the least several backups.
Info:
iPhone 4S
Software version 5.1.1
Backed up to computer through iTunes (not iCloud)As you backup the iPhone in iTunes, it overwrites the last backup. Files are kept as they are changed, so that would explain how you get different dates in your backup folder. The only backups that are saved and not overwritten are the ones done just prior to a restore. You do have the option to go back in time on a Windows computer, however depending on the last time you set a restore point in Windows, it could be back further than you are willing to go.

I recently had a hard drive crash on my iMac. After replacing the drive, I discovered that TimeMachine had apparently been turned off for six months, and all my photos from that period were missing after the restore. In looking on the external drive used by TimeMachine, I discovered a folder called Imac backup, and under iPhoto Library was a folder called Originals and subfolders for each year. To my surprise, there were photos covering the missing time period! Somehow I imported the 2011 folder from the external drive into iPhoto, and then I discovered they were small files of less than 100 KB each, not the 1-2 MB original photos. So now all of 2011 is screwed up, not just from May on. These photos also include faces pulled from many larger group photos.
I can get Jan - April restored using TimeMachine. But in continuing to explore the Imac backup folder, I found a similar folder in iPhoto Library called Modified. This folder has many of the missing photos in their original MB size in folders indexed by date for the missing period after April. Is there a way that I can get these modified photos back onto my new hard drive and into the iPhoto library without causing more damage? If TimeMachine was turned off after April, how did those modified photos and all those small images from the missing period find their way to the external drive?
Any wisdom greatly appreciated. What you want to do is merge the two Libraries? The only way to do this is to use the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
I created a new iPhoto Library on the iMac and dragged the entire iPhoto Library from the MacBook into that new Library. It worked, however it all came over into one big album and my previous album structure was gone
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.

How can I restore my iphone 4s to a previous backup I can see in the backup folder?
Ok, here's a question for the restore/ backup pros.
On 1/4/14 I thought I would back up my iPhone 4s because it had been over a year (yeah, I know not a good idea to wait so long) since I had last backed it up (8/13/12, to be exact). So, when I connected it to my computer, iTunes recommended I update the iTunes software. So, I did. Somewhere in the middle of the update I noticed that my iPhone kinda "rebooted" and I saw what a friend of mine referred to as the "restore iPhone" image on it.
Then, I received an error message from iTunes saying that there was a problem with my iPhone & that I would have to restore it to factory settings. WTH!!!!
I went ahead and befored the restore. Oddly enough, I seemed to get all my data back. Heck, I even got emails & contacts that I added minutes before I tried to back it up. I thought I had dodged a bullet & then I started to notice Apps that were missing & other Apps that I had deleted long ago back on the iPhone.
Then, other anomolies surfaced, like photos missing, contacts missing, & worst of all the App that I used to store some really preceious pictures, photo vault, was also gone (and all my most precious pictures). Those pics were not in my camera roll any longer as I had moved them to this App.
Okay, I studied all I could on the net & learned where the backup files are stored on my computer and huh, it looks likes it took a back up right before (during?) the iTunes update that caused all this mess. The problem is, iTunes doesn't show this backup as one I can select when trying to restore it.
My Question is, "How can I restore my iPhone to the backup dated 1/4/14 that I can clearly see in the backup folder?"
Many thanks, psmcpheroops. typo: "I went ahead and befored the restore." should be... I went ahead and performed the restore.

by mistake my contacts are deleted from iphone and the pc which itunes installed is corrupted, i have the itunes backup folder,is this possible to restore the contacts from my old itunes backup folder to iphone!?
unless you had them synced with icloud or some other email account, very unlikely

after ios 5 update are the email folder empty. an restore from backup won't help.. any ideas?
I Was wodnering of you ever had ths issue resolved. My wife's iPad 2 is havieng a similiar issue. The iPad receives only some emails -- they appear to be from people in her contacts-- but not emials from "strange" soucrces. No junk mail rules are set. And oddly enough it is a new iCloud email address.
What happened to your issue?

I was running OS X 10.4 Tiger on a 2006 iMac. My home folder is backed up on a My Passport 500GB USB external drive using Backup (the original application that came pre-installed with the orange umbrella symbol).
I was intending to upgrade tp Snow Leopard so that I could sync a new iPad with iTunes and iPhoto so had ordered the disc from Apple and was waiting for it to arrive.
2 weeks ago my hard drive stopped - and I took the iMac to a support store (I am currently in Belgium and there is no Apple store here). They confirmed the hard drive was dead and as I had my receipt for Snow Leopard installed this for me.
Now I am trying to restore my home folder but the new OS does not recognise the data. I can see there is nearly 200GB of data on the external drive - but the folders contain small files call backup.log, backup.log.gz, InfoPlist.stringscat, stat0..... all under 5MB.
Applecare told me they did not know about the Backup application and it was not theirs..... then suggested I tried migration assistant.
With migration assistant, I just get a spinning wheel at the initial 'select your disk' page - spinning now for more than 8 hours. I checked on line and the only advice I saw was to use firewire - but my external drive works with the new high speed USB...
Can anyone help?Thank you for your help - I now have a solution ...in case it helps someone else.....
...I also think I may have been a bit silly...
The solution - thanks to a great guy in Apple Support USA - thank you Matt!!
first I partitioned my hard drive using disk utility - and set 235GB for a separate install - I called it Tiger install disk
this allows your hard drive to act as 2 totally separate systems (by holding down the option key when you start the computer you can choose which you want)
then I reinstalled Tiger from my original discs onto the new part of my hard drive
then I read my backed up home folder and copied it to the Tiger system on the new hard drive section
then I rebooted and started up Snow leopard on the original part of the hard drive
then I used migration assistant to transfer from the 'Tiger install disc' drive - it was recognised by migration assistant
Where I think I may have been a bit silly
I am now not sure if the orginal backup was always visible in Snow Leopard
in Tiger I found backup.sparseimage - which when double clicked opened up my home folder
now that I have istalled Tiger as well - I can also find this in now Leopard... ...so maybe I just hadn't opened all the original folders on my backup disk...
...but for sure migration assistant could not read the backup copy -
Please help
The following says how to restore from backup.
iOS: How to back up
If you go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices you can see if you have an iTunes backup. You need one dated before or the exact time you started the restore. -

Nov 15 10:50:27 localhost Viewer[200]: NetworkBrowser failed to launch "/usr/bin/nmblookup" (No such file or directory)You can't restore a backup made by Time Machine in Mountain Lion using 10.6 discs! You need to start up in Mountain Lion's recovery mode. See How do I restore my entire system?
Since you have replaced the hard drive, that means (unfortunately) that the recovery partition is gone. However, I believe that the recovery partition gets backed up on your Time Machine backups, if you're backing up to a directly-connected hard drive. Try starting up while holding option with the Time Machine drive connected. If you see any recovery "drives" show up, boot from that and you're good.
If that doesn't work, since your machine didn't ship with Mountain Lion (which it obviously didn't if you're able to install Snow Leopard on it), it may not be capable of internet recovery. You could always try internet recovery (hold command-option-R at startup), as there was a firmware update for certain machines a while back that added this capability... though that might only give you Lion, I'm not entirely sure how it works.
If all else fails, you'll need to install Snow Leopard, then update to Mountain Lion. (Save a copy of the installer for the future, and make a bootable Mountain Lion disk from it.) That will give you back the recovery partition so you can restore. -
How to restore a backup copy of 'My Music", from an external backup system
Is there a document somewhere on the procedure to recover iTunes when you used a 3rd party backup system?
Issue: I am having difficulty restoring my iTunes library from a third party backup system that mirrors all the files on my computer onto a remote disk drive. First I restored the files onto a new computer, then I loaded iTunes
for windows, and then used authorize option. iTunes does not show any of my files, and appears to have erased the files I restored. I am lost what to do next, I can restore the files again if need be, just want to read some instructions instead of guessing.
Background: My desktop computer gave me error messages when I rebooted my computer just after upgrading from iTunes 7.0.18 to iTunes 7.0.2. I got an error message that the operating systems SMS hive file is corrupt (a security file). After some investigation a technical person in my company tol me that the file is gone, on both my mirrored disk drives. Would appear that this is a serious iTunes bug or a serious hardware problem. Not knowing which, and confident I have a good backup, I have placed that computer on the side, and took a spare PC and started configuring it to be my new home computer.
I loaded all the Windows patches and installed, recovered all the files under "My Documents", loaded iTunes, Authorized the computer, and don't see my files. When I go back to "My Music" subdirectory I see very few files, when I am in iTunes I don't see my music.
The backup and restore was for all the files in "My Documents" kept on a remote server in my home, a Seagate Technology product called Mirra.
Questions:
1. How should I have restored those files? Apparently the method I choose does not work. All Apple FAQ information is based on me using the Apple Backup & Restore method, which I don't use, instead favoring using a single product to backup all my data.
2. Are there other reports of microsoft Windows Hive or SMS files being damaged in the iTunes upgrade process? Any thoughts as to this being related to the iTunes upgrade process or digital rights management?First -- by default iTunes stores its Library in "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl", and its Music in "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\".
Make sure you have a "iTunes Library.itl" after the restore -- if not, and your backup software supports it, try an older version of the file. If your backup software only keeps the last version of the file -- well, then you are SOL, and you will have to re-add the files to the Library. You will also have to rebuild your playlists, ratings, etc.
Since you have "very few files" in the iTunes Music directory -- either you weren't storing your music there, or your backup didn't work. Are you sure you weren't using a non-default location for your music files?
If you had a hardware problem then it is likely that your backup stopped working properly at some point. This is why you need a rotating backup scheme and periodic archiving of files to non-writeable media (If you have the time/money) -
I am unable to restore my backups from my Time Machine
MacBook Pro – My reformatted system that won't restore from my time machine - HELP PLEASE
I loaded Lion when it first came out and all my troubles started. (It was the same on my 24” iMac). Mail particularly hardly worked on either machine after loading up Lion but that's another story and I wish I had never upgraded to Lion.
I am now in China and took my MacBook Pro with me
To avoid mail problems I eventually used web-mail as all I saw was the coloured spinning wheel all day long otherwise
Gradually the machine got slower and slower and I saw that coloured wheel more and more
Eventually a message came up to say my Bootable Drive was almost full.
I checked and it wasn't full of MY documents. I see on this forum it's an Apple problem - reformatting and restoring user files will not help the problem
On 1st November I did a Time Machine backup that completed OK
Since then I had removed ALL documents safely to my Sony Vaio that we bought instead of another Apple Mac.
Despite removing ALL documents and emptying the trash for two users the HDD continued to fill up rapidly
I decided to do one more last backup on Time Machine so I could reformat the system – This backup never completed
I had to reformat the system as it was totally not useable by now
I had expected to put a Snow Leopard DVD in and restore my system without any problem - I have done this before on my iMac
I was unable to point the restore to my time machine as it has a WD lock partition and Apple restores don't recognise the drive may be locked!
No problem I thought, as I will do it later through the tools utility called Migration Assistant
I have tried several times with Leopard and Snow Leopard but cannot get the utility to work, as it is obviously picking up the corrupt “LAST” backup (This is a shortcut to the 6th November uncompleted backup
I tried to move the 1st November one to the last and move the other out as “”Corrupt”, but we are not allowed to change time machine files. Brilliant idea but Apple stopped it!
So, I loaded Snow Leopard and got it to see my Time Machine Files and restored first the Applications – No problem
Then Library – This failed as “You haven't permission” - What! Why? This is MY Laptop and MY files. Apple have to sort out this permission problem. I have had it three and a half years and it has driven me mad. It's a flawed way of working in my opinion. It took me three years to empty the trash because of it.
I then tried to restore the "System" folder which also has a library folder and that failed the same - Why doesn't Time Machine restore what it's told to? Is it because I called the MacBook Pro something different? It saw the backup files OK and gave me the option of the previous MacBook or my iMac that I also had on the same drive. I chose the MacBook but it would NOT restore the system.
Conclusion
So, I am stuck in China without my MacBook Pro and unable to restore my system and unable to retrieve the 1st November backup which was taken properly.
This means that I cannot run any programmes and do any work
I have wasted two weeks altogether on all the combined problems and without a usable system
Any ideas how to restore back to the 1st November please? Thanks in advance!UpdateAfter Advice from Apple
RESTOREPROBLEMS
I spoke from China on the1st December to a very helpful Senior Apple Technical person. He gave me my guidelines for a successful restore and we hung up.
Unfortunately, the backup hadn't enough space, so I repartitioned the hard drive and THEN followed his instructions.
At 6 am there was amessage to say it had restored OK (See screen-shot to say it wassuccessful) and so, I pressed OK to restart the MacBook Pro.
All I got was the same as before - a grey spinning wheel.
To cut a very long storyshort, I wasted the whole day trying to make a backup work to no avail. I came to the conclusion that this is yet another example of Lion not working, as I have never had this problem with Leopard and Snow Leopard.
I then got a screen shot of a message never seen before and that may help Apple ….
So, I sent them that screen-shot. Restarting did nothing of course.
Timeto stop the nonsense!
To cut my losses of many days wasted time over the last 5 weeks, I gave up trying to restore and as I have all the data safely tucked away on an external drive, Irebuilt the MacBook Pro with just Leopard.
I then put all theApplications back on one by one and it runs perfectly. Luckily I also had these with me in China!

I have a mega large Pages Newsletter about China that I think was over 20 Mb before I shrank it, as it had many photos. This brought the MacBook running Lion to it's knees. On my rebuilt MacBook Pro running Leopard, it ran blisteringly quickly, even before shrinking it.
I managed to finish thenewsletter that I had started on the 21st October and we bulk emailedit out as a PDF 1st December from my MacBook Pro running Leopard.
In fact, the machine isrunning so well, that I think I will stick with Leopard.
LION
I always suspected the problem with Lion was it was constantly doing SAVES all the time that were in the foreground and not the background that I was unable to type in productively. My own opinion is that the developers had been trying to be TOO clever with Lion and for a busy person like me it crippled my productivity that went down by 50% and then eventually to ZERO %.
CONCLUSION
I would like to thank the Apple Technical person for his efforts on my behalf and felt that he should receive this update to close the case.
I stated that hopefully he can pass my observations to the LION TEAM Management or to whoever in Apple needs to see this feedback. The dozen or so problems with Lion have already caused us to go and buy a Sony Vaio instead of another MacBook Pro.
This anti-Apple attitude is by a person that for over 3 years was utterly and completely soldon Apple. No more, as Lion killed all my enthusiasm for Apple. My colleague as well. I asked the Apple Technical person to PLEASE pass this on! Whether he passed the report on I will never know! -
(Lengthy question, I know Let me explain.)
A few days ago, I decided to clear out the music on my computer. So, I copied everything out of iTunes to my external hard drive (podcasts, music, movies, tv shows, books, and apps) and deleted all that I could find, including the iTunes folder. I forgot that the iTunes library files were in there, and those went too; unsurprisingly, I was greeted with an empty library when I next opened iTunes. After adding all my files back from my external hard drive, everything's all good there - no lost files, everything seems fine. However, since my library is a "new" library, iTunes wishes to erase everything on my iPhone 4. Which is also fine, for everything except my apps. I'd really rather not lose all my application settings and data that are saved in my backup. But, I cannot just "Restore from Backup" by right-clicking my device in the list in iTunes, so... I haven't synced my iPhone since I did this, so all of my data is still on there, but it's in the backup as well. If I have to erase all iTunes content, I definitely have to be able to restore the backup over it since I don't want to lose all my settings and Springboard layout. I'd prefer not to restore iOS because I don't want to go from iOS5 to 5.0.1, nor do I have 8 hours to download the IPSW file on my super-speedy internet connection Any guidance on restoring my iPhone from its backup? Here's an interesting bit: iTunes will let me restore my iPod touch from backup: it's still running iOS 4.3.3. I figured as much... there's backups showing in the Preferences -> Devices list for both devices (and even my old, long gone iPod touch 2G), but my iPhone (on iOS5) isn't giving me any such option. I remember I had to downgrade before to get the backup restored (something went haywire in the setup assistant, and I couldn't restore a backup from iTunes there)... If it was possible to go to iOS 5.0 rather than 5.0.1 I would just do the same thing again, but iOS 5.0.1 isn't an option. I attached a screenshot. Hopefully Apple can get this nonsense sorted out; I think iOS 5 might be the root of this, somehow.
